Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Demon Dance ❯ Moonlit Cafe ( Chapter 3 )
Ifurita sipped carefully at her hot cup of tea as she used a bit of her ice powers to avoid scorching her mouth. Her foot had begun to tap impatiently again. Skyre was on time and clicking idly at her computer, enjoying her wireless Internet and looking for information. They had arrived on time. Shuiichi had not. It was already 6:15 and the ice demon detested people that were late. Her temper had begun to simmer already from the rain that had arrived from nowhere. The bell at the door jangled, signaling someone had entered. A number of heads turned to see whom it was. Ifurita one of those people and groaned in response to whom had entered.
"Hey Nariko," the boy crowed happily, sitting down at their booth without a second thought. Ifurita, responding to her human name, gifted him with her death glare. It passed right over his head, drawing a chuckle from Skyre, who was watching everything over her screen.
"Hello Ryan," she growled, her right eye beginning to twitch as she slumped down in her seat.
"I didn't think I'd find you here. It's was just such a nice day out, I thought to go for a walk down here and there you were, sitting in the window," he twittered.
"Ryan. It's raining. It is not a nice day out," she growled again, not hiding her agitation in the very least.
"Oh, I guess it is," he chuckled. "Well, that doesn't matter. I've been looking for you to ask if you wanted to go see a movie with me." He gave the biggest grin a human could, puppy love written in his very soul. He was smitten over Ifurita, and she couldn't stand him. He wanted her to be his. She wanted him to be dead.
"No." That was all she would offer.
"No?" He looked a bit nervous now, wondering what he had done wrong, when asking for such an explanation would keep him occupied for an hour as the sorceress would begin to rant out an answer.
"No. Never"
"Oh." He looked crestfallen, wondering what to do next when his next stupid idea occurred to him. "Hey Matsuko. Maybe you could convince her for me. I know she'd have a great time."
Skyre, nearly dying from trying not to laugh, fell over then in the booth, clutching at her stomach as her roars of laughter echoed under the table. The look on Ifurita's face was priceless and she just couldn't take it anymore. For several minutes, the wolf stayed that way, almost unable to breathe. Ifurita just wanted to kill them both.
"Well, I wonder what it is I've missed." Shuiichi had arrived in time to see Skyre fall over and Ifurita level her death glare on him. The ice demon's eye twitch had increased, giving her the look of a psychopath about to go on a rampage. "Perhaps it would be best if you leave," he suggested kindly to Ryan. "We have a project to work on and you will be bored to tears." The confused Ryan nodded and walked out, wonder what was so funny as he left. "Now that he is gone, I apologize for being late. I'm afraid I became lost on my way."
Skyre had recovered by now, wiping tears from her eyes as she sat up, avoiding looking at her roommate for fear that she would start laughing again. The ice demon looked ready to kill, her temper boiling inside her as she fought the urge to follow Ryan and turn him into an ice sculpture.
"Can someone explain to me what is going on?" Shuiichi begged with a half smile on his face as he sat down with a cut of coffee. Skyre smiled, forcing down another giggle as she offered an explanation.
"Ryan is completely infatuated with Nariko here. He has fallen head over heels for her. She can't stand him. He never notices the death glares or any of that since he is so very captivated. She wants him to just go away and die somewhere so she'll be left alone. I even remember one time when she told him straight up that she hated him and he still came back the next day as though it had never happened." She chuckled at the end of her clarification, giving a sly look out of the corner of her eye at Ifurita
"Well, now that that is cleared up, perhaps we should begin on our project," Shuiichi returned easily, pulling out a small list from his pocket. "I stopped at the library after class to make a list of cities that had a great deal to offer. Perhaps some of these could prove of interest."
Ifurita took the offered list first, skimming over it to compare it to the small list her and Skyre had made while waiting. "I'd say Trier, Aachen, Berlin, or Munich personally."
"And if I had to pick from that list I'd say Trier," Skyre countered, not even looking at the list. She trusted Ifurita, something the ice demon had never gotten used to.
"You can pick that quickly? You must know something that I don't to be so sure in your selection," he laughed. Retrieving the list, he then folded his slender hands around his mug of swiftly cooling coffee. "Well, since we have picked our city, what do you propose we do next?"
"Research," Ifurita snorted. "It's got the Porta Nigra, the Trier Dome, the roman Baths, and something else I can't remember. We could each take one place and then talk about it in as much detail as possible, then combine papers."
"One quick question: What is the Porta Nirga?" he interrupted
"The Black Gate built by the Romans. It's just what the name implies. It was the original gate into the city and is black from all the pollution that is on the stones that were used to build it." I nodded in agreement, having seen the gate myself on a trip through Germany.
"In that case, perhaps I'll take the Roman Baths for my third of the assignment. I'll go get started tonight to make up for my being late. If you ladies will excuse me." He stood and bowed before leaving the café behind him as he dashed into the rain.
"What an interesting character," Skyre noted out loud. She finished her drink and began to pack up her laptop so she could depart as well. "I'm heading back to the apartment. I'll take a nap and then a midnight run. Care to join me?"
"No thanks. I'll come to the apartment later, but I'll be hiding from Ryan." She grimaced at the mere mention of his name, making a face before returning to her tea. "I'll see you later then." Skyre nodded in agreement before venturing out into the waning storm.
