Chapter One
`What have I gotten myself into? Or maybe the better question would be what is he up to? I'm sure he isn't doing this because he's finally agreed with my requests. There just has to be another reason, he's thought that everyone should be married to their job like he is.' There had been several times during the past few centuries when Botan had asked for a vacation, always hoping that just perhaps one day Koenma would grant it and each time her hopes had been crushed. The excuse had always been there were too many jobs to do, too many souls to ferry or too many cases to take care of. So it had come as a great surprise to the deity when exactly one month ago Koenma had called her into his office, asking her if she'd enjoy some 'time off'. So foolishly she'd jumped at the chance without asking just what prompted such a generous act and now Botan was having serious doubts that she'd be able to do this. Of course it was no real vacation, some things it seemed would never change and this was definitely one of those times. Instead it was a case that needed attending to and not for the first time the ferry woman was bemoaning the fact that she'd been chosen. Not only that but she had to work with him, the most temperamental of all of the former Reikai Tantei. `How did Koenma manage to convince me or Hiei for that matter to go along with this madness anyway? This is insane!'
`I guess it really doesn't matter or another.' The annoying thought was running through her mind as she concentrated on steering her oar towards the apartment complex where the apparition and her boss was waiting. `I hope Kurama will already be there as well and Kagome should be arriving shortly.' The knowledge had her breathing a small sigh of relief as the building came into view. At least there would be a couple of friendly faces there even though they couldn't let on just how well they knew each other. Undercover operations had never been her sort of thing but Botan knew that there was no other choice. Shizuru was far too hot tempered to go into this sort of situation and Yusuke had already killed the suggestion of Keiko stepping into this particular pit of vipers. That had left her as the only suitable choice but again Botan had to question Koenma's sanity in pairing her up with Hiei. The demigod had said it was precisely because of that very reason that he'd chosen Hiei for her. Had this been a real capture the hybrid would loath the person who had bought him, it just wouldn't look right if someone he actually got along with was with him. A streak of blue caught her attention down below and it caused the deity to stare in concern. `The driver of that cab is an absolute lunatic; whoever that passenger is will be lucky to arrive at their destination in one piece.' As tempting as it was to follow the vehicle to ensure they arrived safely, Botan just didn't have the time. Casting a prayer for their safe arrival, Botan encouraged the oar to go faster so she could get this job over with.
`Great, someone's got him worked up already, as if I didn't already have enough to worry about.' Botan sighed as the distinct feel of Koenma's energy could be felt from even this distance away along with the agitation resonating from deep within him. Truthfully she didn't blame him though, what the man was asking of all four of them was nothing short of risking their own lives to bring this slaving ring down. If any of them were found they'd have to get out of there quickly, there would be no second chances should something go wrong. Dropping down out of the sky at a tremendous speed, Botan stopped just short of the doorway, dropping off of the oar easily. Taking a quick look around to make sure that no one was looking, she allowed herself to materialize while banishing her oar for the time being and then knocked on the door twice before opening it. The sight that greeted her was far from reassuring, the two demons not looking any happier than what she did. "Is everything ready?"
Koenma nodded slightly and gestured for her to take a seat on the couch, his eyes never leaving her as she did so. "It is but we'll wait to go over the final details until Kagome arrives. I don't want to have to do this twice so make sure you pay attention." Despite his earlier talk to Hiei, the apparition remained where he was, scowling as he leaned against the far wall. Sooner or later the man would have to accept the fact that he had a roll to play and the sooner he did so the better off he'd be. At this very moment he didn't envy Botan in the least, Hiei was going to be more than a handful posing as her slave.
"All right." The next few minutes were passed in silence as they waited for the miko to arrive and Botan took the opportunity to look over Hiei carefully. While his expression was one of complete indifference, the irritation was there in his eyes for anyone to see who knew what to look for. `How many months has it been since I've last seen him before this case came up? They all seem to blend together anymore.' It wouldn't surprise her if it'd been over a year prior to Koenma approaching them for this mission. His hair was a bit longer but still untamed, flaring up and showing his fire demon heritage. The main change in him though was his attire. While it was still black, the trademark cloak he'd always worn was missing. Instead he now wore a black leather vest which left his arms bared to her view, showing off his muscular physique. While Botan would have never pictured him wearing such a thing she knew that it would do what it was meant to, encourage people to place their money on him when the fights commenced. Fervently the ferry woman hoped that there wouldn't be too many of them to have to sit through. The trials were only a weekend long but they were sponsored frequently on Hangneck Island, deep beneath the classy hotel that had been run by the infamous Black Black Club. Now with Sakyo dead, his youngest brother had risen to power and taken his place in the rankings. `With any luck we'll only have to participate in the first day and then we will able to get out of there, but I doubt it somehow. It never seems to work out that way for me.' Unfortunately Botan knew it was just as likely pigs would fly and so she prepared
herself for the stress of remaining there throughout both days.
She tensed as a knock sounded on the door breaking her out of her reverie, there was absolutely no turning back now and they all knew it. The door was slowly opened to reveal the priestess who looked rather sheepish at showing up a few minutes late. It wasn't as if it'd made any difference though, personally she'd been glad for the extra couple of minutes to try and prepare herself for what she was about to do. Now seeing that the final member of the team had arrived, Koenma stood from his chair and went to the table to pick up two rather plain looking collars. The black leather was nothing out of the ordinary, however the small control panel on the outside of it proved that it was so much more than a fashion accessory. Wordlessly he walked over to Hiei first and handed the device to him. "Go ahead and put this on. We don't have much time so lets avoid drawing this out any longer than we have to. The sooner you all leave the sooner you can come back." The look the apparition had on his face was one of murder but thankfully Hiei did as he was told, snapping the collar around his neck with a grimace of distaste. Kurama was next, the avatar taking the thin leather strip without protest and snapping it into place with a minimum of difficulty despite his long hair.
`I probably should have warned him to be expecting something.' Collective gasps filled the room as a brilliant white light flared around the avatar, though Koenma had known this would most likely happen. In fact he'd been counting on it, just making sure the spell
would hold had been a serious concern. `But still, he's going to blame me for not warning him. He won't understand why I didn't.' Of course if he'd done just that the kitsune would have strenuously objected and it was a risk Koenma just hadn't been willing to take. When the light died down no longer was Kurama in his human form, his energy having transformed his body to that of Youko Kurama's. Irritation briefly flashed through his golden eyes but Koenma held up a hand to silence any complaints that would come from the demon. "Don't look at me like that, it's for your own good."
"You knew of my vow to leave this part of my life behind, explain to me how this is for my own good Prince Koenma!" Kurama's voice was low, the words accompanied by a throaty growl, infuriated that the demigod would take such liberties without having the decency to consult him first. “You test my patience. Perhaps I should test your theory of immortality.” Something more troubling however was that the collars were meant to suppress youki completely, allowing the demon's to be controlled by the human's who had purchased them. “How are these collars able to maintain this form with my ki rendered untouchable?” He glared at the demigod, the threat obvious in his voice. “It is not too late to change my mind about going.”
