Chapter One

"Don't go." Warm lips ghosted across a bared chest, teasing in their caress. Elegant fingers trailed a path down a chiseled abdomen as their owner flicked a tongue over a hardened nipple. "You never were one for obeying orders anyway, why start now?" Hiei moved up his lover's body to lick at his lips enticingly, hoping to convince the raven haired man that the Prince of the Reikai could do without him for at least another day. Really, why would anyone pass up the pleasure he was offering to contend with paperwork and formalities?

"Hiei.." Groaning deep in his chest he fought to maintain a clear mind. As the apparition's erection pressed so wantonly against his own he decided he wanted nothing more than to forget the appointment he had made over a week ago. If it were up to him at this moment he'd tell Koenma he'd need to reschedule again but Yusuke knew he couldn't put it off forever, not if he wanted to remain in the Ningenkai anyway. As much as he wanted to return to the Makai with his demon lover he still had obligations in the human world. "Hiei I can't, we've been putting this off for too long already."

"A few more hours won't kill him." It was a pity Yusuke was so distracted, normally he'd be panting beneath him by now. Irritation flooded through him that Koenma still had such a hold on his lover. The demigod had given up any claims on the Toushin when their brief affair ended and Hiei was not of a mind to give him a chance to change his mind. Yusuke was his now and unless the man told him that it was over he'd fight anyone who tried to take him away, even a God. Determined to get Yusuke to forget about this idiotic appointment he slipped a hand beneath the waistband of his jeans and palmed the hard flesh that was straining to get free.
"You're a sadist you know that?" It was so tempting to say the hell with it and give in to what Hiei wanted. Yusuke had no desire to go to the Reikai when the apparition was being so giving. He felt the hand withdrawing and drew in a deep breath, ready to resume his protests before the hybrid took away his ability to think. Feeling the hand working on the buttons of his pants, his hand moved to intercept them but Hiei was too fast. Within moments his cock was standing proudly from his body and his lover had a positively wicked expression on his face.
"You like me this way and you know it Yusuke so don't bother to put up the pretense of complaining." Wetness had begun to pool at the tip of the erection in his hand and without breaking the gaze he had with his lover Hiei slid down towards Yusuke's heated length. Running his tongue across the underside he groaned his approval, he always had enjoyed the way the detective tasted and this time would be no different. Before they even attempted to crawl out of bed again he fully intended on devouring every last inch of the tantalizing flesh before him.
It was always like this with Hiei and Yusuke loved it. The apparition was always so forceful in getting what he wanted yet at the same time there was a gentleness about the way he did so. It made giving up control that much more enjoyable and Yusuke loved nothing more than surrendering to the hybrid. Just as he made the decision to reschedule a knock came at the window. "Go away Botan!" The feel of the mouth slowly taking him in was too good to turn down.

Pleased that he had gotten his way, the apparition continued to pleasure his lover. Withdrawing slightly he settled more comfortably between the detective's legs before taking him in once more. He had to grip Yusuke's hips as the man began thrusting up into his mouth, while it was true that he wanted the Toushin to take control more often this time he wanted to be the one to dictate how fast things went. He'd make sure that all thoughts of Koenma were destroyed for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow he would have to begin anew but it was worth it in the end.

Outside Botan glared at the window, did Yusuke think she enjoyed coming down here just to be sent away again? It was bad enough that it was happening today but this wasn't the first time, nor the second. No, this was the third time she'd been sent to retrieve the man and each time she was brushed off with a rude remark. Well, not this time. Fed up with being ignored she moved her oar closer to the window and flung it open. Without waiting to hear another barked order she flew inside. "Oh no you don't Yus-- oh..." A blush tinted her cheeks at seeing the compromising position that the two demons were in. When the hell had this happened?

"Dammit woman! You were told to leave, I suggest you do so." Growling at the ferry girl Hiei pulled back from his lover and glared at her. How dare she just barge in without so much as a by your leave? If she wasn't already dead he'd kill her one hundred times over, by the looks of things the mood had just been ruined. He was tempted to throw her ass back out that window and try to salvage what was left of Yusuke's erection, why couldn't she have just stayed the hell away?

Embarrassment quickly fled against the onslaught of her flaring temper and she whirled back around to face them. "Don't you take that tone with me! Yusuke made an appointment with Koenma and he is rather tired of it being rescheduled. You should have thought about that before starting... this." She felt it prudent to keep her eyes off of Yusuke's semi-naked form as he struggled to fix his pants with the apparition still firmly planted on top of him. "Hurry up Yusuke, we don't have all evening and don't even start. Koenma said to drag you there if I have to so just save it."

"Someone sure is bitchy today." Yusuke groused as he buttoned his pants and tried to ignore the glare that was being directed at both him and the ferry girl. It was apparent that Hiei was most displeased with what was going on, not that he could blame him. He wasn't any happier about it either. Thankfully though Koenma had assured him that it shouldn't take long to get the paperwork filled out. Turning to his lover, Yusuke tried to pacify him. "I'll be back soon, this shouldn't take any more than an hour. I'll be back before you know it."

"One hour, even one minute longer and I'm going to come retrieve you myself." Hiei crossed his arms and stared at Yusuke as he got off the bed. It was going to be hell now forcing his own arousal down while he waited for the man to get back. Sighing heavily he resigned himself to giving up an hour of his time with his lover. It just irritated him to no end that this couldn't have waited until he was called back to the Makai. His visits to the human realm weren't exactly frequent after all. Perhaps Yusuke could be persuaded to return with him for a day or two.

"One hour. I'll be back soon, be ready." Winking at his lover, Yusuke made sure that Hiei knew he intended on picking up where they had left off. Turning towards the impatient woman on the oar, Yusuke reluctantly climbed up behind her. If he was lucky this would take all of ten minutes and then he'd be back. Having Hiei come up to the Reikai to retrieve him wasn't something he necessarily wanted to see. They had agreed to keep their relationship private given what had gone down between him and Koenma though the apparition had more than once commented that if the demigod ever thought to rekindle the dead relationship he'd be sure to prove just who Yusuke belonged to now. He wasn't exactly sure he wanted to know just what he had meant by that.

Anxious to be off Botan maneuvered the oar back outside and ignored the resigned expression on Yusuke's face. As they took off towards the Reikai her curiosity got the better of her and she turned her head towards the man sitting behind her. "So... how long have you two been together?" Seeing them like that had come as quite a shock, she hadn't been aware of any attraction between the two. After Keiko moved to a college overseas their relationship had ended, being too difficult to maintain with such a distance between them. Meeting so many knew people hadn't helped matters for them either and eventually it was decided they were better off going their separate ways. Then came the brief affair with Koenma which had been kept under wraps, at least until Jorge had spilled their secret to King Enma and forcing it to come to an end. But Hiei? She didn't think he liked anyone save his sister and that was by no means a romantic relationship.

"Long enough." Discussing his private life with the biggest gossip the three realms had ever seen was not an option. Both he and Hiei were extremely private individuals and he'd had enough of having his life broadcasted to the world as if he were the star of a hit television series. "Look Botan, this might be hard for you but I'd rather you didn't mention what you saw. I know if Hiei were here he'd insist on the same thing." Insist might not be a strong enough word for what Hiei would say but it would have to suffice. She knew well enough what happened when people didn't keep quiet when Hiei wanted something kept a secret.

Wisely Botan nodded, taking the hint that lay in Yusuke's words. Truthfully she rather thought it was a good idea as well, Koenma hadn't taken well to his father's order concerning the relationship he had started with the man behind her. Often times she would see him staring off into nothing and sighing heavily, when questioned he'd just tell her he wanted something he couldn't have and not to worry about it. "I won't say anything Yusuke."

"Thanks." The rest of the trip was continued in silence and that was just the way Yusuke preferred it. Neither of them seemed terribly inclined to talk anyway and Yusuke knew that if a conversation started it was likely to be a subject he didn't wish to speak of anyway. Certain topics were just off limits, Keiko was one, his prior relationship with Koenma was another. Staring out at the darkening sky he hoped that this would be over and done with soon, he really disliked wasting what time Hiei was allowed to spend in the Ningenkai. Had he known that his lover was taking leave from border patrol duty he would have put this off for another week.

