Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Double identity ❯ Unhappy Knight ( Chapter 13 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Wow... Um-- sorry... I didn't realize this much time had lapsed since the last update! I got caught up in-- well, life. I have to work about 25 hours a week now, had to stress for my AP's which are over, and now end of the year projects... I have one week left of school!!

This chapter did not come easily! I nearly had to whip myself to get it written... Yeah, writer's block was that bad. I have the ideas, just can't write it. Blarg, I hate that. But then again, writing this means procrastinating on homework (which I do very well by now) so... Yeah, try to enjoy? ^^;

Disclaimer: I still owe nothing but my congratulation letters from colleges I was admitted into. Which isn't saying much. Still poor, selling stuff... Yeah.

Chapter 13: Unhappy Knight

“Oh thank goodness you're alright, you had me worried sick! Well, not just me of course-- Kurama would've killed me...” rambled a happy toddler. “The important thing is, you're alive! And back to normal I presume, yes?”

Hiei blinked semi tiredly and stared blankly at Koenma. “What the hell happened to me?” he mumbled as he sat up on the bed, plucking an IV out of each arm.

Koenma fidgeted on his chair before answering, “Um... it seems that-- we both didn't read the fine print. It said that, during intercourse, all your water would be sucked out of you unless you drank a glass of water before...”

“Fine print...” mumbled an unhappy fire demon.

“Yes. Also, you have to go see her as soon as you can walk, she's not-- normal, let's just say.” frowned Koenma.

Hiei raised an eyebrow, “I'm not her guardian. I did what you wanted. I'm done.”

Koenma glared seriously, “No you're not Hiei, not until she's back to normal! Even then, she'll need someone to look after her in case someone tries to get to her.”

A low growl was heard, “You baby breathing liar.” snarled a pissed Hiei, his eyes flaming in rage. Stuck babysitting!?

“It says you just have to kiss her! A-and that should work!” hurriedly replied Koenma, inching away in the chair.

In one swift movement, Hiei was standing on both feet, his face a bit paler than usual but a lot more alive than it was before. “Fine.” he hissed and headed for the room, Koenma trudging at his heels.

Entering the bland room once more, Hiei glared at Koenma who smiled nervously and waited outside, in his office. Sighing softly, Hiei tiredly looked at Mizu once more and wondered if it would be the last time seeing her... He hoped so anyway, all she did was bring trouble into his life.

Quickly, Hiei bent over and let his lips meet Mizu's for what he hoped was the last time. He always knew women would mean his downfall.

Without waiting any longer, he tried to storm out of the room, but really looked like a drunk attempting to pass the “walk on a straight line” test. A drunk who was failing, mind you.

“There.” grumbled Hiei unpleasantly, “Happy?” he nearly growled.

Koenma sweat dropped, “Um... Sure. But-- now you'll have to keep your eyes on her. We never know what could happen now that-- well, she acquired powers she wasn't supposed to.”

While Koenma and Hiei were arguing, Mizu opened her eyes...

Blink... Blink, blink. A white room? Where the heck was this? A soft groan echoed across the room as blue eyes scanned the said room. 'This doesn't look familiar...'

At least she was back to normal, but as far as she knew, she had always been “normal.” Mizu thought she could hear two voices arguing nearby, but it didn't matter. She didn't know where she was, and as far as she was concerned, the people arguing could be affiliated with the ones that knocked her out in the first place.

Just thinking about that place made her shudder, she just wanted to go home and be left alone. 'How the hell do I get home from here? I don't even know where here is...' she sighed to herself and looked down at her knees.

Just then, she realized she wasn't dressed normally. To be more exact, she hardly recognized herself. “Wicked...” she whispered in a breath.

Jerking her head back up, she thought she could hear one voice getting closer. 'Uh oh... I don't want them to find me! What do I do? How do I get home!?' she panicked and snapped her eyes shut.

“And I'm telling you it could be your freedom!” scolded Koenma, stepping into the room, “She'll be so grateful to learn it was you who rescu--” His eyes widened, his heart nearly stopping. “Where is she!?”

Hiei peeked inside the room and noticed that, indeed, the mysterious creature had disappeared. All that was left, was a small drop of water on the bed.

“SHE CAN'T JUST VANISH!!!” shrieked Koenma, putting all his ogres to frantic work.

Hiei glanced at all the corners of the room. He was sure the demon proof wall had been closed until Koenma stepped inside. Even though he hated to admit it, she was pretty good to escape from the room that constituted a prison even for him!

“Explain this!” glared Koenma, standing on a chair to appear taller than Hiei.

The fire demon simply shrugged, “How can I?”

“... She-- you... Well... She--!” Koenma was making no sense with his frantic breathing.

Meanwhile, Mizu cracked one eye open to see if the “enemy” was here and-- somehow she found herself in her living room! “Woah... how did I--? When--” she paused and blinked, “Uwah??” she was just so confused! One minute threatened, the next she was safe.

“Well, whatever... I'm just-- going to ignore everything that happened and-- go eat!” she smiled and stood up, cooking some spaghetti for herself.

After engulfing the delicious food rather quickly, Mizu glanced at her awesome digital clock and her eyes widened. It had already been four days!? Holy crap! Where did the time fly? It sure as hell didn't feel like it.

Glancing outside, the blue haired girl -or fairymph as we should accurately call her- looked out the window. She still had a couple of hours before the sun set. Twiddling her fingers nervously, Mizu concluded she couldn't just forget the entire freakish episode. Something had changed in her, she knew that much.

What though, was an entirely different matter. About to go into her room to change, the doorbell rang. Slightly surprised, she wanted to go grab some clothes to at least make it look like she was hanging out in her apartment. No time, instead, she grabbed her bathrobe and hoped it would do the trick...

“Mizu!! Where have you been!?” exclaimed a suddenly relieved Kurama, nearly hugging his friend to death.

“S-shuichi!” she replied, extremely surprised.

“Do you know how worried I was when you didn't call or come to school all this time?” he scolded her with a frown after releasing her from his hug.

Mizu blushed in embarrassment, it's not like she could have just summoned a phone out of nowhere when she was being electrocuted by insane demons. “Judging by your reactions-- I'd have to say... Very?” she tried to smile apologetically.

“Got that right.” mumbled an unhappy fox demon before he couldn't resist her smile and lost the frown, gaining a smile of his own. “I'm so glad you're alright, I was so worried! Where did you vanish to?”

“I... had a really bad cold, which turned out not to be a cold but a branch of influenza which gave me a fever and swelled my--”

“Ok, alright-- Slow down.” interrupted Kurama, smiling at his blue friend. She had always been like that. He could tell she was lying just because her speech was so fast and slightly slurred. “It's fine if you don't want to tell me, but next time, at least give me a heads up. Ok?” he smiled.

Mizu felt a pang in her heart, he trusted her so much... When he turned around to leave, she nearly grabbed him to tell him the entire truth she had been kept hidden from him. But as he walked down the corridor, her courage vanished and she closed the door silently, remorse stabbing through her heart and mind.

Well... that's that! Hopefully it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was when I first wrote it, but now I think it actually-- makes sense... ish? Again, sorry for the long wait!
