Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Angered Fox Within Me Part One: Blissful Ignorance ❯ A Budding Friendship ( Chapter 2 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

A/N- Hey! Another chapter completed. We got some snow finally so I decided to celebrate! I love winter and the cold so if you don't have snow yet, I feel bad for you. Just kidding. I never feel bad for anyone.... Well... with the exception of Hiei and Kurama, but that's different. Anyways, thanks for the review Black Kaze Kitsune. I like reviews and I am happy to know that some people like this story, considering it was born during a meeting that I was bored at so I started writing. YAY!!!!!!!!

Disclaimer- I'm not gonna do this again, so from now on, the disclaimer can be read from these first three chapters. OWNING NOTHING BUT ALANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warning- Nothing but Kuwabara bashing, if you like him, I suggest you stop reading the story.

Summary for Story- Kurama makes a decision that affects everyone's memories. He doesn't know Hiei (who goes to ningen school) and meets a transfer from Ireland. (I don't know why I like them meeting foreign girls but I do) They become friends and soon more but time after time they are pulled apart. Cliffhanger at end to be answered in part two. Hey guess what?! I lowered the rating! I realized it made no sense for people to not be able to read this until I get to Lemony goodness so until I do, this is PG-13. Why? For adult situations. You'll see.

Summary for chapter- Kurama and Kuwabara are about to fight but Alana shows up and Kuwabara behaves himself. Kurama learns that Alana paints and wants to paint his portrait. Are they friends or more?

"Sounds great Shuiichi," she said. "Thanks again." She leaned in and once more hugged him and kissed his cheek. Kurama couldn't help but feel that he could get used to it.

What is up with that kiss?

Chapter Two

A Budding Friendship

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Kurama bent down to pick up his fallen books, when Kuwabara insisted on opening his ugly mouth. "Get up and fight baka!"

Kurama sighed. "Must we argue again? I have lost count of all the verbal fights between us that I won and you lost."

"Yeah?" Asked Kuwabara. "Well now we're using fists. So get up and fight me unless you're afraid!"

Kurama shook his head. It was not wise to continue fighting the same people over and over again. And no matter how much he wanted to pound the insolent ningen, he knew he couldn't. Not when Youko was trying to break free from his confinement inside of him. No, it would be best to just walk away, but for some reason, his instinct to break Kuwabara limb from limb overrode his brain's commands on his legs.

Suddenly, Kuwabara began to charge. Then he stopped about two feet from Kurama with his fist raised. Still crouching, Kurama wondered why Kuwabara wasn't fighting him like he wished. It seemed that the fool was looking at something behind Kurama. Curiosity getting the better of him, Kurama turned to see what had captivated Kuwabara's tiny mind.

It was Alana. She glared at Kuwabara, at his thugs, and at Hiei, something Kurama was sure not many people could get away with. Hiei looked away from her gaze and Kuwabara backed away from Kurama, trying to look innocent; his friends did the same. Kurama however looked Alana up and down. She wore a blue wrap around skirt with a white flower pattern. She also wore a white tank top with a Celtic knot on the front and her hair was done up in a French twist with flowers in it that matched those on her skirt. Her shoes contrasted with her clothes. She wore knee high boots that were pure black but the lace holes shimmered silver. Realizing her glare had worked; she flashed a grin at everyone and walked up to Kurama. "It seems that Shuiichi has dropped his books," she observed.

Alana bent down and helped Kurama pick up his books. She handed them to Kurama and then stood when he took them. He just stared in awe, for he hadn't noticed just how pretty she was before. When she offered him a hand to help him stand up he smiled and took it. Her grin widened and she turned to Kuwabara and the others. "Well Kuwabara," she said. "It was nice to see you again, but I think I'll go home now." She turned to Kurama. "Shuiichi, may I walk with you since my house is on the way to yours?" Kurama nodded, he still hadn't said anything to her. He was too shocked that she had gotten him out of what would have been a fight and stopped him from beating Kuwabara to a bloody pulp. "Great!" She exclaimed.

Alana pulled Kurama by the hand and they left the others without a word. She looked back at the last second to glare once more at Hiei and the others, but when she faced Kurama again, her smile was back on. Hiei had just watched as his 'friends' attempted to provoke a fight out of Kurama. She despised Hiei and only to her knowledge, he was part of the reason she broke up with Kuwabara. The other part being she never even liked the guy, but this was another story.

