CHAPTER 7
The next day was a stressful one. Kagome had decided that they would train in Singoku Jidia since modern Tokyo had to many people who would ask stupid questions. So the entire day was spent taking them and all of their stuff down the well. That wasn't even the worst part. The worst, by far, was the fact that she had to use the subduing spell on Inuyasha at least twenty times before he was knocked out.
Honestly he is getting to strong for his own good; maybe I should just put a stronger spell on him…hmm.
Kagome thought as she sat by the fire Shippou had made. Only the tree of them, Sota Shippou and herself, where calm and silent because the SD's where all restless, not being used to the feel of a younger earth.
I hate this. I hate this. I hate this. I hate this. I hate this.
Kagome kept the mantra going in her head as Yuske started to complain. Shippou seemed to share her annoyance. He was grinding his teeth and clenching his fists in an effort not to attack him. He soon lost control, however, when Yuske started grumbling with new vigor.
"Why the fuck do we have to be here anyways? This place feels funny. Why can I sense so many demons? Why is the sky bl-" He was cut off when Shippou used the same move Sota had. He brought his combined fists down on the back of Yuske's neck. Sending him crashing to the earth.
To say the Spirit Detectives where surprised would be an understatement. To think that a small kitsune child no more than 11 or 12 could bring down their exulted leader with one crushing blow was a bit on the mind-boggling side. Hiei glared at Kagome for a moment.
"Why didn't you tell us of your power?"
His face was stoic, but his voice belied his irritation.
"I don't want to." Kagome's voice held a veiled threat that was blatantly obvious to everyone present.
"Why." Hiei's tone held a threat as well, though much less subtle.
"I don't trust you."
Her answer was simple. No hidden threat. No hidden motives. No deception. Hiei noted dully that she was treating him like Yuske and Kurama; cold and distant. She didn't trust any of them.
She doesn't trust me.
That one little sentence caused his heart to twist painfully.
Why? It was lust. So why do I feel hurt, why do I feel betrayed?
Hiei was lost in thought for the rest of the night contemplating his feelings for the icy miko on his left.
Kagome was slightly curious to find out what had Hiei so concerned, but decided against peeking into his mind. After all, they where on the same team so she would let him keep some secrets. Kagome shrugged psychologically (I love that word!) and prepared for bed, telepathically instructing her family to do the same.
Sleep, tomorrow will start our training. You will need your rest.
With that all three where asleep, though Kagome slept very lightly. She didn't trust the detectives at all, and was expecting them to attack in her sleep.
**
They hadn't. Kagome was a little surprised; she had fully expected to wake in the middle of the night with a blade between her ribs. She was unharmed.
Come on Kagome! You are supposed to fight along side these people! Get your act together!
Kagome walked silently to her bag whilst waking Shippou and Sota. They woke as soon as they felt her cerebral touch, springing up with the lightning speed she had drilled into them.
After a quick check to make sure the others where still sleeping she smiled reassuringly.
" Lets bathe."
Sota let out a breath he didn't notice he was holding in. His sister only awoke them like that to test their reaction time. Sota smiled at the memory.
###Flashback###
Sota
Sota turned towards the voice he had heard. It was coming from the direction of the forest. But he knew no one was there. This was his dream, and he was in complete control. So how could there be anyone there?
Sota!
The voice seemed more familiar, more urgent. Sota began to panic. What was going on?!
SOTA! Wake up! Help me!
"Kagome!"
Sota woke screaming his sister's name, flinging the sheets from his body and scrambling out of his bed. He tripped several times in his haste to get to her room. He noted Shippou beside him as he bolted up the stairs.
They arrived in record time, panting and looking about frantically for whatever had threatened her life.
What they found made them face fault. Kagome was sitting on her bed watching Saturday morning cartoons, sipping her tea.
"Kagome! You scared the shit out of me!" Sota all but screamed in her face.
Kagome just smiled reassuringly.
"I wanted to see your reaction time." She looked them both in the eye and spoke in her no-nonsense tone, "I am disappointed. We will train until I am satisfied with your reflexes." She smiled one last time before leaving to go down stairs.

##END##
Sota was brought from his revere when he heard the leaves to his right rustle. He looked to Kagome and Shippou and saw that they heard it to.
Take care of it then join us in the hot spring.
Sota nodded slightly towards them, showing that he understood his instructions. Shippou smiled at him before grabbing Kagome's hand and dragged her in the direction of the hot spring.
Sota watched them disappear in the flora before turning to where he felt the youkai.