"You want a blunt answer Kurama? Fine, in your human form you are significantly less powerful than when in this form. If you were to go in as a human there is a good chance you'd be eliminated before you even had a chance to complete the mission. This is a lucrative crime business and you'd all be wise to remember this. They aren't playing with weak C or even B class demons." As much as he hated to poke a hole in Kurama's pride Koenma knew that it had to be done in order for this to be successful. A quick glance over to the miko had him raising an eyebrow; the girl was staring at the kitsune's ears as if in a daze although as of yet she had yet to move from the couch in an attempt to molest him. Given her prior relationship with the Inu Hanyou, it was of no surprise to him that Kurama's alternate form would come as a shock to her. Clearing his throat he regained the girl's attention and continued. "We've briefly gone over the behavior that is to be expected and although none of you are happy about it I expect you'll be able to
play the parts."
At this Botan eyed her boss warily. “All you've told me is to become friendly with the women I come across and try to fit in. That isn't very much for me to go on, I get the feeling that there's definitely more involved here then that. What more can you tell me about my part Koenma? What exactly do you want me to do?” That she felt like she was in the dark was an understatement, the lack of detail had warning bells going off in her head and had made her leery, especially considering he'd gone on into great detail with Kagome on just how she was supposed to act: like she came from a wealthy family, never wanting for anything.
Seeing the looks he was being given, Koenma turned to Hiei in an attempt to avoid the questions lurking in Botan's eyes. The girl would do as she'd been told but it was for the best if she didn't realize just what role she was expected to play until after he'd left. "I expect that Kurama and Kagome will have no problems with their roles but you on the other hand.... Try and control your temper, they're not going to expect you and Botan to be fawning over each other but you must remain halfway civil." When the apparition's eyes narrowed dangerously at him, Koenma went back to the table and retrieved the
remotes to the collars. Handing each girl one Koenma fixed them with a serious look."These remotes control the collars, the code I gave you last week is what you'll use to deactivate them. Now, I seriously doubt you'll have a need to use the other feature of these collars but I'll let you know about it just in case." With that he fixed Hiei with a look that clearly said 'this is meant towards you' before continuing. "As you well know most demons are considerably stronger in most instances, even without access to their youki. This button here activates an electrical current, strong enough to render the slaves
unconscious. Most youkai test their limits once and quickly realize that attempting to escape is useless. As I said, you shouldn't need to use it but it would look strange if you weren't to know the collar's full capabilities."
“Son of a bitch!” Hiei was swearing under his breath hearing this little revelation and looked at the woman sitting on the couch. `Would Botan attempt to use it in retaliation for all the times I've threatened her?' He wasn't entirely sure and his gaze traveled over her face seeing the shock and dismay at being given such a thing. In fact she looked as if she were ready to throw the remote across the room just to be rid of the cursed thing. The sight was only slightly reassuring; anything that powerful had no business coming anywhere near him. Kurama didn't look any happier with the news although he said nothing. Only the rate in which his tails were twitching showed how increasingly agitated the kitsune was becoming.
"Now, I've received a schedule for this months events and it's simple really. Within the hour you will depart in separate vehicles, arriving at the pickup point for transportation to the Island. Kagome, you and Kurama will have your own helicopter to travel in. Botan, you and Hiei will be traveling with three other owners along with their slaves. Once you arrive at the hotel it is expected that you will check in immediately." On the coffee table in front of him was a small briefcase, which Koenma opened quickly, handing each woman a manila envelope. It had taken him and his inside man months to plan this out,
hacking into the system to falsify information, transferring funds to appear to purchase the two demons in the room with him. The rest of the contents had been fairly simple after that. "Inside you will find the proper identification that proves you own these two as well as the invitation's necessary to attend this months function. The fights start promptly at nine am, be ready. The collars are to remain active at all times except when you step into the ring to fight. Once inside the rules are simple, the one still breathing at the end of the match is declared the winner. Healers are on site for once the day's events have concluded."
A smirk crossed Hiei's face then. `At least if I have to be subjected to this whole plan there will be something to keep me amused until they find the man behind it all. There really isn't anyone strong enough to stand up against me, especially after all the training I've gone through with Mukuro except possibly Yusuke and I won't be fighting against him anyway.' He nodded his head slightly. "Sounds simple enough. We go in, kill anyone who gets in our way and find the fool who started this thing. Is there anything else we should know before we go?" Dismissing the uncertain look that Botan was now giving him, Hiei chose to concentrate on Koenma instead. Of course the woman would be nervous but she should have realized long ago that he wasn't about to allow anyone the pleasure of killing him.
"I suppose it would sound simple to you, at least that part of it." Koenma nearly smiled at the demon's attitude, he hadn't heard the best part yet. Somehow the demigod doubted that the man had ever gotten a lesson in proper manners when it came to formal affairs, Botan was sure to have her hands full. "After the fights conclude and you are healed of any injuries you sustain, it is expected that Botan and Kagome will attend the dinners that occur each evening. It is expected as well that the both of you will accompany them; this is an opportunity for other owners to size up the competition as well as the spectators. This is where the biggest impressions are made. The owner of the winner of the final fight receives a large sum of money as a prize. I shouldn't have to tell you that a portion of the bets placed is included in that amount. So do what you have to do in order to blend in. If you're just going to sit on your ass and brood people are going to get suspicious." Seeing that he wasn't going to receive any further complaints Koenma looked at the clock, knowing he had very little time to wrap this up. This part was probably going to be the most hazardous to his health, with the exception of Botan's reaction when she looked into her suitcase. Yes, it was best if he left quickly. "The final thing is this, since demons are considered a prime commodity they are to remain with you at all times. Which means you will both be sharing a room. I don't care how you arrange it, who gets the bed or the floor just don't cause a scene over it. Botan, Kagome, your suit cases are in that bedroom. You'll both need to change before you leave so I suggest you hurry. Your ride to the airport will be here in fifteen minutes."
Botan and Kagome exchanged startled looks as Koenma hurried through the door and out of the apartment, as if he were waiting for the explosion. Botan shook her head. “It couldn't be that bad right? Sure Hiei is antisocial as all hell but we'll be able to work out sleeping arrangements. It isn't like I need to worry about him trying to molest me in the middle of the night. Hell, Hiei would probably cut his own hands off before even thinking about such a thing.” She shook her head again, nothing was adding up as of yet. "Well.. Maybe we should go ahead and get ready then, we'll worry about the rest of this when we get there right?"
Receiving a dubious look from the priestess Botan pushed herself up and off of the couch so she could go ahead and get changed. Kagome followed her quickly, shutting the bedroom door behind them so they could have some privacy. There were two large suitcases which were laid out on the bed although there were no name tags to tell just which one was hers. “Which one is mine?” Of course it was Kagome who voiced the question, wondering which one belonged to her and what exactly it contained. But
Koenma had disappeared, the only way to find out was going to be to open them.
Hesitantly the deity reached towards the one closest to her and unzipped it, flipping the top back. An array of business suits lay innocently before her, making Botan push the suitcase towards her companion. "This one is yours I believe." As Kagome began looking
through the clothing she'd been supplied with Botan took a deep breath, it was now or never. 'Koenma wouldn't make me dress in something horrible would he? Of course he wouldn't! I'm his best ferry girl, I'm just being silly!' With that thought in mind Botan hurriedly opened up the remaining suitcase and stilled, her eyes not quite believing what she was seeing. With a trembling hand she reached out and picked up the first garment that lay on the top. It was nothing more than a blue mesh top, which was completely see through. "You've got to be kidding me!" Botan shrieked, ready to kill the demigod when she got her hands on him. "I can't wear this! What will people think!" Hastily she tossed the top on the bed, there had to be some sort of mistake. Maybe it had gotten in there by accident!
