Chapter 15: An End To It All

 

 

 

Satu boarded herself in her room, refusing contact with anyone. She sat on the bed and covered the window with bed sheets. Lucky for her the window wouldn't budge so she didn't worry about a cranky youkai trying to pester her with his questions. The room was dark and she sat in the middle, unsure of where to go.

 

{I feel like if I move I'm not sure what will happen. I don't belong anywhere… so how can I move?! I can't…}

 

The stillness of the room provided her comfort when she was awake. When she slept she felt at odds with the scenes in her dreams.

 

“SATU! OI! OPEN UP!” Yusuke banged on the door twice a day, before breakfast and before dinner. Satu knew that everyone was worried, knew that she had people waiting for her usual cheerful self, but she just didn't want to leave yet. Wasn't ready to.

 

“Satu-sama, uhm… can you let me in?” Yukina called from the other side of the door four days after Satu had locked herself in. Satu used her telekinesis to move the furniture and allow the Koorime in. As soon as the girl was in, Satu put everything back in its place.

 

“Yes Yukina?” Satu looked at the girl, who was nervous and still slightly worried.

 

“Hitomi-sama wanted to let you know that she is going back to Heaven. She wanted you to know that she will be there and waiting for you. In case… you decide… what ever it is…” Yukina fumbled her words, trying not to offend Satu. Satu nodded and sighed.

 

“Thank you Yukina.” Satu said.

 

“Uhm.. Satu-sama?” Yukina asked, her voice a tad more adventurous.

 

“Yes?” Satu replied.

 

“Why would you want to give up your powers?” Satu sat for a moment and then looked at Yukina. Out of no where tears started to flow from her eyes. There were no words, just a long line of pain in the form of warm tears. Yukina kneeled down and cradled the angel in her eyes.

 

“No one wanted me!” Satu cried.

 

“We do. Satu-sama. We want you, now.” Yukina said softly and sweetly. Satu cried and held on to Yukina's kimono, feeling the silky feeling of it under her finger tips.

 

“But what if you don't want me in a while?! Reikai, Ningenkai, and the Makai?! I have no where to go Yukina!” Satu said seriously, looking into those familiar red eyes that reminded her that she was missing someone terribly.

 

“We will always want you. Onii-san wants you. He's been angry and picking fights with everyone because he doesn't know what you are doing. Please Satu-sama, come out and talk with us.” Yukina begged. Satu breathed in deeply, taking in the pleasant smell of fresh air that Yukina had brought with her. Slowly Satu waved her hand in front of the window and opened it, allowing all the fresh air to rush in. The sun felt good against Satu's skin.

 

“Okay. I think I've been depressed enough.” Satu smiled lightly. Yukina helped the angel up and dragged her to the bath, where she sat and let herself sleep in the open sunlight…

 

“Satu?...Satu?...Can you hear me?” A voice called out from the darkness.

Satu looked for some kind of light, but there wasn't any.

“Satu-chan? Where are you?” The same voice kept calling out. Satu opened her mouth to talk, but no words came out.

“Can't you hear me?” The voice continued on. Satu closed her mouth and started reaching out in the blinding black scene before her.

 

“Here. I'm here.”

Satu called out to the voice, finally able to get her words out.

“Where is here Satu-chan?” The voice responded.

“On Earth. With the Tante. Mother, is that you?” Satu cried out, wanting to see.

“Are you happy being on Earth Satu-chan?”

 

“Yes… But is that you mother?” Satu tried to find her, frantically searching.

“Then why do you want to leave?” The voice replied.

“I don't! I don't want to be stuck in Heaven, but I don't want to be without Hitomi and Emi. I just can't lose my new friends either!” Satu begged. “Where are you?!”

“Then don't leave Satu-baby. Don't leave…”

 

 

Satu woke up from the sound of footsteps hitting a tree branch. She opened her eyes and looked at a familiar set of worried red eyes, staring at her. She smiled and pushed herself up against the side if the tub to protect her privacy. Hiei blushed and turned to the side.

 

“You were worried… I'm sorry.” Satu said sadly. Her eyes were heavy from all her indecisiveness. Hiei stood there without saying anything, just waiting. Satu gave him an odd look. “Aren't you an-”

 

“Don't leave me.” Hiei said quietly. Satu's eyes were wide as she processed his simple request. She laughed to herself.

 

“I won't.”

 

“Promise?”

 

“Yes. I promise not to leave you. But…” Satu said, looking at the Jaganshi who made her realize that love wasn't a text book option.