"We're here." Botan waited for him to slide off of her oar before allowing it to vanish and leading him deep within the palace. Time held no meaning for the Reikai, work continued as usual no matter what time of the day or night it was. Ogres scurried around like it was the end of the world and to them it probably was should the wrong file become lost. Overall she tended to ignore these things though, she did her job as she should and let others worry about the small stuff. As she approached the doors that would take them into the demigods office she turned to Yusuke. "I think he'll enjoy seeing you Yusuke, he's been working too hard lately so if you can try to visit for a bit. I know Hiei's waiting on you but I think it would mean a lot to Koenma."

Shrugging his shoulders, Yusuke pushed through the doors and made his way inside. While he was still friends with Koenma even if it was a bit strained, he wasn't about to neglect his lover either. The nagging pull of unfulfillment in his groin didn't help matters either, it was too bad Botan couldn't have waited even ten more minutes. They could have hurried and then he wouldn't be feeling this way. Overall it left him slightly irritated. "Oi Koenma, let's hurry up and get this over with." Time was wasting and they'd already spent a good twenty minutes in just getting to the Reikai and through the palace in the first place.

The Reikai prince looked up from the file he was reading and sighed, it would figure that the detective would want to get in and out as quickly as possible. Unfortunately for Yusuke, he wasn't in the mood to oblige him. Turning to look at the ferry girl he nodded to her. "Thank you Botan, that will be all." It was a clear dismissal, she had work to do and without her help Yusuke couldn't leave. "You're going to have to wait a few minutes Yusuke, an important matter was brought to my attention and I have to finish going over the details. Once that is finished I can see about your paperwork."

"You can't be serious." Settling heavily down into the chair across from the godling, Yusuke crossed his arms and scowled. He could be back at home with his lover's mouth wrapped around his cock and sucking him dry but because Koenma was busy he'd have to sit there and wait? He wasn't amused. "Look how about I just sign them now and I can leave, I have other things I need to be doing."

Shaking his head Koenma went back to scanning the file in front of him. His father had been rather insistent this matter be taken care of and had left it in his hands. 'As if I didn't already have enough responsibility to deal with.' But it wasn't as if he could complain about the work load he was given. He held the position that he did for a reason and no amount of grousing would change that. "I can't do that Yusuke, I am sorry. The papers you are signing are pledging your loyalty to the Reikai and the spell on the paperwork requires the presence of the one you are swearing that loyalty to. I know you wouldn't do it for my father, hell he doesn't even want you in the Ningenkai to begin with. This shouldn't take much longer, fifteen minutes tops and then we can get started." Koenma knew that time frame was pushing it but if he told Yusuke that he'd never hear the end to the man's bitching.

"Fine but don't take any longer." Yusuke resigned himself to a long wait which was fairly mind numbing considering the fact that Koenma tended to read aloud, even if it was more mumbled than anything else. As it were he was able to determine that this was a reincarnation case that had gone terribly wrong and the soul had been implanted into the wrong woman's womb which disastrous results. Needless to say, the soul was a personal friend of King Enma and when he found himself dead again at the hands of his 'loving' family he'd been rather disgruntled. Now it was up to Koenma to sort out just who was responsible for the misplacement and see they were appropriately punished while finding another family that was more to this soul's liking. Not for the first time Yusuke was glad that he did not have Koenma's job, it was nothing but a headache.

Sighing heavily Koenma finally reached the last page. He didn't need to look at the clock to see that he had gone over the fifteen minutes that he had promised Yusuke, the man's sighs of irritation were enough of a reminded. The report had been just as he had expected, heads were likely to roll for this one since the soul had been one of his father's personal friends. Why couldn't the man have just chosen to stay dead? Grabbing a pen, Koenma neatly signed the bottom of it authorizing the appropriate actions to be taken concerning the matter and then stamped it with his official seal. Shoving it aside he then looked at Yusuke and he had to sigh again. Even after all this time the man just did something to him. He'd been desperately hoping that this infatuation would go away but how could it? After he'd had a taste of the Detective he'd become hopelessly addicted. "Okay Yusuke, I appreciate that you were willing to wait." His hand went to the drawer on the right and slid it open, revealing a two inch thick folder. Every detail of Yusuke's life that the Reikai had, right up to the Makai Tournament. He'd stopped prying so heavily after their failed relationship, thinking it would just worsen the pain of having to let him go if he constantly watched the man.

"Yeah let's just get on with it." Yusuke took a look at the folder, curious as to what it contained but as usual the demigod wasn't overly concerned with what he wanted to know. Instead the file was opened to the last pages and a handful of papers were pulled out, all just waiting to be signed. "So how does this work anyway?" The forms didn't seem to be overly special but he knew that didn't mean shit when it came to the Reikai. While half of their gadgets didn't work when it came to spells and such usually they were reliable.

Koenma handed him the pen and took the first form out, turning it towards the man across from him. "It's easy. I maintain contact with the paper which establishes who you are swearing allegiance to based on my energy signature. When you sign, it absorbs part of your ki as well completing the bond. It's really a formality nothing more but my father insists upon it. My personal seal will overlap your signature once each form is completed, there are ten in all. Before you sign I want you to be aware of what you are getting into though. Since you are a powerful S-class apparition now in addition to still controlling reiki you are a strong ally. Should war ever be declared with this pledge you are about to sign you are honor bound to assist the Reikai, regardless of whether you agree with it or not." While he knew that normally Yusuke would have no problems with it since the only time the Reikai got involved was when a threat was made to the Ningenkai, the man also had ties to the Makai. In the future should something happen it might mean Yusuke would have to side against his friends.

Yusuke's hand stilled above the papers and he set the pen down. Staring hard at the godling he tried to decide just what game Koenma was playing at. Surely the man couldn't be serious, there were a great many things that he didn't agree with King Enma about, his existence being one of them. The view the ruler of the Reikai had on all demons was a dim one at the best of times and he'd heard straight from Koenma that they were trying to take over the Makai one level at a time. If they decided an all out attack this meant he'd have to fight on the Reikai's side. It would mean going against Hiei and all of his other friends in demon world, something he refused to do. "This isn't right Koenma. How can you even ask me such a thing?"

"Yusuke it's not like I have a choice. My father has tolerated your continued presence in the Ningenkai for this reason alone. If you refuse you know your tentative permission to remain will be revoked and you'll have to return to the Makai." Unspoken was the fact that he'd be forced to leave Keiko and his mother behind. While there might not be anything more between him and the girl they had remained good friends even if she didn't necessarily agree with his bisexuality. Would Yusuke be willing to give up his life in the Ningenkai? Koenma wasn't sure but he had an idea which was why he had mentioned this in the first place. To omit it would have been dishonorable and destroy the friendship they had left.

As much as he wanted to remain in the Ningenkai the Makai had tremendous appeal to him as well. It would hurt leaving his life in the human realm behind but if this was the cost of keeping it he couldn't accept the offer. Loyalty was one of his strengths and there was no way in hell he'd turn from his friends for a fight he didn't agree with. "How much time do I have Koenma? I won't sign this, I can't but I need to know how long I have to get my affairs in order." Yusuke tried to ignore the ache in his chest when he spoke, his mother would be devastated but she would have to understand.

"A week, my father is gone until then. Once he returns he'll wish to know what your decision was, if you haven't signed by then and you remain in the Ningenkai the SDF will personally escort you to the Makai once more and you'll never be able to return." Koenma could see the resolve in the man's eyes as he spoke, there would be no going back for him. It also meant an end to their dealings, for this Yusuke would most likely never aid them on another case. It would seem his Reikai Tantei were finally finished. Just another chapter in his long life coming to a close, after this he'd probably never see Yusuke again. The possibility hurt more than he ever thought was possible, at least before he could see the Toushin whenever he wished. Now even that was being taken from him.

Pushing the papers back towards the demigod Yusuke nodded slightly. If this was the cost of staying true to his beliefs so be it, there was nothing more to say. "Fine, I'll have everything taken care of by then. It was nice knowing you Koenma, maybe we'll see each other around sometime." As he pushed himself up and out of his chair Koenma stood as well, most likely to show him out even though he already knew the way.