Kagome wasn't shocked to see the pressed suits perfectly arranged in the case. Two small duffel bags were waiting for them in the corner as well. She could only imagine it was their personal belongings. Her fingers ran over the soft but expensive material, recognizing the feel of hand spun silk. Other garments she was sure were made from
ultrasuede. There was a designer's name tag on the inside of the clothing but she didn't recognize it. `That really shouldn't be any great surprise there I suppose.' It was the ferry girl's outraged shriek that made her glance over in alarm, wondering what could have
happened so soon to earn that reaction.. Blood rushed to her cheeks seeing the skimpy clothing being fingered like it carried a disease. “Um, I don't know. I guess I'm the school principal and you are the cheerleader that's over friendly with the football team?”
When her attempt at humor failed Kagome saw just how distressed the other girl was becoming. `I don't blame her, I don't think I'd be able to go around dressed in those clothes either. Men, are they always such perverts that all they want to see is our boobs or butts?' But Koenma had assigned her that suitcase and must have had something in mind when doing so. “Sorry, look I'm sure Koenma decided that it would look kind of strange both of us traveling in the same circles since some there might now that Hiei and Kurama are friends. He probably just wanted us to have different roles. I've got the part of the rich businesswoman born with a silver spoon. You, well let's just say there are ladies out there that are financially secure without having to use their minds to get there.”
"Oh gee thanks Kagome, this is just what I always wanted to be before I became a ferry girl!" Botan really didn't mean to be sarcastic but it hurt, she didn't want to accept what was staring her in the face. She was not going to play the role of a prostitute if she could possibly help it. She'd never be able to face any of her friends again, not to mention the sheer amount of hell Hiei would put her through when he saw what she was wearing. `No, there is no way in hell I'm wear something like that.' That particular shirt could stay behind for all she cared, the rest of it too if it was as bad as the one garment. As she reached for the next article her fingers skimmed over soft leather. `Maybe this would make up for it.' Tugging the skirt out she held it up to herself, a blush covering her face. The hemline was a good eight inches above her knees, showing off most of her thighs and it looked to be fairly tight. Garment after garment was removed and they were all of the same variety, though some were worse than others. Within two minutes time there were two piles on the bed. The pile that she'd burn atop Koenma's desk when they were finished and the pile that she'd force herself to wear while on the island.
~*~
“Why the hell am I putting up with this?” At the moment the exact reasoning continued to escape him and had it been within his power Hiei would have vanished without a second thought. Unfortunately one very important thing had been left out of the explanation when Koenma had been briefing them, something that was going to get that same demigod killed when this was over. It was bad enough that rumors of his capture had been spread throughout the Makai and it was even worse that he was supposed to have been bought by the provocatively dressed woman now standing beside him but the absolute last straw was the fine golden chain that had been attached to his collar. Now he was being led around like some trained lap dog and his mood was far from amused if his
expression was anything to go by.
"Stop looking like you're going to kill everyone here!" Botan snapped at the apparition when his glare settled on her yet again. It wasn't as if she were the one to put him in this position. At the moment the deity really couldn't decide who'd gotten the worse end of the deal while they stood there waiting for the helicopter to arrive. Already the people standing nearby were ogling her like some piece of meat and one man had gone so far as to grope her ass. `Of course being the pain in the ass that he is Hiei's going to stand by and watch it happening, as if he really couldn't care that some lecher was pawing at me!' It'd taken every ounce of her willpower not to deck the man, knowing that her cover would be blown. Instead she had to smile and act coy as if she were enjoying it.
Hiei's expression never changed even as he moved in closer to her so no one would overhear what he had to say. They hadn't been here for even ten minutes and she was already bitching at him. It certainly didn't help his foul mood, nor did what she'd chosen to wear. While the outfit was very pleasing to the eye it played hell on his nerves to watch her acting so flirtatious with the other men. Keeping his voice barely above a whisper he spoke to her, making her eyes widen. "Make no mistake you foolish woman once this is over everyone who is here is going to die and no one from the Reikai is going to stop me because Koenma is the first one who will fall." His aggressive posture didn't change as yet another male came up to speak with her, making no attempt to hide the way he was eying the short skirt she was wearing. Hiei narrowed his eyes at the man in an attempt to intimidate him without getting involved. `Did Koenma even realize what he'd been setting the girl up for?' Hiei knew how likely it was that he'd have to kill at least one person before this mission was over because it was inevitable that someone would attempt to take advantage of the girl. Unless Botan intended on going along with it to keep their cover intact, which wasn't likely, it'd be up to him to keep the foolish woman safe.
Unfortunately for the demigod, Botan's thoughts were running along the same lines and even though the man had to have had his reasons for doing this to her, Botan wasn't in a very forgiving mood at the moment. Whatever scathing retort she had for the apparition had to be put on hold as she turned her attention to the company who had just walked up. A tall woman with dark brown hair was smiling at her although there was a speculative gleam in her eyes as her gaze turned towards Hiei, which had Botan stiffening. Perhaps it was just sizing up the competition but based on the way the woman was twirling a lock of hair around her finger while looking at him Botan really didn't think that was it. Smiling politely she moved closer to Hiei, gaining the woman's attention. "May I help you?"
"Oh! I'm sorry; I was just admiring your slave. I must say he is a fine specimen and must have been extremely difficult to acquire." Bowing politely, the woman proceeded to introduce herself to the apparition's owner. "Morita, Emi.. And this is Taikai. Is this your first competition?" Based on the look the small apparition was giving her it was most likely that it was. Usually after so many months of being kept captive the demons became resigned to their fate, assuming they lived that long to begin with. Most demons died quickly as per the rules of the game but the potential money to be made was well worth the investment of buying them in the first place.
Remembering the last name that Koenma had given her on the ownership slip for Hiei, Botan returned the bow and smiled although she felt anything but friendly towards the woman. "Hatori Botan and this is Hiei. Yes, I'm afraid this is our first competition but I'm sure we'll do well." A slight eyebrow was raised at that remark but Botan didn't elaborate any further. Hiei's reputation was quite widespread and it looked as if Taikai knew exactly who he was, not that he was happy about it. More than likely he'd be filling Emi in later on just how dangerous the apparition was. That of course was of no concern to her; Botan knew that few people would recognize her even if they knew who Hiei was. Perhaps it would work in their favor helping to intimidate some of the demons that Hiei would be fighting against later.
Slowly Emi circled around the smaller demon, appraising his appearance. The outfit he was wearing displayed his physic quite nicely although appearance didn't necessarily mean much as she'd come to learn over the months. Her eyes lingered over the bandage over his arm and she just had to ask why it was there. "Is he injured?" She made a move to touch the bandage but a low growl stopped her from doing so. The gaze Hiei was giving her was enough to give her pause, her hand hovering inches over his right arm before pulling away.
