Sparks: Hi everyone! Sparks here and I am the authoress of this horrible fanfiction that you are about to read.
Hiei: And I am the forced co-host of this fanfic because she thinks that my attitude is “cute”
Sparks” Awww but Hiei it is cute! ^o^
Hiei: Why don't you have Kurama be your co-host? He's Nice AND he's your favorite character!
Sparks: o.o Because I need someone to torture and I'm already giving Kurama enough pain by writing a fanfic about him…
Hiei: Hn…
Sparks: Besides… I thought that you were nice enough not to offer sacrificing your friend and would rather have you go through this instead of Kurama… T-T You meanie…
Hiei:… Just do the Disclaimer…
Sparks: Oh! Right! Yu YU Hakusho does not belong to me and if it did it would be the end of the world >.<

“MOTHER!!!” The cries of a young girl pierced the night as she stumbled through the crumbling remains of the mansion she had once called home as a blazing fire blazed maliciously through the many rooms. Her face was tear streaked as she shrieked loudly when a burning log fell from above narrowly missing her by a few inches. She looked barely even thirteen years old, but her amber eyes portrayed wisdom beyond that of a twelve year old. Amber was not the word to be used to describe her eyes though, they held a unique light to them, a sort of liquid fire that matches the destructive one that was destroying her home at that very moment. “Father! KYO!!!!”
Scanning the rooms, the girl pushed back her waist long snowy white hair that was held back in a messy ponytail. She head never felt this alone before, never in her entire life. All she could really remember was playing in her room with her older brother, Kyo, when they smelled fire and he told her to stay there as he ran out to see what was going on. The girl took a deep breath but then started coughing when he inhaled smoke instead. She knew that she had to get out, and fast, but she did not want to leave until she found someone anyone.
Her eyes widened slightly when she heard a loud groan in the general direction of the kitchen where the back door was and a small smile made its way across her face as she ran there, shielding her eyes as she burst through the burning doorway, “Mother!!!” she shouted, those same tears breaking free again as she knelt down and threw her arms around the older woman.
“J-julin…” gasped the girls' mother when she felt her daughters' arms around her and she too embraced her, “You must get out of here… Quickly! Now!” As she said that the woman tried to push the girl off her and towards the back door.
“NO!” Her grip on her mother tightened as Julin clung to her mother for dear life her eyes squeezed tightly shut. “I don't want to leave you mother! I don't know where Father and Kyo are and I don't want to loose you too!” Tears blurred her vision when Julin felt her mother stroking her hair lightly, the chaos and fire was gone from her mind temporarily. “Mother… please…” she whispered as she felt something warm and wet on her mother's back, “Mother!” Pulling back slightly, Julin saw the blood on her hands and arms as she shook her head in disbelief. She didn't want to believe that she was going to loose her mother, not right after she had found her.
Her mother just smiled slightly as she tried to calm the sobbing girl, “Shhhh…. It's all right Julin… It's alright my little glass rose… I'll be all right… You're young… full of life… and your life is more important than mine… Here… take this…” As her mother said all this, Julin watched as the older woman pulled out a small leather pouch from her pocket of her dress, took Julins' hand and pressed the suede bag on it, “Guard this with your life… and remember… if you feel as if life is too hard and that you are all alone… just look at it… and remember that you are not… life goes on… and each challenge you face will make you stronger…”
“I am not leaving you mother… No! Come one get up! I know you! You're stronger than that!” She was tugging at her mother's hand now, trying to get the older woman to get up with her. Falling to her knees again, the tears fell as Julin knew that her attempts were futile and hopeless, “I need you with me mother…”
That smile never faltered as Julin's mother placed her hand on Julin's right cheek, cupping her face slightly as she wiped the wiped a single crystalline tear from her daughter's eyes. “This is the last tear you are allowed to shed for me Julin… It's your turn to live now… and remember… you are a child of the heavens… the child of Mercury…” And with that, the hand fell limp to the ground.
Seeing this, Julin's heart seemed to have skipped a beat as overwhelming emotions swirled inside of her, “Mother? MOTHER!!!” She screamed her mind blank as it still tried to decipher just what just happened. Everything was going too fast as she felt as if she can handle everything that was going on. She had just lost her home… her brother… her father… and now… her mother… “No… no… NO!” Right at the last no, the clatter and sparks of a falling log pulled her back into reality and she knew that she must keep with what her mother wanted her to do, and it was to escape and live, “I'm sorry…” Her voice was barely even audible as she grabbed the pouch, stuffed it in her pocket and ran towards the back door, wrenched it open and swiftly she fell into the embrace of the inky black night. The feel of the cold night air and the touch of the blades of grass was welcoming as she tripped and fell. The demon world was a hard place to survive in, and the only reason why her and her family was able to live in Makai undisturbed was because her father was highly influential and had friends in high places. But now that her entire world had crashed, she wasn't sure just what she can do to survive.
