Kagome sighed softly as she looked at the home she shared with Yusuke. It was good to be back, but at the same time she felt an ache in her soul because she was missing the feel of youki that sparked and filled the air. The feeling was something that she had become accustomed to over time, and to no longer feel it was odd. Having Yusuke there made things easier on her as he had a massive aura that lashed out and surrounded others in a dominant manner.

Deciding that a bath sounded nice she made her way to the bathroom and ran a hot bubble bath in order to soak and relax her tensed muscles. It was while she was in the bath that Yusuke got home and walked into the bathroom, not knowing she was there. His eyes got wide before he apologized and turned his back to her so that she didn't think he was peeping. He heard the water swish as she moved and then felt as her arms wrapped around him and her face buried into his back.

“I've missed you, Yusuke.”

Her whispered words caused him to smile as he slowly turned to face her and tilted her mouth up to meet his in a searing kiss. Minutes later they broke apart when both needed air and Kagome was flushed from the passion. “And I missed you as well, kimi o ai shitemasu Koishii.”

Widened blue/gray eyes snapped up to meet his in amazement before she launched herself up and into his arms, her legs wrapping around his hips and she moved to kiss him again. This time was more passionate than before and Yusuke was almost knocked off his feet from everything that he was feeling. He had taken a chance by admitting the extent of his feelings for her, but it appeared that his feelings were returned in full if her reaction was anything to go by.

When they finally broke apart Kagome snuggled into his chest and nuzzled him causing him to laugh a little and smile when she looked up at him with a purely happy smile. His feet did the thinking for him as he carried and set her down on the bed before lying next to her. He didn't care that she was still wet and was turning the sheets wet as well. All he cared about was that the beautiful girl that was lying next to him responded in a positive way to his admission. She once again snuggled up to him and whispered, “I love you, too, Yusuke, my Koibito.”

Warmth spread through his body as she said that, his breath caught for a moment, and even his heart skipped a beat. His chocolate eyes gazed into hers before he decided to take a chance. “Kagome, I know that we haven't known each other all that long, but I know that I love you more than anything. I'm not the greatest when it comes to things like this, but I know you're the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. So, will you Kagome Higurashi, mate me?”

Widened eyes looked into his before lowering sadly, “I wish I could say yes, but you hardly know everything about me.”

A tightness was in his chest as he heard her words, but he decided that he wasn't going to take no for an answer. “I'm willing to spend the rest of my life learning everything about you. Besides, I don't care about anything else besides who you are, and I know that. You are Kagome, the woman I love, you love children, and you fight to protect all those that you hold dear. And I don't want to regret not being able to spend all the time I can with you while I can, because I'll probably be fighting against that Hideki dude in a month. Please Kagome, I love you and nothing else matters.”

Tears were in her eyes and slowly falling down her porcelain in skin by the time he finished with his little speech and her throat was too tight to say anything so she simply nodded with a watery smile before managed to choke out a `yes' just before he began to kiss her again.

Kagome was slow to wake the next morning as she slept in from her late night of activities. After a stretch her hand slowly moved to her shoulder to where Yusuke left his mark, claiming her as his own. His mark was a tribal tattoo, just like the ones he said covered his body when he turned demon. In the heat of the moment her own power rose and surged forward, marking him as hers for all eternity. Her mark was a pure white circle with an arrow piercing through it.

Today was going to be a good day she felt, as she rose to her feet and dressed for the day. Yusuke was already gone for the day, most likely to train with his friends in order to prepare for the tournament. She had already known that he would be likely to compete, but it still wasn't a pleasant thought to think of him as being injured. She never did like seeing the people she loved being injured.

She herself would be preparing for the upcoming tournament as Sesshoumaru was certain that Hideki would be showing his face in order to face them, and she had a feeling that her adoptive brother would be correct in his theory. Her power needed to be at its zenith in order to take on this foe, and her skills needed to be sharpened to perfection. She had a feeling that this was going to be a difficult fight and that she would be pushed to her limits in order to win the battle and save everything that she held dear.

