Coming Out
.o0O0o. SANGO .o0O0o.
I tried to get up as I heard Kagome's pained screams. InuYasha yelled out to her, but her wide, blue eyes told that she didn't hear.
Then, her screams started to fade, and a bright orange light momentarily blinded me. When my vision returned, a kitsune was standing where Kagome had been.
She was a mountain kitsune, a slightly different breed than Shippo. The vixen had waist-length, flaming red hair and a tan tail tipped in orange. She wore an orange body suit that had parts missing here and there, exposing as much of her skin as it covered. Strings of stones wrapped loosely around her neck, wrists, and both ankles. There were also two strange stone combs clipped into her hair.
The only visible weapon on her was a katana at her hip, kept there by a loosely tied tan cloth belt. Two streaks of color went across her face, red and orange, and her eyes were an odd mix of red, orange and yellow that reminded me of the sunset. Right now, those eyes were fixed on our opponent.
"Naraku," She said smoothly. Her tail started a hypnotizing dance behind her.
"Who're you?" The hanyou demanded, "And what have you done with my miko?" the vixen's eyebrow rose.
"YOU'RE miko? I was under the impression you two were on different sides of your battle." Then her eyes hardened again. "Or is she simply yours because she is the one whom by tainting will taint the Shikon no Tama?" Naraku chuckled.
"I take it you're here for the jewel, kitsune?" Naraku said with a fluid chill in his voice. The vixen looked disgusted.
"A trinket like the Shikon has no value to me. Besides, why would I want something cursed so that all around it live an unbearable life? No, at first we were in it for the hunt, then for our companions." I blinked. We? Our?! Who the hell has this woman?!?! "Now, all we have to do is kill you and we and our kit can return to our own life," I could see now I wasn't the only one who was confused. InuYasha sniffed tentavily in her direction, and his eyes widened in shock.
"KAGOME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" the vixen gave him a brief look, then kept her eyes on Naraku as she answered.
"Yes and no. I'm another part of Kagome. A kitsune soul that willed itself to be reborn in the body of a human. Course, I didn't find out till later that the human was a miko, but beggars can't be choosers, and besides, I've grown attached." Her glare hardened on Naraku again. "See, you made a mistake in attacking Kagome's soul. You nearly killed her, and if I hadn't taken over when I did, you would have," InuYasha's grip on Tetsusaiga tightened.
"So, you've possessed Kagome, have you?" the kitsune sighed.
"You aren't following things, are you, you baka hanyou," she said in irritation. "I merged with Kagome's soul before she was even born. I've grown up with her, fought with her, saw everything she saw, and went through everything she went through. I haven't possessed Kagome, I'm simply another part of her that has come forward until her soul recovers enough to retake our body." That made sense (In the twisted way that could only come from demonic reason.) And it explained a lot about Kagome.
"What the hell are you talking about?!?!?! That doesn't make any sense!!!!!!" I sighed.
"Ignore him,"
"I try to," I stifled a laugh. Was this really another part of Kagome? "Now, then," She said to Naraku, "Should I show you the power I've gain from three hundred years of fighting, and the end results of seventeen years in a teenage miko?" As she said this, she held out one hand, showing four pebbles, one between each finger.
"What the hell can a couple of pebbles do?!" InuYasha asked in irritation.
"A lot," I answered, watching in awe as her youki twisted and played around her, "This vixen is a Mountain kitsune, and since kitsunes take their energy from their elements, she can do quite a bit with a single pebble."
"You did you homework," the vixen said with a fanged grin. She threw one pebble up in the air, and the others had disappeared by the time she caught it.
"Stones or no, I will not let you keep me from the goal I've had for so long!" Naraku said, lunging for the kitsune. She smiled and threw the stone at him.
The hanyou put up on arm to protect himself from the pebble, only to have it seemingly absorb into his arm. He stared in shock before turning back to the vixen.
"Kitsune, what have you done?!" She gave him a fanged grin.
"That pebble had a very interesting spell on it I was inspired to create after seeing Midoriko's stone remains." Now the vixen smirked. "Three, two, one…" Naraku started to turn into stone, starting from the place where the pebble hit and spreading throughout his body.