"Come out." His voice was cold and apathetic.
When the youkai didn't move Sota concentrated his power and focused it into dagger he always carried with him. When Sota felt the eyes of the youkai on him he used his favorite move.
He used his inhuman speed to appear behind the low class youkai, slashing its throat quickly and silently. Keeping his apathetic mask in place, he cleaned his blade on the carcass of the now dead youkai.
Sota felt a familiar youki behind him, but disregarded it in favor of rubbing the green blood of the youkai off of his dagger. Once he was satisfied Sota rose and spoke in the same voice he had used on the youkai.
"If you hurt her I will kill you."
Without waiting for an answer, he turned and followed his kin to the hot spring.
Hiei watched the child depart.
That boy…he was serious…For the first time in a long time Hiei was afraid. He could kill me easily.
Hiei shook his head violently. This was no time to start fearing children. A few disturbing images passed through his minds eye. They where of the boy comforting the miko, and of him standing over his own motionless figure. Hiei closed his jagan firmly and returned to camp.
I will not fear a child.
**
Kagome watched as Sota walked out of the woods with an indifferent look plastered over his features. Kagome smiled warmly.
"You have to wash my hair."
Her voice was as cold as ever, but Sota knew that she loved him.
"Hai Onee-chan, I'm coming."
Kagome watched as Sota waded out to join them in the steaming water. His body was that of a fighter. His shoulders where wide, but not to wide. His waist was slim, but in a masculine way. He was handsome. His hair was a little past his shoulders when he took it out of the braid that was almost always present. It was a beautiful midnight black. His muscles where large for a boy his age, but not grossly so, his pale skin marred only by the five scars he received from the ryuu. His eyes so dark they appeared black.
Shippou was almost his opposite. He was just as handsome, but Shippou had an exotic air about him. Shippou's eyes where a beautiful jade color. His hair, when down, was to the middle of his back, and was a reddish color. His shoulders weren't as wide as Sota's but weren't slim either. His skin was tan, and flawless. Shippou also appeared younger than he was. He was fifteen; the same age as Sota, but appeared to be 11. It wasn't his true form, but then again she and Sota weren't in theirs either.
Kagome was dragged from her thoughts by a tug on her hair.
"Hm?"
She turned to see Sota holding out his had for the shampoo bottle. She handed it to him and turned to look at Shippou.
I love you
Kagome had sent the message to both of them, hoping to get the same response. She wasn't disappointed; they turned on her and enveloped her in a hug, murmuring how much they loved her in return.
After they finished their bath they braided their hair, since it kept it out of the way and could be used as a weapon that way, and put on their training gear. Complete with weighted shoes, wrist guards, shirts and weapons. They made their way back to camp slowly, weighted down as they where. When they arrived they where greeted by the smell of breakfast. The tree of them ate sparingly, knowing the work they would be doing, while the detectives ate like they had just survived a ten-year famine.
**
They gathered in a meadow about a mile from camp.
"Sota spar with Hiei you are up first. Shippou you're with Kurama, and Yuske you're with me. We will go last."
They all nodded and everyone except Sota and Hiei moved to sit on the out skirts of the meadow.
Sota immediately dropped into a defensive pose, his mask automatically falling into place. Hiei stood, motionless. There is no way that he was going to let the miko order him around.
Sota, seeing what Hiei was doing, decided to attack. He used the same trick he had used earlier that day. He appeared beside Hiei using the weighted bokken (sp?) as a pole vault, sending himself flying at the surprised jaganshi. Sota aimed his kick at the back of Hiei's neck, but wanted to see if he would be able to dodge so he shouted his name seconds before his foot connected.
It was enough time for Hiei to doge, but nothing else. Sota was sorely dissatisfied, he thought the demon was faster than that. He shrugged mentally and kicked Hiei on the stomach and threw him off of his hip. Hiei was unconscious before he hit the ground.
Kagome motioned for Sota to drag Hiei to her so she could heal him. She gestured and Hiei awoke with a start, jumping to his feet. Shippou and Sota snickered behind their fists.
"What is so funny?" Heie was obviously pissed.
Sota cleared his throat in an attempt to stop laughing before speaking.
"I thought you where stronger than you are."
Shippou fell to the ground and rolled back and forth until Kagome mentally told him that it was time to fight the other kitsune. He nodded and teleported to the middle of the field. Kurama swallowed loudly before following the young fox's example.
Shippou took up a basic defensive stance, but didn't bother to mask his emotions. Kurama smiled, thinking that the kit had underestimated him.
