note!: Thanks to SadBrokenWings, Kagome Lady of Darkness, halfblackwolfdemon, Megan Consoer, stayawayspirits, and Medeia for reviewing!! You guys are awesome! (I might’ve missed someone, my reviews are acting funny) Keep on letting me know what you think!

halfblackwolfdemon: I was thinking of that as a possibility! We’ll see though!

Medeia: I’m not particularly fond of the threesome pairings. Kagome never seemed the type to do something like that. So rest assured it won’t be one of those! I’m thinking either Hiei/Kag, Sesshomaru/Kag, or maybe even Yusuke/Kag.
I love all you visitors! I apologize if this one comes out bolded too, I don’t know what caused the last one to do that, and I know how annoying it must be to read!

Oh and from now thoughts inside of ‘ ‘ belong to Youko, thoughts inside of - - belong to Kurama, and italic ‘’ belong to Hiei

“Sesshomaru…”

I looked up sharply at my sister. What did she mean ‘Sesshomaru?’ That was supposed to be one of her youkai friends from the past. Well, from what Kagome had told me, they couldn’t exactly be called friends.

-------------------Flashback----------------------------- --------

“Kagome! You’re home!” as usual I attacked my sister with a hug when I found her to be sitting in her room studying.

“Hai Souta, for a week this time!” She giggled and motioned for me to come and sit with her. Of course, I did, falling unceremoniously onto her bed with a thump. She returned to her studying and we sat in silence. It only took a minute before I got tired of it and spoke. She didn’t seem to mind, Kagome knew what to expect when I was with her. After all, I am her brother.

“Sis, what kind of stuff did you do in the past this time?” Kagome closed her book and came to sit down next to me. She looked like she was thinking really hard, and I was about to repeat the question when she spoke.

“Well…I helped out Inuyasha’s half brother, Sesshomaru, although he doesn’t know that. Remember not to tell him!” I nodded fiercely, and waited for her to explain further.

“You see Souta, he and Inuyasha fight all the time, and the only reason Sesshomaru doesn’t die was because his sword saves him. Last week they got into one of those fights, and after we left, I felt something kinda weird. I used the excuse I wanted to bathe to go check it out. Sango promised to make sure the guys didn’t try to follow me.” I frowned, that didn‘t sound like a very safe or smart thing to do.

“But you coulda gotten hurt!” She giggled at my protectiveness and gave me a small hug.

“I know, but at the time I was too curious to stop myself. Well, I had located the thing that gave me the weird feeling. It was none other than Sesshomaru. He seemed hurt so I bent down next to him and asked what was wrong. He was silent for awhile before saying-” She paused, making her face as emotionless as possible.

“’Human why are you here?’ I of course ignored him and began to make sure he was ok. He had an icky looking gash on his one good arm so I began to dig through my stuff, to patch him up.” Kagome once again paused, this time to giggle. “Sesshomaru swatted away my hand and said something about being able to kill me at anytime if he wanted. Well duh! He’s a demon after all! I told him that, and went back to tying up his arm, even though he said his youkai powers would heal it once his youki returned. I guess the Tensaiga uses some of his energy?” My sister then began to talk about how she had asked about Rin, and he had actually answered. From then on out, at random periods of time he would run into Kagome out of ‘coincidence’ and leave Rin in her care for safekeeping.

-----------------------------------

It had to have been him. As a man neared, Kagome jumped up, leaving her ice cream forgotten on the ground. She called out his name louder and launched herself into his arms. Sesshomaru patted her back awkwardly, and a invisible wave of relief rushed over him as the girl let go. Even after 500 years, he was the same old Sesshomaru.

“What are you doing here?!” She was ecstatic knowing someone from my past still survived. “What-?” Kagome was cut off by the taiyoukai’s voice.

“I shall explain momentarily. First however, this Sesshomaru must take care of something.” The demon lord turned towards the trees and Kagome noted his hardened expression, thankful the last inhabitants of the park left with his arrival.

“You four, reveal yourself or face the Taiyoukai of the Makai.” Souta had inched his way instinctively closer to his sister, and when the demon had unleashed a green stream of light towards the trees he jumped. The first had emitted a yelp of surprise and made his way out the forest hastily. The second looked tense, but emerged from the foliage at a normal pace. The third looked relaxed and made his way out with his hands in his pockets. The fourth and final, however was too fast for Kagome to notice his appearance, but could tell when he stopped that the person was on edge. A voice rang out from among them, and she noted that it appeared to be coming from the second.