"Damn you!" Naraku said, before a look of realization struck his face and he let out a cold laugh. "This won't end here! None of you have seen the last of me! Especailly you, my vixen. You and your miko counterpart will both be mine soon enough."
With those last words, Naraku's soul left his body right before it was totally incased in stone. Our youkai companion scowled.
"Damn it. That spell was supposed to hold his soul in the remains so we wouldn't have to worry about reincarnation." She sighed, then turned to the rest of us. "Err… Hi?"
I looked to Kirara, who was helping Miroku and InuYasha back to Kaede's hut. The mountain vixen was acting as a demon crutch for me, as we slowly made our way back to the village, the jewel shards safely in a pouch at the vixen's hip, for when Kagome recovered so she could purify them.
All the villagers came out to greet us staring at the vixen aiding me in surprise. Kaede had the same look on her face when she came out of her hut, but Shippo's face lit up.
"Senshi-kaa-san!!!!!!!!!" he yelled running over and jumping onto her shoulder and increasing everyone's shock. The vixen, now identified as Senshi, smiled at him in a motherly way.
"Hello, Kit," Shippo grinned at her before his face fell in concern.
"Why are you out? Did something happen to Kagome-kaa-san? Did you help beat Naraku? He's dead now, isn't he? Is everyone okay? What are we gonna do now? Can we-?" Senshi put a claw over Shippo's mouth, successfully silencing him.
"One at a time, Shippo, one at a time!" the kit nodded.
"So?!"
"Kagome got hit with a nasty attack during the fight, and I had to take over for a while. She will be fine, once she regains conscious thought, I'll give her the body back. Yes, we beat Naraku, but unfortunately, his soul got away. Everyone's fine and Kagome and I still have to help Sessho-maru out. Once that's done, we'll plan things out from there." Shippo nodded and InuYasha stepped forward, starting at the kit incredulously.
"You know this bitch?!?!?!" He demanded. Shippo nodded happily.
"She's my other new kaa-san, Senshi! Kagome-kaa-san told me all about her a while back."
"Why the hell didn't you tell us?!?!?!"
"They asked me not to," Shippo explained. Senshi sighed.
"It's a long story, and one I can't get into now. I will tell you after everyone's better, but it's not the right time." I smiled.
"Well, as long as we get told sometime," Miroku nodded from Kirara's back. He was taking this all in with a remarkably calm attitude. Senshi turned to Kaede.
"I think these guys are gonna need help with their wounds now. Miroku took in about a hundred poisonous insects, and Sango and InuYasha were almost beaten into the next century, so they need to be seen to before any questions are answered." Senshi pointed out, taking another step towards the hut. Kaede nodded and held up the flap.
"Of course. Come in, children. I've prepared some herbs for ye already,"
I sighed in relief as Senshi tied the last of my bandages.
"I know. Being wounded is the worst." The vixen said, flipping her hair before plopping on the ground. "And you don't even have the youkai blood to speed the process along." I looked at her, startled.
"Yes. I always feel so weak when I've been hurt." I admitted.
"I know. I've seen everything Kagome has, remember? And believe me, she's a lot more observant than she lets on. Tell you the truth, I had an enemy that made me feel like that as well," Now Senshi scowled. "Jackass was always finding out how to get around my spells and stones. `Course, even that couldn't have been used to his full advantage considering that as he found the weak spots in my rocks, I found the ones in his flowers,"
"Flowers?"
"Yeah, he was a spirit kitsune, mainly their magic focuses on plant life so the bastard carried seeds wherever he went." (AN; ^-^)
"I see…" I smiled at the pout on her face. "What happened between you?"
"Nothing! Why does everyone think there was something going on?! We hated each other!!!!" I nearly laughed at that.
"I was talking about with your fighting. Did you guys eventually kill each other or what?"
"Oh. Ignore that last outbreak then," I smirked at the barely visible blush, before I saw her face somber, "No. He was killed a little before I was forced to send myself to live in Kagome." Now her face twisted into a bitter look, "The creep! I was supposed to have been the one to kill him!" I flashed her a look of sympathy, that went unnoticed, "I'll never forgive him for dying."
"Who was stronger?" I asked, trying to steer the conversation away from death. Senshi blinked.
"Well, to be perfectly honest, we were evenly matched. Both of us got away with the same amount of damage ever since we were kits." I rose an eyebrow.
