Lurking In the Shadows
I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho or Inuyasha.....DOUBLE DAMN!!!
Okay, just one more thng before I start. Does anyone but me think it's creepy that I have larengitis while writing this? I can't speak! And the damn fic is a about a mute girl. Does anyone else find that a bit disturbing? It's so frikin annoying! Okay, on with the fic before I go crazy over this whole thing.
Three days was all it took for Sasaki to crack a small smile. She warmed to the silent Setsuna quickly. Meyko was extremely free-spirited. Not much could dampen her mood. Kagome seemed to be down, though. Setsuna kept the same look she always did--child-like but calm and strong at the same time.
Over the next few days, Sasaki seemed to tense horribly. She said someone was following them. Kagome protested that it was Inuyasha, but Meyko and Setsuna felt it as it came closer over the days. They had stopped for a short break when it finally caught up with them.
"We've got company." Meyko whispered. "We should leave here."
"No. I'm tired of being stalked." Sasaki cursed under her breath.
Setsuna gasped as the same raven from before came out of hiding in the trees. Only this time it was over nine feet tall.
"The Shikon no Tama!" it cried.
Kagome screamed as it swooped down and grabbed her by the shoulders and took flight.
"Kagome!" Meyko called.
Setsuna whistled as loud as she could and held up not only her jewel shards but also Kagome's.
"The Shikon no Tama!" the raven cried once more, turning in flight and dropping Kagome. Meyko dashed off to catch the falling schoolgirl.
"Setsuna! Let's go!" Sasaki called, bending to one knee. "Get on!" Setsuna obeyed and climbed onto Sasaki's back.
"The Shikon no Tama!" it cried louder. Sasaki took off running, leaping into and above the tree for even more speed. Setsuna heard a faint gasp as Sasaki began a slow decent. Upon reaching the ground, Setsuna noticed why they had stopped. Sasaki had four arrows in her chest and stomach, blood staining her clothing.
"Gomen ne, Setsuna. Don't worry about me! Now run!"
Setsuna looked to the sky and spotted the giant bird closing in. She staggered into a sprint with no room for error. The archers were visible now. She had saved Kagome's life, but at what cost?

"We've been walking for days! Can't we take a break or something?" Kuwabara complained.
"Geez, Kagome's a better traveling companion than you! At least she doesn't complain about the distance." Inuyasha retorted.
"Oi, Kurama, are you okay?" Yusuke asked his fox friend.
Kurama nodded.
Kuwabara froze. "It's the creepy guy!"
"Which one?" Yusuke asked, annoyed with Kuwabara's randomness.
"That Karasu guy! The one Kurama killed!"
*Dramatic pause*

Setsuna found herself backed against the base of a cliff with the raven on the ground in front of her. She gasped and squinted her eyes.
"Hey you! Leave her alone!"
The raven turned.
"Thought I was down, didn't you? Who said I can't fight?" Sasaki scowled, now bright violet eyes fixed in a deathglare. She lep into the air, extending her right hand to the sky. Something snagged Setsuna away just before, "Deleterious Bomb!" was shouted. She found herself at a safe distance and pressed up against a tree trunk. It was a bit shocking at first, but so was everything else she encountered.
"Shikon no Tama!"
Setsuna jumped at the cracked voice. The raven burst out of the light and headed directly for her. She dove to the side just in time to miss the bird's beak piercing the tree trunk. She staggered to her feet and took off running. She occasionally tripped or lost her footing, but she never paid attention to where she was running and ended up lost. The raven was gone, but ther forest had gotten more dense and dark. This was the kind of setting you read about in fairytales where there was a haunted mansion somewhere around. The air grew colder when she realized she was missing her school scarf.
~~~~~~~~~
"So I tried to kill it." Sasaki explained.
"And you succeeded in blowing up half of the forest!" Meyko shouted back, frustrated with her comrad's recklesness.
Sasaki shrugged.
"And then you lost Setsuna!"
"It's not MY fault!"
"Can you just calm down?" Kagome offered. "I'll be able to sense the jewel shards."
"Here." Sasaki held out her hand. "I grabbed your jewel shards back, but Setsuna still has hers." She turned. "Let's go."
~~~~~~~~
Kuwabara reached up and grabbed the tangled scarf from the tree branch. "Hey, was this hers?"
Kurama nodded.
Inuyasha snorted. "I she went into that part of the forest then she's probably dead by now."
"And what about Kagome?" Miroku asked. (A/N: Yes, they're all there)
"But we have to save them!" Shippo yelled.
"Fine then, you do it." Inuyasha said.
"Let's just all go, okay?" Yusuke said.
"Right. I'm positive she's still in there." Kuwabara concentrated. "But I can't tell where exactly."

This place was....creepy. The thought that I was alone kept pulling at the back of my mind. I didn't want to let it scare me, though. I would make it out eventually as long as I didn't let myself go in circles. I would get home if I tried. Or maybe this was all a crazy dream. My dreams always did seem real. Something rustled in the bushes behind me. I stopped, turned, and scanned around. I bounced back at the dog-like creature that emerged from the bushes. Things were so ugly here. Another set of bushed shook and something jumped out. I was afraid the figure would hit me, but it tackled the creature instead. Other's just like the hellish dog appeared and the black figure growled deeply, scaring every last one away. It turned to me and I have to admit that I was afraid until it relaxed and began to purr. This was another strange happening. It was a giant black cat, something of a saber tooth tiger. Was it alright to say I was a little disturbed? Because I was! As the purring continued it began to sound a little bit like "Master." It suddenly shrunk to the size of a normal house cat. It hopped on my shoulder and leaned into me. Lifting a paw, my new companion showed me the way out.

Can I stop here? Well, I'm going to. It's late and I probably won't get around to posting this until tomorow morning. I promise to write more and I have plans for another story to write.
