Chapter III
Kurama glanced out of the window during class. The teacher had stopped lecturing for awhile and they were now supposed to be busy reading The Inferno by Dante. He was strangely having a hard time paying attention to the words on the page. He felt as though someone was watching him, trying to bore into his very soul.
I AM THE WAY INTO THE CITY OF WOE.
I AM THE WAY THE WAY TO A FORSAKEN PEOPLE.
I AM THE WAY INTO ETERNAL SORROW.
His eyes widened slightly. Someone was looking in his direction. The person was dressed oddly for weather that Japan had been having. He or she was wearing a long, black trench coat that reached to the figure's heels. His or her face was pointed in his direction. He glanced back at the verses of the poem. He was just mistaken. I'm being paranoid, he thought and calmed down. He slowly peered back out of the window. No one was there. It's just my imagination.
SACRED JUSTICE MOVED MY ARCHITECT.
I WAS RAISED HERE BY DIVINE OMNIPOTENCE,
PRIMORDIAL LOVE, AND ULTIMATE INTELLECT.
Something slammed down on the wooden desk and everyone turned to see Kurama standing up. He was backing away from the window and walking to the door. The teacher was looking at him suspiciously.
"Mr. Minamino, what is going on?" Kurama looked at him before hurrying out of the door and slamming it shut behind him. What he had seen scared him. He was a few doors down the hall when the teacher came out and stopped him.
"Mr. Minamino, I don't know what's going on but you can't disrupt my class like that. Let's go to the office to call your mother. You've been acting a lot like this lately. You never did before. I have warned you before but now I am taking action." The teacher grasped the redhead teen by the upper arm and started to drag him to the office.
ONLY THOSE ELEMENTS TIME CANNOT WEAR
WERE MADE BEFORE ME, AND BEYOND TIME I STAND.
ABANDON ALL HOPE, YE WHO ENTER HERE.

Yusuke's head lay on the desk. He was asleep. The bell rang at three-thirty and he jumped up. He raced out of the door before the teacher could catch and was out of the school before she even remembered that he owed her time for earlier disruptions during class this week. He whistled happily and ran smack into Keiko.
"Oh, hello, Yusuke." He fell into step with her as she headed home.
"Hey, Keiko. Everything all right?" She looked at him and smiled. He missed her smiling. Her father had been in the hospital for the passed few days, of heatstroke. He had to admit, it was getting very humid outside.
As they approached her home, the pace slowed down considerably. Keiko turned to Yusuke and leaned against, crying. He put his arms around her. They had been best friends forever and to have this happen made his heart break. She stopped and wiped her eyes.
"Sorry, Yusuke."
"There's no reason to be sorry, Keiko. I think your dad will be fine."
"I hope so." He nodded and watched as she went inside before heading to his apartment where his mother was probably going to be drunk, again. She had started up her old habits once more a few months after he had been resurrected. He sighed and took a different turn, heading for Kurama's.

Kurama sat at the kitchen table. He was angry with himself for acting like that during class. His mother, being overly worried, had taken him to the doctor, who had in turn given him pills to take for a month. He only observed the two white pills sitting on the tabletop in front of him. His mother had gone back to work. She had grounded him as well. What else could go wrong?

Yusuke saw someone sitting on the bench as he came to the park, the marker that was halfway between his and Kurama's homes. The person was dressed in black with a trench coat one of all things. He only watched him or her as he passed. He stopped when the figure turned to him, arching an eyebrow delicately. The sunglasses were taken away and brilliant green eyes flashed at him.
"Do you having a staying problem, little boy?" Yusuke's anger started boiling. Little boy. No one called him that. Shit, I'm probably taller than she is, he thought as he walked over to her. She smiled, shockingly white teeth showing behind her lips. She stood up, her golden hair falling passed her shoulders and to her waist. Yeah, I am taller than she is.
"No ONE calls my a little boy, you bitch." He attacked and heard her laugh as she stepped 'gently' to the side. His jaw dropped as he watched her walk away, laughing coldly. He felt his cheek sting and put his fingers to it. They came away with blood. She had cut him with her nails and she avoided him. There was a slight amount of fear in his eyes. Perhaps, she isn't just an ordinary woman, he thought and narrowed his eyes. I'll kill her.

Kurama jumped out his stupor when a loud knocking came at the door. The white pills were still sitting on the tabletop as he went to answer the door. He opened it and saw Yusuke standing on the stoop.
"Hey, Kurama, can I. . .what the hell happened to you?" Kurama wrinkled his forehead in confusion and walked back into the entry to take a look at his reflection. He was pale and looked tired.
"It's a long story, Yusuke."
"Really, let's hear it." Yusuke came into the house and entered the kitchen in search of something to drink. He spotted the pills resting on the table. "What are these for, Kurama? Tell me you haven't gone nuts." Yusuke immediately shut up when he saw the look on the kitsune's face.
"It's been a long day, Yusuke. I'll get you something to drink."
"Kurama, what happened? You don't sound like your normal self."
"I freaked, that's all. Nothing too serious." Yusuke became quiet as he watched his redheaded friend pour the drinks. Without warning, the pitcher fell from his trembling hand and smashed upon impact with the ground.
"Damn it, not again." The drinks temporarily forgotten, Kurama grabbed some towels and started cleaning up the mess. Yusuke helped him. The kitsune did not see the glass as his hand rested upon it. He gasped in surprise and drew his hand back. Yusuke grabbed another towel and wrapped it around the deep cut on the redhead's hand.
"I'm sorry, Yusuke. I'm just not my self today." Yusuke glanced back at the table. The pills were gone. Kurama had finally decided to take them. He sighed again and helped Kurama to his feet and slowly finished cleaning up the mess. He filled the glasses with water and placed them on the table.
"Please, Kurama, tell me what's going on? This never happens to you."
"I saw something, Yusuke."
