Suffering
The next morning Kurama woke to the sound of his mother's voice.
“Okaasan?”
“Hai.”
“Where is Hiei?”
“He left right after he brought you home. How are you feeling?”
Kurama rubbed his head, “Where is Ria?”
“She went home last night as well.”
Kurama sighed and ran his hand through his hair. There was so much going through his mind. How could she do this to me? Why would she do this to me? I love her…but what am I going to do now? He knew he had to clear his mind, the first thing was to get well again, and then he would deal with Ria.
Kurama sat up slowly, still feeling a bit weak from the “freedom” Hiei had given him in the flask. I wonder what was in there. I've never heard of any potion that takes away illusions and weakens you at the same time. Or maybe I've been weak and didn't know it. He scratched his head; all this was too much right now. He lay down and looked at the ceiling. All I need is more sleep.
Kurama awoke to a kiss on the cheek. His eyes open to sight of Ria. He was instantly happy until the memory of yesterday hit him. He frowned slightly but kept quiet.
“Still not well?” Ria took the seat by his bed once more. “I've brought some herbs that will help you to recover quicker.”
Kurama sat up, “I don't need your herbs.” He said a little too harshly
Ria's eyes widen, “Dooshitano, why are you mad at me?”
“Where is my mother?”
“She went to the market to get dinner. Tell me why you're angry with me.”
Kurama wanted to leap from his bed, grab her, and shake her till she spilled all the answers he needed from her gorgeous lips. But instead he stayed silent.
“If I had known you'd be so cranky when sick, I'd brought you chocolate.” She smiled sweetly trying to get him to laugh
“The last thing I need is anything else from you.”
That comment struck deep in Ria's heart. She couldn't believe her ears. Why is he being so mean to me? “Kurama…”
“Leave.”
“Nani?”
“Now! Get out!”
“But…what did I…”
“Just leave, I never want…”
His words trailed off, he couldn't finish it. He loved her too much. And at the same time he loathed her for taking advantage of him. He could see the tears well up in her eyes as she ran out of the room and from his house. Kurama shook his head and looked at himself in the mirror. What did I just do? What solid proof did I have? What's wrong with me?
Hiei sat snug in the tree. He was quite happy with the results of the little drug Masahi had given him. But something still lingered in his thoughts. Was it the drug that set Kurama against her or himself? Masashi hadn't told him that Kurama would get sick. But either way, things had turned out to his liking.
At Ria's Home
Ria had raced home and flung herself on the bed. Why is he doing this to me? I thought he loved me, he said he loved me! Tears gushed from her eyes as she beat the pillow pretending it was Kurama. How could you just break my heart Kurama, why?!
“My dear, don't take out your frustrations on that inanimate object.” A deep voice sighed
“Leave me be Masashi. You're the last person I want to see now.”
“Actually I believe that youko is the last person you'd want to see.”
Ria turned to him angrily, “What do you know about it anyway?! Are you spying on me again?!” She rose from her bed and walked toward Masashi.
“I know that giving your virginity to that youko was foolish.”
“Fiend!” Ria reached out to slap him but only felt air
“His tale is well known love.”
Ria whirled around to find him sitting at her desk. “Don't call me that!”
“Why? I am the only one who truly loves you anyway. He's a fickle kitsune, jumping from lover to lover.”
“Don't talk about him like you know him.”
“I know him better than you do. You fulfilled all the womanly needs he craved and now he'll run back to his…beloved hi youkai.”
“What?”
“Hiei, his previous lover.”
“You lie.”
Masashi stood with anger lacing his features. “I know the little youkai personally. He told me the whole story about how Kurama wanted to experience a fresh female. Now that he has, he wants nothing to do with you. I guess he prefers men.”
“Shut up!” Ria shot a ki ball in Masashi's direction only to hit the wall
She felt Masashi's arms encircle her. She fought him for the first few moments and eventually relaxed into his embrace.
“What I tell you is truth. And if you do not believe me, I advice you find out for yourself. Confront Kurama, that is if he'll look at you.”
“He's just not feeling well, that's all.”
“Don't fool yourself! Go and see him, I bet that youkai is with him now.”
Masashi released Ria and disappeared. Should I listen to Masashi? What if he's telling the truth? But maybe he's just lying to me again. I have to know! In no time at all Ria found herself walking back in the direction of Kurama's house. She was going to find out exactly what's going on.
Kurama's Home
Shiori had returned and made Kurama soup, shortly after she had left his room Hiei decided to come in.
“How are you feeling youko?”
“What did you do to me Hiei.”
“All I did was remove all doubt.”
“That drink you gave me did something to me.”
“It did what it was supposed to do.”
“Weaken me, set me against Ria?”
“No you baka.”
“I've had a long time to sit here and think about it.”
“Well you're obviously not thinking clearly.” Hiei sat next to Kurama on his bed “Eat your soup baka.”
“Stop calling me that.”
“Then don't act like one.”
Kurama looked into Hiei's eyes and no longer found the disgust that had once been set there. He saw sincerity and something else…maybe love. Maybe I didn't give us enough time to recover. He was mad at me and all I did was rush into another relationship. Kurama let his gaze drop to his lap.
“I've missed you Hiei.” Kurama whispered
Hiei nodded, “And I've missed you kitsune.”
Kurama looked up to find Hiei's face close to his own. The moment felt just right, like fate. Their lips found each other and caressed. Hiei held Kurama's face in his hands letting his tongue dart quickly in and out of the youko's mouth. Finally their kiss broke and all they could do was look at each other. Kurama smiled and caressed Hiei's cheek.
A knock at the door startled them both. The last thing Kurama needed was his mother finding out that his friendship with Hiei was a little more intimate then he told her.
“Come in.”
Ria opened the door slowly and was astonished by the sight. ”Kurama…”
“Ria? What are you doing here?”
Tears immediately sprung from her eyes “So it's true.”
“What's true.” Kurama looked at her curiously
“You used me!”
“Nani!”
“Masashi told me you were fickle…that you would…that you were with…”
Ria ran from the room crying and both Hiei and Kurama could hear Shiori calling after the distraught girl. Moments later Kurama's mother appeared in his room.
“What happened? Why was Ria crying?”
Kurama shook his head, “I believe we've had a falling out Okaasan.”
“A falling out?”
“Hai.”
“Why?”
“It's a long story Okaasan and I'm not feeling well.”
“Alright Shuuichi, but I'm expecting you to tell me later.”
Kurama nodded and lay back on his pillow.
“Where did you come from Hiei?”
Hiei pointed to window, “I came to see if he was getting better.”
Shiori shook her head. “You know that's dangerous, not to mention rude. Next time please use he door.”
“Gomen, I will.” Hiei nodded
“What are we going to do about Ria?” Kurama asked
“You already know what I'm going to do.” Hiei stood
“Don't hurt her Hiei.”
“Don't worry baka; I will speak with Yuusuke about this.”
Kurama shook his head, “Iie, as soon as I regain my strength I'll deal with her.”
Hiei shook his head. “Then why did you ask me that stupid question.”
“Because something just occurred to me.”