"How long have you known him?"
"318 years," I choked, "Then he died. I stayed alive for about three months more and, well…"
"I still want the full story," We turned at InuYasha's loud grumbling, and Senshi rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah, tell me something I don't know," Shippo snuggled into Senshi's arms and she smiled at him. "So where do you want me to start?"
"The beginning will be nice," Miroku said, watching her carefully. Senshi laughed.
"Alright, the beginning it is. My name is Senshi Nozomi, and I'm a mountain kitsune that will be born roughly two hundred years from now. My parents abandoned me when I was a kit, so I made a livin' fighting, using winnings to buy a little food. A regular street rat. Anyways, I only had two things left of my life with mommy and daddy dearest. One was Yamakatta here, and the other was my knowledge of our kinds magic gained under their roof." When she said Yamakatta, she patted the hilt of her katana, which glowed in response.
"I take it Yamakatta isn't an ordinary katana," I said. Senshi grinned lazily at me.
"Nope. This little baby's a 100% kitsune creation, and our kind's magic can be channeled into it, causing it to react depending upon breed and power. If the kitsune is strong enough, the blade is unstoppable," I could feel Senshi's pride in the weapon. "Anyways, I decided I wasn't going to be weak, like my parent's allowed themselves to be. I'd train both my body and magic, and allow my name spread all over."
"But…" Miroku said. Senshi wrinkled her nose at him.
"BUT it got an unexpected and unwelcomed result, too. When I was still young, another kit my age approached me claiming to be a thief and saying he wanted my katana. I refused to let him have it, and we began an intense feud from that day forward, which would reach a legendary climax as we ourselves became legends. The unstoppable thief and The untamable warrioress. The fight didn't end until he died."
"I don't want your life history! I want to know why the hell you share a body with Kagome!" Senshi gave the hanyou a hard glare.
"I'm getting to that, pup. If you don't shut up, I'll turn you into a pebble and let Shippo skip you across the lake." Could she do that? I realized as her aura flared around her that I NEVER wanted to find out.
"Feh," InuYasha said, but he shut up. So he did have self preservation instincts after all…
"Anyways, not long after the creep died, Someone stole some stupid artifact the youkai government had taken from my family before turning their backs on us and leaving us for the dead. They immediately presumed I was the thief, having no other leads, and sent their goons after me. I should have won, but there were too many, and they were cheating."
"Cheating?" I repeated.
"They had some kind of miko that made a barrier, so I couldn't use my powers, meaning my stones and Yamakatta were useless. I still got a lot of them, though, but that one bastard got me from behind…" Senshi sighed. "I've committed their faces to memory, and I still intend on killing them and the ones that framed me."
"So, you died?" InuYasha said in confusion.
"Of course not. I was supposed to, but I remembered something I had learned in my training. I sent my soul into the ningenkai to allow my spirit to heal. In order to do that, I had to share a body with a human.
"Hence you and Kagome," Miroku finished.
"You knew."
"I trusted Kagome. I believed she would tell us when the time was right."
"And here you were trying to con us into believing you weren't a good monk." Miroku chuckled at Senshi's statement.
"How come you didn't tell us sooner?" I asked, frowning.
"We didn't want you dragged into our problems. It was bad enough Shippo and our little brother found out, we couldn't let anyone else get hurt over us. Kagome's spirit wouldn't allow it. And neither would I." Then, Senshi got this look on her face like something dawned on her. "Oh, man! Little Brother! I nearly forgot- come on!" She grabbed my hand and dragged me out the door, pausing long enough to call out. "Hey Kirara! I'm gonna need to carry your mistress, okay?" the fire cat mewed and shifted to her larger form. The next thing I knew, I was being whisked away to the battlegrounds.
"Senshi, what-?"
"You want Kohaku back, right?"
"What? Yes, of course!"
"Well, I know a way you can get him. Remember the fairy tale Kagome told Shippo? Sleeping Beauty?" I nodded again, remembering the story about the spinning wheel and the sleeping princess. "Well, that story was actually inspired by an old spell I happen to know. It's called a shifting spell, and it can lock souls back into their bodies, changing them so that in a hundred years time, they can live again. Course, you can always have the spell go on a little longer, make sure the person inside truly is alive when they awaken… For example, you can wait five hundred years." Suddenly, it clicked.
