STARTING OVER

Chapter 2

Kagome was silent a moment before answering in a bland, emotionless voice.
"I refuse."

The toddler, obviously not expecting that, face faulted. She recognized his aura when his guard slipped. He was Koenma. Her body wanted to tremble but she wouldn't let it. His father King Yema was well known for his cruelty. She thought for a moment before deciding that she would be able to defeat him in honest combat, so she stopped worrying about punishment and went back to her normal rude, cold, mannerisms.
By now the prince had pried himself from the ground and regained composure. He coughed slightly and started to explain all the reasons why she should join.
" Well, you see, you shouldn't refuse this prestigious offer so…"
That's about where she stopped listening and started to invade his mind to find the real reasons.

Hmmmmmm. What could I say that would convince her that wouldn't sound like a threat……..

Kagome sweat dropped mentally as she followed his thoughts back to how angry his father would be if he didn't get her to join. He wasn't going anywhere with his thoughts, or his speech so Kagome used her speed to appear in front of him. He gulped audibly, took a step or two back, and started sweating.
"Ummm, well……. I-i-i-i-i-i-i."

His stuttering was getting on her nerves so she raised her hand to slap him, when she felt a huge power coming up the steps.
Kagome turned to Koenma with emotionless eyes, though rage was evident in her stance.

Koenma watched in fascination as the young fox and the human boy ran inside the house, and ran back out carrying a normal looking Japanese stile sword between them. And either they where really weak, or the sword was really heavy, because they where staggering. He was wondering what he had done to spark her anger, when he sensed Yuske charging up the steps, with the rest of the group not far behind him.
For the first time in a long time he feared for Yuske's life. This woman was well known in the demon history books. She was called the Shi no Megami (I'm not sure if its Shi no Megami or Megami no Shi ^_^ sorry, if I'm wrong please tell me). Meaning `Goddess of Death'. Koenma's body started to tremble as Yuske crested the shrine steps just in time to see the woman retrieve her sword from the boys. He knew that this would turn out bad, maybe even in death if he didn't do something. Taking a deep breath he stepped between the calm woman and a panting Yuske flanked by the rest of the Spirit Detectives.

Kagome waited for all of their members to catch their breath before unsheathing her blade. As she did the silver metal shone in the pale moonlight. It was known as Sakki. She was proud of her sword; it was a gift from Totosai and Sesshoumaru. She remembered when she was presented the gift; it was one of the rare times that she smiled. She also remembered her first fight with it.

Kagome was standing stoically in front of a itachi-youkai with five jewel shards implanted in each of it's limbs and one in its forehead. The youkai bellowed angrily and charged full-tilt at her. It was like a game of chicken, the youkai would charge, she wouldn't move, it would jump away at the last second hoping to scare her enough to put her guard down. Its plan failed miserably because she was like a rock, never moving, never even flinching. With a final bellow of rage it hurled itself at her, while it was in the air Kagome unsheathed her sword, swung, and replaced it at her hip, in one swift motion.

Kagome was dragged out of her reverie when the prince stepped in front of her and her would be opponents.
"STOP!!! Yuske stop aiming at her! She is supposed to join us! Why would she do that if we started fighting?" Koenma's face was a little red from yelling.
His face was actually really funny, and though she showed no sign of her amusement, the boys started cracking up.
"Hehehe. You see his face? Poor baby!"
" Ya I know! Hahaha! You want a cookie little boy?"
After that they both dissolved into uncontrolled laughter. Koenma's face reddened, this time it was because of anger. He took a bold step forward, fully intending to smack some sense into the pair, but was stopped by a, once again, angry Kagome.
After his speech she had decided to hear him out, but any one who threatened her family died. Kagome took a slow graceful step forward before leaping in the air and bringing the flat of her blade against his skull, sending him flying into the Goshinboku. He crumpled at its base and didn't more, though she knew him to be alive because she could hear his heartbeat. The boy, Yuske, wasn't so fortunate, and so assumed him dead.
"You. You just killed the ruler of spirit world!" His whole body was shaking from holding in unshed tears, the salty smell of them making her nose twitch. She smirked mentally, he had reacted exactly as she predicted. That was another talent she had picked up over the years, the ability to read people. Her next statement was spoken with a hint of amusement laced within her words.
"He wasn't he ruler, just the care taker."
Yuske was stunned for a moment, surprise etched into his features. That wasn't the answer he was expecting. The surprise quickly turned to rage.
Behind her Shippou stifled a giggle, as he realized her plan to get the detectives to fight. Sota soon followed suit, shoving a fist in his mouth to stop from laughing at the groups' expense.
Two of the boys behind the one called Yuske took notice of her kit and brother. She immediately went into overdrive, sending an invisible wave of purification energy at the demons that where looking intently at her son.
It hit them and they screamed and writhed in pain. The human beside them, and the blue haired-something- jumped to their aid. To her great disappointment both the red head and the short one managed to stand without much assistance. She noticed Yuske readying himself for battle.