Kurama tried to make the grass under Shippou's feet grown and trap him, but it wasn't responding. Kurama was so puzzled by this that he jumped when Shippou spoke.
"You've been human to long. You can't even control grass." He `tsked' and sunk into the ground. Kurama's eyes widened, then closed as he felt incredible pain explode from his back. He sunk to his knees and fell I to blissful oblivion.
Shippou sniggered again as he dragged Kurama by his feet to where Kagome could reach him. She healed him much the same way as she had Hiei, only it took longer because he had broken his back, not just hit his solar plexus.
Yuske gulped loudly. He had never met anyone as strong as these people. He shook his head to clear it.
I wont go down that easy!
He strode purposefully into the meadow, with Kagome a few paces behind him. She looked the same as she always did, with the exception of baggy clothes, and braided hair. He couldn't read anything from her face. She, on the other hand, could read him like a book; he was nervous, but determined.
Without warning she leapt at him, but he dodged to the side, only to bump into something soft but unmoving. He turned and the last thing he saw before he blacked out was the bottom of her shoe.
Kagome kneeled down and healed him quickly. When he woke up she walked away.
"Shippou, now you fight Hiei, Sota and Yuske, and me and Kurama. We will continue fighting until all of you can land a punch." Kagome motioned for Shippou to proceed. He teleported to the middle again and Hiei walked out slowly, holding his stomach slightly.
**
They continued fighting, though they would take days off and run or swim or do push-ups all day. They results of the fights where the same for about two weeks, then the detectives started to get better… until Kagome made them ware the same training gear as her. Kagome and the boys would sometimes stay up at night and spar or work out without the detectives to hold them back. They continued this type of exercise the entire time, frequently adding weight to, or intensifying their training.
By the end of the six months they had all vastly improved. Kagome had also collected a few jewel shards from passing youkai.
They also trusted each other…well the spirit detectives trusted them; they just didn't attack when one or more of the detectives touched or talked to them. Along with trust they understood each other. Somewhere in the training the detectives had managed to weasel Kagome into telling her past, so they knew why she was cold, and why she came to the past.
**
Kagome had left a few days ago to fetch their armor. Shippou and Sota could feel her coming and stood up. The others noticed this and stood up as well. They had come to respect Kagome and called her `Kagome-sama' they also treated her as leader of the group. So when she came out of the woods with a large package they all bowed and went to help her… well Yuske and Kurama went to help, Hiei just bowed then sat down.
Kagome ignored their efforts to help, setting down the large parcel. She opened it silently, noting that they where all watching with fascination.
She took out three packages and handed them to the spirit detectives, saying only two words.
"Get dressed."
They nodded and moved to undress while Sota, Shippou, and she left to dress as well. When they met back up everyone but Kagome was surprised.
Yuske was wearing s pair of loose dark blue hakamas. His shirt was white with no sleeves. His armor consisted of a plane indestructible silver breastplate and wrist guards made from the same material. He had on black combat boots, and a sword at his hip. He was almost as good as Hiei now.
Kurama had on white hakamas that weren't as loose as Yuske's but still loose. His shirt was white as well, but it had large sleeves where he kept his seeds. He had a dark blue breastplate with a tree on the front, and nothing else. He had on white boots, and had a strange metal whip tucked into his belt.
Hiei had on baggy black hakamas and a tight black wife beater. His armor was a breastplate with two black dragons fighting all over it. The dragons where actually moving, and perpetually fighting. He had on black arm guards that where plane. He had on black combat boots, and had his sword at his hip.
Shippou had on blue hakamas with a light blue haori. He didn't have on any armor and was barefoot. The only thing he carried was a sword.
Sota looked much the same, except his hakamas where dark green and his haori was light green.
Kagome was wearing baggy black hakamas and a haori that looked just like inu's except black. Her armor was a black breastplate and arm guards with Sakki at her hip, a whip hidden in the folds of her haori, and various other weapons hidden on her person. She wasn't wearing shoes, but had on foot guards. (Think of those things that Yura wore.) Her hair was down and cascading down her back.
"Lets go."
Kagome motioned in the general direction of the well.
**
Several hours found them on their way to the dark tournament on a boat covered in lifeless demons.
When they arrived at the island they where escorted to their room by an overly polite hotel worker. Once there Kagome went to the room on the right and spoke over her shoulder.
"Rest well, we fight tomorrow at ten. We are up against a team called the `Shinobi'."