"You mean…"
"He won't be able to come back to the past, and unfortunately, he'll retain his memories of what he did under Naraku's control, but he'll be alive, and you two can start over in a new era." I felt tears rise to my eyes and threw my arms around Senshi.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" Senshi laughed.
"Calm down. And it's not me you should be thanking. Kagome's the one who spent day and night in the Makai trying to find a spell to help you, under the excuse of study time at the library or test of course, and she's the one who made us practice a million times on plants and animals until we got it absolutely perfect every single time and could perform it instantly on command." I laughed.
"She cares so much about others."
"Believe me, I know," Senshi shook her head, then frowned, "There is one other catch. In order for the spell to work, the body is changed to that of a youkai so it doesn't age. He will keep the same mind frame, but he will physically, be the youkai his blood most resembles at heart in general. It will change you into a youkai, too, as his only living blood, so he doesn't have to go through it alone." I nodded.
"Anything. I'll do anything to stay with Kohaku." Senshi grinned and drew her katana.
"Okay then! Here's where it gets fun." She started a strange incantation in another language. Yamakatta started glowing orange as her ki flared around her again.
Kohaku and I started to glow as well, and I felt my insides and outsides begin to twist and reform. Stone formed around Kohaku, forming into a large bolder still glowing with Senshi's magic and I sat there, reeling in shock after my almost instant transformation.
I was a little shorter now. That was the first thing I noticed. Then I saw my claws. I stared at them in shock for the longest time. I ran my tongue over my teeth, pausing at the sharp canines. Fangs and claws, check.
~Well, this is unexpected.~
"What is?"
"GNAH!!!!!!!!" Senshi glared at me, "A little warning would be nice, you know!!!" she grumbled. I blinked giving her a questioning look. She sighed before tugging a small, shiny pebble loose, making it grow until it was a little larger than me, almost like a large mirror. I couldn't believe what I saw.
I was most definitely shorter, though my hair had gotten longer, and was now streaked with blue and violet. My eyes were black now, and I had blue eye shadow and lips. My ears where pointed and the only symbol on me was a small, eye shape in the center of my forehead, which had a black center, blue on either sides and outlined in violet. I blinked, wondering what the hell I was.
"What am I?" I asked out loud. Senshi fell over.
"What do you mean, `what are you?!?!'" she yelled, "can't you tell?!?!"
"Umm… no," As Kagome would say, what was the big deal? Senshi let out an exasperated sigh.
"You're a Yogensha," I stared at Senshi. She had to be kidding…
"WHAT?!?!" I exclaimed. "That's impossible!!! Yogensha are only made-up youkai to scare people away from dangerous places, aren't they?"
"Of course not," Senshi said, rolling her eyes, "I was trained by one when I was a kid. He was the one who told me the theory about transferring a living youkai soul into a pregnant human female and being reborn. Never tried it himself, though. It was only a theory at the time, and no one completely knows what happens. Hell, Kagome and I don't even know!" I gave her a puzzled look.
"Then, why did you try it?" I asked, "So much could've gone wrong, so much could STILL go wrong. Why take that kind of risk?" Senshi scowled.
"Revenge," She said softly, "I wanna kill the bitch that framed me, and give the Reikai hell for trying to kill me without proper evidence I was the one who stole the damn book." I felt my curiosity shift.
"Who framed you? What's the Reikai? What book?" Senshi blinked before laughing.
~It's been so long that I've talked to anyone who didn't already know my whole story.~ She mused.
"I'll tell you when Kagome's better. Right now, I've got another eight billion things to deal with."
"Like?"
"HEY, KAGOME!!!!!!!!"
"That."
`Something in her scent changed. I don't like this…'
"Three… two… one…" a whirlwind broke through the trees, stopping in front of Senshi.
"Who are you?!" Kouga demanded gruffly. "And why do you two smell like Kagome and that tajiya?!"
"Nice to see you too, Kouga." Senshi said, leveling a glare at the wolf.
`She knows my name?'
"Who are you?!" Kouga repeated.
"I'm who you're nose says I am, you dolt. I'm Kagome. More or less, anyways. And this is still the same Sango, just a super strong telepathic demon race of legendary strength Sango."
`No way!'
