Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Demons Have Feelings, Too ❯ New Girl ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Author's note: This story is a seriously re-written, re-edited version of an old OC fiction. I quit writing it a long time ago because I hated the way it tuned out, and I decided to take another stab at it. I also now fully support Hiei x Mukuro.
I don't own YYH or associated trademarks. Yoshihiro Togashi and the assorted anime people do. I am only borrowing them. Yari, however, is mine.

Demons Have Feelings Too
Chapter 1: New Girl

In the spiritual justice system, the spirit world is represented by a group of young punks who investigate the crimes, an obnoxious, overworked toddler, who prosecutes the offenders.

These are their stories.

DOINK DOINK.

Gah! Don't kill me! -dodges bullets-

All right now, let's see, what we have here is the story of our favorite characters of Yu Yu Hakusho, through the eyes of a young lady who just so happened to meet and join them through several of their adventures.

-

Time: Shortly after the maze castle adventure.
Place: Sarayashiki Junior High School

Keiko Yukimura was on the warpath. Dammit, Yuusuke, you've got some splainin' to do... but unlike I love Lucy, the laugh track was silent and Ethel wasn't going to bail you outta this one...

March up to the roof of the school. Doors flung open, which was Yuusuke's only warning, before a hand snatched the cigarette out of his mouth and another collided with his cheek with a deafening slap.

"That's for the dirty magazine I found in your bag! And you've been SMOKING again!"

"Good morning to you too, Keiko." Yuusuke replied, as soon as he got his bearings. "You do know class hasn't even started yet, and you still feel the need to clobber the hell out of me."

"I was specifically asked to take you down to Takenaka's office as well; he needs to talk to you." Keiko grabbed his sleeve, and started tugging him.

"All right! I'll go, just don't yank me!"

Yuusuke didn't feel like fighting with Keiko today, he was still pretty tired from his recent trip to the demon city, and stopping those stupid beasts. Besides, he felt pretty guilty about Keiko's life being in danger, though he would never have admitted this. Might as well see what the old fart wanted, he could ditch after.

Yuusuke noticed he wasn't alone in the guidance room when he slid open the door and entered. A short-haired girl he had never seen before was sitting at the table, holding a cup of tea. She glanced up at him, and back at her cup. Mr. Takenaka looked as well; he had been speaking to the girl when Yuusuke had entered.

"Good morning Yuusuke, please have a seat. I'm almost done with Miss Fujitaka, she's a new student." He indicated the girl, who was studying the wood grain in the table.

"Like I was saying, you can count on me for anything, and I certainly will honor your father's wish to keep your background private. If you will wait while I speak to Mr. Urameshi here, I'll find you someone to show you around before class."

The girl nodded, and Mr. Takenaka turned to Yuusuke. "Mr. Iwamoto was going through your belongings and found a certain magazine and confiscated it. Don't bring anything like it again."

"What the hell was he doing going through my stuff!?" growled Yuusuke.

Takenaka shrugged. "I gave him a talking to about that myself, but the fact remains it was against school rules. As your punishment you will perform a little service for me, you'll take Miss Fujitaka around the campus and show her what's what, and give her to the teachers' office, she is to be in your class." The girl stood, and gave a small bow of thanks, and turned to Yuusuke.

As Yuusuke led her around campus, Kuwabara and his gang strode up. "Are you cheating on Yukimura?" snickered Kuwabara.

Yuusuke snorted. "Take made me show her around. She's new. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to show her up to the teachers' office."

When they walked past Kuwabara, he shivered. "Something about that girl isn't quite right, but I don't sense anything outright malicious, but it still gave me the creeps," he said to himself.

Yuusuke turned to her when they were on the way up to the teachers' office. "Are you mute or something? You haven't said a word since I saw you in Take's office."

The girl looked at him. "No, I'm not." They passed Keiko.

"Yuusuke, who's that?" asked Keiko.

"New girl," he grunted. "I don't recall her name."

Keiko turned to the newcomer. I'm Keiko Yukimura, I'm class officer of class 2-B. What 's your name and what class are you in?"

"I'm Yari Fujitaka. I'm in 2-B, same as you," she said shortly.

Classes began, and after the new girl was introduced, class went on as usual.

After classes, Yuusuke went to go find something to occupy himself. He settled for hanging out in the streets after nicking a bag of potato chips. Kuwabara found him as he was leaning against a wall, munching away.

"I saw some Kasanegafuchi punks skulking about earlier. Wanna pound 'em?" he asked Yuusuke.

Yuusuke grinned. "Sure, why not, I'm up for some light exercise."

Unfortunately for Yuusuke and Kuwabara, they didn't get to pound the wannabe gangsters. They found all three of them, who were hulking 9th graders, with bloody noses and black eyes, kissing the pavement. One of them was conscious. He sat up, wobbling. He tried to focus on Yuusuke and Kuwabara. Yuusuke grabbed his shirt front and hauled him up.

"Who beat you guys up?" he demanded of the thug.

"N-nobody!" squeaked the frightened boy. He pulled away and bolted, leaving Kuwabara and Yuusuke puzzled.

"No one person besides me could take those guys on themselves," said Yuusuke. He and Kuwabara walked on until they saw a little kid, whose eyes were wide and round.

"Hey, kid, did you see what happened to those punks back there?" asked Yuusuke.

"Sure did mister! This lady kicked their butts!" said the eager youngster.

Yuusuke and Kuwabara's eyes widened. "Lady?"

"Yeah, those guys were picking on her and she beat them up! It was so cool!" the kid's eyes sparkled adoringly.

"What did she look like?" demanded Yuusuke.

"She had short red hair. The kid pointed to a group of Sarayashiki girls that were strolling by, chattering. "She was wearing that outfit, too." Yuusuke nodded his thanks to the child, and the tyke scampered away.

"Doesn't the new girl have short red hair?" asked Kuwabara.

"Yeah, she does," said Yuusuke, "How could such a tiny girl kick the Kasane thugs' butts?"

"I don't know, maybe she dodged them."

"Maybe..." Yuusuke scratched his chin. "At any rate we should keep an eye on her."

"Afraid she'll kick your ass too, Urameshi?"

"You wish, Kuwabara. Hopefully she'll obliterate you so I don't have to." Said Yuusuke, laughing.

"How dare you!" cried Kuwabara, taking a swing, and before long they'd fallen into the familiar routine of a rough and tumble street fight, fading into the noises in the background as they moved farther into the distance.

Many blocks away, a single cone of light from a bedroom lamp infiltrated the dim desk of a girl, whose books lay untouched. Instead, the owner of the room held a framed photograph, whispering to it.

A knock on the door sounded. It opened, and the hall light fell on the occupant, and she rose, leaving the picture behind, as she exited.