"Oh no, think of it as... a precaution." It was an enigmatic statement but Botan didn't want to reveal too much about him either. Those that didn't know who he was or what Hiei was capable of would likely underestimate him, thinking that he was indeed wounded. Thankfully though the sound of a helicopter approaching broke off all further conversation much to her relief. If the woman were to have touched the apparition no doubt he'd have put a stop to it immediately which would have forced her to take appropriate action. Using the collar against the hybrid was the last thing she wanted to do. "Looks like our ride is here!"
It was nearly a relief to Hiei when they began walking towards the helicopter, the loud noise and the strong gusts of wind making conversation impossible. To his surprise Botan waited until everyone else had boarded before leading him onto the aircraft, leaving him to wonder if it was because she knew he loathed being cramped in among masses of people or because she wanted to be the first one off the god forsaken contraption. To his irritation though there were only enough seats for the four 'owners' leaving him and the other three demons to sit on the floor at their feet. Taikai stared at him long and hard before laying his head against Emi's thigh, allowing the woman to run her fingers through his long black hair. The very sight made Hiei want to gag, how could any self-respecting demon lower himself to accepting that sort of touch from the person who kept them enslaved?
A slight tug on his collar reminded Hiei that he was supposed to be playing a specific part but allowing himself to be petted like some overgrown cat went beyond what he was required to do. Wordlessly he turned to Botan, his eyes telling her that if she expected the same sort of treatment out of him she'd be sadly mistaken. A soft chuckle from Emi was heard but he ignored it, choosing to stare at the ferry girl instead. His eyes widened when she leaned forward in her seat to whisper in his ear, giving him a decent view down the halter-top she had put on before they'd left. Swallowing hard he wrenched his gaze off of her chest and turned away from her once more. `Damn Koenma for putting me in this position, damn him to the lowest pits of hell!'
"We won't be on the helicopter long Hiei, try to relax alright?" It was the best that she could do to tell Hiei to get with the program considering the close quarters but Botan did what she could. A frown touched her lips, as she looked the man over, his posture even more tense than it had been a few minutes ago. One arm was propped on one of his knees, his fist clenched tightly. Blood dripped from the palm of his hand where his claws had pierced the skin but to look at his face you'd never know that he'd just sliced himself open. Instead there was a cold, dark look there, which would frighten her under most
circumstances. What the hell was going on in his head?
The concern that the young woman was showing for her demon was touching in Emi's opinion but entirely misplaced. Sooner or later Botan would have to come to realize you couldn't get attached to your slaves, they died all too quickly. Still, they were fun to have around while they lasted and unless she missed her guess it wouldn't be long until she found out just how true that was. It would seem that Hiei was enjoying the show that Botan had inadvertently given him, then again, most males would. "You'll definitely have your hands full with this one Botan, you'll have to tell me how he is later."
"Oh? Oh! Of course.." Botan was hard pressed not to blush at the insinuation once she realized exactly what it was that Emi was referring to. Even Hiei's eyes had widened when she agreed, his head turning ever so slightly in disbelief. Of course it would never happen, Hiei would never consider doing such a thing with her but Emi didn't need to know that much. Questions would be raised if she were to say such a thing though it left Botan to wonder just what the demons were used for besides fighting. How many of them became pleasure slaves in addition to participating in the bloodsport that was about to commence?
"I look forward to it then." Emi continued to stroke Taikai's hair while watching the two of them carefully. As Botan turned to stare out the helicopter window her gaze strayed down to the apparition at her feet. The blue haired woman didn't seem to care much one way or another about the prospect of bedding such a fine specimen but then again she probably had her fill of lovers. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out just what line of work the girl was in, though if Emi had to lay money on it she would lean more towards the girl being a call girl than just a prostitute off the street. The type of cash outlay required to purchase a top of the line demon slave wasn't the kind you could get standing on street corners every night.
The rest of the trip was continued in relative silence, no one bothering Botan any further with questions for which she was thankful. Occasionally Hiei would shift in an effort to get more comfortable, brushing up against her bared legs but she didn't give it much though. Right now she just wanted off of the damned helicopter so she could get into their hotel room. Unless things had drastically changed since she'd last stayed there during the Dark Tournament, they'd have robes supplied in the bathroom. At least then she could feel somewhat covered and be away from prying eyes. Already she could see the distinctive shape of the island in the distance and they were approaching it quickly, although from here the ferry girl couldn't see whether or not they'd cleared the debris of the stadium or not. From the report she'd been given the fighting they were to participate in was held in the lower levels of the hotel itself.
While the ferry girl was staring at the passing scenery Hiei was making some observations of his own, his expression giving away nothing to those watching them however. The foolish woman likely had no idea what she'd just set the both of them up for. Had she merely kept her mouth shut the most they would have drawn were some curious looks when it became apparent they weren't bedding each other. However she'd just proclaimed that she intended to do exactly that and even if they lied and said they were, the demons surrounding them would know otherwise. Sooner or later one of them would make mention of it and questions would be raised. As he watched her, it brought up a question of his own. `Could I go through with bedding her if it came down to it?'
The prospect wasn't exactly distasteful although Hiei despised even the thought of admitting he was capable of becoming aroused by the girl. The point that he could have been had been forcefully driven home only minutes before and it pissed him off. The girl was a complete and total idiot in his opinion, causing more problems then she solved on most occasions. The complete opposite of what he found attractive in a females personality but there was no denying the physical attraction she possessed. Would that be enough to allow him to go through with anything they needed to do? His body was answering that with a resounding yes despite his mind's protest to the contrary. And so help him if she uncrossed her legs once more giving him a view up her skirt before recrossing them he'd be tempted to take her right there in the helicopter!
"We're here." Both relief and apprehension coursed through her body as Botan stared over the island. The stadium still remained, piles of rubble slowly being overtaken by the surrounding vegetation. So many memories were centered around the wreckage, none of them good ones either. This place was one of the last spots the ferry girl had any desire to ever have visited again. Nearby stood the hotel, looking luxurious as ever although there weren't as many people wandering the grounds outside as there had been a few years ago. Quickly they descended, both of them waiting tensely for the door to be opened so they could escape the close confines that trapped them in. An attendant rushed forward as they landed, hauling the door open and allowing fresh air to flood into the compartment. Without waiting for him to give her a hand out of the aircraft, Botan stepped out with Hiei following closely behind her. The small carry on bag was slung over her shoulder easily as they began walking towards the hotel. Most likely both Kagome and Kurama had already checked in as well although there was no way for them to inquire about the two without raising suspicions. Most likely they wouldn't see either one of them until dinner commenced and even then it wasn't likely they'd be able to converse much.
Since they were the first off of the aircraft Botan and Hiei made it to the check in desk before any of the others. The ferry girl pulled a slip of paper out of her bag and handed it to the desk clerk, smiling sweetly at him while Hiei continued to glare at everyone who came within twenty feet of them both. `Koenma said he'd taken care of all the reservations but it would be just my luck that something would come up.' Carefully she watched the man for any hint of something being amiss as he went to the computer and began pulling up the room information. When he requested her identification she fished it out of her wallet and slid it across the counter along with the credit card she'd been provided. The sound of a printer turning on filled the air as the clerk processed their room. After a few minutes she was presented with a key for the door as well as a receipt to sign. Only once that was done did she get her stuff back, which was hastily put, in her wallet. "Okay we have room 316 Hiei, let's go find it. I'm beat."