“Lord Sesshomaru, we are here solely on the request of Prince Koenma, to investigate the youki in the area. We are the Reikai Tantei.” He began to walk closer, and the first two followed. The fourth remained where he stood, still seeming to be wary.

“You have investigated it then, be gone.” Souta looked at his sister with a slightly worried gaze and Kagome hugged him before standing and making her way over to Sesshomaru. She was a little confused when he used the term Makai, so Kagome decided to stick with less private questions while the eavesdroppers were near.

“Sesshomaru, what did you mean by Makai? I thought you were the Lord of the Western Lands.” She stood next to him, and held in a gasp as three of the men revealed themselves as the same people from the museum. Sesshomaru hadn’t answered, and Kagome decided to question him again later when these three and the strange new one had left.

“Kurama was it? You guys should go home, there’s no reason for you to be here.”

“Miss Kagome, this man is dangerous you should be the one to leave.” She rolled her eyes at the formality and inwardly sighed. They obviously knew of demons, since their companion with the ruby eyes seemed to be one himself. No one seemed to feel the need to be discrete.

“Why should I leave? Of course Lord Sesshomaru is dangerous, anyone who didn’t think any demon of his power was would have to be stupid.”

“Then why the hell are you standing there woman, you should leave while you can!” The one with the hair gel spoke roughly, and everyone could tell he was getting fed up with all the talking. Still, the fact he hadn’t called Kagome by her name annoyed her to no end. Ever since Inuyasha that had been one of her major pet peeves. In fact, she was just getting ready to correct him when Sesshomaru chose to intervene.

“Enough. This woman and her family are under my protection. Leave us now, or I will make you.” They all seemed al little surprised by the fact, and Kagome took the short lull in the argument to notice Souta had once again attached himself to her arm, watching the occurrence with fascination. The crimson-eyed one spoke, his deep voice cutting through the silence.

“Hn, the Lord of the Makai has a human ward? How weak.” Oh. Wrong thing to say to Sesshomaru. No one should ever question his power. Speaking of, he had already launched his attack on the youkai. He had managed to dodge several of the lords attacks, but when he paused long enough for Kagome to see him, she noticed he sported several gashes that would take quiet a while to heal. His companions waited only a moment before coming to his aid, and the orange-haired one charged at Sesshomaru with some kind of glowing sword-thing. His stance was similar to Inuyasha’s, charging in as if he knew for a fact he would win. When his sword somehow elongated and came close to Souta, Kagome frowned, this was not something she wanted Souta to see.

“Stop!” Sesshomaru paused from his attack on Kazuma, the one who had nearly hit my brother. The others did as well, although slightly more surprised. Kagome’s miko powers had decided to kick in and had somehow caused a very pink energy to surround her. It crackled and the woman noted her brothers surprised gaze with a mental giggle. His and the Reikai Tantei’s eyes were like saucers.

“You four did your job, so leave! If you don’t I’ll purify your demon companion! The fighting is reckless and unneeded!” Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow at the threat, knowing the girl had little control over what her powers decided to do, but the others seemed wary and sheathed their weapons. The one with the eyes and spiky black hair did so with much hesitance, and kept his hand on his katana.

Turning towards Sesshomaru once again, Kagome spoke, the pink fading from around her form. “My lord,” The formality was necessary at least around the four miscreants. “Would you care to accompany my brother and I home, where we can talk without being spied on?” She gave the others a pointed look, and Souta stuck his tongue out at them, making her giggle. It ruined the seriousness of the moment.

“Hai, Kagome.” He turned and walked towards the exit, and they followed. Souta was transfixed with Sesshomaru and soon caught up with him and began shooting off questions so fast only a demon could understand. With one glance backward, Kagome gave a small wave, then broke into a jog to catch up.

“So Sesshomaru, care to explain everything? I must’ve missed a lot. What’s the Makai? Where are the others? And the Shikon?” He turned the corner and the trio approached the shrine, it didn’t bother the two that he knew where they lived without telling him.

Souta led the way up the steps and sat down over by the Goshinboku, followed shortly after by Kagome. Sesshomaru stood and observed.

“The explanation is long, and I shall only recite it once. The day you were sent back here was the day the gods decided to intervene. They saw what was occurring and knew if things were left to the fates, that many needless deaths would occur. King Enma and the others constructed 3 realms on earth, the way they work would be to complex for you to understand, so I shall refrain from explaining. The 3 realms are known as: the Makai, a demon realm, the Ningenkai, the human realm, and the Reikai, the spirit realm. All the demons were pulled into the new realm for demons, leaving all the humans in this world. Spirits, even ones such as the dead miko, were pulled into the Reikai, for judgment. The whole process took only several hours to make sure everyone was in their respective realm, but since you came from another era, your transport was immediate. I was instilled as the Lord of Makai.”