Before she attacked all-out she spoke in her bored, monotone voice.
"Why do you attack?"
Yuske stared dumbly before yelling at her in a way that reminded her strongly of Inuyasha.
"What the fuck do you mean? You fucking attacked us first!"
Kagome sighed mentally before explaining.
"The prince threatened my kit, and brother, as did the demons. They only received warnings, next time they wont. The only reason you are still alive is because you never even glanced at them. Though that will change if you continue to make accusations."
When she finished they all looked at her with amazement, apparently because of her `only received warnings' remark. She got the distinct impression that they where impressed. (How many people can use impress in the same sentence twice and make it sound ok? ^^)
Kagome took notice of the moon's position and realized that Inuyasha would bitch if she didn't get back soon.
"Leave, my patience has waned. If you stay, or ever come back I wont hesitate to kill you or anyone you know."
After saying that she focused her powers and teleported them to the most remote place she could think of. (She can teleport to k?)

Yuske was the first to wake up. He looked around and instantly recognized it as the place they had said goodbye to Yukina right after they rescued her from Tuguro (how do you spell that???). He groaned softly and held his head in his hands as a particularly cold gust of wind ripped through his thin shirt. He heard a muffled moan and turned to see who was next to him. He had been surprised that she hadn't split them up, but he though Koenma was dead. So when he saw the blue hat and pacifier sticking out of the snow that covered his face Yuske was elated.
"Koenma! Your alive!"

"Ughhn. Yuske please don't talk so loud, my head is killing me." Koenma's voice was weak, and the pain in it was evident. Yuske immediately shut up and woke up Botan to take them back to the office.
When they got back they checked for injuries. Koenma had a HUGE bump on his head. Seriously it was like one of those squishy gym balls that they play dodge ball with. (You still with me on this one? If not the balls are like a little bit smaller than a soccer ball, but all red, or blue, etc. sorry for the interruption.^^) But Koenma's wasn't squishy, and he screamed like the toddler he was when Yuske poked it experimentally.
Heie's arm that contained the dragon was broken, as was his other wrist; he also had a bump on the head, though his was about the size of a tennis ball.
Kurama's wrists where broken and he had a bump on his head the same size as Hiei's. (Notice that she took out their main weapon? Hiei-sword dragon thing Kumara- rose whip)
Yuske had a small bump on his head, as did Kuwabara and Botan. But none of their injuries where severe thanks to demon healing, and they where all a little scared to go back because of her warning. There was nothing they could do so after a few closing words from Koenma they departed.

Koenma called everyone back to his office a week later to explain their new mission.
"An O.k. guy here's the plan. You go to the shrine of the Shi no Megami.."
"WHOA WHOA WHOA!!! You never said her name was the goddess of death! I'm definitely not going back there ever again! You heard her warning!"
Yuske was glaring at Koenma waiting for the inevitable.

"Too bad Yuske, you're going. We need her on our team, the dark tournament is coming up and Genkia wont do it!"
Yuske shrugged noncommittally.
"So get Jin or Toya or something."
"They already have a team. They reformed the Shinobi and are going to be fighting against us."
Yuske looked a little pale, then gulped loudly.

"So we have to go back there?"
Koenma nodded grimly and gestured for Boton to make the portal.
Yuske groaned and sunk into his chair.
"I'm gonna die!"

Soooo what do ya think? You get to vote on the pairings and if you don't ill get to pick, its pretty much first come first serve. Whoever says a pairing first gets their wish…unless it sucks, then it goes to the runner up ^_^.