Being leashed, as he was it left Hiei little choice except to follow the woman as she led him to the elevator. Stepping inside the detestable sound of the hotel's music floated through the air making him long to tear out the speaker system. Fortunately they weren't in it for long though and soon enough were walking down the hallway. It wasn't difficult to find their room, the door unlocking easily. Once it had shut behind them Botan was breathing a sigh of relief, thoughts of stretching out on the bed on her mind. A nervous giggle escaped her at Hiei's look of agitation, how easily she forgot that he'd been following behind her. Quickly she unsnapped the leash from his collar since he was unable to do so, allowing him the freedom to roam the room. "While we are in here I don't see the need to keep you chained up but you'd better not go anywhere! Like Ko---"
Hiei stopped any further words from coming out of her mouth with his hand and stepped closer to her. Shock was etched on her face but he ignored it, leaning closer in until his lips brushed her ear. His voice was low and husky as he breathed against her. "Do not say that name, since this is an underground operation we must expect that they'll be watching for someone to infiltrate their ring." Knowing that if someone where listening in through a bug in the room, he nuzzled her neck and nipped the skin sharply as he pulled his hand away, allowing her to gasp. Raising his voice slightly so it could be heard, he taunted her with something they'd be expecting. "You like that don't you?"
"Hiei.." Even her own voice sounded foreign to her as the apparition continued to stand so close to her. Her mind fogged over as he continued to tease her neck and it was difficult to remember even what it was that he was saying only moments before. As he stepped back his eyes narrowed at her, bringing her back to herself. Damn, why did he
have to make things so difficult all of a sudden? Still he had a point, she couldn't just leave it all up to him either. "Yes but...." Botan moaned for affect causing him to quirk an eyebrow in amusement. "We can't.. not yet. There's, there's not enough time right now."
"And why not?" Keeping in his role, Hiei pushed her back onto the bed gaining an indignant look from the girl as the bed squeaked beneath her. He quickly followed suit, climbing onto the bed next to her but ignoring the thought of pinning her to the bed. Instead he pitched the mint which had been laid so carefully on the pillow over to the table and then rolled over, resting his head upon the pillow and looked at Botan as the woman turned over onto her side to stare at him. By now he was thoroughly enjoying the prospect of flustering her so greatly, sooner or later she'd have to realize that they were going to have to engage in some form of intimacy before this weekend was over. "Dinner can wait, I have something else in mind for the night."
"Dinner is a mandatory event Hiei, don't presume to tell me what we will or will not do. Need I remind you of just what your place is and what we are here for?" Botan's voice was sharp, leaving no room for arguments even though there was no hint of anger in her eyes. Instead there was slight disbelief that Hiei would carry his role to such an extreme, there was no possible way he could be serious. Was there? Her tone struck a nerve though and all traces of amusement in the apparition's face disappeared in an instant. Clearly he didn't like being reminded that for the next three days he was nothing more than a possession belonging and answering to her.
Sitting up Hiei fixed her with a glare that would have frozen the blood of the most hardened of warriors, his anger growing by the second. "And you'd be doing well to remember that if it wasn't for this damned collar I could snap your neck like a piece of kindling." Roughly he got off the bed, trying to ignore the way that her chest was heaving beneath the tight bodice and the way her skirt had inched even further up her legs. Instead he went to the window and stared outside, wishing that he could venture outside unattended at least for a little while.
"And that Hiei is precisely the reason why the collar will not come off." Even though Hiei had just threatened her Botan knew that he would never actually go so far as to harm her. The apparition had passed up too many opportunities in the past to start considering it now. Still, it seemed like whatever progress she'd made in an effort to make this mission with him tolerable had just been destroyed with one tiny comment. Even if they had their little parts to play, she wanted the tension between them to disappear. Once this was over it was likely to be another year or more before she saw the hybrid again, this wasn't exactly how she'd wanted to spend their time together.
A wall of tension had sprung up between them now and Botan felt helpless to breach it. Now Hiei wouldn't even bother to look at her and the silence was becoming unbearable. Slowly she shifted on the bed to look at him, wanting to take back the words she had said but knowing that she couldn't. Eventually he seemed to relax ever so slightly, though the ferry girl knew that it wouldn't take much to set him on edge once more. Briefly she considered approaching him, trying to convey that she hadn't meant what she said without words but would he even accept such an apology? Somehow she doubted that he would. Still, it was tempting to try if it would smooth things over between them. Carefully she began making her way towards him, drawing his attention from the scenery outside but a knock at the door stopped her before she'd even gotten halfway across the room.
Hiei watched as the deity had begun to approach him, wondering just what the woman was thinking. Whatever it was he realized that he was going to have to wait until later to find out, for she was already heading towards the door to open it. To his displeasure Emi was on the other side, though strangely enough Taikai was missing. Had he remained behind in the woman's room? It was quite possible, each of the rooms were equipped with a chain much like the one he'd been led here on. Once secured in place the demon would be helpless to remove it and he'd be forced to remain there until the woman came back and freed him. It was a precautionary measure meant to keep the owners safe from a physical attack by their slaves as they slept.
Emi smiled as the door was opened, revealing a very disheveled Botan standing inside the doorway. The side of her neck was red, the slight imprint of fangs left behind from the apparition sitting at the window. "My my, it looks like I came at a bad time. Then again, maybe not. May I come in?" Since they'd gotten off of the helicopter her curiosity had grown about the apparition. Fortunately for her, all the demons registered to compete were located in the hotel computer and all patrons were given access to it if they so wished. Listed were the known abilities of each demon, as well as what class they were. It had come as a bit of a surprise to the woman to learn that the small demon was considered an S-class apparition. Even more intriguing was the fact that among his many talents, he'd been listed as a pleasure slave much to her delight. No wonder Botan had chosen him in particular.
"Sure, come on in." Botan stepped aside as the tall woman made her way into the room, shutting the door before trailing after her. Though she had no idea just why Emi was here and without Taikai, somehow she just knew that she was about to find out. The way she was sizing Hiei up was rather unnerving, causing Botan to move over by his side. "Is there something that you needed?" The question was said in a light tone causing her visitor to chuckle slightly.
"I'll get right to the point then, I've done a bit of checking up on your demon." Emi allowed her gaze to roam over the apparition, seeing him tense as if ready to spring although she wasn't quite sure just why. Taking a seat on the bed she plucked at the comforter slowly, not noticing the nervous glance that Botan gave to the demon beside her. "Imagine my surprise when I learned that he's been tested and proven as a pleasure slave. I never would have guessed that with the way the two of you act together. Of course that could be because you just bought him, but that is neither here nor there. I've come to see if you might be interested in a proposal. Taikai is very well trained in the bedroom as well although occasionally I find myself needing someone... more forceful." Already she was picturing just how Hiei would be between the sheets and knew that she wouldn't be disappointed with him.

The news of what Hiei had been sold as came as a surprise to the both of them but what was more stunning was the woman standing before them talking about jumping Hiei without a second thought. Botan wasn't quite sure what to think of her but knew that if Emi were to attempt touching Hiei without his consent the woman would find her head removed from her shoulders. "So you're asking if you can have a night with him then?" Botan pretended to consider the idea much to the apparition's consternation before she loosely draped her arms around his shoulder, her fingers sliding along the bared skin of his upper arms. Fixing Emi with a mischievous grin she shook her head. "I'm sorry but.." Botan sighed dramatically before sliding in behind him on the bench seat, molding her chest against his back like would be expected from someone of her profession. "I don't think I could go without him for an evening. He's very demanding in the attention he gives and receives, so unlike most of the men I'm acquainted with."
