Chapter XII

The last month had finally passed and the day of the tournament was finally upon them. Yusuke would be taking part in the tournament, and it seemed that his group of competitors would be one of the first to compete. Names had already been selected and arranged into groups, and there would be about twenty competitors left at the end of the first round. Slowly the groups would go down until only one remained, and that one would have to face at least three of the other generals and defeat them before being able to move on and be named a new general. It obviously wasn't often that new generals were named in the western army.

Kagome seated herself with Koenma's group in one of the upper levels of the field in order to watch the coming matches. Using a stadium was a break from tradition, but the whole point was to draw out the enemy and make him come to them. Her aura flared secretly around her as it began searching out the feeling that was Hideki's aura. Kuwabara sat with them as their `protection', even though Kagome knew that he would be of little help if it came to a battle with the demon.

Hours passed as three groups at a time battled to see who would go on to the next round. Yusuke, Hiei, and Kurama were among the number of contestants that would be moving on. Luckily for them none of Raizen's old friends showed up for this battle, and Yomi and Mukuro were busy with their own plots of land to rule over. Yusuke should have been, but he let Hokushin rule in his stead as he was a little young to be ruling part of demon world.

When the final twenty combatants were all chosen, they had a thirty minute break before moving onto the second round. Hiei faced Kurama in that round, and Hiei came out victorious, but barely. Kurama slowly made his way up to their seats and dropped gingerly into a chair as the matches continued. Kagome darted over and touched his chest with a glowing hand as the energy instantly transferred. Before anything could be said a white glow surrounded him and then disappeared to show all of his wounds were healed.

She smiled at him and shook her head to halt any questions before they came. “I have a feeling that we'll be seeing Hideki here and this way you can focus on restoring your energy instead of your body. Also, you're one of Yusuke's friends.”

The spirit fox allowed it to drop and turned his attention to the matches taking place. Yusuke easily defeated his opponent and moved onto the next round, and soon there were only ten combatants left. This time Hiei faced off against Yusuke and came out the loser of the two. Yusuke had gained power since the last time the two had fought and he had easily defeated the already tired fire demon. The rest of the matches passed quickly and then the next rounds were taking place. Yusuke defeated his next opponent and then had another opponent. The final match came and Yusuke once again stood victorious.

When Hiei had reached the seats he had received the same healing that Kurama had, as well as the same explanation. They all watched as Yusuke made it to the finals and now he was standing before the first general that he would have to face. This time the match took over an hour and a somewhat tired Yusuke came out the victor due to a lucky spirit gun. Another thirty minute break was granted before he had to face the next general. This time Yusuke realized that the demon he faced was more of a tactician than a fighter and slowly began outmaneuvering his opponent until he was also named the victor of that match.

Another general stepped up and Yusuke tiredly faced off against him as he dodged the first strike and gave a strike of his own in return. An energy blast just barely grazed his arm as he dodged that only to be hammered by a blow. After about twenty minutes of fighting Yusuke finally took a recognizable stance as he decided to use the spirit wave. That one attack managed to win him the battle and it was announced that he would be facing yet another general. This time there was an hour long break between fights as Yusuke made his way over to the others and accepted some food and drink.

When it was time for the next round Yusuke stood at the ready only to be surprised when Shippo walked out onto the field wearing the western colors and a smirk. This time the fight lasted only fifteen minutes and Shippo came out victorious as he lifted the mazoku onto his shoulder and helped him up to where Sesshoumaru was sitting with Rin, Inuyasha, Shiori, Kouga, Ayame, and the other rulers sitting near him. The demon king acknowledged his win and stood to his full height as he descended down to the fighting field. He stopped before his sister's lover and was only slightly surprised to see the mating mark that at one point had been hidden by his shirt. He made a mental note to talk to the two about it later.

“It had been many years since one has been seen as worthy enough to make it into the position as western general, and today we have a being that managed to defeat three generals and move onto a fourth. The last competitor who managed to defeat all four of the generals at the time and still have enough energy to spar against myself. That competitor was current general, Shippo. And here before all present I declare that Yusuke Urameshi is now a general of the western army.”

A round of cheers went up before a swarm of lower class demons all swarmed the attendees and a barrier rose up around the surrounding crowds. Shiori rose to her feet and rushed Rin and Ayame away from the main stands and into the barrier as Hideki himself appeared above the assembled. “So I heard a rumor that this party was arranged just to draw myself out to face all of you.”

The battle started at once as Sesshoumaru drew bakusaiga and Inuyasha drew tetsusaiga. Kouga used the goraishii claw and Shippo drew a blade that was soon covered in blue flames. Ayame wanted to help but she was heavily pregnant with yet another child. Kagome's own hand reached down to hover protectively over her stomach before clenching as she watched Hideki knock her kit away with a single blow. Kurama, Hiei, Kuwabara, and Genkai had all already been let out of the barrier to help with the fighting. And even though Yusuke was obviously dead tired he was also helping to fight against the mass of demons that were attacking the few warriors.

Kirara appeared beside Kagome and mewed in question as she cocked her head to the side. A small smile appeared on her lips as she rose to her feet and tugged Koenma and Yukina to their feet. “I want you two to go down to the edge of the barrier and begin healing people that come through the barrier wounded.”

“What are you going to do?” asked Koenma as he nodded his agreement to her plan.

“After I ready my weapons I'll be joining the battle,” she said with a hint of steel in her voice. “It's my duty to protect everyone, now go.”

