Kurama woke up from Yusuke shaking him.
"Hey get up, Hiei's awake." Yusuke said, Kurama woke up almost immediatly.
"How is he?" He asked, rubbing his eyes as he sat up to get out of bed.
"He's...ok in a sense. He doesn't want to talk about what he saw but she's definetly someone we need to keep an eye on." Yusuke said, he held the door open for Kurama. They went into the room Hiei was in, he sat in the bed and looked paler than normal.
"Do NOT make me do that again." He growled when he saw Kurama.
"I promise I won't. How do you feel?" Kurama asked, sitting beside his bed.
"Better now that I'm out of her head." He shuddered. Hiei was truly rattled by what he had seen.
"It was that bad?"
"Worse than bad." They all looked at eachother. What could Hiei have seen to make him that scared?
"What should our next move be?" Kuwabara asked, Botan entered the room, panting and out of breath.
"There's been another attack, Koenma has ordered you to the scene!" Botan gasped as she tried to catch her breath. They all got up, with the exception of Hiei who was ordered to stay behind. Botan opened a portal that took them to a set of woods in Makai.
"What would a muse have been doing in Makai?" Yusuke asked as they looked around. They began to search for any signs of the muse, it was Kuwabara who found the first clue.
"You guys I found something!" He shouted as he held up a mask. Kurama took the mask from him and wiped away some of the blood that coated it. He paled when he realized what it was.
"It was Melpomene." He said with a bitter laugh.
"What's so funny?" Yusuke asked, looking at the mask.
"Melpomene is the Muse of Tragedy. It's kind of ironic." He said. They all looked around for anymore clues, but a terrified scream from deeper in the woods gave them a new direction to look in. They ran as fast as they could, and when they came upon a clearing they found the muse in question surrounded by a circle of robed and hooded men. Yusuke fired his spirit gun, it hit one of the robed mens square in the chest and blew a hole straight through, the others got away before anymore could be injured. The detectives ran towards the fallen muse, Kuwabara had to look away from the sight and both Yusuke and Kurama almost threw up from the sight. The muse had her loose tunic nearly torn off, her face looked as if it had been ripped off and pieces of her flesh hung by strands of muscle. There we gashes in her chest so deep they could see the bone, and on one side they could see her heart. Deep cuts decorated her body, all the way down her legs and on the inside of her thighs.
"Do you think they...?" Yusuke said, letting his question trail off when he realized just how horrible it would sound.
"I think they did rape her, but the question isn't if they did, it's why would they do it?" He said, taking a deep breath and kneeling down. He examined the corpse and saw the cuts and tears along her opening, she had most definetly been raped.
"Their getting more violent the closer they get to killing them all." A soft female voice said. They all whirled around, weapons in hand. It was Armina who had spoken and looked like she would be sick, but aside from that she was injured.
"Armina!" Kurama shouted, running forward to catch her. He was beaten to it by someone else. The someone else had long black hair and bat wings, he wore what looked like a button up tank top with what else looked like black bandages, and a black belt over a white near tunic looking bottom over a pair of black jeans. A pair of black boots and a tattered looking black witches hat completed his outfit.
'It's Kuronue.' Yoko said to Kurama mentally. Kurama let Yoko take over after he had said that.
"Long time no see partner." Yoko said, Yusuke and Kuwabara sat there looking confused.
"Partner?" Yusuke asked. Kuronue turned around and glared as he held Armina in his arms.
"You left me for dead, then you believed that imposter was me." He growled at Yoko.
"It was a mistake, I would have gone back." Kuronue clenched his jaw before sighing.
"What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"I'm here because I saved this one, but she ran away and as you can tell, a) she's pretty damn hot, and b) she's hurt pretty bad." Kuronue said, sitting down with Armina in his lap. Everyone looked at Armina, it was the first time they ever really looked at her. She didn't look pretty, she looked downright beautiful. She had hair the color of chestnuts and skin as white as snow, she was slender but not too much.
"What is she doing here? Do you know?" Yoko asked him. He shook his head. I heard her scream and found some guys around her....I don't know if they..." He trailed off and stroked the hair away from her face.
"If they raped her?" Kuwabara asked. He nodded and sighed.
"She really is pretty." Yusuke said softly, knowing that if Keiko ever heard him say that she would kill him.
"I know, that's why I'm going to take care of her. She was a damsel in distress after all." Kuronue said, standing up and turning to walk away.
"Come with us." Yoko said.
"What?"
"Come with us, it will be safer for her at Genkai's." Kuronue looked from Armina to Yoko.
"You're sure of that?"
"Genkai's is the safest place for any of us right now." Kuwabara said.
"All right I'll come with you, on the terms that I get to take care of her, no one else but me."
"It's a deal." Yoko said, Yusuke got them a portal out of Makai and they appeared in Genkai's kitchen.
"You brought her here?" Genkai said, sipping her tea as she motioned of Armina.
"We had no choice, she's hurt." Kurama said after he changed back to his human form.
"Who's the guy holding her?" Genkai asked.
"This is Kuronue, he's Yoko's old partner. He offered to take care of her but it's not safe in Makai." Kurama said. Genkai sighed.
"Fine, but you take her to the cavern out in the woods. I don't want to risk her shifting in my house and killing anyone." Genkai said, relieved that Armina was safe but not that someone who had attacked both Yusuke and Koenma was in her house.
"That's more than alright with me." Kuronue said, exiting out the back door and dashing off into the woods.
"Genkai, the muse that was killed was raped and it was as if her face had been ripped off. Do you know why someone would do that?" Kurama asked.
"No, I think there might be a book in my library that may explain why." She said, going into her living room. Kurama went off to the library as Yusuke and Kuwabara went outside.
"Do you really think it's safe to be around that girl?" Kuwabara asked as him and Yusuke sat down on the back steps.
"No, but Kuronue is with her and he should be able to take care of her and keep her away from us." He muttered, deep down he knew that as long as Armina was around they would all be in danger.
