Chapter Seven -- Apologies

Nakago left him alone in the room and Yusuke worked at the handcuffs again. The skin at his wrists was becoming red and raw, even bleeding in one spot but still he could not break free. His struggles did succeed in turning the chair to face the door. He watched as Naraku entered the room, an unconcious Akari in his arms. Yusuke growled in frustration as the black haired man set her on a pile of cushions in a corner of the room Yusuke had previously been unable to see. Nakago returned and Naraku retreated to stand beside Yusuke. The blonde knelt beside Akari, reaching out to run a hand along her arm. "So soft," he said, tracing now the lines of her face, "So sweet."

Yusuke watched as Nakago's hand traveled down Akari's neck, coming to rest on one of her breasts. "You bastard!" he screamed, feeling a new power surge to his arms. The arms of the chair splintered freeing his hands. Yusuke brought his hand up, pointing one finger at the kneeling blonde, feeling the energy gather at the point of his finger, "Leave her alone!"

He watched the silver white energy streak from the tip of his finger toward Nakago. To his horror the blast bounced off an unseen wall. Behind him he heard Naraku's laughter and whirled, launching himself at the man, fist raised. Brown slimy tentacles exploded from the cuffs of Naraku's jacket and pants. Yusuke tried to dogde and fight them off but soon found himself pinned against the wall. As the boy struggled, Naraku moved closer. "Ah Yusuke, after that little light show you expect us to believe that you care not what happens to that girl?"

Yusuke glared at Naraku and heard Nakago call for one of his lackeys. He paid no attention however as he stared at Naraku. "I'm gonna kick your ass, tentacle boy."

The light sound of a flute filled the air and Yusuke quickly succumbed to the sleeping song of Amiboshi's flute. When he awoke again, he thought at first that he might be blindfolded but soon realized he was in a room with no light. Heavy shackles were clamped around his wrists and feet with only a short chain connect to the wall. There would be no breaking these. He leaned his head back against the wall with a sigh. It was all his fault. Akari was being hurt because of him. A small whimper came to his ears and he heard the clank of chains. "Akari?"

Her voice came hesitant and trembling. "Yu-yusuke?"

"I'm here," another whimper was her only response, "It's alright Akari, I'll find a way out of here."

"Are the bugs gone?" she whispered.

He nodded, knowing she couldn't see the gesture. "Yes Akari, the bugs are gone."

They passed a few moments in silence. Yusuke shifted to a more comfortable position, making the chains holding him rattle. "Don't leave me Yusuke," Akari pleaded from the blackness.

"I'm not going anywhere," he assured her. Silence again. Finally Yusuke said, "This is all my fault."

"No, it isn't."

"Yes it is. If I hadn't said those things to you, you would not have left the room," he paused, "I was wrong to say that. I'm sorry."
For a moment she was silent and Yusuke was afraid that she would not forgive him for getting her into this. Not that he deserved to be forgiven. "I'm not a sugar tit?"

"No, you're not."

"I forgive you."

Suddenly the overhead lights blazed to life, bathing the room in harsh white light. Yusuke blinked a few times, his eyes adjusting
as fast as they could to the sudden light. He looked around for Akari, seeing first that more shackles and chains hung from the ceiling. He saw her, on the other side of the room, chained as he was and he studied her, making certain that Naraku and Nakago had done nothing to her as he slept. She gave him a small smile, as he shook a lock of hair from his eyes. "What?"

"Nothing," she replied, "I just like your hair that way better."

His chuckle was cut short as they heard keys rattling outside the door and the sound of a lock being opened. "Yusuke..."

He wished he could tell her that he wouldn't let them hurt her anymore but finding the strength to break a chair leg was one thing, finding the strength to rip the thick steel chains from the brick wall was another.

Akari pressed against the wall, in a vain attempt to make herself invisible, as Nakago entered the room. Naraku following closely behind, moving to stand beside Yusuke. Nakago crouched before her and she flinched as his hand reached out to stroke her cheek. "You are awake I see."

A sudden flash of anger washed over her and she tried to bite Nakago's hand. Bursts of light exploded before her eyes as her head whipped to the side from the force of the blow. She heard Yusuke call her name but the room swam as tears clouded her vision. She was dully aware of Nakago unlocking the shackles from her wrists and lifting her, only to chain her once again. Her head cleared as her arms were raised above her head. She cried out as she was pulled inches off the floor, pulling painfully at her shoulders. Nakago stood before her once again. "That was not nice, Akari...you will have to pay for that."

Pay? What more torture could he have in store for her. She cast her gaze around the room looking for Yusuke. Where he had once been she found herself looking into her own reflection. "Yusuke!" she cried, forgetting her own predicament in her concern for the young bodyguard.

"Do not worry for your friend," Nakago said as he wheeled a covered cart into her view, "Naraku will make certain he is adequately entertained. Her eyes widened, insides twisting with dread, as the blonde removed the cover, revealing a tray of surgical instruments, scissors, scalpels and other things she could not name. He turned to her, folding his arms across his chest. "I must ask before we begin if you are yet willing to sign over the company to Seto Kaiba."

A forceful "No," fell from her lips before she even had time to consider the question. She couldn't explain it but she knew that she could not give her company to anyone. Nakago smiled at her. "I was hoping that would be your answer."

He knelt beside her, removing her shoes, caressing the soles of her feet. Had she not been so frightened the light touch would have made her laugh. His hands moved up her to her ankles, to her calves, up her thighs with soft, almost sensual movements. She shuddered as those hands moved beneath the skirt she wore, grasping her pantyhose and removing them with the same careful slowness. "Please don't," she whimpered.

Nakago stood, tossing the gauzy material into a corner. "Don't what, Akari?" he said moving closer, his hands coming up to frame the sides of her face, brushing her hair back from it. "I'm merely helping you to get more comfortable."

Across town, Touya glared at the three men standing before him. "How could you let this happen?" he hissed, emerald eyes flashing.

None of them responded. Lantis retained his outward expression of stoicism, yet his dark eyes were remorseful and worried. Kenshin looked utterly crestfallen and Hiei's eyes blazed with anger. Chichiri entered the room, followed closely by Sesshomaru. Both looked worried. Kenshin looked at Chichiri hopefully, "Could you find her?"

The blonde shook his head sadly, "There's no trace of her in Japan, ya know."

"We have called the local authorities. They are sending their miko, she may be able to help," Sesshomaru said.

Chichiri sighed and sat in one of the many chairs, "I should have made her cancel the trip. Her mother's death was to fresh. I knew she was not well."

Touya shook his head, "No. It is I who erred-"

"Enough!" Sesshomaru cut off the head of security, "There is no sense in us wasting time laying blame. The miko...she is here."

The tall silver haired youkai swept out of the room, returning shortly with a tall woman. Raven hair cascaded down her back, stopping just above her waist. Her porcelin features bore a look of cool indifference as she gazed about the room. Chichiri rose and moved to greet her, "Thank you for coming so quickly. Ms.-"

"Kikyou. My name is Kikyou."
