A missing warmth pulled Yusuke from strange dreams of Keiko chasing him with Kuwabara's reiken. He opened his eyes, taking in that he was in Kurama's room. At first, he couldn't remember why, though the memories of the game that led to sex that then led to the conversation in the shower. He glanced to the side where he remembered the kitsune going to sleep only to find the source of the missing warmth that woke him. He felt movement on his other. Smiling, he turned to face Hiei, “Good morning.”
“Morning,” the fire demon returned. “Kurama went to make breakfast,” he added in answer to the unasked question.
Yusuke smiled again, pulling Hiei closer for a kiss. After a moment, he pulled back, his expression serious. “What now?” he asked.
Hiei frowned, “Kurama is better with words than I am.”
“What is it you want, Hiei? Kurama did the talking, but I want to hear from you what you want, please.”
Hiei looked at the boy, thinking, turning things over, finally deciding on the most direct answer, “I want you and Kurama.”
“That's good to hear,” Kurama spoke up from the door. “Breakfast is ready when you are.” The red head leaned against the door frame, watching the two scramble out from under the blankets. He smiled as Hiei pulled Yusuke down to kiss him before walking over to the closet to pull out a pair of robes and handing one to the taller boy.
Yusuke pulled on the robe as he walked over to Kurama, leaving it untied as he wrapped his arms around the pajama clad red head and rested his forehead against the other's shoulder. “Missed you when I woke up,” he murmured.
Kurama wrapped his arms around the tantei, laughing, “Well, someone has to feed you.”
Yusuke brought his lips to the kitsune's neck, “You didn't have to get out of bed to do that.”
Still laughing, “Food first, and talk, then we can have fun.”
Yusuke pulled back, “Talking isn't going to be fun. I don't think they're going to take it well, no matter how we tell them.”
Kurama brought a hand up to the boy's cheek, “We'll figure out something, Yusuke.” With a kiss he released the brown haired boy, “We'll figure out something, but first, let's eat.” An answering grumble from Yusuke's stomach brought another laugh from the red head as he led them down the stairs and into the kitchen. On the table, miso, rice, and eggs were steaming, waiting to be devoured.
Yusuke wrapped his arms around the kitsune, “You're gonna spoil me, fox-boy.”
Kurama regarded the food on the table. He had only prepared what he normally had for breakfast. “Spoil you?”
Yusuke moved to take one of the chairs, “Yeah, this is way better than instant ramen!”
Kurama laughed as he took his seat, “I guess we'll have to have you over more often, then, if this is all it takes to make you happy.”
This reminded Yusuke, “Say, when is your mother coming home?”
“Tomorrow afternoon,” the red head answered as he served the food. Turning the conversation to more urgent matters, “Who do you want to talk to first? And what about your mother?”
“My mother won't care. I doubt she'll even notice.” Yusuke sighed. “I think Kuwabara's gonna be a bit easier than Keiko, so maybe him first?” Yusuke began gnawing on his lower lip, beginning to feel nervous.
“We don't have to tell anyone, if you don't want to. Or we can wait,” Kurama said as he covered Yusuke's hand with his own.
“No,” Yusuke stated firmly. “I told you, I live how I want, I don't hide things. I understand you're trying to make things easier, `rama, but I'd rather be out in the open. At least with people who are my friends.”
“How do you think he's going to react?” the red head asked, relieved that Yusuke hadn't changed his mind. Keeping things open between their other team member would keep the trust there they needed to continue working as a team.
Yusuke sighed, “He'll freak. But I think he'll get over it eventually and be okay with us. I think the thing that's gonna be the hardest for him is that I'm not with Keiko, but with you two.” Another sigh, “Keiko's another story all together. I think she may expect us to `live happily ever after' together. I'm not sure how she'll react.”
“Okay, we'll talk to Kuwabara first. How do you want to tell him?” Kurama continued to hold the tantei's hand as he worked through the difficult process of figuring out how to reveal to his best friends he was in a relationship that no one had seen coming.
“Well, I think we skip the part about the game. That would weird him a bit more than needed. I guess,” he took a deep breath, “I guess we tell him that we…that we decided we liked each other and wanted to go out.” He frowned at the cooling food before him. “No, that's not quite right.” He ran his free hand through his hair, “We have to tell him the truth, all of it, cause he'll figure it out if we don't and he'll get upset at us. It's better that he freak out all at once and get over it than find things out progressively.”
Kurama rested his cheek on his free hand, considering the dark haired boy, “So, we tell him I invited you over to play a game with Hiei and me and it went farther than we anticipated. That because of that, we've decided to see how a relationship would work.”
“Yeah, that basically, but with a few more details, but not all of them,” Yusuke blushed slightly.
“And Keiko?”
Yusuke's frown deepened, “I almost want to skip telling her, but that wouldn't be fair to anyone, nor would it be right. I guess the same approach would be the best idea.”
Hiei finally spoke, “Eat, your food is getting cold.” He understood the need to get things straightened out, but there was nothing they could do about how the other two would react.
Yusuke snapped a mock salute. “Yes, sir!” he laughed. Taking a bite, he made a face, “it's cold!”