Koenma was at a loss for what to do, he knew the decision wasn't anything personal against him but why couldn't he be on the receiving end of such devotion? He was almost numb as he watched Yusuke walk towards the door, could he really let it end like this? "Yusuke wait!" Seeing the man stop for the briefest of moments made his heart clench. This couldn't be the end, he had to try. Walking towards his former lover purposefully he knew this was something he had to do. The look of surprise in Yusuke's eyes surprised him. Did he think he would let him go so easily? He might have never spoken the words but he loved the man before him. At one time the feelings were returned, perhaps they still were.

"Koenma?" Abruptly Yusuke found himself pushed further back into the room, gentle hands pressing against his chest. Warm lips sought his own even as he was lowered almost lovingly down to the desk. Surprise flooded him as those hands became insistent in their caresses and his mind ceased functioning for the briefest of moments as he tried to figure out what had come over Koenma. His hands came up to the demigod's shoulders and tried to push him away gently. He still cared for the man and he could feel the desperation emanating off of him but it still did not make this right. They had to stop. Pulling away from the heated kiss he groaned, Koenma always had been particularly talented with his tongue. "Koenma stop, we can't do this."

Elegant fingers slid up the Detective's arms, pushing them back until they were pinned to the desk. While Yusuke was the stronger of the two of them physically Koenma knew that the Toushin wouldn't hurt him. He needed this, he needed to feel man beneath him once more before he left him for good. "Just let me touch you Yusuke, one last time. That's all I ask." The body beneath his was warm and inviting, no matter what Yusuke said he could feel the desire coursing through him. The proof of the detective's desire was making itself known by pressing against his thigh. Shifting slightly, Koenma ground his own throbbing length along that heated flesh hoping to wear down any protests that might come.

Having been denied any release earlier, Yusuke's body ignored the protests his mind were screaming and responded to those torturous caresses that Koenma was giving him. Cursing his body to the lowest levels of hell as it pushed up against the taller man's body, Yusuke turned his head as Koenma tried to kiss him, trying to pull his hands free. He didn't want to hurt the demigod but he belonged to Hiei now, the apparition had been the one to heal his heart when he'd been cast aside. An understanding had formed between the two of them and he wasn't about to throw it away for a fling with his old lover. "Don't do this Koenma!"

Moving swiftly Koenma pressed needly lips to the slender neck presented before him and suckled gently on the tender skin. Yusuke's words may have said no but his body said yes, rocking insistently beneath him. The man's weak attempts at trying to pull his hands free had stopped, allowing him to do whatever he wished. In his mind he could only see the protests coming from the complications it would present with his father but at the moment he couldn't bring himself to care about the consequences. "You like the way I touch you Yusuke, don't deny it. I've missed this, I've missed you." Slowly he let go of the Detective's hands to run them over the man's chest, brushing against his nipples. Prior experience had given him knowledge of every sensitive spot on Yusuke's body and he intended to take full advantage of that fact.

Feeling his arms come free Yusuke braced his hands against Koenma chest once more even as the demigod's hands slid beneath his flimsy shirt. He opened his mouth to tell Koenma to get the hell off of him but those damnable fingers began tugging at his nipples, making his breath catch in his throat. The sound of the door sliding open barely reached his ears and he knew they had company. His mind hazed as Koenma continued oblivious to the interruption, most likely to far gone to realize they were being watched. Either that or he just didn't care. Vaguely the thought of Hiei's warning came to mind and he struggled to get up but with the Koenma pinning him so effectively it did little good.

Shock filled him at seeing the two of them together, practically fucking on the desk. It didn't matter that they still had their clothes on, the movements left nothing to the imagination as to what was going to happen. Anger quickly followed that shock, never would he have thought that something like this was possible. Yes, Koenma might try to put the moves on Yusuke but Hiei had believed that the Toushin wouldn't stand for it. Apparently he'd been wrong based on the way that Yusuke was moving beneath the taller man. His youki surged forth with his anger making the men laying on the desk jump in surprise. "I should kill the both of you. I never thought you'd betray me, not like this."

Roughly Yusuke pushed Koenma away, ignoring the surprised yelp that came from the man as he stumbled back roughly. He should have done this at the start instead of trying to be considerate. Now Hiei was there as he had promised should he not return on time and no doubt had the entire situation misconstrued as something entirely different than what it actually was. "Let me explain Hiei." As he stood up he winced at the way his erection rubbed against the rough denim, no things were definitely not looking good for him based upon the look that the apparition was giving him.

"Explain what? Don't give me that cliched line that it's not what I think. I don't think there is anyway for me to misunderstand just what is going on here." Without a doubt his lover was hard and it couldn't have been from when he had left earlier that much was for certain. Nor had Hiei heard any pleas from Yusuke for it to stop, not that he would have believed that the detective would ever allow someone like Koenma to overpower him unless he wanted it. Did they really believe that he was that stupid?

Koenma stared back and forth between the two of them, a sickening realization dawning in his mind. His fists clenched by his sides as he finally understood why Yusuke had tried turning him away. His Detective had moved on while he had remained stuck in the past and was now involved with Hiei. No wonder he refused to sign those papers, it would come in conflict with his new lover. Closing his eyes, Koenma took a deep breath. It would be so easy to go along with this and let Hiei think that Yusuke was to blame in this but it would hurt the man caught in the middle of this. If he were to remain silent, or worse yet agree with what Hiei was saying then the Toushin would never forgive him. "I'm sorry Hiei, I didn't know that the two of you were together." He didn't back down as that angry crimson glare turned on him, even if Hiei hated him in the end he had to explain what he had walked in on.

"It doesn't matter what you did or didn't know. He knew, that is enough." Hiei wanted nothing more than to pull his katana and run it through the two who had caused him such hurt and anger. He wouldn't cry, he was above doing such things but his rage would find another outlet that would most likely result in bloodshed. Too many times he had been betrayed in the past, he wouldn't allow this last time to go unpunished.

It was going to be hard to convince Hiei of the truth, Koenma could see that now. Had he been a mortal being he was certainly staring his own death in the eyes with the way the apparition glared at him. "He didn't have much of a choice." He held up a hand as soon as the hybrid began to protest. "Hear me out, more than once he to me to stop and I didn't. I... let my desire get the better of me and I lost sight of the fact that we can be only friends. Yusuke I'm sorry. If I had known that you had moved on..."

Yusuke ran his fingers through his hair in irritation. All of this because they wanted to keep their relationship under wraps. Still, he wasn't completely blameless in this. He should have been more forceful in pushing him away. At least now Hiei knew the truth, hopefully it would be enough to smooth things over. "I just.. We should have told you Koenma and I'm sorry but.. Let's just forget this ever happened."

The world was going to hell, of this Hiei was certain. Forget this happened? After what he had just walked in on and the still prominent bulge in the Detective's pants he thought they could just forget about this? Koenma had still trespassed upon his territory and Yusuke had been enjoying it. There was another option open to him that didn't involve blood shed, one he would enjoy immensely. It was time to teach them both a lesson neither one would forget. Turning a hateful glare on the demigod he barked an order. "Sit down in that chair, it's time you learned your place with the Detective. I will no longer tolerate such interference from the likes of you."

Koenma raised an eyebrow at the order and nearly protested at being told what to do in his own office but stopped when the apparition yanked off his cloak. He'd only seen him do that for one reason and that was when he was preparing to beat the hell out of someone. Would he take violent action for the indiscretion? Koenma wasn't certain but based on the power levels the hybrid was throwing off he wasn't certain he wanted to find out. Warily he moved to the chair indicated and sat down, never taking his eyes off of the demon before him.

Seeing his compliance Hiei then turned to his lover who was watching him with a small amount of trepidation. Yusuke needed to be punished as well, he had broken their agreement to never let another touch him. There was only one way he knew of to drive the point home to the both of them and that was by publicly enforcing his claim upon the man. It helped that the detective was still aroused even with everything going on. More than once he had thought to himself that hormones would be Yusuke's undoing and now he had been proven right. His stance was predatory as he stalked the Detective, he was going to enjoy this.

