Ch.1

Agony

It's funny how you remember all the things he did to make you happy when he's gone. His smile, his laugh, everything that made him special to you. And when you try to forget about him, there's always something there to remind you of him.

Kurama sighed as he leered at Hiei's thoughtful face. Koenma had called them for another meeting. Kurama of course tried to pay attention to what Koenma was saying, but was constantly distracted by Hiei. I wish he would at least just look at me. Let me know that he cares just a little bit, even if it's resentment. But Hiei continued to ignore Kurama's gaze and Kurama continued to stare until his attention was broken.
“Kurama, Kurama!”
“Huh?”
“Did you hear what I was saying?” Koenma asked
“Iie, gomen. My thoughts were somewhat occupied.”
“With what might I ask?” Koenma inquired
Kurama could see Hiei's face tighten, “Nothing in particular really.” He answered
“Very well then.” Koenma dropped the subject but retained his suspicion, “Like I was saying, there's a youkai on the loose that's on a murderous rampage. I want you to find this thing and dispose of it.”
“Don't you have any more information than that?” Yusuke asked
“All we know is that it's fast and very strong.”
“And you guys are left to decide the fate of souls.” Yusuke jeered
“Well let's get moving, I'm ready to take this thing on!” Kuwabara shouted

The team departed after Yusuke instructed them to take different sides of the city. Before they dispatched Kurama quickly caught up to Hiei.
“What do you want?”
“I just want to talk. Listen...”
“We don't have time for petty conversation, we're on a mission.”
“But...”
Before Kurama could say another word Hiei was gone.
“Shimatta!” Kurama hissed

Kurama had scoured his part of the city and came up with nothing, not a trace. The funny thing was that most of the murders occurred in his assigned part of the city.

“This is ridiculous!” Kurama plopped down on his bed and tucked his hand underneath his chin, “I might as well go to bed, and maybe Koenma will have some more information tomorrow.” Kurama huffed out a breath and went into his bathroom to shower. When Kurama came out he found that his window was open.
“Hiei?” Kurama called
“Here kitsune.”
Kurama whirled around to become face to face with Hiei.
“You said you wanted to talk.” Hiei walked over by Kurama's bed and sat down.
That small motion reminded Kurama of the many nights of passion he and Hiei had shared. All the sudden Kurama remembered he was still in a towel and still wet.
“Uh, just a moment, I need to get dressed.”
Kurama reached into his drawer of pajamas and headed toward the bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
“To get dressed.”
“Just do it here, it's not like I haven't seen it all before.”
Kurama blushed and slowly unwrapped the towel from his waist and began to dress. “I wanted to talk about uh, well, us.”
“Us?”
“Yes, the other night, it was a miss understanding. What I meant to say was...”
“Forget about it, it's over.” Hiei glared emphasizing the word over, "I have to go.”
“But...”
“Sayonara.”
And just like before, he had flitted out the window and was gone. Kurama sighed and climbed into bed. I wish I had never opened my big mouth.

Several Nights Before

Kurama lay on Hiei's chest trying to catch his breath. Their lovemaking had been intense and hot.
“You surprised me Kitsune.”
“And you surprised me. I didn't know you could ignite me with just a touch of your finger.”
“Hn.”
Kurama sat up and looked down on Hiei, “Why do you have to be so nonchalant?”
“Hn.”
“Stop that.” Kurama giggled, “Talk to me.”
“Why do you always want to talk?” Why can't we just lay here in silence? You're like a female.”
“Female!”
“Yes.”
“So you want me to be manlier.” Kurama deepened his voice
“Iie you baka, I want you to shut up.”
Kurama winced, although he knew that was just Hiei's demeanor, it still hurt. “Maybe I should just get a girlfriend, then I can do all the talking I want with her and lay here and shut up with you.”
Hiei glared and sat up almost pushing Kurama out of the bed, " Is that what you'd like, a worthless ningen girlfriend?"
"Well I certainly wouldn't have to hide her from my mother."
"Fine then, go find your ningen girlfriend."
"Hiei..."
"That would be like you, fickle youko!"
"But..."
And like lightening Hiei had gotten up from the bed, grabbed his clothes, and was out of the window.
"Why does he have to cut me off like that all time?" Kurama shook his head, “And somewhere out there there's a small naked hi youkai.”

Present

Kurama now lay in bed thinking about that night. He had assumed that Hiei would come back to him the next night. But instead, Hiei began to avoid and ignore Kurama. Kurama didn't think Hiei would take it so seriously, and it was just a joke, quiet silly in fact. But now he was alone and he was feeling an ache in his chest, an ache that missed Hiei desperately. Kurama closed his eyes and hoped for a better day tomorrow.

The Next Day

Kurama woke that morning like every weekday and performed his morning routine to go to school. Getsuyoobi, how I hate Getsuyoobi. Kurama stared back at his reflection as he brushed his teeth. Tousled red hair, weary green eyes, yep, that was Kurama in the morning. But he knew once he washed his face and freshened up he'd be the handsome red head that everyone desired. And oh how he loved to be desired. Kurama smiled wickedly at himself and continued to brush his teeth.

The day had been going like any other day until someone walked in the classroom. It was a girl, a beautiful one at that. She was about five one, brown eyes and black hair. Her skin beamed as a creamy mocha that you could not only see, but also almost taste. “Class, this is Thomas Ria, she's an exchange student from America.”
At that moment many of the students began to mumble in excitement. The school had never had an exchange student from America before.
“Konnichi wa.” The girl smiled
“Thomas-san you may sit by Matsu-san, he's in the back of the room in the corner.”
The girl nodded and preceded to the back with everyone's eyes following her.

After school Kurama walked to the park near his home. He went here anytime he felt sad or just wanted some time to himself. There was something abut having nature all around him that seemed to calm him down. As he approached his normal spot his attention was stolen by a scream coming from behind him. Kurama turned around just in time to dodge a renegade bike with a helpless girl holding on for dear life. Kurama immediately took after her running as fast as he could. With in seconds he caught up to the bike and grabbed the back of the seat slowing the bike down some. Unfortunately Kurama's efforts were in vain, the bike swerved to the left and hit a bench sending both the girl and Kurama flying. Kurama landed on the girl who let out a yelp as soon as he came down.
“Gomen nasai.” Kurama quickly helped the girl up and realized it was the exchange student
“Iie, you tried to help me.”
Her voice is so soft. “I guess I wasn't much help though. Your bike looks totaled.”
“Oh well, I could probably get it fixed somewhere.” She smiled, “Hey, don't I have a class with you?”
“Hai, English.” Ria laughed at his answer.
“What's so funny?”
“We take English together, and I'm from America. It's kind of ironic, ne?”
“Hai. May I walk you home?”
“Daijoubu, it's not like I'm riding anywhere.” She laughed

Author's Note: I know, I know, most of you are like. “She's the demon!” Well, I wouldn't accuse her just yet, and I wouldn't write her off the suspect list either. I'm just writing this without any plan, whatever happens, happens. So please R&R.
