Chapter 2

The People

Mukuro smiled. It's true, she didn't really liked that bed, nor the room itself. It was just her way of reminding herself of her dark and sick past. But now, maybe it's time to let go. Hiei had already broken her shackles, why not stop torturing herself with the past and instead, go live with the flow of time. It isn't a bad idea. She scanned the room. It was dark, very dark, small, and gloomy, hallow...a prison... Her fine brows met and then she frowned. She turned around and went out of the room. She gazed at the door of the room. An eternity passed before any sound was made. She began reciting a few incantations and with every word she speaks, the door slowly disappears. She breathed deeply afterwards. She looked at the place where the door previously stood, but it was not there anymore. She smiled faintly. No one would ever find that sick place again... No one...ever... She started walking away from the spot. Slowly, the appearance of the site magically changed! After a few more steps, she turned around. The dark corridor leading to her door was not there, instead a high wall, like every other part of the palace, welcomed her eyes. It's over...
"Kiri..." Mukuro called... Within a few seconds, one of her generals appeared a few paces from her back.
"Yes, mistress?", Kiri asked, his head bowed.
"Prepare my quarters, especially my bedroom... I want to rest..." she smiled as her gaze lingered at the wonderful site on the nearby window. The one referred to as Kiri suddenly raised his head.
"Do you need anything, Kiri?", Mukuro inquired after noticing Kiri hadn't moved yet.
"No--none, mistress... It's just quite intriguing why you suddenly want to go back...", he trailed, unsure of how to phrase his thoughts.
A long pause occurred before Mukuro answered him. "It's time to let go, don't you think?", she smiled, with that, she walked away from the still stunned general of hers. 'Is it that shocking?'

~~Outside the Palace~~

Hiei was swinging his sword when a tiny sound reached his sensitive hearing. He straightened up and without warning, he shot his weapon towards where the sound originated. The intruder jumped away from the deadly thing and landed gracefully in front of the owner.
"Hey! Is that how you treat guests?"
"You're not a guest." Hiei turned away from the person and started walking towards Mukuro's palace, the so-called guest following him.
"I see you haven't changed a bit. Still the meany ol', not to mention grouchy, friend of mine!" the intruder chirped.
"Hn." was Hiei's only reply.
"It's getting dark, I just hope you're getting me a good room this evening. You wouldn't want your best friend get ravaged by beasts out here!"
"I really don't care. You can sleep on the trees, they're your friends." Hiei hid his smirk from the sense of his own words.
"Ha-ha... Really funny." the guy sarcastically said. "Oh! Here we are."
The two were about to enter the palace when...
"Kurama... What a pleasant surprise..."
The one referred to as Kurama turned to the direction of the voice and met the sight of a beautiful woman heading their way.
"Hn.", was Hiei's reaction.
"Lady Mukuro, you look very beautiful." Kurama greeted. Mukuro stopped in front of the two and regarded Kurama with a tiny smile.
"Thank you..." was Mukuro's reply. "It's really nice of you visit him", she said while gesturing at the guy beside him. Mukuro leaned more to Kurama. "It'll make him less grouchy." Kurama let out a chuckle.
"Then I should feel honored, my lady. I missed him so much, I thought I'd die!" Kurama joked. Mukuro smiled again.
"You two are impossible!!!" Hiei exclaimed. "One more insult on me and you'll end up on Enma's desk!", with that, Hiei stomped away from the two and headed inside.
"I guess we follow him?"
"Whatever you say my lady."
"Stop with the formalities, young man. Call me Mukuro." Mukuro walked inside followed by the redheaded guest. "Hey! I'm older than what you think I am..." Kurama grinned at his words.
"Hm. I forgot... My mistake, youko sir."
And the two continued on talking as they followed the pissed Hiei ahead.