"Hiei what are you up to?" The smell of the apparition's arousal was powerful and for a moment Yusuke was confused. Hadn't only moments ago this been the same demon that was ready to decapitate the both of them? Sword calloused hands fisted in his shirt and dragged him down to Hiei's level so that their lips met. His eyes widened considerably as a hot tongue forced it's way into his mouth and took possession of it. It was brutal the way Hiei plundered his mouth, the taste of blood filling both of their mouths as small fangs pierced his skin.

The struggle was minimal as he proved to Yusuke just who he belonged to. His hands made their way down to the man's waistband and roughly pulled the buttons free. There was nothing soft and tender in his caress as he grabbed the semi-erect length and began stroking it. Knowing Yusuke wouldn't object to the rough treatment was a bonus, the man always had liked to be dominated. His sensitive hearing picked up the sounds of Koenma standing up but he was unsure whether it was his intention to leave the room entirely or try to join in. It was no matter, he would permit neither. Breaking away from the kiss he sneered over at the demigod, a trickle of blood making its way down his chin. "I won't tell you again, sit your ass down before I make you." To prove his point the Jagan flared a bright violet, reminding the demigod that he could indeed make it happen.

When Hiei pulled away his mind cleared and Yusuke realized exactly what it was Hiei was attempting to do. What was surprising was that he hadn't progressed straight to pinning the demigod in the chair. A quick look to Koenma showed him the pain in the godlings eyes and he pushed against Hiei's chest. What they were doing wasn't right, it was obvious Koenma still cared about him and to force him to watch such a thing just didn't sit well with him. "Stop Hiei." In answer to his demands his shirt was ripped away and tossed carelessly to the ground.

'So he thinks to control the situation does he?'Angrily he grabbed a handful of Yusuke's hair and tugged him back down. He could see the anger beginning to build in those dark brown eyes but his decision would not be swayed. "You both need to learn a valuable lesson. Don't worry Yusuke, you'll get off and when we are done there will be no doubt in his mind that you are mine. Now turn around."

It was tempting to refuse to do what the apparition had said and when he didn't move strong hands gripped his waist and forced him to face down onto the desk, turning his head to the side his eyes met Koenma's, the godling had a perfect view of every single move that was made. Short of an all out fight in the middle of the room Yusuke knew there would be no arguing with the apparition. Abruptly his pants were yanked to the floor and a black clad leg forced it's way between his and spread them apart. The air in the room was cool, only serving to further sensitize his bare skin. Even as his mind told him this wasn't right, that Hiei was carrying his anger too far he couldn't stop the shudder of pleasure that coursed through his body as a warm hand wrapped around his cock once more. Moments later he felt the first touches of saliva slicked fingers against his ass he groaned. "Hiei..."

The apparition knew that tone well, it was one of anticipation of what he knew was coming. Slowly he pushed the finger through the tight ring of muscle that tried to bar him entrance into those warm depths. His lover arched his back, hissing at the momentary discomfort but Hiei knew that there wouldn't be any further protests from the man. Already precum, was dripping from the tip of the shaft he was stroking and it wouldn't be long before Yusuke was begging for more. He couldn't stop the smirk that crossed his face as he caught a glimpse of Koenma shifting uncomfortably, no doubt distraught by what he was seeing. The thrusting movement of his fingers ceased only when it was time to add a second one and begin preparing the Detective for what was to come.

Yusuke welcomed the pain as a second finger invaded his body and the slow pumping resumed once more. Every so often a featherlight touch would hit his sweet spot making him cry out for more. Gone were the thoughts of their audience, all that remained was the sweet pleasure he was experiencing as those fingers continued their sensuous torture. His hair fell forward into his eyes as he laid his cheek against the cool surface of the desk and his whimpers of pleasure filled the room. "Gods that feels good."

His knuckles were white as Koenma gripped the arms of the chair, watching the spiteful demonstration being put on for his benefit. Wordlessly he stood, intent on leaving the room. He couldn't watch this, not anymore. He could feel the Jagan's power being unleashed as he was pushed back into his chair and bands of energy pinned him in place. Glaring at the apparition he silently demanded to be freed but the demon just continued working Yusuke's body over. Now that he was pinned in place he was powerless to leave, he couldn't overcome the bonds of the Jagan without the use of his pacifier and even then he doubted he could defeat the fire apparition when he was in this mood. It would take centuries for his powers to regenerate to the point they were before the fight with Sensui.

"You will watch and learn. Yusuke is mine, you shall never touch him again." Pulling his fingers free, his hand went to his pants and released the sash that held them closed. Kicking off his boots he then skid the material over his hips. Black fabric pooled to the floor as he stepped free of them and his hand went to his weeping member, began to stroke it slowly. As precum oozed from the tip he began coating his length with it in preparation for the fucking he was about to do. Certain that he was ready and his lover wouldn't be an in excessive amount of pain he began to force his way in, grunting with the effort of pushing into Yusuke's body.

Yusuke tried to relax, knowing that if he didn't it would be more painful. Frankly he was surprised the apparition was being even this considerate but he knew that what little generosity Hiei had at the moment wouldn't last long. The hard length continued to work its way into him until it was fully sheathed within the hot channel, pausing only a moment before retreating once more. As he felt the hands on his hips tense until claws were digging into his skin Yusuke knew he was in for it.

Unwilling to hold back any longer Hiei lunged forward, driving his cock hard into the Detective's body. A ruthless pace was set as he took the Toushin, pulling forth cries of pain mixed with pleasure from his lover. He would feel the burning gaze of the demigod and turned his head to watch him. He could see the shame and hatred in the man's amber eyes but at the same time the lust that betrayed his desire and proved that he wanted to take a part in the depraved act taking place. His voice was husky with desire as he addressed the man bound to the chair, his pleasure in what was taking place clear for any who cared to listen. "Take a good look Koenma because this is the closest you'll ever come to fucking my detective again."

A whine escaped Yusuke's lips when a particularly vicious thrust assaulted his prostate. It was quickly followed by another and then yet another as the apparition became determined with making him scream. A slender hand fisted in his hair, forcing him to arch up and brace his arms against the desk while the other gripped his hip and helped pull him back making each thrust that much harder. "Fuck!"

Sweat trickled down his face as Hiei continued the frantic pace and fought off his own release. The Detective hadn't screamed enough, hadn't pleaded enough for what he was offering. Only once he was satisfied that Yusuke understood who was the alpha in this relationship would he give into the pleasure that threatened to overwhelm him. "You like the way I fuck you don't you Detective? The way my cock fills that tight ass. Scream my name Detective and I might just let you cum."

Yusuke was on the verge of plunging over the edge anyway and was only stopped from doing so when Hiei's hand found the base of his cock and squeezed harshly. "Dammit!" Not for the first time Yusuke cursed the demon who was buried deep within him, he knew what would drive him right to the edge and it was his enjoyment of the perverse which almost always made the apparition keep him right on the brink. Another ruthless thrust of that thick cock wedged so deeply within him had him nearly sobbing, aching for release. "Please Hiei! I can't.. I can't go on!" He needed release now!

"You can and you will!" Hiei could feel the how Yusuke's body demanded satisfaction but he didn't think Koenma had seen enough yet. Pulling out quickly he dragged Yusuke away from the desk and dragged him to the floor right in front of the bound demigod. As the Detective's back collided with the floor he settled down between those spread legs and sheathed himself again in one smooth motion. Crimson eyes burned with desire and hatred as he stared into those amber eyes watching them, seeming locked on where he was joined with the Detective. By now Yusuke was writhing beneath him, his pleas for more barely comprehensible.

Koenma couldn't tear his eyes away from the sight before him. Never before had he seen Yusuke driven to such lengths, pleading for the abandon that would come with his release. It was a sight to be envied to say the least, he had never been able to drive the Detective to such heights of pleasure. His eyes lingered over the sword calloused hand that wrapped itself around Yusuke's swollen shaft and began to stroke it harshly, his ears ringing with the keening wails that escaped his former lover's lips as he came. Semen coated the man's chest and neck as his release hit him hard. The apparition was only moments behind, emptied his seed deep within Yusuke's body. In that moment he had never felt such envy, nor hatred before in his life.