Choking back the tears, Julin buried her face in her arms as she bit down hard on her bottom lip, “I don't believe it… I don't want to believe that I lost everything in one night!!!” Her voice echoed into the darkness as she got up, the taste of her own blood in her mouth.
“You better believe it… because it really did happen…”
The artic cold voice made her spine tingle as Julin turned around slowly and gasped when her amber eyes met a pair of piercing heartless golden ones. Taking an involuntary step back, she blinked once and tore her eyes from the demons to see a handsome silver youko standing in front her, a burning torch in one hand, a smirk on his face as he looked at her.
“So it was you…” whispered Julin as she stumbled backwards, falling to the ground again, “You were the one that set my house on fire…” Her body was shaking with anger and resentment, hatred and madness, as her hand grasped a sharp rock she felt when she tripped, “You were the on the murdered my brother… my father and mother! You MURDERER!!!!” Instantly a burst of adrenaline flooded through her as she threw the rock at the silver youko before taking the moment to run towards him, grabbing and wrenching the torch from his grasp and tried to hit him hard with it.
Dodging the rock, the youko laughed maniacally as he grabbed her wrist when she tried to hit him, “So you want to fight Child of the Heavens… Good… At least unlike the others you are willing to go down with a fight!”
The grip her had on her wrist tightened as Julin gasped when suddenly she felt herself being thrown to the ground. The initial impact of the attack made her drop the torch and she was slightly dazed as she stood up to see the youko pulling out a single red rose and saw it become a long green whip-like vine with lethal thorns around it. Her eyes narrowed as she grabbed the torch again, “Why did you kill me family?! What did we ever do to you?!” The burst of energy returned as Julin charged at the demon ready for another attack.
That smirk widened as the demon fox flitted to the side and directed his whip at Julin causing her to trip to the ground again, “Oh… it's not what your family did to me personally… it's just what your mother was… what you are… Child of Mercury… You see… you possess something that I need… something that the other children possessed also and I have obtained…”
Her hand traveled to her pocket to where the pouch resided and the emotions began to swirl again. “You dare kill innocent people in order to get this?! This… trinket?!” Anger burned fiercely like the fire that destroyed her house as she ran towards to the Youko again for another attack. “If that's the case then you will never get what you want!” Swinging the torch, Julin smiled when she felt it make contact with her target as she made to attack again.
His eyes widened when he felt the torch hit him and combined with the heat of the fire it doubled the pain as a malicious glint in his eye appeared as he whirled around and with a snap of his whip the torch flew from Julin's grasp, “You little bitch!” he muttered through gritted teeth as Julin stumbled to the ground, “You need to learn your manners little girl!”
Kicking the youko hard on the shins, Julin scampered up and tried to run away, but apparently the kick hardly did anything because the next thing she knew the whip that the Makai thief was using had snaked its way around her and she was jerked back sharply, “Ow!” she cried out when she hit the ground, the thorns piercing her flesh.
“Not so fast…” Looking up to see the silver youko standing above her, Julin just scowled and glared at him, not a single tear to be seen. That caught the youko off guard as he looked at the young girl. After all theses years of killing whom he wished to get what he wanted, why is it now that he saw something that made him hesitate?
“Go ahead… kill me…” said Julin, her voice quavering, nor from fear, but from rage and resentment, “I lost everything already because of you… why not add my life to it also?”
That phrase hit him more than any sword could ever do so as the thief loosened the whip from around the girl, “Heh… Might as well let you suffer and live instead little girl…” he said harshly before turning around, the whip returning into its normal state of a rose again.
When she felt that the whip no longer caged her, Julin got up and looked around for the torch. Spying it, she ran over, grabbed it and turned to strike the fox demon again. It was as if he had sensed the attack as the demon fox whirled around and grabbed her by the wrist once again but this time, a silver dagger was him his hand as he plunged it deep into her side, “I was trying to be patient with you but it's running thin right now… Don't make me change my mind and kill you!” he hissed before pulling the dagger out and dropped her to the ground like a worn out rag doll. “My name is Youko Kurama… Don't you forget that…” Turning around he walked away without a second look back.
Once she hit the ground, Julin struggled to get up again but felt as if she no longer had the strength to do so. Slowly in an almost fluid-like motion, she reached into her pocket and drew it out. “I promise… mother… that I would avenge you, and father, and Kyo… I promise that I will you… Kurama…” And slowly a black haze overcame her and then everything went black.
