“I can’t believe even Koenma couldn’t find them! Where the hell are these guys!?” Yusuke yelled, pissed at how long it was taking to find Jin and Touya as he and his team hiked a mountain path.
“Well they are - were - Shinobi, Yusuke.” Kurama responded. Kuwabara thought a second.
“That reminds me; anyone know how that worked? You know, getting away from their sect members and all?” Hiei scoffed.
“Risho and Bakken were most likely killed while on Hanging Neck Island. With Gama dead, they didn’t need to return to their homeland - their families, friends and mentors can rightly assume they failed and are dead.” the fire-demon explained.
“Oh.” Kuwabara stated. Kurama, behind Yusuke, slowed and turned his head to the right. The others, noticing his actions, did the same.
“…What is it, Kurama?” Kuwabara asked. Kurama looked at the other three men, then back to the forest he had glanced at.
“I thought I felt a familiar energy, but it is gone now.” the fox-demon said, shrugging it off for the moment.
“Like, possibly Jin or Touya?” Yusuke inquired hopefully. Kurama sighed and shrugged.
“It was passing.” Kurama explained. The group continued traveling up the mountainside, keeping on high alert for any energy that might be their old friends. Kuwabara sensed it first.
“Hey, guys? I think I just felt Jin’s energy. Wow. Yeah, that is definitely his.” the oaf said, feeling a torrent of strong energy coat him. Yusuke grinned.
“You bet it is! Jin, you crazy son-of-a-bitch! Where are you!?” the ex-spirit detective took off, running in the direction of the energy.

Jin floated in the tree tops, gathering random berries and fruits from the plants. Touya had somehow fallen ill weeks previous, but was recovering well considering the solitude of their home. The wind master’s “shirt” had finally seen enough damage; he now went shirtless. Touya’s clothing had lasted a little longer, but his mesh was the only article for his torso left in-tact.
They had stuck together. Through training and the tournaments, Jin and Touya had been a pair. After Gama’s death and the inferred deaths of Bakken and Risho, the two had been left alone. Then they’d spent a year under Genkai, fought in the Demon World Tournament, and went back to being alone. It worked most days, but sometimes, it was just a pain.
He was in the middle of placing berries in a tub to take back to the house when he heard it. Just when he thinks they are never going to see their friends again, he hears Yusuke yelling; and damn if that didn’t make his ears wiggle.
“Jin! You crazy bastard!” Yusuke shouted, running over to the wind master and tackling him to the ground. Jin smirked happily - he’d missed his half-human friend.
“Urameshi! What in the hell brings ya all da way out ‘ere?!” Jin exclaimed, punching Yusuke in the shoulder.
“We’ll tell you as soon as you take us to Touya. We don’t wish to explain this a million times.” Hiei snapped, irritated from Kuwabara. Jin blinked.
“All right then…Follow me then.” he took off through the woods, tub of berries along for the ride. The team scrambled to catch up.

“You look like hell.”
“Thanks, Yusuke.” Touya responded dryly. The ice master was bundled up under a mountain of blankets, his nose red and icy eyes watering. Kurama frowned.
“How does an ice master catch a cold?” Kuwabara asked, scratching his head.
“Demons are people too. Some days.” Yusuke responded, sitting on a stool next to the bed Touya lay in. Touya sniffled.
“I don’ know wha’ to do for ‘im.” Jin lamented, crossing his arms over his bare chest.Silence followed the wind master’s comment. The air was heavy in the small house the two demons occupied. Touya had a bed near the kitchen, and Jin’s was in a loft above. Hiei was busy studying this.
“Well, hate to say it, but we do need your guys’ help ASAP. Koenma’s got two girls pegged for capture, hire, or execution. They’re right up your ally.” Yusuke said, glancing from Jin to Touya and back. Jin gave the ex spirit detective a quizzical look.
“Let me guess; Neko and Kaze, right?” he asked. Everyone turned their attention to him.
“Well, yeah,” Yusuke said, blinking, “You know them?” Jin rolled his eyes.
“Ya might say tha’, Urameshi.” Jin said sagely. Touya coughed.
“They aren’t that bad, Jin. They’re just without guidance.” the ice master said sleepily, sinking further into the blankets and drifting into sleep.
“Well, whatever it is. Nah, Neko wasn’t half bad but that Kaze…They don’t make wind demons like they used to.” the Irishman sighed.
“’Like they used to’? How was that, Jin?” Kuwabara asked, curious.
“Ah. The girls were jus’ tha’ - girls. None of tha’ ‘must be as strong as the lads crap’. Sweet, able to defend themselves, sure, but sweet an’ dependent.” Jin said, wistfully. Kurama chuckled.
“I’ve been around longer than you, Jin. I used to feel the same way. Best be careful - if you do join us in our hunt, you may just find there is appeal in the new ways of the female.” Kurama turned to Touya, who was fast asleep. The ice master looked tired beyond explanation. Kurama spoke again before Jin could respond.
“Hmm. I may have the herbs to relieve him of his illness, Jin. But preparing the cure will take time.” Jin nodded.
“There isn’t much room for ya to stay, but if ya wish to you can try.” he added, glancing at his guests.
“Thank you.” the group mumbled.
“Oh, uh, Jin? Does this mean you’ll help us get the girls?” Kuwabara inquired. Jin shrugged.
“They’ll be back at any time. We’ve already got ’em.”
“WHAT!?” Kuwabara and Yusuke shouted, waking Touya.