A self satisfied smirk crossed his face as Hiei struggled to keep from collapsing onto Yusuke's prone form. He was exhausted but it had been well worth it in the end. The look on Koenma's face made the sadistic side of him swell with pleasure. No longer would their be any doubts as to his position in either of their lives. His hatred was a petty concern, there was nothing that he could do about their relationship.

"You bastard." Yusuke panted as he laid there, there was no doubt about just how badly he was going to hurt in a few minutes. At this rate he'd be lucky to be able to walk without wincing with every step and even though he had enjoyed what Hiei had done it didn't erase the humiliation he had just been put through. A glare made it's way onto his face as he stared up at his lover who was drawing lazy patterns in the semen covering his chest, reminding him of just how much he had enjoyed what had just happened as well.

"You've always known this, don't act like it's some startling revelation." Pulling his sticky fingers away from the sweaty flesh beneath him he brought them to his mouth and flicked his tongue over them, making certain that Koenma was watching his every move. Reluctantly he pulled away from Yusuke's body and grabbed the discarded shirt that was nearby to clean his shaft and Yusuke's body.

The act that he had just witnessed disturbed him but he was in no small part bothered by the fact that even throughout all the distraction Hiei had never once lost control of the binds that had held him. Even now they kept him secured to the chair, another annoyance that needed to be rectified. "You can let me go now. You've proven your point, both of you."

Smirking at the tone of the demigod's voice, Hiei stood and walked over to his clothing. Pulling his pants on he waited until they were secured in place before he looked back over to the Detective who was doing the same. Seeing they were about ready to depart, Hiei snapped the bonds holding the demigod to his chair and allowed him to stand up. Arrogantly he waited to see if the prince of the dead was going to try anything in retaliation. While he might have been tired he was by no means exhausted in youki. Should Koenma choose to do anything for what had just happened he was more than willing to see just how much damage he could do to the godling.

Ignoring the look the apparition was giving him, Koenma walked towards the desk that Yusuke had so recently been laying on and sat in his chair. "I trust you two know the way out, since Hiei arrived without help I'm sure that he can help you get home Yusuke." His voice was heavy with bitterness as he stared at them both. They were all to blame for what had occurred but it rankled him that Yusuke had enjoyed himself so much when he knew that he was watching. "Our... business is finished Yusuke. Good bye."

It was a clear dismissal if ever he had heard one and for once Yusuke was at a loss for what to say. Seeing the way Koenma had closed himself off to any discussion anyway he decided to just go. Besides, once they arrived home he intended on having a very long talk with Hiei about this little stunt that he had just pulled. "Fine, see ya." Without another word Yusuke walked out of the room, followed closely by his lover who was glaring at everyone they passed. Whispers reached their ears and there was no doubt that everyone knew just what had been going on in that office. 'Let them talk, it's not like I give a fuck what they think anyway.'

Hiei knew that Yusuke was angry, he'd have to be dead in order to miss the violent way his aura was lashing out. It didn't matter though, now that the issue had been settled once Yusuke calmed down things would return to normal. Injured pride was preferable to being dead, which had been a very real possibility for the Detective had he chosen the more commonly used option. Wordlessly he followed the Toushin through the Reikai, only taking the lead once they were at the secret portal that would take them home. An explosion was coming he knew and as expected, it came as soon as they had gotten home and the door slammed behind them.

"What the fuck were you thinking?" His anger had been simmering ever since they had left and Hiei hadn't bothered to even attempt to apologize for humiliating him like that. Not that he'd really been expecting him to do so, still it might have helped to appease his bruised ego. "I can't believe you would do that you asshole!" Yusuke was sorely tempted to beat the hell out of his lover for what had happened but he knew it wouldn't do any good. While the apparition had been in the wrong, he and Koenma had crossed the line first.

"What was I thinking?" Hiei turned to look at the irate Toushin, a look of boredom on his face. The fact that Yusuke's tattoos were beginning to show through did nothing to impress him. "I could ask you the same thing Yusuke. Not only did you not do a good enough job of turning him down you were enjoying yourself. I don't think my motives are the ones that should be questioned." Seeing Yusuke flinch only proved he had hit a nerve with that remark. Now that it was over, Hiei was willing to let it drop but if Yusuke was going to persist in dragging all of this out into the open then it was fine with him.

"Fuck you Hiei, you're the one who was fucking with me when I left earlier. Of course after that anything is going to feel good, it's not like I asked him to keep it up. In fact I told him no!" A nagging voice in his head told him that was no excuse but he desperately clung to it, needing something to hold onto that would explain his bodies reaction.

Sighing heavily, Hiei regarded the man before him. He wasn't sure what bothered him worse, the fact that Koenma had been able to get a reaction out of him or that Yusuke seemed to believe he was completely innocent. "Apparently you weren't convincing enough then. Regardless you seem to be forgetting your own involvement in this so I'll make it easy on you. Do you still have any attachments to Koenma, I want to know now. If you do then I'll return to the Reikai... and finish this." The deadly intent in his words were clear from the tone he used.

"You can't be serious." Even after everything that had just happened Hiei was still insecure on where he stood? Or was this petty jealousy rearing its ugly head? Either way he wasn't about to stand there and listen to Hiei question his loyalty. After all, he was giving up his entire life here in the Ningenkai to ensure that nothing came between them.

"I am. Choose Detective, if your loyalty to the Reikai and Koenma make it impossible for you to keep your dick in your pants then either I eliminate the threat or we end this now. Make your choice." A small spark of fear made its home in Hiei's chest that perhaps Yusuke would choose Koenma over him before he ruthlessly crushed it. Yusuke would never turn from him, they'd been through too much together and understood each other as no one else ever could. He might be mad now but he would see reason and give the right answer.

"Go to hell Hiei. I've never been unfaithful to you yet and it's sickening to hear what you really think of me." The urge to strike Hiei warred with the need to leave before he did or said something he couldn't take back. Neither of them were good at expression emotions unless it was anger and at the moment Yusuke knew that wouldn't help. He needed to take a few minutes to calm down and while he could see Hiei's point with what he had witnessed walking into that office hearing the words still hurt. Without waiting to see the apparition's reaction he walked into the bedroom and slammed the door behind him.

For several long moments Hiei stared at that closed door, not willing to believe what had just happened. All he wanted was to be assured that the Detective harbored no hidden feelings for Koenma and Yusuke had told him to go to hell. Perhaps his lover would come out momentarily as he was inclined to do on the occasions that they fought. But as the minutes slowly passed by and resolved into an hour Hiei had to face the fact that Yusuke had made his decision. Casting one last forlorn look at the door the apparition turned and left the house. Right now he was unsure of where he wanted to go but he needed to get away from the pain that threatened to overwhelm him. He wouldn't go back and beg for Yusuke to reconsider though, his pride wouldn't allow him to do such a thing and if the Detective wanted someone else then he wasn't going to stick around to watch it happen.

As he walked beneath the darkened sky, the stars above shown down on him and the moonlight bathed him in it's gentle light. Normally this was his favorite time, when he could become one with the shadows and darkness but he paid it no mind this time. His feet carried him to a familiar house as he continued to numb himself to the pain he was experiencing. There was only one person left who could possibly understand what he was feeling at the moment, one person who could perhaps help him to overcome the situation. Relying on others had never been a strong point but then again he had never experienced anything like this before. Love was for fools and sadly enough he had become one of those idiots he had once scorned for feeling such a ridiculous emotion.

"Hiei? What are you doing here?" Certain that he had felt the demon's approach Kurama had left the comfort of his own home. Even on the rare occasions that the apparition stopped by he almost always concealed his youki, making it nearly impossible to sense him. For him to blatantly broadcast his presence so meant he was either looking for a fight or he was so distracted that he didn't even realize he was doing so.

