"Dark Clan Aftermath"

Chapter 1

Slight Reminiscing

She shifted from her nap as a small sound reached her senses. It was all too familiar... The same noise, the same contact with the furniture - all the same. Slowly, she opened her heavy eyes, not intrigued by the impostor at all. Impostor? Not really... She searched her surroundings and her gaze stopped at the black-clad guy lounging on the chair in front of her, feet on the nearby table. He looked at her with his piercing crimson eyes. Only a few people got used to those gaze. She's one of those very few beings of course. Her encounters with this person in her quarters were already a part of their everyday routine. She would take a nap, he'd awaken her, and then they'll have a short talk. She smiled at the memory...
"Hn." She heard him mutter. "What's with you?"
Her smile widened. "Oh nothing. Just reminiscing..."
"Hn." Was his short reply. He was never a talkative guy.
"So how was it?" she asked.
"How was what?" he countered.
She sighed. "The patrolling."
"Junk"
"You know you keep on saying that. Your answer never changed since the first time I asked you this question."
"Well, you keep on repeating the same question. Why'd I change my words?"
"I have nothing to add. So why'd you come here?" she asked, hoping a descent answer.
"My work is finished for the day and I was given a week to... rest."
"Oh good. Maybe, it's better if you go back to Ningenkai. It'll make you less grouchy you know..." she snickered on her mind.
"No one tells me what to do. You nor anyone else. I'll stay here."
"Just as I thought..." she whispered.
"Hn." He sounded, meaning he heard her.
"In case you've forgotten, Hiei, you're not my subordinate anymore. You're free to go now. I hope It's not because of `that' that's what keeping you in my place."
Hiei smirked. "Mukuro, you think too highly on yourself for one's taste. I'm staying at this wrecked place because I want to-no other reasons. Bear that on that mind of yours."
"Well, I just hope my wrecked place provides your every need."
"Actually, I can barely endure the kind of service you're providing me. You should do better than that."
Mukuro's reply on his witty words never came. An uncomfortable silence fell upon the pair.
"Anything else, Hiei?" Mukuro finally asked.
"Hn. I'll stay here for a while."
"You have your own room. Don't tell me that it doesn't suit your taste anymore." She smirked. "Well you can't have mine."
"Hn. What makes you think I'd want this ugly room of yours?"
"Then what brings you here every waking moment for the past year? Don't tell me you're visiting me. Oh how sweet..." she smiled as a small blush crept on his cheeks. But it disappeared as fast as it appeared. He never liked to be teased on the kinds of issues concerning him and the opposite sex. The guy seemed so innocent about courting and anything the same with it. On his circle of `friends', though he never admits it, he and Kurama were the only bachelors left. Yusuke got married, to a human, just a year ago. She couldn't understand Hiei and Kurama. Both of them have countless of girls lying at their feet. They're more good-looking than Yusuke too, but here they are-singles and all... The two are considered the best of friends, but again, Hiei denies it. Still, there's one question that's always lingering at the edge of her mind whenever the wheels of her head starts turning differently. `Why did she choose him those years ago?' There are lots of other strong warriors out there. She had plenty of demons applying for the position so why him? Maybe it's because of the tear gem. No it's more than that. She intrigued him at first but as time went by, she learned to understand him. It grew into a mutual understanding of... associates. He'd seen almost all of her. Her past, her thoughts, her body, her being... He accepted her, she knows. Because they're the same in almost every aspect of life...
"What are you thinking? Let me guess, reminiscing again..." he eyed her in a manner that says `I caught you'.
She answered him with a faint smile. She liked this guy, if `likes' is the right term. No one has ever made her feel-safe and accepted-only him. Sure, she received respect, devotion and a lot more from her subordinates, enemies-but they never did understand her. She left fear in the hearts of most people, although they didn't bring 'that' against her.
"You know what I think, Hiei?" she suddenly voiced out causing the other occupant of the room to open his previously closed eyes and focus on her. She looked back at him and said in a serious tone. "I think you should get married and start having a famil-"she was cut.