She turned away from them and moved from the stands and to a secluded area where she changed into her priestess outfit and strapped her swords to her back in an x. A third sheath was strapped to her back and placed vertically, followed by her bow. Hiraikotsu was kept in her hand as it would be her main weapon of battle at first. Concealments dropped as markings like Midoriko's appeared on her forehead and her blue/gray eyes turned more of a silver color with gold and emerald flecks.

As she emerged onto the field many gasps were heard as she simply walked out of the barrier and into the fighting. She charged hiraikotsu with energy and threw the weapon into the lesser demons before climbing onto Kirara and catching it on the return while making her way to her fallen kit. When they finally reached him she dug him from the rubble and placed him onto the fire cat's back. With a nod Kagome threw her weapon and cleared the way for Kirara to get Shippo back into the barrier.

The fighting continued as Kagome focused on the hordes of demons until both Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru were taken down. The spirit detectives were now facing off against Hideki who was laughing at all of their efforts. Energy wrapped around the miko as she made her way to the side of her fallen brothers. Kouga was there a moment later, helping her get them onto Kirara's back to carry them to safety. Before Kouga knew what was going on, Kagome was entering the fray with the main threat. Fighting seemed to stop as the first hit was landed on Hideki as a slash seemed to materialize across his chest.

Everyone present was surprised by Kagome's appearance as she faced her greatest enemy's son. She was stunning even in her traditional miko garb, though hers were slightly different with silver haori and black hakama. Two of her swords were out as she looked upon her enemy. Hideki also drew a blade that became engulfed in miasma and what appeared to be black lightening. Everyone present could feel the power radiating off of both him and his blade.

“Ah yes, the lovely Kagome, the bird in the cage. What are you doing here?” asked Hideki as he smirked at her.

“You are attacking my lands, as such I am here to grant you death,” she murmured as she looked into his laughing eyes.

“Your lands? You must be delusional, these lands belong to Sesshoumaru.” He laughed as he said it, and even the spirit detectives minus Yusuke thought she might be crazy.

A glare that would make Sesshoumaru proud appeared on her face as she stood to her full height. “I am Kagome, Shikon no Megami, and alpha bitch of the western inu-youkai pack, as such I am the lady of these lands and you do not belong here.”

As she finished speaking she lunged at the demon that was behind the attack. He blocked and parried, barely being able to stop all of the hits before she backed off slightly and he felt a pulse. A barrier rose around him, but he was just a little too slow as he was still hit by part of her attack and blood began flowing freely from his arm. With a growl he pushed to attack and she was on the defensive, this time she came out with a few slashes. No one dared to interfere as none thought themselves able to keep up. Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru, and Shippo were already back on the field and taking care of the army of demons that was brought to the west.

All present were doing so while keeping an eye on the match between the self-proclaimed lady of the lands and the new demon menace. Powers clashed as they continued their battle until both were panting. Suddenly Hideki smirked and launched an attack of black lightening that Kagome had no way of dodging. The attack struck and she fell to her knees and coughed some blood up, though Hiei noticed the slight barrier that surrounded her stomach and his eyes widened as realization set in.

Kagome shakily rose to her feet as she looked at her opponent with a firm resolution as she sheathed her two swords before reaching for the third sword that was strapped to her back. Several eyes widened and even Sesshoumaru said `fuck' as he realized exactly what sword it was that she was about to draw. As the sword left its sheath it began pulsing with power and purple tendrils erupted before a solid white power flared and they receded back within the sword.

A dark energy surrounded the girl as she held the sword up above her before a few words fell from her lips that brought a shudder to the bodies of the two inu and the kit. “Dragon Twister.”

When the attack disappeared nothing was left of Hideki and Kagome had just barely sheathed her sword when she passed out from exhaustion. Hiei was the fastest and caught her before she hit the ground and then zipped her into the safety of the barrier before opening his jagan to both confirm and check on what he had already suspected. His suspicions proved true and everything was fine as he handed her off to his sister in order to heal the girl's wounds.

Kagome's eyes slowly opened and she looked around to find that she was in her room in the western palace. Shifting gently she made it to her feet and realized two things, the first being that she was still in her clothes from the battle and so needed a bath, and second that Sounga was still strapped on her back. With a soft smile she took the sword off and placed it back onto her bracelet. She took a quick bath and then made her way to where she could feel everybody. When she entered the room everyone looked at her with differing levels of respect and awe.

“How long was I out?”

“A day,” Sesshoumaru answered as he rose from his chair and made his way to her, enveloping her into his arms. “You scared this Sesshoumaru.”

“I'm alright aniki.”

“No, you're not,” said Yusuke as he stepped forward. “Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?!”

Shock was the prevalent reaction to those words as even her family members turned sharp glares onto her. A soft smile was her reply as she looked to all of them. “I had to fight, and you all would have been too overprotective to allow me there. I made sure the baby was protected the entire time, but how did you know?”

“Hiei noticed the barrier and told me he checked his suspicions with the jagan after you passed out.”

“How the hell did you get the Sounga?!” demanded Inuyasha as he glared at her. It had taken a lot of effort to get that sword into the underworld in the first place.

“It was a gift and it was well appreciated today when it was needed in order to end the battle.” She replied calmly as she smiled at all those assembled.

“And how the hell did you use the dragon twister?”

“You both shared your blood with me during the adoption ceremony,” she murmured in response before turning her eyes to Yusuke and smiling radiantly. “I'm ready to go home.”

“And where exactly is home?” he asked as he looked around.

A smirk adorned Sesshoumaru's face as he stepped forward, “here until at least after your training. And now it is time to talk about your mating with my imouto without my permission.”

“WHAT?!” demanded two other voices, the voices of Shippo and Inuyasha as Yusuke paled at the silent threat in the demon lord's voice and eyes.
