Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Demon Dance ❯ Introductions ( Chapter 2 )
"She fights well."
"I'm surprised to hear a compliment coming from you. She must be an excellent fighter to have received such praise."
"Baka. I only said that she fights well. Not that she is a good fighter."
"Regardless, she is one of the people here we have to meet with."
"Hnn."

Mimic returned to its hiding spot and Skyre to her home, weary even from only the hour of play. She had pushed herself to her limits, ready to fall over and sleep. But her own repugnant odor and the need to finish even some of her homework would keep such a luxury at bay. She shuffled into the dark complex, fully confident that no one would see her, or be sober enough to remember seeing her. As she entered the small apartment she shared with Ifurita, her nose told her that the remnants of a pizza were sitting on the stove. She opened the box, finding half of a meat lover's pizza with a note on top collecting grease.
Eat up. You need to
maintain your strength.
Ifurita
A low chuckle rumbled in her chest. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Skyre thought ironically. She picked up the box, taking it to the counter to begin her feast. They had met four years ago, both out on a mission that didn't involve the other. Back then, they were only freshmen, not having a clue how the world worked. Skyre was hell bent on saving the world from evil. Ifurita was hell bent on becoming the world's greatest thief. Neither one had a clue how to do such tasks, but went out anyway in hopes of success. They had lived in a dormitory then; next door neighbors that never knew the other existed at the time. Neither dared to even speak to the other until they were both in over their heads, having become victims of a plot to control demons. Only then did they agree to work together, eventually becoming fighting partners.
Skyre sighed, picking up the pizza box to take to the table so she could eat and do homework at the same time.

A bright cheerful daybreak full of bird songs and morning traffic greeted the wolf as she rolled over in bed, wanting to sleep just five more minutes. Her ears and nose told a different story. Both caught the sounds and smells of breakfast cooking in the kitchen. Bacon and eggs no less. Answering the call of hunger, she literally rolled out of bed, shaking her self before walking to the bathroom with a jaw-snapping yawn. When she took care of herself and had readied for the day, she strolled into the kitchen, her mouth practically drooling over the aromas that had taunted her into wakefulness.
"Are you sharing?" she asked, making huge puppy eyes at Ifurita. The ice demon only rolled her eyes before pointing at a second plate of food on the counter. After rewarding the thief with an almost rib shattering hug, the wolf attacked her food with a vengeance, inhaling it at a dangerous speed.
"I'm only sharing because it was my turn to make breakfast," she grumbled. "I'm glad to see you back to normal though. It's nice to see you in a bright moon again." Ifurita offered a half smile to show she cared before depositing her dished in the sink. "I'll see you in German."
"Right. Later," Skyre replied, licking her own plate clean of the last crumb and wisp of bacon grease. With a good feeling in her belly, she quickly threw the dishes into the dishwasher before snatching up her bag to get to class. "Bayal nirah colotulac," she muttered, throwing her illusions into place. With herself fully prepared, she opened the door and exited her safe haven to face the world again..

Classes move swiftly that day, each one becoming a blur that faded into the next one without pause. There was a break in there somewhere for lunch, but she didn't remember much of it, having eaten and run to get to German on time. She did, but barely, sliding into a seat next to Ifurita with a whispered greeting as she pulled out a notebook and pen.
"Any plans for this weekend?" The ice demon asked.
"Not really. I was just planing on being lazy this weekend." Skyre would have said more but then the teacher began to speak from the front of the lecture hall.
"All right class. Settle down. Settle down. Today we're going to be covering adjective endings." The echoing reply of groans and cries of "NO!!! NOT THAT!!! ANYTHING BUT THAT!!!" showed where the class stood on such subject matter. The pair of demons in the back shared a half smile and pulled out sheets old and worn from high school German. They were from Ifurita's class, and she had willingly copied it for Skyre, making adjective endings a piece of cake once you memorized what was written on them.
"Excuse me. I had a bit of trouble finding this hall. Would you mind if I sat here?" Skyre turned at the sounds of a voice in her ear, coming nose to nose with a young man. He had more hair then Skyre's illusion provided, a mass of red flowing down his back. He had a fine chiseled face, a triangle shape with high cheekbones that help bring out his eyes. The pink school uniform with its gold trim went well on his slim frame, making him a scarlet jay among crows. But those eyes . . . eyes you could be lost in forever. A purest green, like a new leaf, that shined with light and life. The bright green eyes like pieces of jade stared back at her, making her forget where she was for a moment. Then he blinked.
"Sure, sit. In case you missed it, we're covering adjective endings. Page 106," she offered, moving her bag for him to sit. She felt herself blushing furiously, unable to understand why. Her friend looked over with a raised eyebrow, having noticed the temperature change in the general area. "Do you have a name, or should I just make one up for you?"
"I am Shuiichi Minamino. It's a pleasure to meet you," he replied with a smile. He returned his attention to the professor at the front of the room, idly taking notes but not really paying attention.
"Shuiichi . . ." she murmured, letting the name roll on her tongue. It had an interest flavor to it, one that made her intrigued. Taking out a scrap piece of paper, she began to scribble franticly. When the note met her approval, it was passed to Ifurita for her to read.
What is this guy next to me? He doesn't smell human and
he doesn't quite act like it either so what does that make
him? Any guesses? He doesn't seem like a threat, but
I don't want to take any chances.
The blond thought for a moment, chewing on her pencil before writing a reply.
Let's not do anything just yet. He might be a demon, he
might not. You might just be paranoid. We'll keep an eye
on him and see what happens. That's the best I can think
of. Think you can tag him?
Skyre nodded at the last part, reaching into a pocket to draw out a small piece of metal. It was the size of a human fingernail, easily missed if it was placed on someone. With utmost care, she placed it within his bag between his feet and hers, praying that she wasn't noticed before returning her attention to the class itself.
"Now class, before our session is over, I need to give you your new project. You are to work in groups of three and research a German city. The three of you, but you can work in pairs or alone, must write a three-page paper, in German about the city of your choice. You will have four weeks to do this and make sure all of your names are on this project or someone will not get credit. Now . . ." he began droning again.
"Skyre?" the sorceress asked, not having to even phrase the question.
"Yeah. Moonlit Café tonight around 6? I'll get my laptop."
"Sure. I'll meet you there."
"Excuse me again, but do you mind if I join you in this project?" Shuiichi queried, poking his nose right into the conversation.
Ifurita sighed, making the call. "Fine. Think you can find the Moonlit Café by 6 tonight? If you can, meet us there with some ideas."