"You're not Kagome! Kagome's human and you're a kitsune!!!" Senshi cocked an eyebrow at him.
"Figure that out all by yourself?" she asked. "Yes, I'm a kitsune, and yes Kagome's human, but I said I am more or less Kagome, not that I AM her. We are two different souls inhabiting the same body. When the torment of her human soul became too much for her to handle, I exerted control over our body and gave her a needed opportunity to rest."
"What do you mean you exterted control over her body? You possessed her?!" Senshi sighed.
~Really, no trust among men nowadays… or whatever.~
"No, I did NOT possess Kagome. In a way, I AM Kagome. I was born with her, raised with her, saw everything she did and know everything she thinks. I know more about her than anyone else here. Particuarly you, Kouga,"
"Are you sayin' I don't know my woman?!?!"
"She's not your woman Kouga. And I know you don't know her." Senshi said with narrowed eyes.
"Of course I know her!!!"
"Then tell me, Kouga, where is she from? And tell me what you know about her family, and why she has such a strange kimono while you're at it."
"…err…"
"Oh, and if you know her, you must know what her hopes and dreams were, and why she was so determined to have the jewel put back together."
"Well…"
"And you obviously know her favorites. Foods, flowers, time of year…"
"That stuff doesn't matter!!!"
"It does to Kagome."
"Heh. Like anyone pays attention to that stuff." Senshi turned to me with a raised eyebrow.
"Sango?" I caught on and looked Kouga straight in the eye.
"She's from a land called Tokyo, five hundred years in the future, and travels here through a time portal. The kimono is called a school uniform, and she is required to wear it in her time. She wants to settle down in her own time and finish her education, before finding a good job and a family of her own, other than Shippo who is already her surrogated son. And she wanted the jewel put back together out of guilt for breaking it. Her favorite food is oden, flower is the sakura and time of year is spring."
"She knows that stuff because Kagome tells her!!!"
"no, she knows it because she cared enough about Kagome as a friend to find out about her and help her when she was in trouble."
"I helped Kagome!!!"
"You gave her a little help once during a fight with a demon after you ran away from him. Even then, It was InuYasha, Sango and Miroku who did most of the work. AND you nearly killed her after Kagura killed your pack." Here, she turned towards the forest. "Speaking of which, you two can stop hiding in the shadows, I know you're there."
Kouga and I turned to see Kagura and Kanna enter the clearing. Kagura was keeping her eyes trained on Kouga, who started growling as soon as she entered, while Kannas empty gaze sat on Senshi.
"Sorry, but it was terribly amusing to watch, and we didn't want to interrupt." Kagura said smoothly. Kouga's growling increased.
"What the hell are you doing here?!?!"
"We came to thank the miko," Kagura said shortly, glaring at him.
"Thank KAGOME?!?!"
"That's right. She saved us from Naraku. If not for her, we'd still be his unwilling slaves. Now, though, We have our hearts back, and can do as we please."
"Instead of killing us, the miko transported us far enough away so that Naraku couldn't feel us, and put a consealment spell up for added protection. But her powers where drained enough by having to put up so many spells so fast, and Naraku's own spell was able to break through her natural barriers." Kanna explained in a hush whisper.
"And I'm in charge of our body until she comes to." Senshi said, grinning at the pale child.
"Hmph. You don't seem like the type to submit to a human without a fight." Kouga said suspiciously "How do we know you just won't keep control over Kagome's body?"
"Because, even though we share it, this is still Kagome's body. I can't maintain control if she decides she wants it back. Hell, I can barely exert control over her to take over a body part for a few minutes without her consent. Kagome's a very strong willed girl, after all, and the miko powers don't help. Now, if your finished I suggest you leave me and my counterpart alone. We've got serious work to do when she wakes up."
~She's gonna kill me for this…~ Senshi thought as she headed back to the hut. You didn't have to be a genius to guess who `she' was.
"Kanna, Kagura, I want you to come with me. Kagome and I might be in need of your assistance when she wakes." Then, the kitsune turned to me, "Coming Sango?"
|Of course| I winced as everyone else jumped.
"We've got to work on that," Senshi said as Kouga grumbled incoherently and took off. I had to shake my head when I realized that Senshi had just accomplished something InuYasha had been trying since he met the wolf prince.
She'd just scared Kouga off.