“It was warm when we sat down,” the koorime countered. “You two talk too much.” He picked up Yusuke's and Kurama's miso bowls and placed them in the microwave to warm again.
Kurama smiled at the black haired demon, “Thank you, Hiei.”
“Someone has to take care of you, or you'd talk to death,” he returned, a mock scowl on his face.
“And you do such a good job of it, Hiei,” the kitsune purred back, his voice clearly insinuating much more than warming soup.
Hiei walked over to the red head, pulling him into a possessive kiss. “And don't you forget it!” his voice returning the insinuation as he returned to retrieve the now warm miso.
Yusuke watched the exchange with mixed feelings. He was very happy to part of the group, a little surprised at Hiei's possessiveness and playfulness, and a little wistful for similar contact. His eyes followed the koorime as he placed the bowls before Kurama and him. His eyes widened slightly as Hiei pulled him into a kiss. He felt almost as if the petite demon were marking his territory and melted into the kiss, his feeling of security returning. Hiei returned to his seat, folding his arms on the table, “Now, eat. We'll call the baka after you two finish and we're dressed.”
“I don't have anything to wear other than was I was wearing last night,” Yusuke pointed out, picking up his spoon and starting on his miso. “I wasn't expecting…well…” he blushed.
“I have a shirt you can borrow, but I don't think my pants'll fit you,” Kurama offered, also beginning to eat his soup.
Yusuke continued to blush, “'kay, thanks.”
The rest of the meal was eaten in silence, Hiei watching Yusuke as his thoughts played over his face. He glanced over to Kurama and noticed the kitsune was watching the looks of anguish and determination crossing their new lover's face. The red head turned to look at the fire demon and shrugged. There wasn't anything else he could think of to ease the boy's suffering. He hoped that once Kuwabara and Keiko were told things would rest easier in Yusuke's mind. Neither demon wanted the tantei to regret being with them.
Yusuke pushed back from the table, a look of consternation on his face, “What about Genkai?”
“She already knows about us and that we were interested in you,” Kurama answered.
“And she's okay with it?”
“She encouraged us to see if you were willing,” the kitsune smiled. “Though, the manner of seeing was up to us. So, I would say she's okay with it.”
“Well, I guess we'll have to go thank the granny, then, won't we?” Yusuke felt better that at least one person who mattered in his life other than the demons was going to be accepting of their relationship.
Kurama laughed, “But first, get dressed.” He began clearing the table. Yusuke and Hiei both cleared their places and helped clean up the kitchen before heading back upstairs to the red head's room.
Dressing was a relatively simple procedure, Yusuke too nervous about the upcoming revelations to do much flirting, though he wanted to. Kurama selected a simple white button up shirt for the tantei to wear, not having of his preferred t-shirts. As the boy buttoned on the shirt, Kurama eyed him critically. “That looks good on you, Yusuke.”
Yusuke blushed, “Thanks.” With a sigh, he continued, “Let's go call Kuwabara and see when he's available.”
Kurama folded the dark haired boy into a hug, “It'll be alright, Yusuke.”
Hiei walked up behind Yusuke and wrapped his arms around the detective as well, silently adding his support.
Yusuke sighed, “I just wish it were over with already.” The three stood there a while longer before Yusuke sighed again, “Well, let's get the phone calls made.”
The phone at Kuwabara's house rang only once before the orange haired boy picked it up, “Moshi moshi.”
Yusuke took a deep breath, “Oi, Kuwabara, I was wondering if you had time today to talk?”
There was a pause on the line where Yusuke could almost hear the other boy pull the phone from his ear and look at it strangely before putting it back to his ear. “Yusuke?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“Just checking. The voice sounded like you, but you wanna talk?”
“Yeah, I wanna talk. When's good for you?”
“Well, I have to take Eikichi to the vet this morning. How about lunch?”
“Lunch is good. We could meet somewhere?” Yusuke began chewing his lip, hoping the other boy wouldn't suggest Keiko's parent's restaurant.
“There's this new place by the park. What used to be the sushi stand that made everyone sick, y'know?”
Relieved, Yusuke responded, “Yeah, that sounds good. See ya there about noon, yeah?”
“Okay, see ya.” Kuwabara hung up.
Yusuke depressed the button on the phone base. “One down, one to go,” he gusted. He turned and smiled as Kurama rubbed his back. Turning back to the phone, he dialed Keiko's phone.
“Moshi moshi?” she answered on the second ring.
“Mornin' Keiko. I was wondering if you had some time to talk today?” Again, he could almost hear the strange look at the phone.
“Yusuke?” she asked, in the same bemused tone Kuwabara had used.
With a feeling of déjà vu, Yusuke answered, “Yeah.”
“Just checking,” she stopped. “I have to work lunch shift. How about dinner?”
“Okay, that works. Where do you want to go?”
“There's that new place by the park,” she answered.
Déjà vu returned, “Okay, I'll meet you there at six, then?”
“Okay, I'll see you later, Yusuke.”
Yusuke returned the phone to its cradle, laughing a bit. In answer to Kurama's hummed question, he said, “They both want to meet at the same place. Lunch with Kuwabara, dinner with Keiko.” He sighed and sat on the couch next to Hiei, leaning his head on the koorime's shoulder. “What a day,” he sighed.
