A/N: Brownie points for what the names of Tenma and his gang mean! ^_^ Extra credit for people who know what Kouken means, too! Feh, extra credit for people who know what this phrase means "Lasst meine Leute los!" ^_^ Came up with it in Pre-calc class when i got bored! Anyway, in our last chapter Shinzui went through her first day of school and she met Kuwabara and Kurama. Now here's the exciting third chapter of Aoitsuki Yurai.

&a mp;nbsp; As soon as school ended, the students retreated from the building to pursue other activities or they stayed for after school projects or clubs. Keiko had stayed at a meeting with her club, but the three boys left the school with Shinzui. She had obviously cheered up a great deal during their classes and was chatting avidly with Yusuke and Kuwabara about pranks they could pull on Iwamoto and Akashi. Kurama hung back a bit, watching Shinzui's back and listening to her laugh at Yusuke's ideas.
"You have the best ideas, Yusuke, " laughed Shinzui, a smile on her face, "Though, if we're going to really embarass them we should try..." Her voice died as she saw a group of guys in red and black uniforms blocking their path and upon seeing who they were, her eyes widened in terror.
&a mp;nbsp; Shinzui abruptly stopped, causing the other three to stop and look at her, but then turn their gazes to the gang in front of them. The boy in front was a head taller than Shinzui, his cold, deep red eyes were fixed on the girl, and his long black hair was tied back in a loose ponytail. He smirked at Shinzui, causing her to take a step back, feeling fear freeze her heart and her voice was gone.
&a mp;nbsp; Two of the boys were twins with dark brown hair and green eyes, but one had long hair and the other had short hair. The guy behind the first one had long, dark blond hair pulled back in a loose ponytail and his eyes were dark blue. The last boy, who was in the back, had dark red hair, even darker than Shinzui's, and dark brown eyes that seemed almost black. They all eyed Shinzui, but then looked at Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama.
"What? No hello, Shinzui?" asked the front boy, his eyes sweeping over her with a hungry look in them.
"T... Tenma," stuttered Shinzui, her voice shaking in fear, "What are you doing here?" She took another step back as she watched the boy take a step towards her.
"Just checking up on my favorite classmate," replied Tenma, chuckling, "Well, ex-classmate I guess." He leered at her with a twisted smile. "Did you really think you could hide from me here? I believe you remember my buddies. Shikaru." He gestured to the dark-red haired boy. "Kageru." The blonde haired boy cracked his knuckles. "And the twins, Kage." He nodded at the long haired twin. "And Kokuei." The short haired twin smirked widely at Shinzui.
"O... Of course I remember your mindless minions," growled Shinzui, attempting to hide her fear, but her voice still shook.
"I see you've acquired some new friends," said Tenma, looking at Yusuke, "The punk, Urameshi," His eyes shifted to Kuwabara. "The idiot, Kuwabara," Tenma's eyes finally rested on Kurama. "This one I don't know, but it doesn't matter. We don't need to be acquainted to fight."
"Watch it, Nejiru," growled Yusuke, glaring at the boy.
"Tenma," said Shinzui, straightening up and walking forwards, trying to suppress her fear, but her voice shook as she continued, "I won't let you hurt them." She was shaking slightly, but her eyes, now a fierce electric blue, were glaring up at Tenma.
"You," laughed Tenma, crossing his arms, "Do my ears deceive me? You are telling us that you won't let us hurt them?" He and the rest of his gang roared with laughter. "Step to the side for a moment."
"N... No," said Shinzui, her tone becoming more defiant and she planted her feet firmly to the ground, clenching her fists to signify that she wouldn't move, "I will not move, Tenma. Not this time."
These words made all five boys abruptly stop their laughter and stare at Shinzui in shock, except for Tenma, who narrowed his eyes at her and spoke in a low, dangerous tone. "Move away from them, little pup." His eyes flashed in anger when Shinzui stomped her foot and looked even more defiant than before. "Move, Shinzui, and you won't get hurt."
"Shinzui, just move," said Yusuke, looking angry, "We can take these guys." He was glaring at the gang with a fierce look in his eyes.
"N... No," said Shinzui, her voice shaking, but she stood her ground and it was clear to Tenma that she had no intention of moving.
"In that case," hissed Tenma, his eyes narrowing to slits, "I'll make you move." With a swift movement, he drew back his hand and moved it to strike Shinzui hard across the face.
"You hit a girl!" exclaimed Kuwabara, looking outraged, "Boys aren't supposed to hit girls! It's not right."