Yusuke and the others were training while Koenma watched to see their progress when Hiei noticed the mark that lay upon the detective's chest, right over where his heart would be. Using his speed he quickly slammed into the man and pinned him temporarily before zipping away when Yusuke sent a blast of energy at him. “What the fuck was that for Hiei?”

“Hn. You have mated with the onna and she was powerful enough to mark you in return.” It was a statement and not a question as he looked at his team leader with a slight amount of rage.

“Yeah, what of it? Not like you really care about what I do with her.”

“Yusuke, she could be an enemy spy and you just tied your life with hers!” Kurama exclaimed as he looked at his friend in surprise.

Red began seeping into chocolate as his eyes snapped to looking at emerald. In the blink of an eye Yusuke had him hauled up and slammed him bodily against a tree. “What the fuck did you just say about my mate?!”

“She knew how to heal Yukina when no one else did, and she knew all about demons.”

“You honestly think that she's the enemy? Just because she put you in your fuckin place?!”

“Yusuke calm down man,” Kuwabara said as grabbed hold of the detective's wrist. One more slam and he allowed the fox demon to fall to the ground before growling and turning away. Kuwabara looked at their fallen friend before shaking his head and turning back to his angered one. “Well it seems congratulations are in order Urameshi, she's one hell of a girl.”

“Thanks,” he growled out as he turned to glare at the others. “Anyone else have a problem with my choice?”

“You know, I can't believe you left Keiko for her,” Kurama murmured as he rose to his feet and brushed himself off. “I think she's the better choice.”

“Such a better choice that she tells me she can't risk her kids being part demon, that they'd be freaks and that she refused to deal with my demonic blood because it scared the hell out of her to think I'd outlive her?”

Everyone's eyes widened as they took in the information he just told them. Genkai's cigarette fell from her mouth as she took in the angered appearance of her pupil. Anger slowly began to rise in her as she thought about what her student had told her, what Keiko had done to him. Before anyone could say anything to that Shippo dropped into the middle of the training field. He took in the tense states of everyone present as well as the not so hidden mark that shown perfectly on Yusuke's chest before turning to said detective.

“I've been sent here to offer some help with your little Hideki problem,” he offered with a fanged smirk.

“You have information?” questioned Kurama as he turned to the demon.

“Hai, looks like fluffy was right, Hideki will strike during the tournament that decides the next general. Looks like he's pretty powerful too, doubt any of you could take him.”

Narrowed eyes glared at the kitsune as Hiei spoke, “are you informing us not to compete, or that you think you are stronger than us?”

“Neither, just stating a fact. You guys don't even feel as powerful as Naraku did at the end.”

“You faced Naraku?” asked an awed Kuwabara.

He nodded. “I wasn't much help as I was a child at the time, but I remember the distinct feeling of his power.” A shiver raced over him as he remembered that final battle.

“How was he defeated? Was it by Lord Sesshoumaru and his brother?” asked Kuwabara curiously. Even Kurama and Hiei had their full attention on the demon as they waited for a response.

Shippo shook his head at that as a sad smile touched his lips. “Sesshoumaru was stuck facing Hakudoshi, Kagura, and Moryomaru at the time. Magatsuhi was also there occasionally joining in during the battle. Inuyasha had raced off once again to save Kikyo whom was facing another two incarnations. In the end it took only one person to defeat him and claim the shikon no tama as their own, but the battle was long and bloody with loss on both sides.”

“If it wasn't either of the inu brothers, was it Lord Kouga?” questioned Kurama as he moved closer.

“It was a priestess,” he said simply. “She battled with him while trapped in his barrier and protecting me. She had learned much during our travels and was able to deflect many of his attacks and even wound him on occasion. It wasn't till the very end when she was tired and bleeding to death from multiple injuries that the battle was decided. In the very end she looked to all of her friends, none of them could see within the barrier, but we could see outside of it. Kouga had fallen, Inuyasha was barely standing, Kikyo was once again laid to rest, Sango and Miroku were nowhere to be seen, Kirara was staggering toward the barrier with blood pouring from many wounds, and Sesshoumaru was still fighting Magatsuhi and Kagura.