A snort then, somehow he was unsurprised to see the kitsune. "I'm walking, what does it look like?" Really, Kurama should be used to his peevishness by now but even that comment seemed to take the kitsune back slightly though little showed outwardly on his face. Even though he had made the trip this far to speak with Kurama it didn't mean he was about to spill his guts at the drop of a hat.

"I see. Well then, if you're so inclined to join me inside then I will welcome the company. If not, enjoy your walk." Leaving the options out for the apparition to decide, Kurama turned and made his way back to the house. Hiei had always been welcome in his home though most of the time he didn't bother stopping by. Truthfully he was rather surprised to see him, usually when he ventured into the Ningenkai it was only to see Yusuke and check up on Yukina.

Shrugging his shoulders, Hiei fell in step with the kitsune and followed himself. Stopping only long enough to kick his boots off he then continued into the living room and waved off Kurama's offer of tea. He couldn't help but wonder if Yusuke had realized he finally left and if the man was relieved that he was gone. An image of Yusuke turning from him sprung to mind, replaying how the Detective hadn't even bothered to look back at him.

Silently Kurama watched the apparition from across the room, taking in even the slightest detail about the man. The scent of sex was heavy upon him so he knew that he had come upon Yusuke recently. The scent of intense anger was also present as well as the puzzling scent of the Reikai. Had there been some sort of mission recently that he hadn't been informed of? Somehow he doubted it. There was a distant look in Hiei's eyes that he hadn't seen in such depth in a very long time. "Would you like to talk about it?"

Did he want to? Hiei really wasn't sure anymore. Perhaps he was looking at this wrong and the Kitsune would be able to point something out he had been missing. Yet at the same time he wasn't sure that he wanted Kurama to know that he was so disposable that his lover would discard him for someone who had tossed him away like yesterday's newspaper. "Yusuke was once involved with Koenma."

"I know but what does this have to do with anything?" The brief relationship that their friend had becoming involved in with Koenma had been a long time ago, ancient history that should have been left buried. Even Kuwabara could see how devoted Yusuke was to the apparition sitting across from him now so why bring up the past? Unless something had happened that none of them could have foreseen. Kurama leaned forward in his seat, his chin resting on his hand as he gazed at Hiei with those secretive eyes that could pull even the darkest secrets from the pits of your soul.

Hiei turned from those intense eyes and stared out into the darkness beyond the window. "Yusuke made a trip to the Reikai today to sign his documentation to remain in the Ningenkai. I found them together.... and they weren't discussing paperwork." Nails bit into his flesh as he remembered the way Yusuke moved beneath the godling. How could he have been so blind? Perhaps it was better to have found out now.

Shock was the primary reaction upon hearing those words. Never in his wildest dreams would have Kurama suspected that Yusuke was capable of doing such a thing but there was always a first for everything. There was no scent of blood on Hiei aside from his own which was steadily seeping into his cloak from his hands but he still had to ask. "Is he dead?" The apparition would have been well within his rights to have killed Yusuke for such an indiscretion. Not even his feelings of friendship for the man could stand in the way of Hiei's choice, had the apparition killed the Detective by demon law he would have had to accept it.

"No, I did not kill them. Instead I asserted my claim upon him as was my right." It was only Koenma's explanation that had saved the man's life. Hiei was on equal ground with Yusuke now power wise. In close confines and with emotions so volatile he would have had the clear advantage, Yusuke's life would have been forfeit. But instead he chose to allow him to live and now, he was alone once more. Life truly was a bitch.

Nodding to himself Kurama was a bit surprised that the apparition had taken such an action. Normally he was much harsher in punishing those who had wronged him, somehow though he doubted that Yusuke would have appreciated nor understood using such a punishment. Most likely the man had been livid at the treatment which might explain why Hiei was here now. "How did he take it?"

For a moment Hiei just stared at him as if he were looking at Kuwabara. Just how did he think Yusuke would have taken such a thing? Being born and raised a human meant that their ways and customs were foreign to him. The punishment was meant to be humiliating in the first place but for someone who didn't know the significance behind it? "He took it like a human Kurama. Did you really think he would smile and thank me for what happened?"

Kurama sighed, realizing he should have expected as much. There were times it was entirely too easy to forget that he was once a human. It lead to complications such as these. "I take it you didn't explain it to him either." Fortunately for all concerned Yusuke tended to get over his anger quickly but it still didn't explain why he was with Koenma to begin with. "So is he staying with Koenma now? How did this even happen? I thought they were over each other."

"Apparently not, though Koenma did admit that Yusuke was not the one to start it. He was certainly enjoying it though. I don't know how it exactly came about. Yusuke didn't give me a chance to explain, when I told him to make a decision about who he wanted... He chose.. I was told to go to hell and he walked out of the room." Even as he replayed the events and taking into account a 'human's' feelings none of it made sense. Did the Detective really think he'd put up with sharing? The very idea was inconceivable.

'Well that explains things.' Kurama sighed heavily, wondering just where this was going to put them. Of course, most of the time Hiei remained in the Makai and didn't come across the others. But he still looked in on Yukina from time to time and that lead to the possibility of the group coming together again. While Hiei's pain was well masked it was there for anyone who knew what to look for. "Perhaps he wasn't thinking clearly and it was the anger speaking. Once he calms down it will be easier to judge."

Personally Hiei saw little point it, he'd waited for an hour of some sign from Yusuke. It wasn't as if the man had fallen asleep, or went to take a shower. No, he sat in the room and did nothing. No sounds came from within, just an emptiness that confirmed one of his worst fears. Still, he had nothing to lose by waiting around to see if the Detective changed his mind. Mukuro wasn't expecting him back for another three days and he did enjoy the rare breaks he got from border patrol. He already knew Kurama wouldn't mind him hanging around the place until it was time for him to leave.

~*~

Yusuke tipped the beer bottle slightly as he stared at the amber liquid within. Normally he didn't drink and when he did it wasn't to excess, dealing with his mother had put a stop to that. But even now as he looked at the clock he couldn't help but take another drink. This was his second one, the rest of the six pack sat in the fridge and he was determined not to touch them. But even as he pushed the bottle away he wondered why the hell he was bothering. It had been two days and Hiei still hadn't come back. It was tempting to go after him but what would he say?

Truthfully he didn't know. Looking back on it now he realized why the apparition had disappeared, his wording had been poor when he walked out of the room and it was likely that Hiei had taken that as his answer. Did it mean he wouldn't return? Yusuke ran a hand through his hair in irritation. Hiei wasn't usually one to give up but in this instance there was every possibility he had lost him for good. The time alone had given his temper a chance to cool. Had what happened in Koenma's office mattered that badly? When he thought about it he had decided it wasn't worth losing the apparition over. After he returned to the Makai it was unlikely he'd ever see Koenma again and no one else had actually witnessed it. The few that had heard never left the Reikai anyway.

It was entirely possible that the apparition had returned to the Makai immediately upon leaving and while he was thinking on going after him Yusuke rolled the idea around of heading straight to demon world. The problem was once he left he couldn't return, what if Hiei hadn't left the Ningenkai yet? Another question was would Hiei even listen to him when he tried to explain he hadn't been making his decision right that moment, he'd merely needed some time to cool down. Granted, it had taken several hours before he was ready to face his lover but by then Hiei had been long gone.

Random places crossed his mind about where to look for him but most were unlikely locations. Genkai's figured prominently on that list but at the same time he doubted the apparition would head there. Yukina would instantly know he was troubled about something and Hiei wouldn't want to burden his sister with their problems. That left the forest which he was loath to search because it would be near impossible if the man didn't want to be found. The other possibility was Kurama's house which had appeal. The fox always welcomed the apparition's company and for the longest time he had been envious of the easy way they got along. Of course that had all changed when Hiei had finally approached him. It had come as a shock to find that they weren't lovers, nor had they any intentions of becoming so.

If anyone would know where Hiei was it would likely be the fox. Of course, Yusuke wasn't exactly looking forward to facing Kurama's questioning if he didn't know what had happened already. Then again there was the high chance that the kitsune did indeed know what was going on and in that case it just might be worse since he would have only heard Hiei's interpretation. Still, it was a better lead than nothing and with that in mind he dumped the near empty beer bottle in the trash can before heading to the door and putting his shoes on. Thankfully Kurama's house was well within walking distance, he should be there in ten minutes tops if he hurried.