Shinzui staggered a bit, but straightened up, placing herself back where she had been standing. "You can hit me as many times as you want. I won't move away."
"I admire your courage, Shin-chan," said Tenma, smiling in a sick way, "But I cannot stand for such defiant behavior. I'll do more than hit you this time, pup." He smirked at her and his hand groped for something behind his back, but Shinzui had not noticed this movement.
&a mp;nbsp; Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama saw a slight glint of something metallic in Tenma's hand and realized what it was. The brute's hand was wrapped around the handle of a knife and he readied his arm to attack. He lunged at Shinzui with the knife, surprising the shaking girl, but she had no time to dodge the blade that was coming right at her. A pair of hands grabbed her left arm, yanking her out of the way as Tenma went past , she saw a slight spray of blood right before two boys pounced on him.
&a mp;nbsp; Shinzui was staring with her mouth slightly open at Yusuke and Kuwabara, who had wrestled Tenma to the ground, disarming him. Her frightened and wide eyes moved to the bloody knife that lay several feet away from the struggling attacker. A sharp pain went through her right arm and a slight breeze tickled her skin as her torn sleeve flapped in the wind. Blood was seeping down her arm from a gash that the knife had left and she yelped in surprise when a hand touched her shoulder. Tenma disentangled himself from Yusuke and Kuwabara long enough to shout as his gang to attack the three boys.
"Get out of here as soon as you can," said a voice in her ear as Kurama moved past her to meet the on coming attackers.
"Um... O... Ok," stuttered Shinzui, her breath shaky as she pressed a hand firmly over the gash on her arm. I should've done that in the first place, she thought, I'm so stupid! Standing up to Tenma?! What was I thinking! He would've throttled me if Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Shuichi hadn't been here. She quietly backed away to run, but voice in her ear made her heart freeze in terror.
"Where do you think you're going, pup?" hissed Tenma's voice, full of malice, "After your little display, I'm not letting you get away with a little gash like that. You're really going to feel pain now."
&a mp;nbsp; Tenma's strong hand gripped Shinzui's injured arm, causing her to yelp in pain and wriggle violently to free herself from his hold. Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama looked up from their battles at the sound of Shinzui's yelp, only to see Tenma raising his hand to hit her, but before they could move to stop him, he stopped. He cried out in pain as something clamped a sharp set of teeth over his arm. He let go of Shinzui and went down in a flurry of fur, teeth, and claws, but the boys returned to getting rid of the rest of the gang.
"Kouken," said Shinzui quietly as a silver-gray and white dog bounded over to her.
"Stupid mutt," growled Tenma, sitting up, covered in bloody gashes from the dog's attack. He glared at Shinzui and the dog, who growled at the boy.
"Kouken isn't a mutt!" shouted Shinzui, glaring at Tenma, "He's a wolf-dog." She knelt down and patted the dog on the head.
"So, this is the only defense you have now?" asked Tenma, laughing, "A dog? I can take of that mutt easily." He advanced towards Shinzui, causing Kouken to leap in front of the girl, snarling at him.
"What do you mean only defense, Nejiru?" asked Yusuke, appearing next to Shinzui with Kuwabara and Kurama.
Tenma looked dumbfounded to see the three boys standing there and all four of his gang on the ground nursing their injuries. "How did you manage to beat all four of them." He narrowed his eyes at the three boys standing next to a very shocked Shinzui and still snarling Kouken.
"You're out numbered now, Nejiru," said Kuwabara, glaring at Tenma.
"I suggest you leave while you're still in one piece," said Kurama calmly, giving Tenma a look that caused the boy to take a step back.
"You're not who you seem to be," muttered Tenma, glaring at all three of them, but then his gaze shifted to Shinzui, "Looks like you actually have a good set of friends to help you out, pup." His eyes narrowed at her. "This isn't over. You and I need to have a discussion."
"I'm not part of your damn gang anymore, Tenma," said Shinzui, her arms wrapped lightly around Kouken's neck, eyes mixed with defiance and fear, "Ever since our relationship ended, I haven't been part of the gang."
"That's where you're wrong, Shin-chan," growled Tenma, his tone turning deadly as his eyes narrowed to slits, "Once you're a member of our gang, you're stuck with us for the rest of your life." He noticed that the rest of his gang get up weakly and saw the twins supporting Shikaru between them. "Let's go." He spat on the ground, threw a glare back at Shinzui, the boys, and Kouken, then retreated with his injured gang members.
Once they had left, Shinzui closed her eyes, taking deep breaths to calm her shaking body, "I was hoping he wouldn't find me again."
