Chapter 1
Kagome had been searching for shards for five years now. The whole time it never changed. She and Inuyasha would fight, she would go home study like mad, barely pass her tests, and then be dragged prematurely back by Inuyasha. How she passed high school is still a mystery to her. She had been thinking about this fact right before she had delivered her valedictorian speech to her classmates earlier today. (Yes I know how did she get val. and barely pass her tests? Well Kagome just has high standards ok?) How did she manage to survive Feudal Japan and school? She had no friends to speak of here in her era; they had long ago given up on her because of her "changes".
Two years after she had began her quest a demon had snuck through the well with the aid of a sacred jewel shard. It had attacked her family. The only person to survive was her little brother Sota (sorry if that is spelled wrong). After she came home to the gory scene of her mother and jiichan literally ripped limb form limb she shut out everything except her brother, her son, and her last four friends. Though she was reserved around even them. The only people able to bring her old self out where Shippou and Sota, and even they had trouble getting her to smile like she used too. She was a completely different person.
Her once fiery brown eyes had shifted and now where a serene blue that held wisdom and pain beyond her years. Her raven hair had grown out to about her calves and the natural blue streaks where more visible. Her childish innocence vanished along with naivety. Her body was fit and trim, with no extra weight. She had lost the childish frame of her face and it was now slim and had a regal air about it. Her figure had filled out in all the right places. She was tall; mostly leg. Her steps had the grace of a fighter, she had been secretly training with Sesshoumaru for the entirety of the five years that she had known him, and was now able to beat him easily. Her speed and skill where unmatched, not even by Naraku. She had calmed down almost to a point of not caring about anything. Her beautiful face was always in a stoic mask, never letting her defenses slip…especially not in her era. All that was ever seen on her face was a bored look, or one of mild amusement. Her perfect lips never parted in a smile (with the exception of when she was sure she was alone with Sota or Shippou), her flawless brow never creasing in a frown. Her eyes never betrayed her inner emotions, they where a perpetual sea of calm calculating intelligence. She was always quiet, and treated people from her time coldly. Kagome frowned mentally thinking about her speech.
$$$$Flashback$$$$
Kagome cleared her throat slightly before she began. When she did her silky voice was met instantly with rapt attention. Not often did the beautiful, mysterious, reserved Kagome speak.
"Welcome, friends, family, confused tourists." There where a stifled giggles from the crowd. They always had their graduation at the Tokyo Tower, (I don't know if they really do that, but my graduation would have been at Mt. Rushmore if I didn't move so why not ^_^) so there were a few tourists who got caught up in the excitement that buzzed around the building.
"As you may or may not know this is our graduation day, the last day we will all be together. Take a look around; will you miss what we have? Will you cling to the past, or move on and thrive? Think carefully, classmates, from this moment on your destiny is yours to choose, yours to follow. Take my words to heart, life will get hard."
Kagome paused here, forcing herself to maintain the stoic mask. During that pause knowing glances passed through the crowd. It was a well know fact that Kagome's family had been murdered in the most disgusting way. When she spoke again they where hanging on her every word, fully intending to use what she said next in any big decisions they may face.
"When life gets hard, and it will, remember that you're not alone. Everyone has problems, and their decisions will affect you. As will yours' affect them. So make the right ones." Her word dieing in the eerie silence that followed. Had Kagome been her old self she would have been fidgeting and drawing circles on the floor with her shoes, but she wasn't so she stood looking at the crowd impassively. After a few moments they broke into wild applause.
$$$$End flashback$$$$
Kagome had been surprised by her own words. She hadn't written anything for the occasion due to Inuyasha and his nagging. Her speech was all B.S. But hey, she didn't get booed off the podium, so it was all-good.
She let out a sigh and went to check up on Sota and Shippou, who where playing video games in the living room. She used her miko powers to hide her scent and presence from them so she could scare them. She had sharpened all of her powers to a `t'. She rarely spoke because she preferred telepathic communication. It was always one-sided though. Not because she lacked the ability, but because she was dead set on not letting anyone play mind-games with her. She has had enough of that with Naraku. She also had the ability to control people through her telepathic powers. She could control some fire, wind, and earth, but her main element was water. Any shape of water, rain, snow, still lakes, rivers, ice, anything. She was widely feared by demons and humans alike in both eras, though for different reasons. In her era it was because she was different, there it was because she was powerful. She hated being feared, but it helped when the demons just gave up the jewel shads at their feet. Though Inuyasha took it as them fearing him, not Kagome. Though she was better than any demon they had ever met at everything, hearing sight strength you name it she could kick your ass at it without even trying, Inuyasha still saw her as the girl he had to protect. Not the woman present today.
She crept down the stairwell and headed to the living room where she could hear them pressing the plastic buttons and making grunting noises and leaning to one side, like it would help their character win. She allowed a tiny smile to seep through her mask as she slid up behind them laying a hand on each of their shoulders; effectively making them scream and scramble away.
Kagome mentally checked the perimeter of her shrine thoroughly before laughing out loud. They stopped cowering at her laugh and with a loud yell tackled her. Shippou used his demon strength to hold her down while Sota attacked her ribs, starting a tickle fight that wouldn't soon be forgotten.
After they caught their breath Kagome heaved a sigh and replaced her stoic mask, grabbed her large black pack (she switched from yellow) and headed out to the well house motioning for the boys to grab their individual packs and follow her. They did so without hesitation.
Once outside Kagome noticed that someone was watching her. She tilted her head to the side slightly and called over her shoulder.
"If you insist on stalking me you could at least do a good job of it."
She could tell by his aura that he was shocked, and slightly angry that she found him out. The man (she can tell his gender by his aura too) reluctantly stepped out of the shadows revealing a toddler. Kagome would have face faulted if she didn't have so much control. His aura was very old; she wasn't expecting this at all. The toddler cleared his through diplomatically.
"Ahem. Yes, well. That proves that you are perfect for our group."
Kagome looked at him suspiciously before letting curiosity get the better of her. "Group?"
The toddler smiled around the pacifier in his mouth. Kagome was surprised that he could talk clearly around that thing.
"Yes, I want you to become a Spirit Detective."
