Distress
“And what exactly has happened to you kitsune?”
“I can't make any conclusions yet, but I need to see Genkai.”
“What can Genkai do?”
“She knows quite a bit about what goes on in the ningenkai, she would know Ria's whole story and could help me get behind Ria's motivation to deceive me.”
“Do you need me to take you?”
“Yes, I would appreciate it very much.”
Hiei nodded and proceeded to help Kurama get dressed.
Ria's Home
Ria sobbed in her garden, her head between her legs and her chest heavy with heartache.
“Beloved, do you wish me to kill the fiend?” Masashi stood in the corner of the garden
“Please just leave me alone.”
“If you're not planning on taking revenge, then I advice we go back to America. There's nothing her for you in Japan.”
“No!” Ria's head shot up, “I do plan to do something. He will not get away with this treachery!”
Masashi went to one knee his head bowed, “Command me my love, I will do anything you wish.”
Ria shook her head, “No, I will deal with this personally. Kurama will pay!”
Genkai's Home
“I'm glad you came to me first Kurama.” The old woman poured him some tea
“Do you know anything about her?”
“I've heard things about this girl.”
“What can you tell me?”
“Well, you've told me the story that I've heard before. Our information is much the same. I have never heard of her stealing ki or doing any harm to anyone without cause.”
“So why would she do this to me?”
“Maybe she's dying and needs Kurama's ki to heal her.” Hiei offered
“That might be the case Hiei.” Genkai nodded, “But we don't know for sure. The best thing to do now is confront her. With Hiei with you, I doubt she could cause you any harm.”
Kurama nodded “Arigatou Genkai-sama.”
Kurama stood and faltered falling to his knees.
“Kurama, are you alright?” Hiei became instantly worried
“It seems that I've gotten weaker.”
“She might still be drawing you ki.” Hiei helped Kurama up
“It's not just my ki; it feels like my body is failing me as well. We better get to her quickly and stop this.”
As Kurama and Hiei left Genkai's home Hiei was deep in his thoughts. Kurama isn't getting better at all. I shouldn't have trusted that bastard Masashi
Ria's Home
Ria had been mixing herbs for the past half hour. She knew what she was going to do. She's offer this “soup” as a goodbye gift and tell him she was going back to America. He would ingest the poison, and hopefully so would his love, and they would die an agonizing death. Of course she would be on her way to another city by then. Ria still loved Kurama and wouldn't be able to watch him die painfully. But she also knew in her heart that it had to be done.
Ria poured her concocting into a boiling pot of broth and put on some sad music. She sighed as tears fell from her cheeks into the soup. Look at what you're making me do Kurama. I gave you everything! I hate you so much…and I love you. That is why you must pay for your crime. Masashi watched from the corner of the kitchen in bliss. Soon the meddling youko would be out of the way and he would have his love back.
His eyes scanned over her form as he heard the doorbell ring. They knew who was there. Masahi knew the reason for their visit, but Ria was oblivious.
“I'll answer the door my lady, you might want to prepare their last meal.” Masahi sauntered off.
Ria nodded as she began to spoon the mixture into three bowls. This is even better, he'll definitely eat the soup with no suspicion what so ever.
Moments later Masahi returned with Kurama and Hiei. Ria set the bowels on the table.
“Will you join me?”
“I regret the offer Ria.” Kurama sighed
Ria's eyes raked over his sickened condition, “You shouldn't be out of bed if you're still sick Kurama.”
“You seem very calm for a girl who was devastated not too long ago.” Hiei eyed suspiciously
“It wouldn't be the first time I was deceived by a man.” Ria looked toward Masahi
“You've been crying.” Kurama stated as she sat down at the table.
“Hai, wouldn't any girl?”
Hiei sat on the counter keeping an eye on both Masashi and Ria.
“What do you want anyway?” Ria stirred the soup
“You speak of deception as if you've done nothing wrong.” Kurama's eyes became slits
“Because I haven't!” Ria slammed the spoon the table
“I want to know the truth Ria!” Kurama's temper flared
“I have never lied to you youko! It is you who has deceived me!” She stood her ki rising
“I wouldn't try anything if I were you.” Hiei's voice became threatening
“The same to you.” Masashi pointed his finger to Hiei his ki rising
In an instant Hiei disappeared and cut Masashi's finger, then reappeared on the counter.
“Now you know why you shouldn't point your finger.” A small evil smile slid over Hiei's mouth as Masashi grunted in pain, taking hold of his hand.
Ria's eyes became wide as she threw her soup at Hiei, “Get out!”
Hiei easily cut through the bowl and stood. “I don't think so.”
“What have you done to me?!” Kurama looked up at Ria
“How dare you!”
“My mistress has done nothing.” Masashi stood his finger growing back, “You should turn to your lover for answers to your illness. Hiei was the one who poisoned you.”
Kurama turned to Hiei in surprise, “Hiei.” His eyes instantly watered
“What did you think was in the potion you drank?” Masashi laughed
Kurama turned to Masashi, “How do you know about that.”
