Part Seven

"I know you're awake, Kurama."

"You knew the second I awoke five minutes ago," Kurama accused. "So why bring it up now?"

"No reason, I guess," Hiei shrugged. He didn't admit to Kurama that he wanted to reminisce about the demon fox days.

"I noticed that you have control of your arms again," Kurama said. "How far has your feeling progressed? Do you think you could walk yet?"

Hiei shook his head. "I can feel my chest, but no further down than that."

"Let's check."

Kurama's arm emerged from under the jacket, plucked one of the flowers from their hideout wall, then disappeared again. Without moving his head from its resting place on his shoulder, Hiei could feel Kurama unfastening the front of his robe, his hand warm and smooth as it moved up his chest and under his cowl.

"Can you feel this?" Kurama asked.

Hiei felt a sharp prick from the stem of the flower on the side of his neck. "Yes."

"How about this?"

Kurama inched his testing of Hiei's numbness down from the neck and across his bare chest. When the flower brushed lightly against his nipples, Hiei inhaled sharply before confirming that he did, indeed, have feeling there. He watched the movement of Kurama's hand under the cloth as it progressed further down, but when he could no longer feel the prick of the flower below his rib cage, he closed his eyes and growled in frustration.

"No, damn it! I can't feel anything!"

"So you can't feel this?" Kurama asked calmly, ignoring Hiei's outburst.

Hiei looked down, but with the jacket's folds and bulges, he could no longer tell where Kurama was testing. "No!" he snapped.

"Well, I certainly feel something." Kurama reached for Hiei's hand to show him what he had found.

Hiei gasped as he realized where Kurama had placed his fingers. While pretending to continue his skin pricking, Kurama had efficiently unbuckled the belts on Hiei's pants. Even though he couldn't feel it, he was undeniably aroused; larger and harder, even, than he could remember. With the lack of sensory input from the skin, he wondered just how long it would stay that way.

Kurama guided Hiei's hand up and down the length of flesh. Although Hiei knew he was touching himself, without feeling, it was like he was doing it to someone else. The thought, incredibly, made his arousal even larger. He was almost glad that he couldn't feel it, because he knew how maddening it would be long for release and not be able to achieve it.

After a minute, Kurama brushed his hand away and drew the jacket up over his head. Hiei could feel the tickle of his long hair as it traveled down his chest, and wished with his entire being that he could feel what he knew Kurama was doing.

With closed eyes and focused concentration, Hiei was finally able to feel a pressure deep in his stomach that he knew was connected to Kurama's administrations. He imagined the pain and ecstacy that accompanied that pressure as he imagined that it was Yoko Kurama under the jacket instead of his human form. With a sudden, sharp pain that tore a gasp from Hiei's lips, the pressure in his stomach was released. The adreneline pulsing through him made his heart pound even as a pleasant lethargy spread across his body.

Soon, Kurama's head appeared from the bottom of the jacket. He ran his fingers through his disheveled hair as his tongue ran over his lips. The leaves tickled the bare skin on his back, giving him goosebumps up and down his arms. He opened his mouth to say something, but a faint rustling sound caught his attention.

"I believe we will be having visitors soon," he said

Hiei tensed, fearing the demons had returned, wise to their camoflage trickery. Quietly, Kurama shifted to sit next to Hiei and reached for the rose hidden in his hair as the footsteps grew louder and closer. Hiei's hand reached for the sword at his side, even though there was not enough room for him to remove it from its sheath.

"I know they're around here somewhere! Their spirit energy is real strong!"

"You'd better be right, Kuwabara!" they heard Yusuke shout. "I'm hot and tired of tramping through the jungle!"

"It's just a little forest, Yusuke," Botan twittered. "You really don't like nature, do you?"

"It'd be a lot better without all the trees and bugs and creepy crawly things!"

Hiei and Kurama both relaxed at the familiar voices. They looked at each other and made a silent pact to keep the feelings they had admitted that night and their actions this morning to themselves. Not that they were ashamed, but they didn't want anything endangering the rapoire their team had worked so hard to obtain.

"Hey, you guys!" Kuwabara yelled, now very close to their hiding spot. "This has got to be it! That bush is practically glowing from all the spirit energy!"

"Hello, Kuwabara," Kurama said calmly, looking up at the face that appeared in the small opening at the top of the cluster of bushes.

Kuwabara's eyes opened wide before he gave them a teasing grin. "I didn't interrupt anything now, did I?"

"Don't be an imbicile!" Hiei snapped. "So you found us, now get us out of here."

Kuwabara used his spirit sword to hack away at the branches, and soon they were both free of the leaves and flowers. Yusuke and Botan joined them as Kurama stood up and stretched his stiff muscles before bending to retrieve his jacket and belt. Hiei was relieved to see that the clever thief had managed to put his clothes in order without him even realizing it.

A quick explanation of Hiei's condition and Botan got to work with her healing powers. Within minutes, he was able to stand and work the rest of the soreness out of his muscles himself.

As they walked back out of the woods, Kuwabara looked over his shoulder at Kurama and Hiei. He leaned close to Yusuke and whispered, "That must've been hard on Kurama, being cooped up with Hiei like that for so long."

Yusuke also took a quick glance back at the two men. Hiei walked with his arms crossed and the same bored expression on his face he usually wore. Kurama had his hands in his pockets and seemed interested in all the greenery around them. They seemed to be as they always were, yet there was something different that Yusuke just couldn't pin down.

"That Kurama is sure a gentleman," Kuwabara continued. "Using his own coat to keep Hiei warm like that when he could have froze himself ... that's the sign of a true man's man!"

Something clicked in Yusuke's mind as he caught sight of Kurama's tongue darting across the corner of his mouth. "You know, Kuwabara, I've got to admit," he said, barely containing a laugh, "I think you're right!"