As disappointing as it was Emi couldn't blame the girl for not wanting to give the demon up for the evening. Had he been hers she would have probably answered the same way. As for the demon himself he was doing his best it would seem to not look affected by the way the his owner was touching him but Emi had been around demon's for long enough to know the tell tale signs. His eyes were tinged pink now and his breathing was slightly ragged as his hand came up to still Botan's from moving. "I understand, perhaps we could work something else out then?" While Taikai was possessive if she ordered him to participate in a little private party he'd do as he was told. "I could bring Taikai over and we could share the two of them. Think of it as a small party before the competition starts."
Hiei gave the woman a cold look, a snarl forming on his lips at the mere suggestion. There was no way in hell he was going to bed the bitch and she'd be doing well to leave the room before he lost his temper and slaughtered her for the very suggestion. Knowing that he couldn't exactly tell her to fuck off and die like he wanted, he settled for leaning back against Botan's chest and trying to ignore the way she felt pressed up against him. "If you want your pet to die before the tournament starts then bring him over. I do not share."
"Hiei! Be nice or else." Botan gave a gentle tug on his collar though she made no other move to reprimand him, something that was not lost on Emi. At last she finally seemed to be taking the hint although Botan was relieved to see that she hadn't taken offense to what Hiei had said. There would have been hell to pay if she had and then insisted that the apparition be appropriately punished.
Emi laughed lightly and then fixed the two of them with a resigned look. Long ago she'd once been the same as the girl before her, getting far too attached to her pets. Unfortunately there was always someone stronger out there and they were all destined to die. Sooner or later Botan would learn that as well. "A word of advice Botan, try not to get too attached, you'll never know when he'll step in the ring only to be carried out." Seeing the horror struck look on Botan's face she shook her head once more. "I must be going, if you change your mind my room is number 210. If not then I'll see you during dinner most likely and then again tomorrow. Have fun you two."
"See you at dinner." Botan's words followed Emi out of the room although the ferry girl had as of yet not removed herself from the bench they were seated on. As the door clicked shut behind the woman she abruptly found herself pressed flat against her back with Hiei on top of her, staring coldly into her eyes. "Hiei?" She got no further as the apparition's lips closed over her own, his tongue invading her mouth forcefully. Unsure of just what spurred this on, her hands braced against his chest for mere moments before Hiei yanked them away and pinned them against the plush cushion. By the time he pulled away from
her their breathing was ragged and there was no mistaking the hardness pressing against her thigh.
Pushing himself up and away from her Hiei took one final look at her before snarling. "Continue to tease me in such a fashion and I promise you that next time I will not stop regardless of this dinner you wish to go to." Leaving her to stare after him in shock, Hiei stormed into the bathroom and shut the door behind him firmly. As his hands went to the clasps holding his pants shut he knew that this was going to be the longest weekend of his life. Already his desires were causing him hell and it was only a matter of time before he tore those flimsy clothes off of the woman in the other room. In the meantime he'd have to restrain himself as much as possible using any means necessary.

Botan was rather subdued as she walked into the dining room and looked around. It was certainly spacious enough and definitely well suited to these sort of formal events. Each table was graced with an elegant tablecloth, the dinnerware of the finest porcelain rimmed with gold. Crystal wine glasses gleamed beneath the gentle light that the chandelier gave off and the soft murmur of voices was almost soothing to her frazzled nerves. Smoothing her hands down the sleek black cocktail dress, Botan tossed her hair back and strode into the room with a confidence she didn't feel. Even Hiei had dressed for the occasion, this time in a formal outfit much the same as he'd worn during the start of the Dark Tournament though this one was black and adorned with a crimson dragon. They certainly attracted their fair share of attention as she made her way towards the table they'd been assigned to.
For his part Hiei was carefully scanning the crowd, searching for their target and desperately trying to ignore the way the velvet clung to the deity's backside. The little relief he'd gotten earlier in the bathroom had only been a quick distraction, not nearly enough to sate his appetite and he well knew it. At least tomorrow he'd be able to channel some of that energy into blood lust once the killing began, in the meantime however he'd be forced to deal with it as best as he could. Finally they reached the table and he waited for Botan to take her seat before moving to the chair next to her. The soft music was grating on his nerves but he didn't complain like he wanted. Instead he crossed his arms and looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of Kurama. As twisted as it was, the apparition could only hope that things were going just as miserably for his partner as it was for him.
"There they are.” Botan subtly indicated their partners in crime standing near the head table, conversing with a man that looked very similar to the way Sakyo had all those years ago. Clearly he was a close family member of the deceased man and given the respect that he was being shown, most likely this was the man they were to take out while they were there. Two others stood beside the man, one of which was clearly youkai. It seemed as if Kagome had easily inserted herself right in the middle of the leaders and was being accepted with ease.
It was surprising to the both of them the miraculous transformation that Kagome had undergone since they'd last seen her. She was easily pulling off the part of the businesswoman. Coldness, arrogance and sophistication radiated off of her but there were still telltale signs of uncertainty if you knew the girl well. Hiei kept a close watch on the kitsune standing slightly behind her, noticing the way his posture spoke of agitation. Something had happened to irritate Kurama but without being able to use the Jagan there was no way for him to know just what had transpired. "And that would be Kaito." Hiei kept his voice low so as not to be overheard by the neighboring tables, which was just as well, their waiter approached with a menu and a bottle of wine.
Botan took the elegantly written menu and peered at it, unsure of what she wanted to order. It was expected that Hiei was not to receive one, as it was up to her sole discretion as to whether or not he even ate tonight. The lobster looked delicious to her but she was uncertain whether the demon beside her would even eat such a thing. 'What does he even eat? I don't think I've ever seen it happen.' Slowly she leaned over to whisper to him, although it appeared that he was completely ignoring her. "You aren't a vegetarian are you?"
Slowly the apparition turned to look at her as if she'd lost her mind. What did he look like? A cow? "Don't be foolish woman, I'm a fire demon not a rabbit." Briefly he scanned the menu and ignored the flustered look that the ferry girl was currently sporting. It wasn't as if she was the only one who was being affected by their close proximity. "Steak, rare. Lot's of it." Leaning back in his chair he continued his observation of the group at the head table. Kaito it would seem was quite taken with Kagome already, which would make getting close to him all that much easier. Perhaps they wouldn't have to stay the whole weekend, which would be to everyone's benefit.
Botan sighed and gestured the waiter over, ignoring the apparition beside her in favor of placing their orders. "I'll have the lobster tail dinner, lots of butter to go with it. Hiei will have the sirloin dinner, as rare as you can make it. Oh and please bring extra rolls with that, thank you." Already her mouth was watering over the prospect of their meals. It had been ages since she'd had actually been able to indulge in such an extravagant dinner and she intended to enjoy her food. "The sound of laughter drew her attention back to the head table, Botan's eyes widening at the sheer anger showing on Kagome's face. Kurama's wasn't much better; he looked positively lethal as he followed behind the small girl. Kaito's eyes trailed after her, clearly amused by whatever had transpired. The youkai she'd just stormed away from looked stunned, clearly not accustomed to a woman putting him in his place. “What do you think just happened?”