I watched the tears fall before she turned back to face our enemy. While she was looking at our friends he had aimed a tentacle at her and pierced her clean through the stomach and pulled her against him as he claimed his victory. None were left to face him, and he had just killed the last protector of the jewel. Blood dribbled from her mouth as she smiled up at him and told him that she refused to let him win. As I watched she pulled every last ounce of power from her body and forced it into his through her hands. He screamed loudly as a bright light flashed and I had to close my eyes. When I looked back she was lying in a pile of ashes, dying.

As I raced to her side I saw her smile as her lips moved before her eyes closed and she stopped breathing. The barrier shattered around us and after a few moments people raced to where I was crying and calling for her to come back. At first I didn't notice, but the jewel vanished just after her whispered words; she had made her wish and rid the world of the jewel forever.”

They all looked at him in surprise, shock, and different degrees of sadness as he finished his tale. It struck all of them that a mere human girl had happily given her life in order to defeat the threat. She didn't cower or run, she faced her demise and won the battle. After the story had time to settle it was Yukina that spoke, “didn't you say that Lord Kouga perished in that battle?”

“It seems that her wish is what revived him, as well as many others. And before anyone asks I have no idea what her wish was.”

“The wish didn't revive her?” asked the human male.

“No, in order for the wish to be pure and selfless she knowingly gave hers. It was a trade in her mind, her life for the happiness of others. It was the kind of person she was.”

“But I thought legend said she became the jewel, a named goddess.” The statement was made by Yukina as she looked questioningly at the fox demon.

“The wish did not bring her back, but the kami did,” he murmured in reply. “We had taken her body back to Kaede's village and were making plans for a burial when her body began to glow and her wounds healed. A moment later and she shot up gasping for breath with markings on her face and a tale of meeting Amaterasu and Tsukiyomi.”

“She became a celestial maiden?” questioned Koenma sounding startled.

“Hai,” he replied before looking away. “I need to leave now, I already told you more than I had originally planned.”

As he vanished Kurama was the first to speak, “perhaps this maiden will help fight the son of her old enemy.”

“Would she even still be alive?” asked Kuwabara as her looked around. “I mean she was human.”

“Was being the key word,” murmured Hiei. “A celestial maiden is an immortal.”

Yusuke was pondering something when he suddenly looked around at the others before finally seeming to decide on something. “Hey guys, I've gotta go, I need to go check on something.”

And then he too disappeared from the compound leaving the others to themselves and curious as to why he had left. Instead of taking the train he simply ran, covering many miles to make it back within the confines of the city. When he finally made it to his home it appeared that he materialized out of thin air before walking inside. Kagome met him at the door with a curious look as he grabbed her and pulled her to him in a rough kiss.

“I think that there were a few things that you left out of your story,” he told her about all of the things that he had learned from the kitsune that he had learned she called son. When he finished with the story he couldn't help but ask, “what did you wish for?”

“I wished for happiness for all those that were wronged by the interference, no matter the price that need be paid to bring it to fruition. I was prepared to give my life in order to see it done.”

“I can't believe that you died that day, I could've lost you and never knew it. Wait, aren't you supposed to have markings?”

“I have markings, I just don't have them visible all the time. And at that time I wasn't thinking about anything but saving the world so it became the world I knew here, in this time.”

“So the day you returned, why weren't you bothered by dying? How come you suddenly decided to move out of your family home?”

“Contrary to what you may think, I did not return that day,” she murmured softly as she looked down. “The well closed when I died and never reopened.”

“But then how…” he started to ask before realization dawned in his eyes. “You lived through the last five hundred years and only came home that day. Where did you stay?”

“I lived in the Makai with Sesshoumaru, I helped him several times over the centuries.”

“Are you planning on fighting Hideki when he appears?”

“It is my duty,” she said firmly as she looked into his eyes. “I must protect the lands as well as all that I love.”

“I won't stop you, but please be careful when you're fighting, for me?”

“Only if you'll promise the same,” she murmured softly as she leaned in to kiss him.