Kurama walked with Alana in silence until they were out of sight of the others. He glanced over at his companion. "You didn't have to do that Alana," he said.

She smiled. "Yes I did Shuiichi. I like you. You are kind to everyone as long as they are kind to you in return. I value that." Alana grinned mischievously and winked at him. "Plus I believe that pissing Kuwabara off is the most fun ever!"

Kurama laughed and then realized that they were still holding hands. He released his hand and then did a double take on her outfit. He thought back to the school day and realized he hadn't seen her there. "Alana, why weren't you in school today and why aren't you in uniform?"

Alana gazed at him questioningly. She seemed to think about his question, and then realization dawned on her face. "Oh, Shuiichi! You didn't hear about that? I transferred to the art school and they revoked the uniform policy over there!" She smiled and he nodded. "You know," she continued. "You could probably get into the school if you wanted. I've gone by your house and I saw you working in the garden, which is beautiful by the way, and I saw some of your art in the art class back at your school, once again, very lovely. You should apply!"

Kurama was taken aback. "Really? Well thanks for the complement and I will certainly consider it." They walked in silence for a few feet, then Kurama's curiosity piqued up again. "If you don't mind me asking, why did you break up with Kuwabara?" Kurama personally couldn't care less about the reason; he was pleased she had no longer associated with that moron. But then again, maybe she really liked him. Kurama had to suppress his laughter at the thought of that.

The grin fell from Alana's face and the light left her eyes. "He tried to umm...force himself on me to look like a tough guy for Hiei. I refused and he backed off, at first. But then he kept trying so I dumped him. Not like it was a great loss. I mean, he was really just dumb...I mean dead weight. No, dumb is a fair assessment as well..." Kurama laughed even harder this time and it never occurred to ask why she even went out with him in the first place. "Freeze!" She suddenly exclaimed. Kurama jumped but froze in place.

"What?" He asked.

"Look straight ahead," she commanded.

"Huh?"

"Just do it!" He did as asked. "I knew it! You have a magnificent face and profile. I would love to paint your portrait! Would you mind?"

Kurama was surprised by her question and after a few minutes he broke free from his dazed prison. "Sure," he said. Her smile widened and she hugged him then kissed his cheek. His eyes widened. "Umm.... You're welcome?"

She pulled away and said, "Sorry. It's that, I haven't had anything to paint in over a month because I had no inspiration. Now I do, and once I get unleashed I stay that way for months!"

Kurama smiled and said, "I understand Alana and it's quite all right."

Alana smiled back and they walked quietly to her house. She looked back to him and asked, "How's tomorrow for you? If it's nice we can paint in my backyard."

He thought about it and found the idea quite appealing. "Okay then. Meet me outside my school and I'll walk here with you."

She practically jumped with excitement and it showed. Kurama already knew he could be a great friend with Alana. The mere thought of spending an afternoon with her was quite appealing to his mind, and other parts of him.
"Sounds great Shuiichi," she said. "Thanks again." She leaned in and once more hugged him and kissed his cheek. Kurama couldn't help but feel that he could get used to it. She went inside and Kurama walked the rest of the way home. His mother had left a note saying that she was at the store buying groceries and would be home by six. Kurama looked at the clock, which said four thirty. Kurama went into his room and did his homework. He was done a little after five; having completed most of his work at lunch and during classes when there was spare time. He stretched out on his futon and thought about Alana, wondering what she had meant by the hugs and kisses she bestowed upon him. He resolved to ask her the next morning and fell asleep early, still in his clothes.

The next morning Kurama woke to find that his mother had come in and covered him with a blanket during the night. He smiled to himself. His human mother was so kind and understanding. Sometimes he had regretted not telling the sweet woman what he really was, but now of course it made no difference. She probably would have been afraid of him at first but then come to understand and accept. Kurama got up and showered then dressed for school. He hurriedly ate some toast then ran out the door early and left for what he hoped would be a good day.

Kurama walked up to Alana's house, planning on asking her about the hugs and kisses while walking her to school. He knocked on the door and her father answered, telling him that Alana's school started earlier than the normal middle school so she had already left. Kurama thanked him and continued to school.