 

“BUT WHAT ONNA!?” Hiei growled.

 

“But you have to look away so I can get dressed.” She said. Hiei blushed and turned around, giving Satu enough time to slip into her pajamas and sneak back into her cleaned room with fresh air from the once stubborn window.

 

“Done?” Hiei asked from her bedroom window. She nodded and crawled into bed and found Hiei sitting at the foot of her bed.

 

“What's wrong?” She asked the Koorime. He looked nervous.

 

“What did you chose Onna?” Hiei asked seriously. He was determined to know what he would have to do to get the angel to stay with him.

 

“I'm going to stay. I told you.” Satu replied.

 

“I meant about your powers.” Hiei rolled his eyes and moved next to the angel. She smelt like fresh night sky; what he assumed Heaven must smell like.

 

“I'm going to Enma tomorrow.” Satu laid her head on her pillow and felt Hiei's protective stare look at her. She closed her eyes and pulled the Jaganshi's arm over her until he lay next to her.

 

“Onna, is it what you really want?” Hiei asked again, scared that she would make the mistake of staying for him. He needed to know that she knew what a sacrifice she was making.

 

“Yes. I want to be where I belong.”

Hiei paced the hallway outside of King Enma's office. Yusuke and Keiko sat and watched the normally level headed Jaganshi run himself ragged with worry about what was happening.

 

“Oi! Hiei, it ain't a freakin' birth! Relax!” Yusuke yelled, seeing Kuwabara getting motion sick from watching Hiei. Kurama leaned against the wall, worried about his partner who was worrying enough for everyone in the room.

 

“Don't try my patience Detective.” Hiei glared. Botan and Koenma watched frantically and worried about the lack of noise coming from the very boisterous King Enma's office.

 

“I'm worried Koenma, it's really quiet.” Botan whispered. Hiei shot her a look of fear.

 

“What's wrong with that?! Talk ferrywoman!” Hiei dared. Botan hid behind Koenma and even the toddler looked scared.

 

“Onii-san, please be patient, it might require some-” Yukina found herself cut off by the sound of large opening doors. King Enma's office door slid slightly open and a short conversation could be heard.

 

“Oh! Yeah, thanks again!

 

“Not a problem! You stop by any time!”

 

“We'll go over that book next time. See you later!”

 

“Right! Take care Satu-sama!”

 

“Bye!” Satu slid out into the lobby and closed the large doors. She put her back against the door and smiled. Hiei rushed up to her and checked her for any marks.

 

{If he did anything, I'll kill him.}

 

{Relax}

 

“So?” Yusuke asked the angel.

 

“Let's go home.” Satu smiled and grabbed Hiei's hand, much to his and everyone's surprise. The gang didn't ask many questions all the way home. They said their good byes to Koenma and went straight back to the temple just in time to catch dinner.

 

“Are you ever going to tell us what your decision was?” Yusuke prodded. Satu laughed and nodded.

 

“Okay. Since you asked so NICELY!” Satu cleared her throat.

 

“Hurry up onna, I'm not getting younger.” Hiei rushed.

 

“I'm part angel, part demon, part human.” Satu said honestly. Everyone groaned.

 

“We KNOW THAT!” Yusuke said. “Itai, Keiko!” Yusuke rubbed his arm where Keiko punched him.

 

“No, I gave up most of my powers, told Enma I only wanted to be able to vacation to see everyone. This way Hiei will have some reason to come back more often.” Satu winked at her favorite Koorime, who blushed tomato-red. Everyone laughed and nodded except for Hiei who only secretly enjoyed it.

 

“What happened to the rest of your Angel Powers?” Yukina asked curiously.

 

“I gave them to someone who needed them more than me.” Satu smiled.

 

 

 

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ HEAVEN ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

 

 

Hitomi placed her feet on the cold floor and grabbed a hold of her robe. It was close to 2 am in the Human world and she was still feeling the little bit of jet leg that comes with flying.

 

{Haha, that would be a good joke for the next time I go and see Satu.}

 

Hitomi frowned and walked out onto the balcony of Satu's bedroom. When she left, Hitomi took it over and had been sleeping in it ever since, just trying to stay connected to the girl who she helped save.

 

“I miss you Satu. You'll come and see me soon, right? I wonder how you are.” Hitomi sighed and ran her fingers through her now loose black hair.

 

“She's fine actually, but she figured YOU might be the lonely one.” A voice said from behind Hitomi. She turned around fast and lost her breath.

 

“Ko..Konosuke!?!” Hitomi cried out.

 

“Angel…”