"Who was that?" asked Kurama, looking at Shinzui, Yusuke, and Kuwabara, "The three of you seem to know him."
"I fought his gang a few times," replied Yusuke, snorting and kicking the ground, "Dirty fighter. He does anything to win."
"I can't believe he'll even hit girls," raged Kuwabara, crossing his arms, "My gang fought his once, too. Pulls dirty tricks to catch you off guard."
"What about you?" asked Yusuke, looking at Shinzui, "What was he talking about when he said you were part of his gang."
"Tenma and I used to date each other at our old school," replied Shinzui, stroking the fur on Kouken's head as he laid down and set it in her lap, "It started out fine, but after a while he began to..." She shivered and stared at the ground. "He got abusive and took out his anger on me. He stalked me everywhere I went and when I finally broke it off with him... He..." She closed her eyes as her body shook from the memory and Kouken licked her hand and nuzzled it reassuringly. "He tried to..." She bit her lip, her eyes squeezed shut tightly, and refused to say anything else.
"Shinzui!" called a voice behind them, "What happened to you?!"
"Y... Yume-san!" exclaimed Shinzui, looking very relieved about this distraction from her memory.
&a mp;nbsp; A woman was rushing down the sidewalk, her waist length black hair that had an odd purple hue, flying behind her. Her deep amethyst eyes were fixed on Shinzui, who smiled as the woman stopped and knelt down beside her. Kouken greeted the woman with a joyful bark and a lick on the hand as she scratched him behind the ears. Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama felt a strange sensation when the woman looked at them, but they dismissed it when they felt no threat.
"Oh, Shinzui," said Yume, looking at the girl, "Let me see that." She took Shinzui's arm gently and inspected the gash. "It was that boy, Tenma, wasn't it?" At a confirming nod from Shinzui, she burst into a tirade of things she'd do to Tenma if she ever got her hands on him. "Shinzui, dear, you're a mess. Let's get you to my house so you can get cleaned up and perhaps your friends will like to do the same." Her eerie eyes swept over the three boys, who were staring at her. "They look like horses dragged them through a field of thorny bushes. Oh! Where are my manners!" She bowed a bit to the boys and smiled. "My name is Yume Chikara, wife of Kioku Chikara. What are your names?" She looked expectantly at the boys, who were staring at her in silence. "My outgoing personality must've shocked them."
"Yusuke Urameshi," replied Yusuke, shaking his head a bit before looking at the woman.
"Kazuma Kuwabara," said Kuwabara, bending into a short, yet awkward bow.
"Shuichi Minamino," said Kurama, bowing gracefully in one swift movement.
"Well, you have some wonderful new friends, Shinzui," said Yume, "And such fine young boys at that." She smiled slyly at Shinzui, who blushed slightly and pretended not to know what Yume was thinking.
"I can't go home like this," said Shinzui, sighing, "I don't want dad to think that I can't fight a gang of guys... Or else he'd sic his whole secret service dudes on me to get answers."
"Your father would," said Yume, a cold look in her eyes, "We can discuss all this later. Kioku's probably wondering where I am." She helped the girl up, pulling off her shawl, and draping it around her.
"Thank you," said Shinzui, looking at the three boys, "If you hadn't been here... " She looked at the ground. "I'd probably be in worse shape than this, but I'm sorry for getting you involved in my problem with Tenma."
"Hey, that dude's a jerk anyway," said Yusuke, snorting, "He's been asking for a beating from Kuwabara and me, but I need to get home for the study session with Keiko."
"I have to get home before Shizuru tries to fine me for being late to do my chores," said Kuwabara, "But thanks for the offer anyway."
"My mother asked me to help her clean the house for some guests tonight," said Kurama, smiling politely, "But thank you for your offer."
"Well, that's alright," said Yume, chuckling, "I understand. Well, Shinzui, let's get you to my house to clean you up."
"Bye guys," said Shinzui, smiling at them, "Thank you..."
&a mp;nbsp; As Yume steered Shinzui down the sidewalk with Kouken trotting at her side, the boys called their own good-byes and watched them disappear in the distance. The boys said good-bye to each other and went their separate ways towards their houses. The day had turned out to be more interesting than they had thought it would be. The three realized that hanging around Shinzui might prove to be an adventure for them.
Dude, what an adventurous chapter. Innocent girl with a dark past is a bit cliched, but I like the cliche! It's one of my favorite combinations! ^_^ By the way, what'd you think of Tenma? Potential villian or minor annoyance? Read and Review.
