Kurama and the others were running to the park after Hiei had picked up Kuwabara's scent and they had felt a flare up of the same power that Armina had used to push them out of her room earlier that evening.
"Do you think Kuwabara is alright?" Yusuke huffed as they ran full out.
"I hope so." Kurama said, slowing down when they reached the gate and saw Hiei standing there waiting.
"Hn, took you guys long enough." Hiei said as they all cautiously walked into the park.
"Did you check to see if Kuwabara is ok?" Kurama mummered as they began to scan the area for any signs.
"No, I didn't enter until you caught up." Hiei said, jumping up into the trees in order to search. It was Yusuke who found them sitting on the swings and motioned for Kurama to hide in the bushes beside him.
"So you moved here from Bejing?" Kuwabara asked while she drew little pictures in the sand with the toe of her shoe.
"You're a Rekai Tentai aren't you?" She asked, ignoring his question.
"Yeah, and you're something else. Your eyes look almost like a wolf when you get angry but your power it's..." Kuwabara trailed off and shuddered. She gave him a sad smile.
"I'm a Lycanthrope, that's why my eyes get that way and my power." She sighed and looked at him.
"Will you promise not to repeat any of what I tell you to anyone. Not Kurama or Hiei." She said. Kuwabara raised his eyebrow.
"How did you know not to call him Shuichi?" Kuwabara asked. She smiled a little more and chuckled.
"It was his thoughts. He is the vessel to Yoko Kurama, fox demon thief who fled from Makai after he was injured. I heard tales he bonded with a human boy, and I felt his aura when I was at Genkai's." She explained, rocking back and forth slightly on the swing.
"Wow, you're good at reading peoples aura's...How do you know Genkai?" He asked, truly amazed she was able to tell just who Kurama's demon form was without ever seeing it.
"I used to live there, in a cavern in the woods. That was my home and I was content until that Yusuke boy came into my den while I was sleeping. I do admit I attacked him and I could have killed the asshole but I didn't. Koenma banished me on the terms I could only come back if my father brought me here."
"And then you go back to Bejing only to be told that you're moving to Tokyo."
"Exactly." She sighed and looked at him with a sad smile.
"You're the first person to actually listen to me. Why did you decide to do that?" She asked, her eye's narrowing in scrutiny.
"Because I know what it's like to feel left out, to feel alone, to feel like I'm a freak." He said. She laughed a bitter laugh and looked at him, her eyes brimming with tears.
"You honestly don't know the half of what it's like to be me."
"Then tell me." She said and shook her head.
"You are one strange man Kazuma Kuwabara."
"I get that all the time. Would you please tell me about why you feel the way you feel and why you act the way you act?"
"Sure on one condition."
"And what would that be?"
"You never repeat a word of this to anyone."
"Deal."
"Ok, lets go somewhere else. There are rats in the bushes." She growled as she stood up. They watched how she bolted away as fast as she could out of the park and somewhere else. Kuwabara looked at the bushes and gave his friends a sad smile.
"Sorry guys but my word is my bond." He said as he ran.
"We should go after them." Yusuke said, getting up to run and follow. Kurama put his hand on Yusuke's arm to stop him.
"If she wants to talk with Kuwabara in privacy let her. It's not like we can't just ask Hiei to tap into her dreams tonight and tell us what he see's. And if he does that then he gets all the sweet snow he wants." Kurama said, looking over at their shortest team member.
"Hn I'll do it, not to help anyone but because I love sweet snow." He said, his tone showing how displeased he was at having to do most of the work just to learn about a girl he would surely kill later.
"Then it's settled, we will return to my mothers home and await Kuwabara's return. Then later on tonight after Armina goes to bed we have Hiei use his Jagan to learn about her." Kurama said, straightening up and brushing the dirt off his pants. Yusuke sighed, he was worried that Armina really was going to kill Kuwabara, and while he had never really liked him Kuwabara was part of the team after all. They headed off to Kurama's house to wait for both Kuwabara and Armina.
With Kuwabara
They sat on the school's roof, watching as the sun set slowly over the horizon. It was Kuwabara who broke the silence first.
"So will you tell me about yourself now?" He asked politely. She sighed then nodded.
"Why not. What would you like to know?"
"Everything."
"Blunt and straight to the point." She said with a laugh. She sighed before begging her tale. "You see, I wasn't always such a bitch towards people. I was pretty damn nice back when I was younger before I realized how cruel and unforgiving humans could be."
"What happened to make you that way?"
"The day my mother told me that my father had been lying to us both since the day I was born. You see, my father is a Lycan but he has no pack since he went rogue for my mother. He swore to her that he wasn't but the day I was born he told her the truth. Lycanthropy can be genetic and I had the misfortune of contracting it, the only good thing is that my mothers genes gave me the control most other Lycans or Were's would lack."
"What kind of demon was your mother?" He asked. She laughed and wiped the tears from her eyes after a fit of laughing.
"She wasn't a demon. My mother was a Muse."
"A muse?" He said, his heart was pounding in his chest.
"Yes, she was the muse of dance. Seeing how she was immortal but revoked that so she might live a normal life with me and my father I got all the powers and gifts that she had."
"How when she revoked her immortality?"
"She did that after I was born, she passed on everything she was to me when I was still a baby."
"Does that mean you're immortal?"
"Unfortunatly no, since my father is a Lycan."
"What happened then?"
"I grew up and my mom taught me how to control all the power I had, she taught me how to use my power to keep my beast at bay. Then one day everything changed. She came home and told us how three of the muses had been killed. She was scared since the muses who were killed were still immortal."
"What happened to you mom?"
"She went out grocery shopping one night and never came home. We got a call from the police the next day asking if we could identify the possible body that belonged to her."
"And it was your mom wasn't it?"
"It was. After that I ran, I was scared whoever was targeting muses would come after me and my father. I left Bejing to keep him safe and I sought sanctuary in Genkai's forest. She allowed me to stay there but after my mothers death I stopped caring about keeping my beast from coming out. I attacked Yusuke and Koenma. I could have killed them but I didn't since Genkai would come to their rescue." She shuddered. "I can still taste Yusuke's blood and how warm it was." She said, her voice a near whisper.
"And then you were banished?"
"Yes." There was a brief silence before it was broken.
"Koenma gave us a mission. We have to protect the remaining muses and the daughter of a muse."
"I don't need protection."
"You know as well as I do that whoever is doing this will find and kill you."
"It would be better than this wretched existence I have now." He sighed, this girl was dead set on being stubborn.
"I know there's another power you have. It's cold like death."
"How did you...."
"I was just able to tell. What's that power?"
"It's from my fathers side. His mother was a natural born necromancer."
"She could bring the dead back to life?"
"Yes."
"Can you?"
"I've never tried."
"Why?"
"Necromancy is dangerous. The power can consume you if you abuse it, that and it's a dark and evil magic."
"You nearly maul two people to death and you're worried about dark magic?"
"What can I say I'm a complicated person."
"I'm not going to argue that one." he muttered. They looked around and saw how dark it had gotten. She stood up and ran a hand through her hair.
"We should get going, your friends will think I ate you or something." She said with a sad smile as they both headed towards the stairwell. She stopped just short of it and turned around to face him.
"You won't tell anyone about what I told you will you?"
"No, I keep my promises." He said, knowing he was going to get hell from the others but that was small potatoes compared to what she was capable of doing. She smiled and nodded.
"Good, now lets get going." She opened the door and walked through, confident that Kazuma Kuwabara was the only trustworthy human she had ever met.