"Fucking lovely." Yusuke looked up at the sky when he heard the thunder making itself known. Of course it would be just his luck if the sky opened up on top of him. As the first few rain drops struck the earth he decided that if he didn't want to get soaked he needed to move his ass. It would seem other people had the same idea as they scurried for cover, he could hear the rain picking up its intensity but it hadn't caught up to him yet. Pushing himself just a bit faster he flew by those that didn't have enough sense to move.

By the time he reached the kitsune's house he was just a bit damp and more than a little bit irritated. Quickly he pounded on the door, hoping that Kurama would answer it before he became a drown rat. "Kurama! Open up!" As he yelled for his friend he scanned the area for any trace of Hiei. As he had expected, the faintest trace of youki could be found meaning that the apparition had indeed been by. But he wasn't there any longer most likely, he couldn't sense anything stronger.

"Yusuke. What a pleasant surprise." Kurama had opened the door in mid knock and was nearly struck by the pounding fist. Really, even if it was raining Yusuke needed to learn some better manners. Hiei had sensed the man coming long before he had arrived and they had debated whether or not he should speak with him. At the moment the apparition was being more than a little difficult, believing that Yusuke wasn't actually there for him. As such the hybrid pulled a fast disappearing act but Kurama had no doubts that he was nearby and probably listening to every single word that was being said.

As the door had opened Yusuke had caught Hiei's distinctive scent. It would seem that he hadn't missed the apparition by much, assuming that the hybrid wasn't still there and concealing himself. Frustrated the Detective tried to peer around Kurama's shoulder to take a peek but the door wasn't very far open. "Shit Kurama it's raining out here. Are you going to leave me to get soaked or can I come inside?" Yusuke was almost certain that Kurama had heard Hiei's version of the tale by now, otherwise he'd have been ushered inside as soon as the door had been opened.

"My apologies Yusuke, of course you may come in." There was no doubt in Kurama's mind who the Detective was here for. The attempts to see if Hiei was there hadn't been subtle in the least. Stepping aside he moved out of the doorway to allow the Toushin inside. "Wait here and I'll get you a towel." After seeing how morose his partner had been these past two days he wasn't inclined to be that charitable towards Yusuke but he'd be damned if he allowed his carpets and furniture to get wet in the process of this visit. As he made his way to the linen closet down the hallway a flash of black caught his eye and his bedroom door slid closed. Hiei was doing an admirable job of cloaking himself. Casting a glance over his shoulder he was thankful to see that Yusuke hadn't caught that fleeting glimpse of the apparition.

As Kurama returned with a towel in hand Yusuke took it gratefully and began drying his hair. His clothes weren't in that bad of a condition thankfully and would dry out shortly, he'd just be a bit chilled in the meantime. He could feel the kitsune's eyes on him, waiting for him to say something. Of course he'd never been one to beat around the bush so he decided to get straight to the point. "I need to speak to Hiei, do you know where he disappeared to?"

"I'm sorry Yusuke, I cannot tell you where Hiei is at the moment." On instinct Kurama fell into an analytical mindset, gaging Yusuke's every reaction. His wording was open to interpretation which could be read in a couple of different ways however he knew that the Detective wasn't likely to be put off so easily.

Something about the way Kurama had said that raised warning bells in Yusuke's mind. The smooth tone of voice, a careless shrug of the shoulders. Once you knew Kurama as well as he did it became easier to figure out when you were being put off or were being prodded into chasing a false lead. Narrowing his eyes at the redhead, Yusuke ceased in his efforts to dry himself. "Don't bullshit me Kurama, I know he was here. All I want to do is talk to him, he's free to make his own decisions after I've said my peace."

"You're right, he was here but that doesn't mean that he is now." Kurama slightly inclined his head, looking down at the Toushin. "What makes you think that Hiei wants to speak to you anyway? From what I heard you made your choice from the moment you decided to get back together with Koenma." If Yusuke thought that he was going to get away without shouldering some of the responsibility in this instance he was sadly mistaken.

"What the hell do you know? I am not back with Koenma, I never was. Hiei knows this, it was explained to him in the office and he accepted it. I wasn't the one that decided to get all pissy and pull some macho assertion bullshit in front of our boss." Why the hell was he even bothering trying to justify himself to Kurama? He hadn't been there, he didn't know what had happened. There was no reason for this interrogation, all he wanted was to find Hiei and try to work this shit out.

"Let me explain something to you Yusuke and it would behoove you to pay attention since you live by our laws now. When a demon with a claim on them cheats or takes the step towards being unfaithful as you did, their consort is within their rights to kill them and their lover. Had it been me in that room you would be dead right now. Short of Koenma raping you which I believe is an impossibility you would have had no excuse. No way to justify what you did." Kurama narrowed his eyes as he watched Yusuke's reaction. Anger was certainly among them but also realization. Could it be that Yusuke was finally beginning to understand that even though Hiei looked to be human his instincts were completely different? Slowly he stalked towards the Detective who refused to back down. "Be grateful Hiei has more restraint than I do. You got off lightly."

Yusuke had always known that Kurama had a cold, dark side that could put Hiei's to shame but he'd only seen it directed at his opponents. Now with that hard gaze staring down at him Yusuke was barely able to repress the chill that snaked down his spine. Demon ways were still more than a little strange to him and hearing Kurama put it so bluntly made him wonder. Could Hiei or Kurama be so willing to kill someone they professed to care for? One look into those cold emerald eyes told him yes.

Seeing he had the man's attention Kurama pressed on though his relaxed stance belied just how serious he found Yusuke's transgressions. His appearance always had been deceptive in that respect. "A word of advice Yusuke.... If you aren't willing to keep your hands to yourself when you have someone who would kill for you then do us all a favor and leave him to someone who will appreciate what he has to offer." Few knew how greatly the apparition had suffered in his life and at this point Kurama wasn't certain how much Hiei had told Yusuke of his past. If all that was going to continue out of this relationship was mistrust and betrayal it was better to end it now.

Those words caused Yusuke to bristle in anger and his youki spiked incredibly high. If Kurama thought he was going to just let Hiei go he was sorely mistaken. "Leave him to someone else? You mean like you?" The thought that the kitsune could use this as a way to take Hiei from him caused him to completely change into his majin form. "I've already said this once Kurama, I'm going to talk to Hiei. We are going to work this out and I'll be damned if you or anyone else is going to stop me. Now let me give you a piece of advise. Step down, I'd hate to have to fight you Kurama but if you try and take him from me you'll find out just what happens first hand when someone tries to take someone that belongs to me."

Kurama nodded slightly, somehow not surprised that Yusuke had changed forms. He was acting just as a demon protecting his consort should. If they managed to work this out somehow it was likely that one of them would finally put an end to this indecisiveness and claim the other as their mate instead of leaving things up to chance. "Then I suggest you figure out just what it is you want Yusuke. Assuming that Hiei wants to speak to you, if you aren't even sure of your own desires you can be guaranteed he won't take you seriously. Now if you don't mind, I have things I must be doing."

It was a dismissal that clearly meant he wasn't going to get any further information out of Kurama. If the kitsune wasn't going to help then he'd have to find the apparition on his own and make him understand. "Fine. If you see Hiei let him know I was here." Somehow he doubted that Kurama would even do that much for him at this point but if their friendship meant anything then there was a slight hope. Handing the redhead the towel he made his way out the door and back out into the rain. With luck Hiei was still in the area.

Turning from the hallway Kurama made his way to the master bedroom and stepped inside. He'd hated having to choose sides as he had done but in this instance he had to agree with Hiei's point of view. A demon's instinctive desire to keep their loved ones close was too strong to be denied when they found someone worth having. "He's gone now. I'm sure you heard everything, what do you want to do?"

Silently Hiei moved to the window and stared at the figure retreating down the sidewalk. Yusuke had certainly sounded convinced of what he wanted but was it enough? He still hadn't addressed the issue of making his choice when he walked away. There was a determination in the Detective's stride as he moved further into the distance, it would seem that he was hell bent on getting his way. It would take no time to reach the man if he wanted to hear what he had to say but still he hesitated. "He made his choice Kurama, why should I be the one to crawl to him?"