Kagome‘s face showed her slight confusion and curiosity over the matter. Since he had just spoken more than she‘d ever heard him say in her life, she figured now would be the time to ask him about the Shikon. When she did he gave her an annoyed look.

“I wasn’t finished miko. Because the jewel was far from complete, any demons who possessed a shard of the jewel were kept in the Ningenkai, along with my worthless brother and your other two youkai. This was to speed up the process of finding the shards. After six months, they collected the last shard that didn’t belong either Naraku, or that ookami Kouga. I believe the shard was in a mutated wasp. That same day Inuyasha ran into the evil hanyou and somehow managed to destroy him. His wounds from Naraku were deep, but he could have survived. He refused to heal himself however, and died on the field. He didn’t want to live without you. The Shikon shards were sent to the Reikai, and as far as my knowledge extends they are being guarded there today.”
------------------------------------------

I had stopped listening after I heard about Inuyasha. Part of me was elated to know the truth and know everyone else lived, the other half was in tears over the loss of my Inuyasha. Would I always have to be so torn? Guilt washed over me, knowing I lived while he had died because he couldn’t be separated from me. I had even promised myself to get over him. I was a horrible person. My brother sensed my inner turmoil and hugged me. I buried myself in his shoulder, but no tears came. Pushing my brother away softly I stood and looked upon Sesshomaru with my painfully dry eyes. Was it me or did he actually have a hint of sympathy in his eyes? I didn’t care and hugged him again. He tensed, but returned the embrace.

“Thank you for telling me.” I pulled away and turned to Souta.

“Can you tell Mom I’ll be back a little later? I should go to this Reikai place to get the shards.” I wasn’t about to give up on the quest now that I knew where the shards lie. Souta ran up and hugged me, whispering in my ear to stay safe before heading back towards the house.

“Sesshomaru, can you take me to the Reikai?” He nodded and I smiled sadly.

“One last thing. What happened to my baby?” I didn’t even need to tell him I was talking about the fluffy, orange haired kit.

“He is still alive, and living with me in the Makai. I shall alert him of your presence when I return to the Makai.” Smiling, this time out of joy, I walked into the black void Sesshomaru had opened for me. I was about to be complete.
----------------------------------------------

̶ 0;I’m telling you Botan, that girl glowed!” Yusuke shouted in his communicator at the overly cheerful Botan.
“Well that’s odd. Maybe Koenma knows something! I’ll send a portal to bring you to his office!” With that Botan shut off communication and closed her eyes. After a minutes a void opened and the four men stepped out of the portal, making their way through the doors to Koenma’s office.

“The girl glowed pink, said something to that demon in disguise then just left!” Koenma sighed at Yusuke’s frustrated form, and noticed the other three. Kuwabara was sitting, and looked as if he was in a daydream. Kurama and Hiei appeared to be immersed in their own thoughts as well. He spoke, and they broke out of their thoughts.

“That is quite odd. Sesshomaru waited for six months for clearance to visit the Ningenkai, and he goes to visit a human? As far as I know he has no human wards. What did you say this girl’s name was?”

“Kagome Higurashi.” Kurama was the one to answer this time.

“Ahh, Botan, bring up this girls file on the screen please.” Botan nodded at Koenma’s ordered, and did as she was instructed. The file however, seemed to confuse everyone. It was nearly empty.

“She lives at a shrine, but the file does not suggest any signs of energy, spiritual or otherwise. In fact, this suggests she is a normal girl. Are you sure you saw her glow, or were you imagining it?” The Spirit Detective frowned and yelled at the toddler.

“I know what I saw! She turned bright pink and threatened to purify Hiei!” He hated when people doubted him. Much to everyone’s surprise, Hiei was the first to back him up.

“The woman glowed.” The demon wasn’t really intrigued by the ninjen, so much as the power within her. It was pure, but wild and seemed untrained.

“Well, if you all saw it, then it definitely needs to be investigated. Find Kagome and bring her back here for questioning.” The demi-god was concerned about his lack of knowledge of the girl’s presence. These kind of things happened way to often.

