By My Mistress's Side

Prologue

She fought to stay asleep, she definitly wasn't ready to get up yet. With a small groan she pulled the covers over her head. The covers were a lot softer than she remembered them. Rubbing her fingers against them, she realizedrealizing that the material felt more like silk, definitly not the cotton comforter she remembered pulling up to her chin when she climbed into bed the previous night. The lavender scented pillow was also cool and silky against her cheek, again not the pillow she remembered.

The door opened, a soft click resounded in the silence as it closed once again. Her body went rigid, 'I don't have a door,' she thought. Cautiously she pulled the blanket down and peered over the top. Were she standing her jaw probably would have hit the floor. The figure with lavender hair was very familiar and it only took her a moment to remember where she had seen that delectable body before. "Shido?" she whispered. He turned to her, obviously having heard her, as he set a food filled tray on a beautifully carved table near a window, draped with heavy brocaded damask curtains. He smiled at her, revealing his sharp gleaming fangs ever so slightly, looking as though he himself were fighting sleep.

"I'm sorry to wake you Mistress but you did say that you wished to arise early today."

"I did?" Even more confused she sat up and shivered as the blankets fell away. Looking down she saw that yet another thing was different from the way she remembered climbing into bed. Her nice sensible cotton nighty had been replaced by...nothing. Red rose in her cheeks as she quickly pulled the blanket up to her chin to cover herself. This earned her yet another smile from the gorgeous vampire detective. He began to slowly stalk toward her a hungry look in his eye. "I came a little earlier than you wished...I wanted to say good bye."

"You did?" she gulped, as he knelt on the bed, leaning in so that his face was mere inches from hers.

"Hai Mistress." A knock on the door made her jump. Shido merely sat back, folding his arms, turning his intense yellow gold eyes toward the door.

"C-come in." She stammered hesitantly. The door opened and her eyebrows rose as yet another familiar face popped through the door.

"Rise and shine! Your plane will be ready in two hours, milady, it's time to get up."

She hid her face in her hands. Oh gods, this isn't happening, she thought. Nuriko too?

The blue haired crossdresser stepped into the room, sashaying into the room and scolding Shido for staying up so late.

Reluctantly the vampire rose. She jumped as his hand softly brushed her cheek, sending shivers up her spine. Nuriko rolled his eyes as the door quickly opened and shut, then strode over to the bed. "Come on, up."

"O-okay." She surrendered herself to Nuriko's care and in a whilrwind of action, she was dressed in a smart looking navy blue skirt and blazer and her hair was pulled up into a sensible twist. The next thing she knew she was being swept out the door, the delectible breakfast Shido had brought was all but forgotten. She almost fainted when she saw a ceratin inu taiyoukai standing in the hallway along with another tall blonde whose hair stuck up in front like chicken feathers. Her knees started to turn to jelly and the blonde moved to her side, putting a gentle but firm hand on her elbow.

"You should have eaten you're breakfast, ya know?"

"No time?" she ventured experimentally, Chichiri just shook his head. Sesshomaru stepped forward clearing his throat and she turned her attention to him.

"Everything has been prepared for your journey. All is taken care of here, you need not worry about anything."

She just nodded, still very dazed. What in the world is going on here? she asked herself. Chichiri guided her to the grand marble staircase, Sesshomaru and Nuriko following in her wake. "You have a lot planned on this trip ya know?"

"I do?"

He paused and looked at her critically, "Are you feeling alright?"

She considered this statement, eyebrows raising as she saw Kurama pass by the bottom of the stair, speaking with Yuhi. How many more of her favorite bishounen were wandering around this house? She had fallen asleep in her own bed, yet again thinking what a shame it was these characters weren't real and woken up in a house where she was called mistress by all of them. If this was a dream she never wanted to wake up. "I'm fine, really, what were you saying?"

"Touya has arranged for all the security, ya know? Lantis, Hiei and Kenshin will be accompanying you along with a new recruit called Yusuke. Yuhi is furious he can not come along so he can prepare your food, ya know. Sesshomaru has arranged everything here, ya know? Since you'll be gone so long, he's given everyone vacation but Kurama will tend to the gardens every couple of days, Kouga will look in on the dogs. As he said you need not worry about a thing, ya know?"

As they walked and Chichiri rattled on, her smile grew. 'I could get used to this.' From what Chichiri was saying she was a CEO of a major drug company and was going on a business trip to Japan to discuss overseas marketing.

At the door she bid farewell to those who were staying behind and stepped out into the early morning light. The front patio was enormous and she cast a quick look over her shoulder seeing the gargantuan mansion in which she lived.Off to the right she caught a glimpse of blue and saw the snow white haired hanyou scooping leaves from the pool, barechested, despite the chill of the morning. The bark of a dog split the still air and she saw Kouga walking a pack of huskies. Both gave her a wave and a smile. She heaved a sigh that she was leaving them all behind but the group standing beside the sleek black limo was adequate compensation.