It was taking a chance but when Kurama saw the indecision in Hiei's eyes he decided to take a gamble. "Do you still want him? Or are you willing to move on and forget him?" Slowly he walked over towards the apparition, laying a hand gently on his shoulder. When Hiei turned to look at him in surprise he lowered his head but stopped just shy of touching the hybrid's lips. "Yusuke is not the only one in the world who can make you happy, but only you can decide whether or not you want to keep searching."

Feeling the kitsune's warm breath ghosting across his lips made him pull back instinctively. Regardless of what Yusuke had come close to doing, Hiei had no desire to be touched by any other. Kurama was taking a horrible risk with his own safety by approaching him so. Growling low in his chest he warned Kurama off. He was fairly certain he knew exactly what game Kurama was playing and he didn't like it. It might be working to prove to him just how strong his feelings were for the Detective but that still didn't mean he appreciated what the fox was doing.

Seeing his goal was accomplished Kurama stepped back a respectful distance and allowed Hiei to relax once more. The apparition's actions proved to him just what direction he would take. Had he been ready to end all aspects of his relationship with Yusuke then he might have been receptive to his advances. Sex between friends wasn't an common occurance provided those involved weren't in a committed relationship. "Go to him Hiei, somehow I do not believe that the answer to your question was a no. I believe he was trying to calm down enough to consider things rationally."

A glance out the window proved to him that the Detective was now out of sight but that meant little. "I hope you are right." Standing up Hiei made his way out the door intent on catching his lover. Only time would tell whether or not Yusuke was ready to put this behind them or not. Anticipation and dread coursed through him as he made his way after the Toushin. With any luck the answer he would receive wouldn't destroy his last hopes that they could work this out.

Yusuke had gotten three blocks away and was making his way towards the forest in hopes that Hiei had gone there. However he stopped when he felt a whisper of youki coming towards him. There was no mistaking just who it was this time and he turned to see Hiei standing maybe thirty feet from him. The man looked impassive as they stared at each other and Yusuke couldn't help but wonder if the hybrid had even thought of him at all during the time they had been apart. "I've been looking for you. Can we talk?"

Slowly Hiei made his way towards Yusuke, the man looked like hell standing there in the rain. He couldn't help but wonder if his lover had gotten any sleep whatsoever while he had been gone. His nose wrinkled slightly when he got close enough to smell him. Apparently he hadn't bothered with a shower since that day. He still reeked of sex and now the smell of beer. "That's why I am here. I heard you wanted to speak to me, what is it?"

"I've been thinking and... hell I'm not even sure of what I'm trying to say. Look, I don't understand why you did what you did. I mean yeah, I got off so it's obvious I enjoyed myself but that's not the point." Yusuke brushed his wet bangs out of his eyes as he tried to get his point across, he never was good at this talking crap. He'd almost say they should move under cover but he didn't want to lose what might be the only change he had to talk to the apparition. He couldn't begin to think of what Hiei was thinking. As it was he was standing there impassively, most likely wanting him to get on with it. "I know I was wrong for what happened between me and Koenma, I know that and when you gave me that choice I blew up. I had to walk away before I said something stupid."

Seeing Yusuke struggle with the words nearly brought a smirk to his face. Maybe Kurama had been right, he'd misjudged what had happened when Yusuke had walked out. "My question still stands detective." He watched the man carefully as he walked towards him, waiting to hear what the answer would be. As he came within arms reach Yusuke wrapped his arms around him. He stiffened in the embrace, not being overly fond of public displays of affection but this once he'd allow it. He was wet, Yusuke was downright soaked but for a moment it seemed as if everything would be alright.

The moment only lasted for a second before Yusuke tensed and buried his nose down into the apparition's wet hair. His normal scent was marred with that of roses, the unique fragrance that followed Kurama no matter where he went. While he knew that Hiei had been to the kitsune's house it didn't explain why the scent cloaked him. For it to blanket him that heavily they had to have had extended contact of some sort and his mind was all to happy to supply the worst images possible. Coupled with what had just happened the day before and Yusuke immediately came to the wrong conclusion. As if he had been burned he dropped his arms and stepped back, anger and pain apparent on his face. "And here I thought you came to talk to me about the chance of working all this out. When were you going to tell me Hiei?"

Baffled at this quick turn in attitude Hiei stared at him in confusion for several long moments before scowling. "What the hell are you talking about Detective? I don't have anything to tell you, it was you who was supposed to be apologizing to me remember?" The sinking suspicion that things were only going to get worse settled in his gut as once more Yusuke stepped away from him. This was certainly not working out as he had planned but he wasn't sure how to fix it. He didn't even know what Yusuke meant by his question.

"I get it, so you weren't going to tell me. Playing innocent now Hiei? I'm not stupid!" This would have been one time that it would have been good for Hiei to remember he wasn't normal anymore. Before he might not have picked up on Kurama's scent upon him but while he was in majin form his sense of smell had intensified. There was no mistaking that scent. Kurama had been close to him and recently. The smell of sex was absent but that could just mean that he had taken a shower recently. Still seeing the feigned confusion Yusuke decided to come straight to the point and prove that he knew. "It was such a big deal when you walked in on me and Koenma. But at the first sign of trouble what do you do? You go fucking around with Kurama! Did you even bother waiting until the day was out or did you pull his clothes off as soon as you walked through the door?" The man that he'd been willing to sacrifice anything for had just betrayed him in the worst possible way.

"You're treading thin ice Detective, shut your mouth before you say anything more you'll regret." The very idea that he'd sleep with Kurama was ludicrous and he wasn't about to sit there and have his loyalty questioned. When had this become about him anyway? Aside from when Kurama got too close for comfort only a few minutes again he hadn't come any closer than arms length to the man. These accusations were out of line.
Yusuke laughed bitterly, there was plenty that he regretted right now. Like the fact that he'd been kicking himself over the past two days believing that he had committed a wrong that Hiei would never do. So much for that idea, Hiei wasn't even bothering to deny it. Instead he told him to shut up, how typical. "No wonder Kurama was trying to push me away. He finally got you where he wanted you, in his bed. "Well I hope you're happy Hiei. I wasn't willing to let Koenma fuck me but you went ahead and bent over for Kurama. No doubt the both of you enjoyed it."
At that moment Hiei clenched his fists, more than ready to strike Yusuke for what he had just said, the only thing stopping him was they were in the middle of town and it wouldn't stay confined to just using their fists for long. Still, it was tempting to make him eat those words. Nothing had been done to give even the slightest indication that he would have touched Kurama and the flying insults just continued to rankle his nerves. As Yusuke continued on the apparition's temper snapped, he'd had enough. If the man was so willing to believe that he'd sleep around then they had nothing worth bothering to work out. "You're right, I did enjoy every minute of it and I might just go back for another round once we're done here so finish what the hell you have to say and then get out of my sight."
It was difficult to hide the hurt that came upon hearing those words but Yusuke managed. His voice was cold and distant when he spoke again, he couldn't let the apparition know just how much those words cut through him. "With pleasure Hiei, the both of you can go to hell for all I care." Turning abruptly he left the smaller standing there in the middle of the sidewalk, never looking back. One way or another he'd find a way to forget what they had together. Relationships were too much damned trouble, he'd found that out with Keiko and now with Hiei.

Not wanting to watch the man walk out of his life, Hiei turned and began to walk the opposite direction. All hope of them ever being able to reconcile had been lost, destroyed in an instant with a few sharp words and accusations. As he let the rain pour over him he thought about returning to Kurama's but decided against it, right now the fox was the last person he wanted to see next to Yusuke. He still didn't understand how things could have gone so wrong but what was done was done, there was nothing changing it now. All he could do was immerse himself in work and forget about everyone except Yukina. Watching over her would not require him coming back to the Ningenkai, he could do that from afar. It was time for his life in the human realm to come to a close. Without regard to who might be watching he disappeared in a blur, making his way towards the nearest portal. It was time to go home.