“Because it was I the one who supplied the poison.”
“Masashi!” Tears ran down Ria eyes, “You caused all this treachery.
“No my love, I tried to save you from the youko's intentions. But I was too late. Gomen nasai.”
Ria approached Masashi and slapped him firmly across the face, “How dare you go behind my back and…do this!” She screamed
“I am only partially to blame. Hiei administered the poison to Kurama.”
“Only under the pretense that it would break them apart!” Hiei shouted
“Hiei…why?” Tears fell from Kurama's eyes
“Jealousy.” Hiei lowered his head, “You belong to me kitsune, not some plant.” Hiei knelt and took Kurama's hand
Kurama snatched his hand back, “How could you do this to me Hiei? I trusted you, not only as a friend…but a lover.”
“You lied to me Masashi. You told me that it would plant them against each other and break them apart. You never said it would kill Kurama!”
“I did not lie; did it not set them against each other? Are they together now? Will they ever be?” A cruel smile crossed his face.
Hiei drew his sword, “Shinei!”
Suddenly Hiei felt his body being ripped into and slammed into the wall behind him. He looked at Kurama with his rose whip in his hand. Kurama immediately dropped to his knees with Ria coming to his side.
“Kurama.” Ria turned to Masashi, “How do I cure him? Tell me now!”
“He'll need your blood, and not just a drop…but the last drop. The last spark of life in your blood will heal him.”
Ria turned to Kurama and brushed the hair out of his eyes. “Talk about the true test of love.” Tears welled up in her eyes
“I will not take your life Ria.”
“Then I shall take my own.” Ria stood walked to Hiei, “Give me your sword.”
Hiei shook his head, “How do we know this isn't another one of Masashi's lies?”
Ria looked to Masashi, “Tell me the truth Masashi…don't you hurt me again.”
Masashi sighed, “I didn't think you'd willingly give you life for his.” He pointed at Kurama angrily, “I will not reveal the cure.”
“Then I shall torture you till you do.” Hiei approached him
“Do you think Kurama will live that long?” Masashi arched an eyebrow
“I'll make a bargain with you then.” Ria approached Masashi
“Iie.” Kurama whispered blood beginning to drip from his mouth
“Kurama.” Hiei knelt beside him, “What's happening to him.”
“The poison is in its final stage. It's starting to eat away at his body now that the ki is gone. You shouldn't have attacked Hiei.”
“Masashi,” Ria whispered, “If you tell us what the cure is…I'll stay with you, forever.”
Masashi eyed her suspiciously, “And go back to America?”
“Hai.”
He nodded, “The solution was always there. You could have healed him anytime.”
“Stop prattling and give us the cure you arrogant bastard.” Hiei gritted
“Your ki will heal him my love.” Masashi ran his fingers through her hair
Ria nodded and knelt before Kurama placing her hands on his cheeks. Her body glowed with ki as she began to the transfer. Kurama felt the poison evaporating and healing taking place. Ria took her hands away and opened her eyes to a refreshed Kurama. Kurama, Hiei, and Ria stood looking towards Masashi.
“And now for my reward.” Masashi sauntered toward Ria
Ria nodded, and with speed that no one knew she had, she stole Hiei's sword and impaled Masashi. “You have been rewarded my love.”
Masashi groan, “You know this won't kill me.”
“Hai, but my blood on the sword will.”
Masashi looked down and saw her blood laced on the sword, and then his eyes ventured to her cut hand. “It seems you were taught too well my love.”
Masashi fell to one knee as Ria extracted the sword, “Don't worry, I keep my word unlike you.”
Masashi looked at Ria confused. Ria flipped the sword and impaled herself.
“Ria!” Kurama took her hands as she sank to the floor. “Don't be sad love, but don't eat that soup.” She giggled, “I was going to poison you.”
Kurama shook his head and giggled as tears fell from his eyes once more.
Masashi fell over dead as the poison consumed his body till there was nothing but flower petals.
Ria looked into Kurama's eyes, “I have a parting gift.”
“Iie, don't die, onegai.”
“As long as I am planted in your heart, I will never die.” She smiled as her body wilted like a flower
Kurama and Hiei watched as Ria's body shriveled up into a tiny seed. Kurama picked the seed up. I wonder if I plant this, will you come back to me?
“Kurama?” Hiei placed his hand on Kurama's shoulder
“It would be wise for you to keep your distance Hiei.” Kurama stood and started toward the garden
“But what about us?”
“I don't know. I love you Hiei, but I can never forgive you for this.”
“So you would rather be with her?” Hiei lowered his head
“I wish I could have had you both.” Kurama sighed, “If you want to repent, you may help me plant this seed tomorrow. But I will morn for Ria today.”
“I will.” Hiei nodded walked toward the front door to leave
Kurama entered the garden and looked at the spot where he and Ria had planted their rose.
“I'll take our rose and plant you beside it in my own garden.” Kurama placed the seed safely in his pocket and began to dig up the seed of their love.