~~Somewhere~~

'Why do I feel incomplete... No... This is just a temporary state of ... of insanity... Yes it is. My calculations are never wrong...'
*Don't lie to yourself...*
'Who's that?!'
*Face the truth...* 'Who the hell are you?!'
*Tsk tsk tsk... The almighty Yomi-- down here with me. Oh! You haven't come here since you got blinded...*
'Who are you. Tell me.'
*You don't know me?*
'Get on with it!'
*Well, let's put it this way-I'm just a mere creation you made all those years ago...*
`Elaborate'
*I cannot do that*
`Why not?!'
*Yomi, yomi, you made me not because of `that' reason *
`What do you mean?'
*Oh! There you go again *
`Then what purpose did I made you for?'
*I know your innermost feelings and desires, Yomi. Some of them, you didn't want to think at all. Some, you chose to forget... And when you're confused, and you need answers, I'll be there to help... *
`I don't believe you'
*I can't blame you... Why don't you try my...skills...*
Yomi thought for a while. Deep inside, he felt what this voice told is true, but then he shrugged it off. He straightened himself and thought about the voice's proposal. `Alright, if you are really what you say you are then let's see it. I am bothered with ... something but I don't know what it is. Why don't you help me...' Yomi grinned; he would never be able to answer that. A piercing silence surrounded him that made the hair of his skin stand. He didn't hear any sound from his companion. Maybe he isn't real or maybe, he sensed his nervousness...
*Do you really want me to say it out loud?*
'W-what... what are you talking about?!'
*Poor, poor Yomi... Out here, confused... Fantasizing a new face--an old enemy...Oh! Was that too much?* a sickly chuckle followed.
'Why you...' Yomi hissed.
*Don't fool yourself, great Yomi. You've been thinking about her since you discovered her real identity. Well, I can't blame you. Imagine those pretty eyes of hears that screamed at you to take her... Ah... Those plum lips chases your every thought, and---*
'Shut up!!!'
*Yeah, she's very beautiful. Everything you wanted in a woman is in her. She's your idea of perfection, save for the scarred part of her body.*
'Cut it out.' Yomi said in a low dangerous tone.
*I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to insult her! But do remember this, don't let this 'infatuation' get into your head, Yomi*
'I don't know what you're saying...'
"Father, father..."
'Someone's calling me...'
*It's your son, idiot. Go back to reality, Yomi and... be careful...*
Yomi met the gaze of his only son... a test-tube child.
"Yes, Shura" he smiled at the worried face of his child.
"Are you okay? We've been walking for miles but it seemed like, I don't know-- well we're here side by side, and yet I feel like you're faraway or not here at all..."
"I'm sorry." Yomi stopped. "Let's sit for a while." he sat on a nearby rock. Shura reluctantly followed.
"It's good to be back, ei, father?"
Yomi returned the attention he's receiving from his son. "Indeed, Shura. I missed this place a lot..." he swept his gaze around the deserted place they're in. No trees can be seen... Just a few shrubs here and there, and a whole area of hot , golden sand. This place was a part of raizen's territory, but now, it's every youkai's property. How lonely the past few years have been. The hundreds of years of unexplained rivalry was put to an end and here he is now-- a battered person. The former three superpowers of Makai was reduced to two...
"Father," Shura's voice vibrated around him.
"Yes, my son." From the corner of his eyes, he could see Shura breath deeply. This must be important to him...
"Father, I was wondering... can I have a mother too?"
Shura's words made Yomi wip his head towards his son and gave him his undivided attention. Shura backed away...
"Don't mind that father. It was nothing of importance actually..."
"I think it'd do you good, Shura."
"Huh?" Shura was astonished. He couldn't believe he would be hearing such things from his father.
Yomi gestured for Shura to sit beside him. "So," Yomi began. "Anyone on your mind?". The blush on Shura's cheek proved him right. "So there is, huh?"
"Y-yeah..." Shura answered shyly.
"May I know the special lady's name--"
"Not now!" Shura exclaimed.
"Why not?", the puzzled father asked.
"Um... well... you just have to wait! Gosh father, ever since you got your eye sight back, you seemed to be a lot more... inquisitive..." Shura grinned.
"It's a gift, son." Yomi sighed. He's really intrigued by this topic Shura openned. Who could it be? He ---himself got a woman in his mind that'll suit the place. He would know soon... "Shall we continue with our trip back home?"
"Sure! Let's go!"

~~Ningenkai~~

A young man stood facing the setting sun. So beautiful, so calm... Ningenkai had been peaceful for the past years... The ruler of Makai did a very fine job... "Enki" was a good leader. What on earth does it look like now? Maybe, he could sneak-
"Yusuke Urameshi! Where are you?"
Yusuke recognized the voice of his wife followed by a shrilling cry from a baby.
"I'm out here, Keiko!" he replied just as loud as hers.
A few moments later, Keiko appeared before him with a bundle on her arms. The child was crying his lungs out which made Yusuke cover his ears.
"Do something, will you!" he commanded in an irritated tone.
"He wants milk but we kind of run out of supply. So I want you to buy some-now."
"Oh, shut up!"
"What did you say?!"
"Not you, your kid!"
"Well, he's yours too!" Keiko fumed.
Yusuke huffed and went back to his former position overlooking the wonderful sight before him. "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
"Wha?" Keiko asked. She approached her husband and noticed that he was looking intently at the scenery before him, which she might add is not `that' pretty. Not now that the sun had completely disappeared. "What are you thinking?".
Yusuke looked at the gentle face of his wife. They got married two years ago. The celebration was quite simple but at the same time, it was a blast! Their friends attended the party including Genkai, Botan, Koenma and George. Kurama, Kuwabara and a lot more were there too-Hiei was the only absent...
"You miss Makai, don't you?" Keiko suddenly blurted.
"What are you saying?"
"(Sigh)... You perfectly know what I'm saying, Urameshi. And please, be reminded of what I told you two years ago..."
"I DON'T miss that stupid place." He firmly said. He stomped towards the house leaving keiko and his son.
"Oh Yusuke... Wait a minute... YUSUKE URAMESHI! THE MILK!!!"

~~Mukuro's Palace~~

"What did you come here for?" Hiei asked at the redhead directly across the table happily dining.
"Hiei, let's eat first. You ask him later, okay." Mukuro interjected who was located on the head of the long, antique table.
"Hn." Hiei said no more and continued with his meal.
"It's okay. I won't stay long. I was just told to relay an invitation for Hiei."
Hiei was quiet for while. It was not just because of the idiot's child, there is a lot more.
Mukuro, sensing the uncomfortable aura, stood up. The other occupants of the room took no notice which made her raise her fine brows. "I'll leave you two now. Hiei, you can show him later his quarters."
"You don't have to leave." Hiei told her.
"Oh, but I must. I'm very tired and I really wanted to rest now." Mukuro began advancing the exit of the dining area. "Good night...", then she disappeared from their view. Kurama and Hiei are left alone now.
"What does he relly want?"
"I don't know. But I think he's really serious on inviting you on his son's birthday-"
"I don't care about that stupid celebration!"
Kurama was quiet. "Well, if you wanna know more, go see him. "
"Hn" Hiei stood up and gestured for his `friend' to follow him. Kurama understood.
"Where are we going?"
"To your room. You must rest now."
"So, are you attending?" They stopped at a decent-looking room.
"I'll think about it...", then Hiei left.