One of the benefits of being a demon was of course hearing that was superior to that of a humans. A smirk crossed Hiei's face having heard exactly what Kagome had said to the man, Kurama was going to have fun with her later without a doubt now. Hiei wondered if the girl had realized just what she had done. “The fool asked her why she didn't smell of sex if Kurama was her pleasure slave. Unfortunately that question earned him a slight lecture on human monthly cycles.”
“Oh my.” Botan giggled into her hand at that thought, no wonder the man looked like he'd just been slapped. While it explained Kagome's look though, it didn't necessarily explain Kurama's. Being what he was, Botan knew that he was well aware of how the female body worked. 'Maybe he didn't like them thinking they were sleeping together.' Somehow Botan doubted it but there was no telling when it came to Kurama. `He always has been a hard one to figure out.'
“It would be amusing to see the look on her face tonight when they return to the room.” The tension between the priestess and his partner was clear to see and it left Hiei wondering just what was going through Kurama's head.' Would he go through with it?' Seeing the curious look on Botan's face make his smirk deepen, the girl didn't realize what had in fact happened. Pity Botan didn't realize she was in the same boat, although the thought of bedding her was only disturbing because he found her attractive in the first place. Whether anything beyond this weekend came to be he wasn't certain of, there was a strong chance they'd go their separate ways. He wasn't looking for a long-term
relationship to begin with but if the sex was good, he wasn't about to complain while it lasted.
Curiously Botan gazed at the apparition sitting next to her, resting her chin on the palm of her hand. “What's going to happen when they get back to the room tonight?” If anything Hiei seemed to be taking sadistic pleasure out of some knowledge that only he knew about. As a peculiar gleam entered into his eyes realization dawned upon her leaving her to blush. “You're kidding!” A few heads turned at that statement, leaving Botan to look sheepish. Even Kurama had cast a look over in her direction forcing her to lower her voice to barely above a whisper. “You're not serious.” This was better than the latest gossip floating around the Reikai. “You can't be, they aren't like that.”
“Not yet anyway, but after tonight they will be.” It was almost a certainty with the way that Kurama was now looking at the miko. He could almost envy the man but the priestess clearly wasn't interested in him to begin with and he had better things to do than pursue a reluctant female who was still pining over a lost love. Now the female beside him was a different story, Hiei had seen just how receptive she was with just a couple of touches. `How loud will she scream my name when I finally decide to take her?'
The certainty in Hiei's voice had her pausing, while she didn't know the girl that well Kagome definitely didn't seem to be the type to give it up easily. However if the man next to her was to be believed that was exactly what had just happened. “I'll have to ask her how it was later on.” The thought slipped out without any regard to her current company as Botan tried to keep from staring at the couple. Slowly she picked up her wine glass and took a sip of the sweet liquid. She'd always been curious as to how it would feel to be with a man but she'd never had the opportunity to develop that much of a relationship. Work took up entirely too much time and she'd been reduced to buying batteries frequently. Those of her friends that didn't have half of the workload that she did said that it wasn't a substitute for the real thing.
Hiei merely quirked an eyebrow at Botan's comment, unsure of what to make of it. She was one of the last women he'd expect to want to engage in that topic of conversation, right along with Keiko. Come to think of it, only Shizuru and Genkai really seemed the type to want to know the juicy details, apparently he'd been mistaken. The sound of approaching footsteps stopped him from making a comment though as their food was brought to them. The way Botan's eyes lit up upon seeing the steamed lobster nearly had him rolling his eyes. `Is it really so much of a delicacy that even Koenma can't afford to treat the girl every once in a while?' As his steak was set in front of him he dutifully began cutting it up, making sure that it was cooked the way he'd wanted. When a blood red center was revealed he nodded in approval and started to eat while the girl next to him began working on her lobster.
From across the room Taikai and Emi watched the pair interacting, one with interest, and one with indifference. The demon pushed his plate aside to stare at his mistress who continued to watch the apparition across the room, barely picking at her food. “You want him.” It wasn't a question; there was no denying that spark of lust in her eyes. He'd seen it enough after all. A slight flare of jealousy rose up only to be pushed away, this had happened before and he was used to it. Occasionally someone would catch her interest but she quickly returned to him. Not that it mattered much, he was a slave and his thoughts held no bearing on what she said or did
“He interests me, yes.” There was no point in denying it although at the moment Emi knew that there was only a slim chance she'd get what she wanted. However since Botan was relatively new to the game there was always a chance that she'd become bored with the apparition and the competition in general. If that was the case then it was in her best interests to remain friendly with the girl. There was no rule stating that you couldn't own more than one demon after all. When Botan looked up and saw her watching, Emi smiled broadly and waved a greeting before turning back to her dinner.
It hadn't been only Botan that Emi's attention had attracted; now Hiei was looking over as well although his expression was far from friendly. Taikai knew, as much as the other might try to hide it that there was some level of feeling there for the girl. Otherwise at best Botan would receive indifference from him as they sat together. Instead the apparition was gazing around the room, making sure no one came too close to the table. Many might pass it off as the man being antisocial but somehow he doubted it. ”He seems taken with the girl, you aren't likely to sway either of their decisions.” It had been surprising to hear of the words Hiei had spoken to his mistress since few turned her down. The fact that Botan had done nothing to correct those words spoke volumes to him as well. Emi didn't have a chance, no matter how beautiful she was.
“I didn't ask your opinion Taikai, be silent.” Even if the words her demon had spoken were true they weren't something that Emi necessarily wanted to hear. For a few more minutes she picked at her food before turning to look at the two in question again. One of them had managed to move even closer to the other, though she couldn't say which one it was that had shifted position. Now Hiei was positively hovering over the girl and trying not to make it obvious. She was just about to get up and leave when Kaito, current leader of the Black Black Club stood to give the speech that would officially start the competition.
A still silence filled the room as he stood up and hit the side of his glass with the spoon. The ringing sound echoed through the room getting the attention he desired. Kaito cleared his throat once all eyes were upon him. “I look around this room and I see a lot of familiar faces, a few new. Let us enjoy another weekend together and remember that there are rules that still apply. At nights please remember to have your possession locked up tight. Any youkai wearing a collar roaming after hours will be punished and the owner reprimanded and fined. Don't forget we're all here to try and make money. Anyone with questions or concerns are to come to Mr. Omagashi or me directly. For those that are new, we wish you welcome and hope to see more of you in the future. With that said please enjoy the rest of your evening. There will be drinks in the lobby after dinner is concluded. I bid you a pleasant evening and the best of luck to you all.”
As Kaito returned to his seat Emi stood and gestured to the demon sitting next to her. If nothing else she wanted to get away from it all and relax for the rest of the evening, maybe even try to find something to distract her from the apparition who was now staring at her. “Come Taikai, we must rest for the games tomorrow.”
Hiei watched as the two departed, one final look being cast in his direction. He was more than happy that those two were leaving, the woman's near constant stare had been more than disturbing even though Botan had tried to curb it some by moving closer to him. It would seem that her plan had worked, they were now leaving, not that he minded any. Truthfully he was ready to get out of there as well and it looked as if Kurama were ready to do the same. When he saw the kitsune and the miko stand however he resigned himself to waiting a little while longer. It would seem out of place if they left the dining room at the same time.