He didn't pay much attention that day, not that he really needed to. When the final bell rang he waited for Alana out front. Kuwabara started towards him when she rounded the corner. He smiled, she was gorgeous. Today she wore a long flowing white skirt and a mint green tank that perfectly contrasted with her hair, which was down and somewhat wavy. He could see her boots protruding from underneath the skirt and smiled at her fashion style. He liked it. She walked up to him and returned his smile. Kurama noted that Kuwabara had stopped in his tracks. Alana took Kurama's hand and they started walking. She never lost her smile even when she talked. When Kurama glanced behind him, he saw Kuwabara fuming and Hiei glaring.

Alana began making suggestions for poses she could paint him in. Then she whipped out a Polaroid camera and snapped shots of him as he walked. She released his hand and hurried ahead a few steps to take some front view shots. He laughed as he looked at the pictures she had taken and she said, "You know Shuiichi, I had never heard you laugh until yesterday. I like it." She flashed him another grin and he found that he liked the fact that she smiled excessively.

They reached her house and she led him to the backyard. "Sit on the bench please," she said and he sat. "I'll be right back with my supplies." Two trips later she was set up with easel, paint, paint brushes, lead and stool. Alana told him how to move his head and after a half-hour she told him he could move and look if he wanted.

Kurama stepped behind her and looked down at the sketch. He saw what looked like a black and white mirror of his face and hair. Alana laughed at his surprise. She had drawn him as a knight looking up at the moon. After finishing a few craters on the moon Alana began to paint. She started with the armor and used a mixture of gray, white, and black. After that was completed she moved on to the stars and used yellows and whites. She then used Gray and white for the moon and Kurama found himself mesmerized by her work. Soon all that wasn't painted was Kurama himself.

She stared with his eyes. Alana selected a shade of green and dabbed it on the painting. She looked at Kurama's eyes, sighed, then whites out the color and did it again with another shade. This repeated three more times. On Alana's sixth try she seemed somewhat satisfied, turned back to Kurama, then turned once more to her painting and frowned. She selected a darker shade and placed it over the color already there. Alana did a double take on Kurama's eyes then smiled, at last pleased with the shade of green. Then, she moved on to the hair.

This process was much longer. It took her twenty tries before she made yet another mix and moved on. Kurama was scared for a moment when he saw her select yellow, pink and white for the skin tone. He then relaxed when he saw how Alana blended them together, letting pink stay in his cheeks and the white had mixed with some of the three colors it turned peach for the rest of the skin. She then took yellow and made an aura around the whole knight, including the armor. "Done," she announced.

Kurama looked at the whole thing and said, "Wow, Alana. This is really good."

"Well thanks, but as my muse, most of the credit is to you." Alana used her arm to wipe sweat from her forehead.

Kurama smiled, "Umm.... Alana, you got paint on you." She reached to wipe it off and only succeeded in getting more on herself. "Here, let me try," he said reaching for some cloth she had to wipe her brushes. Gently he dabbed at the paint on her forehead until it was off. When he was done she flashed him another one of her famous smiles.

"Thanks," she said.

"No problem." Kurama set the rag on the stool then helped Alana take her things inside. "I better be going. I left a note for my mother this morning saying I would be home before seven and it's already six thirty."

"Okay," Alana said. "I'll walk out with you. I have to check the mail anyway." Alana and Kurama walked out to the front gate.

"I'll see you tomorrow then," he asked.

"Sure," she said. "I'll meet you the same as I did today." Kurama nodded and just stared at Alana. To keep her hair out of her face while she worked she had put it in a bun, but several strands had come loose. He reached out and tucked them behind her ears. There was nothing but air separating them and there wasn't much of that. He noted that she wore no make-up but her lips were ruby red. Slowly he bent down to her and kissed those lips.

Alana slid her hands up his chest and wrapped her arms around his neck. His own hands snaked around her waist and pulled her to him. They kissed for what seemed like an hour but had only been five minutes. They both pulled away and Kurama whispered in her ear, "I'll see you tomorrow."

Some color had risen in her face and she replied just as softly, "All right." Kurama turned and left, smiling to himself. He had enjoyed kissing her and he wanted to do it again.