"Don't!" he raised his right arm to emphasize his point. "Don't you dare start that... that ridiculous topic!" he was blushing noticeably now.
"Mukuro gave away a short laugh. "Why not? You're a fine young man and there are lots of girls out there that are ready to jump at you the second you issue an um...order."
"There's plenty of time for that!" his voice rising.
"Oh come on, don't tell me that. Marrying earlier would benefit you!"
"Why don't you stop nagging at me and therefore, start asking yourself the same things." Hiei smirked. He got her again.
"I have no need for a consort. I can manage by myself. Besides, I have no need for an heir anymore. There are lots of changes in this land that I wouldn't like my heir to experience. Not that I don't like the new government it's just that... I can't believe that it happened so suddenly. All my preparations turned to waste. That Yusuke... I always thought Raizen was a fool. Unfortunately, his descendant inherited the same trait from him."
Hiei caught the faraway glance she cast upon mentioning the word `heir'. He realized that Mukuro meant by an heir was her own child. He couldn't believe, he would be getting such a reaction from her-one of the three superpowers of the Makai history. A supposedly cold-hearted and sadistic monster would absent-mindedly give away her innermost desires-although he'd already disproved such traits from her. Yes, she killed, she destroyed but she's not that evil. It was part of her life. She stopped killing already after the tournament, the one Yusuke formulated. It was agood improvement to everybody. He saw the way she kills, she makes it quick. She's not sadistic like most of her subordinates, although there are times when her urges to kill skyrockets. He saw her at `that' state three times already. It usually occurs once a year at the same time of the year and lasts from one to three days. He didn't understand her at first but when he saw her past, he was able to get why. The day of her birth became her most hated day, just like him. For the others, the meaning of their birth date is a somewhat good reminder of life, but for the both of them, it was a reminder of their tortured and discriminated life. He helped her let go of the past and live a new life and she somewhat returned the favor. She offered him not only friendship but a lot more. He'd known Kurama longer than Mukuro, but he felt he knows her more and she knows him more too. Kurama was his bestfriend no matter how hard he denies the mere thought, but there are other things that Kurama wouldn't be able to understand. But Mukuro, she understood almost all of him and it's as if she almost knows how his mind operates and everything else. She's such a wonderful woman. He could never deny that but he wouldn't tell her that either. He'd already revealed a great deal of things towards her already. He told her as much like the time he told her that he likes her a year ago, during the fight between Mukuro and him. Indeed, he likes her-more than that-he just can't find the right word for his feelings towards this woman. She made him resurface his once locked up emotions. Yeah... she was truly something else. Never had he focused such attention to someone before. Even his sister, Yukina, wasn't able to do that... A slight tug on his shoulder brought him back to the world of reality.
"...ei, Hiei..." her gentle voice surrounded his senses. He gazed at the concerned face of his former master. He cursed himself mentally-he was caught off guard and here she is standing before him, quite curious of his sudden actions. He stood up-eye level with her-without removing the irritated look on his face.
"Are you okay? Get some sleep, you must be tired."
"I am okay!" his voice rising again. "But I'm not tired at all."
"I don't believe you" she muttered. "Hey! You grew taller. You're as tall as me now." She smiled.
"W-what?" he stuttered. "Oh...that... I know that... but I will look taller than you because of my hair."
"Indeed..." was her short reply. There was a short pause and then she said-"Go to your room and sleep. You look awful. You wouldn't like your fans to harass me, would you?" she teased.
"Hn... whatever..." he neared the exit but before leaving, he said-"You look a lot awful... Maybe it's because of that strange diagonal bed of yours, try making it like the rest of ours, it's more comfortable. Bear that. I don't want to see that thing on your room tomorrow." Then he left.

++So how was it? Please review... I'm desperate...++