“So many people seem to be leaving.” For a moment Botan's eyes lingered on Kagome's form before sliding over to another couple so as not to draw attention. There was a look of irritation on the girl's face, most likely it had been the speech that had set her off yet again. Hopefully Kurama would be able to get her calmed down before something unforeseen happened. Slowly she leaned back in her own chair, a slight smile playing on her lips as Emi walked past their table. Pitching her voice low and husky she leaned over to Hiei. “I'm ready to get out of here, what do you say we return to the room and continue our earlier... discussion?”
Seeing Emi's back stiffen had Hiei smirking for a moment, he had to give the ferry girl credit, she certainly knew how to rub salt in a person's wounds. “Unless you'd rather continue it here.” A thin eyebrow raised in amusement as she paled at his blatant suggestion. She'd probably faint if he were to climb under the table and do just that.
Suddenly Botan wasn't feeling so brave anymore, not knowing if he might be serious after what he'd done to her earlier in the day. Her hand shook as she reached for the wine glass. “Let me finish my drink first and then we can go.” Was he just putting on a show for Emi's benefit? It didn't seem likely anymore since the woman left quickly when she'd asked her question. So what was the purpose in continuing it? For the benefit of the others around them? Perhaps that was it. 'He couldn't possibly be interested in me.'
Hiei watched the girl carefully, not failing to miss her nervousness. If Botan wasn't careful she'd spill her drink and draw even more attention to the both of them. Keeping his voice low he sought to reassure her, something he'd never seen himself doing in the past. “Relax, I'm not going to molest you right here in front of everyone.” The wording left it open for him to change his mind later about taking her if she managed to calm herself. Her reactions were enough to tell him that the ferry girl was a virgin, although that in itself wasn't entirely surprising to him.
“I know.” She managed to give him a slight smile before downing the rest of her drink without regard to just who happened to be watching. As she pushed away from Hiei's hand he latched onto her arm to steady her as her vision blurred. 'Damn, I shouldn't have done that!' It was rare that she drank and when she did it was never more than a glass. However this time she'd actually had three and the last one she'd slammed back all at once. She'd definitely be feeling this later on.
Once Hiei was certain she wasn't about to fall he let go of her arm, eying her carefully to make sure she didn't fall on her face. So this was another interesting fact that he hadn't known, she couldn't hold her alcohol. Resigning himself to watching over her all night he waited for her to begin walking towards to door. More than one set of eyes were upon her as they prepared to leave and Hiei made certain to stick close to her side just in case some fool decided to approach.
A groan nearly escaped him when someone did just that and unfortunately it wasn't someone he could just kill either. The tiger youkai who had been standing next to Kaitou approached, his eyes glued to Botan's backside making Hiei want to snarl at him. The man stank of arousal and most likely figured the ferry girl would be an easy target to sate his lusts on. There was no way in hell Hiei would allow that to happen on this night or any other, not when the girl wasn't capable of making a decision with a clear head. Then again, even if she could scum like this demon wasn't fit to touch her.
Takumi had been ready to depart himself, not having found anything to keep his attention for the evening when the young lady had stood, revealing a very curvaceous body to his view. Of course she had her demon companion with her but that meant absolutely nothing to him. The woman was beautiful in his opinion and looked as if she knew how to
have a bit of fun. Seeing her stumble slightly made a grin cross his lips, she seemed to be a bit inebriated but it would likely wear off soon enough. Confidently he approached the pair, arrogantly dismissing the glare that was being thrown at him by the smaller demon. “Excuse me Miss, do you need assistance to get to your room?”
“Assistance?” Botan peered up at the man, and here she thought Kurama had been tall. Once more a steadying hand found its way to her arm though the grip was a bit too tight for her comfort. A low growl of warning came from the apparition beside her though she waved it off. The man was just being nice after all; she couldn't fault him for that. “Oh no, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me!”
Takumi smiled politely but didn't move away from the girl despite her assurances that she'd be fine. “Please, I insist. All of our guests are special here and we'd be dreadfully upset if something should happen that we could have prevented.” The words rolled off of his tongue with ease, seeking to convince her that was indeed the only motive that he had. Perhaps once he'd escorted her to the room she'd invite him in. Who knows what might happen then.
When the man took Botan by the arm and started leading her to the entrance Hiei was left with no choice but to follow. Rage flowed through him, a desire to kill the man who had dared to touch her yet he could not. With his ki restrained he was at a disadvantage and the tiger youkai knew it. To attack the man with his strength alone would give them reason to search deeper into their story to be here. Every alibi had a weakness; it was just a matter of finding it. This was definitely trouble they didn't need. Reluctantly Hiei forced the anger down while keeping a very close eye on just where the man's hands strayed on Botan's body.
As they reached the girl's room, Takumi stopped her for a moment and tilted her chin up, forcing her to look at him. When it off balanced her slightly his arm went around her waist though for the moment he refrained from going any lower though he did pull her in closer to his own body. His voice was husky when he spoke, causing her eyes to widen considerably. “Will you be alright for now? If not I will be happy to remain with you until this passes.”
“Oh no, I'll be fine! Thank you for escorting me.” Quickly she extricated herself from his grip and removed the key from the small purse she was carrying. Something about the man now set her nerves on edge, instinct telling her not to allow him into her room. “Good night.” She dismissed him as politely as she could, noticing the look on his face as he departed. Something told her that was one demon who wouldn't give up. Taking a deep breath she unlocked the door and stepped inside, allowing Hiei in before she closed the door firmly and threw the deadbolt.
Hiei said nothing as they moved deeper into the room, not even when she forgot to remove the leash. Instead the woman climbed up onto the bed and lay there, though he wasn't sure whether it was more out of surprise that the man had approached her like that or if she'd actually been shaken by the encounter. When he sat on the bed beside her, a shudder when through her body although she was looking through him like he wasn't even there. Slowly he touched her, causing Botan to look up at him slowly before he lay down next to her. His voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke, his hard eyes telling her not to argue under any circumstances. “You are not to leave this room without me, I don't think I have to tell you just what he was planning. You are also to avoid him if at all possible unless it jeopardizes what we came to do. Do you understand?”
Slowly Botan nodded, not having any desire to argue with him for once. Only then did he relax and begin to move away but she stopped him, gripping the front of his shirt. Waiting to see if he pushed her away, Botan began moving closer to the apparition. If nothing else she felt safer by the demon's side, he wouldn't allow anything to happen to her as long as he was around.
For a moment Hiei stared at her, tempted to move away anyway but something in her eyes asked him to stay. For several long seconds he contemplated the ramifications of remaining. It would calm her down, of this he was certain although what would she think in the morning? More to the point, if he didn't sleep in the bed the only option left to him was the floor, which wasn't exactly appealing. The bench was an option but it wasn't a comfortable alternative even with how short he was. Granted, it wasn't likely he was going to sleep anyway but at least he could be comfortable. With his decision made he relaxed further, letting the ferry girl continue her efforts of coming closer until her head rested upon his chest. As her eyes drifted closed his gaze never left her and he couldn't help but wonder exactly what he'd done to deserve this.
~*~
