Chapter 9: MidnightCravings
Hiei growled and lashed out at a nearby tree with his katana. The stupid old hag had volunteered him to be some pet, just a toy. What ever it was that the stupid girl did, it felt all funny, like his heart was pounding and his body was all warm. Hiei slashed at the thickest part of the tree with all his might until he noticed the sound of footsteps coming his way. He could feel his heart race and found himself cursing his own body for wanting it to be that damned Sayuri.
“Hiei. Come back.” Kurama's voice flooded Hiei's head. It was soft and methodic. It registered as something comforting to Hiei, who was trying to sort all the changes out. The Jaganshi continued slashing away at trees to take his anger out away from his friends. Kurama sat down on a stump of a tree that used to be there.
“I'm not going fox. Not while she's in there.” Hiei said, apprehension in his voice. The bond that connected them hadn't broken and Hiei was beginning to think it might never. Every time she was in the room or near him, he could feel the heavy weight of her heart, slowly beating. He wanted to rip it out and replace it with a lighter one. Probably one with fewer memories.
“Why? Because you care about her and you don't want to feel that?” Kurama snidely remarked. Hiei looked up to yell at the fox demon, but found that he was gone. The Jaganshi sighed and looked at the demented stump that was once a tree.
`Stupid onna, being pretty and being special. Stupid bond.' Hiei thought as he walked back towards the temple, where everyone had gathered for dinner. The thought of being around that girl made him sick in the stomach; the feeling of it hopping around bothered him the most.
“Hiei!” Botan smiled as she casually set dinner on the table. Hiei glared at the ferry woman and sat down, far away from Sayuri, who was engaged in a conversation with Kurama and Keiko. Dinner carried on and no one said a word about the “curse” or powers. Kurama and Genkai talked about the latest strings of robberies in the Makai while Yusuke and Kuwabara fought about an American sports team. In all, Hiei was positive that the dinner was too normal for him.
“Oi, Hiei, where you off to?” Yusuke asked as the Jaganshi got up from the table to leave. He wanted to preoccupy himself with more important things. Sayuri looked up at Hiei and smiled one of her sweet smiles, causing Hiei to become angry that he even came inside for dinner.
“None of your concern, detective.” Hiei said coldly as he walked out of the room to go and sit outside. Kurama sighed and went to get up, but noticed that Sayuri had already taken the chance to follow him.

“Hiei? Where are you?” Sayuri called for the Jagan master. Neither of them really had the chance to talk lately…Not that she was sure that he wanted to talk to her. He had been avoiding her like she was the plague.
“I'm not avoiding you…” Hiei grunted as he appeared from behind a tree. The closer the girl was, the easier it was for him to read her mind.
`Don't even have to use the Jagan anymore.' Hiei thought.
“I'd prefer if you didn't too.” Sayuri sighed. She sat down on what looked to be a new tree stump. Her thoughts were too jumbled for anyone to make real sense of them; which frustrated Hiei. Her body pulsed with anticipation and he could feel it in his chest.
`Stop it!' Hiei could feel himself scream inside. He wanted to just reach out and touch the girl to calm her down, to make her memories stop playing over and over in his head.
“You STOP!” Sayuri screamed out loud! Hiei appeared right in front of her as she sat. He brushed her hair away from her face and looked at her eyes, so dark and dangerous. She could feel him sway and she tried to pull it all back inside from him, but it was too much. Her body refused to move again, her mind playing all the tricks.
`Hiei, you have to pull away! Please!' Sayuri yelled in her head, hoping that the Jaganshi would still hear her. And he did, but he felt himself giving into what ever she was doing.

Genkai looked out the window and then got up slowly from the table. Kurama watched the old woman walk outside and follow Sayuri's track. He could feel something in the air, something pulling him close to where he knew Sayuri would be.
“Genkai- WAIT!” Kurama yelled after the woman. But she had a good idea of what was going on.

Hiei felt the girl pulling him close, not physically, but it was strong enough that she could have just tied him to her. Sayuri tried to wake herself up from the state she was in, knowing that she had no idea how to control the powers she had lurking inside her. Hiei's hand grabbed her face and she tried to pull back, remembering how Yukio used to grab her face before…
`NO!' Hiei yelled at himself, visions of Yukio flooding his head. The bond wouldn't dissolve and Hiei felt the fear that Sayuri was feeling. It was an odd feeling, him not being able to stop himself and being afraid of what he would do.
“Stop.” A velvet voice rumbled, low and methodic. Suddenly the bond was cut and Hiei could only feel himself. Sayuri pushed Hiei backwards and looked towards where the voice came from. It was the figure in black that she had been seeing in her dreams… it was him.
“Don't touch her.” Two voices melted together, one on the forest ground, the other old and rough. Genkai appeared by the confused Sayuri while Hiei growled that the girl had gotten a hold of him again. The figure in black laughed deeply, all feelings to happiness being sucked into him. Sayuri turned to Genkai who stood in front of her in a protective stance.
“Hiei, call Kurama, now.” Genkai ordered.
{Fox, now.}
{Already on my way, Hiei.}
The figure moved into the moonlight and Sayuri could make out a long scar across the man's face. The figure's black hair fell over his shoulders and his black cloak. An all black dress made him hard to see in the night, but Hiei had locked his eyes on the man and wasn't going to let him take the damn girl away. Not until he figured out how the man broke the bond so quickly.
“Go. Now.” Genkai told Sayuri while motioning towards Kurama who silently walked from behind a few trees. Sayuri turned her head and saw Kurama holding his hand out.
“Sayoko, it's time to go.” The figure said. Sayuri stopped and looked at the man. Her eyes widened and she looked back at Kurama, who looked desperate to protect the girl from something.
“I don't know any Sayoko.” Sayuri ran to Kurama and glanced over at Hiei who's hand was ready to un-do the bandages on his arm. Kurama grabbed Sayuri and held her tight until he saw the figure's face. It was pale and had a long scar from the top of his right eye brow to just below the left eye. It produced a worn look.
“Fox, get her out of here. Now.” Hiei looked at Sayuri and then at the fox. Both looked startled but Kurama seemed to have a lid on his emotions as always. Kurama backed up with Sayuri and once he was behind the darkness, they were gone.
“Samael, it's best that you leave. Unless you'd like to die right here.” Genkai taunted. Sayuri had enough pain; Genkai wasn't going to let some disturbing fallen angel make her life worse. Samael smirked and glared at Hiei.
“You won't be able to protect her, she's mine already- check her neck, you pathetic excuse for a demon. You're no better than that useless Yukio I hired.” Samael laughed maliciously and then his shadow disappeared. Hiei felt his body choke and stop in place.
`No. I don't feel anything for that stupid girl…But why does it hurt to hear those things?!' Hiei growled to himself. Genkai tapped him on the back, checking to see if the Forbidden Child was still breathing.
“She's going to be fine, stop the crying.” Genkai roused up the subject Hiei had been fighting with. Hiei glared at the old woman, pissed that she seemed to know just what TO say to piss anyone off. “If you don't believe me, go to her.”
“I'll do what I want!” Hiei mumbled and then disappeared, off to find some thing to take his anger out on.