“There’s no need, I’m already here.” The occupants of the office snapped there heads and looked over at the girl, who was standing casually in the doorway, with a bow and quiver of arrows over her shoulder. Kagome wished Sesshomaru would’ve stayed with her, but he had to return to the Makai, and could only provide her with a portal to the office of the one she needed to talk to along with her weapon, as a precaution.

“Good, Kagome, come in and sit.” Koenma waited long enough only for her to get comfortable before continuing. “How did you get here?” He was almost positive Sesshomaru had created the portal here, but he had to make sure.

“Lord Sesshomaru took me. I think he said I was supposed to talk with someone named Koenma about something.” She hated being vague, and Kagome was naturally a very trustworthy person, but she had to be cautious for the sake of Shikon. It was good that she was, for as she was talking a certain demon was prying into her thoughts. Or at least trying to.

‘What is she thinking?’ Youko asked, breaking Hiei’s concentration.

‘Either she has powerful barriers or is as empty headed as Kuwabara. I can’t read her thoughts.’ His voice had a slightly frustrated edge. This girl was proving to be a challenge.

‘Hmm, how odd. Keep trying Hiei.’ Kagome was bringing out his curiosity, which for Kagome was not a good thing. The curiosity of a kitsune was not to be taken lightly.

-You two are going to miss what they are saying if you keep talking much longer.- Youko settled in and concentrated on the woman in silence. Kurama sighed, thankful for the peaceful moment.
‘Hn.’ Hiei closed the link between himself and the fox. He refused to take orders from anyone, but decided he would keep trying to sate his own curiosity. They had missed Koenma’s introduction, but that didn’t matter anyway. Hiei focused as the woman began to speak.

“Nice to meet you Prince Koenma. I need to ask you a few questions, and I will answer yours in return. I‘d like to do it alone, though.” She smiled apologetically in the Reikai Tantei’s direction.

Koenma shook his head, moving his pacifier to the other side of his mouth in the process. “I’m sorry Kagome, the boys are trustworthy, if only that, and it is their concern as well as mine.” She sighed at his response, and decided to trust them. It was risky, but she felt safe here, and Sesshomaru had assured her no harm would come to her.

“Alright, ask away.”

The prince wasted no time. “Who are you really, and why are you here?” Short and to the point. She wanted this to be over quickly, so Kagome decided to be direct as well.

“I am Kagome Higurashi, I’m here to retrieve the missing pieces of the Shikon no Tama and resume my position as guardian and protector of the Jewel.” To Yusuke and Kuwabara, this meant nothing. They had no clue what the jewel even was. Everyone else, however was quite surprised.

“How am I to know you are the protector? I have no records to back up that statement. Besides, that miko was believed to live over 500 years ago.”

Kagome was a little irked that they didn’t believe her, but it was understandable. She proceeded to explain her story, and the information Sesshomaru had told her about after her disappearance. Afterwards, she showed them her small fragment of the jewel. Silence followed as they digested the information, and after several minutes a voice broke out in the room. Hiei and Kurama had retreated into their own minds, trying to digest the information. Neither of them was that old, Youko being the oldest at over 300 years, so they were hesitant to trust the ninjen woman. With Hiei, however, it was even hesitancy, he trusted no one. It seemed Koenma shared their thoughts, but at least had a remedy for the problem.

“If you really are the miko of legend, then you will be able to purify and fuse the jewel back together, something we haven’t been able to do. Botan, go get the Shikon.” At his words, she smiled and nodded, vanishing with a ‘pop!’ “Kagome, if you try anything other than purifying or fusing the jewel, I will have no other choice but to have them-” He motioned towards the detectives “take care of you.”

Kagome agreed, he was only taking precaution he thought necessary.

“Are you serious? I can’t hurt a girl, it’s against my code! Don’t worry Kagome I won’t let them hurt you!” Kuwabara was now standing protectively in front Kagome, and she couldn’t help but laugh. He was a little thickheaded and it irked her that he thought all girls needed protection, but the intention was good.

“She’s a human, brat. A demon woman, sure, but a human girl?” Yusuke stayed in his seat but was looking over at Koenma with an unsure expression.

“Thanks for your concern, Kuwabara, Yusuke, but I’m sure there will be no need to ‘take care of me.’” Kurama noted that the girl seemed not to feel any kind of tension or apprehension at all, and must’ve been very sure of herself. As that thought passed, he heard the pop signifying Botan’s return. She looked worried, and made her way over to Koenma whispering in his ear. Koenma’s eyes widened and he turned to her, speaking in a steady and soft voice.

“What do you mean the jewel’s not there?!”
