Chapter 14: Back in town
Chapter 14: Back in town
Mizu had no time to linger on Shuichi's complete trust in her even though it was touching and made her feel loved again.
Glancing at the sunset, she prepared herself for another transformation. As soon as the sun had vanished, she yelped in pain and encircled her arms around her stomach. Pain was shooting through her body from everywhere!
Unable to keep her balance on both legs, Mizu collapsed on the ground and bit her bottom lip to prevent screams from echoing across the building, or the entire town. Snapping her eyes shut, the fairymph rolled on her back, tears moistening her eyes. Since when was the pain this intense!?
Something poking from her back made her roll on her side and curl up like an infant, four wings then emerged from her back and flapped open. Tears rolled down her cheeks as her body started trembling from the pain. 'What's-- going on?' she thought while whimpering softly, attempting not to move in order to reduce the amount of pain.
Suddenly, her sixth sense told her someone was watching her. Was it one of those bastards from that place that came to watch her suffer? Mizu really wanted to smack them with all her “might” but right now, the pain was too intense to allow her to focus on something else.
“You'll never be able to control your powers as long as you let them control you.” said a deep voice.
Opening her eyes slowly, Mizu tilted her head towards the window. Standing on the balcony rail was a cloaked figure. The male was short and had spiky hair, that was all she could make out from this far. “Go-- away!” she tried to shout but ended up barely able to speak.
Cringing, Mizu weakly attempted to scoot away as the figure approached her slowly, his face still hidden in shadows. A small cry left her lips as she failed to move an inch, and before she knew it, the person was standing above her, his cold eyes piercing her fragile body.
“Stand up. This pain is nothing compared to what your powers grant you.” ordered the red eyed person.
Slightly panting, Mizu tried to ignore him and the pain, but that proved rather difficult. “I said, stand up.” snarled the actually not so tall person, shooting a hand down to grab Mizu by the throat. A strong grip made her gasp, her eyes nearly bulging out of her head.
Was he trying to kill her!? She had enough on her plate without him adding to it! Before she knew it, she was trembling on her two legs, wings protruding from her back and hanging loosely. “Now you have an excuse to be in pain.” snorted the rather short red eyed person.
Barely able to manage herself, Mizu finally gathered enough brain power to ask: “Who are you?”
The person scoffed and turned his gaze away, as if he hated her for asking such a degrading thing. “Hn. In a sense, you owe me your life. Twice.”
Cryptic. Frowning while trying to remain on her shaky legs, Mizu stared at him. Such a short person, blood red eyes and a white star burst in jet black hair. Nope, she was sure she never met the guy.
The ruby eyes turned and locked with her blue ones, “Hiei.”
Apparently, that was all he was going to say. Too much information at such a bad time, besides, none of it made any sense to Mizu anyway. “What do you-- mean... owe...” she mumbled, her eyelids drooping slowly as her sense of balance diminished along with her vision.
Knock out. Uh, I mean, fainted! Thankfully, before the she hit the ground and most probably break her fragile wings, Hiei -sort of graciously- grabbed onto her by the shoulders and sighed before slinging her top half over his shoulder... again.
The only difference was that, this time, she actually saw and talked to him.

Jolting up in her bed, Mizu smacked her hand on the alarm clock buzzing obnoxiously. “Man what a drea--” Her mouth hung open as she stared at her legs. Well, more specifically at the clothes covering her legs. They were the same as-- yesterday?

Groaning, Mizu held her head for a moment. “So it wasn't a dream.” she complained silently. Sighing, she stood up from her bed and decided to go eat something regardless. Maybe she was just um, hallucinating because of starvation... Or something!
After cleaning the remains of breakfast, Mizu went to her room and stared at herself in the mirror. She couldn't recognize herself. Alright, alright, maybe she could... She just wasn't used to it. Glancing at the clock in the mirror, her eyes widened. “Shit I'm gonna be late!”
Mentally cursing, the blue haired girl frantically searched for her school uniform. “Crap, where the hell is it!?” Panic, panic! About to dive into another drawer, Mizu froze in front of the mirror, blinked, and stared again.
“... What... the hell!?” In the mirror, staring back at her, was her, in school uniform. “But I didn't even find it... I only thought of what it looked lik-- Oh what the hell, I'm so late!” The teenager then proceeded to run out of her apartment after making sure to lock the door behind her and hurry to school.
“Please tell me we don't have a test, please tell me we don't have a test!” pleaded Mizu, both her hands clapped together as if praying would change a teacher's mind.
A soft chuckle disrupted her intense praying and use of psychic waves to convince the teacher not to give a test today. “I don't think that's working... But you can relax, the test's tomorrow.”
Mizu let her head fall flat on the desk in relief. “Thank goodness!” she mumbled to the wood facing her mouth.
“What was that?” inquired Shuichi even though he already knew what she had mumbled.
“Oh nothing... I assume you're not doing anything today riiight?” she nudged her friend in his side, winking at him with a giant smile. “How about helping me cram?” she gave an angelic smile.
Shuichi sweatdropped, “I suppose... if you can wait after the class meeting.”
Nodding fervently, Mizu nodded enthusiastically, “Of course! I'll wait for you in the library then.” she grinned.
“What section?” he asked before seeing her do-you-need-to-ask face. Sighing, Kurama ventured a wild guess, “Manga?”
Mizu grinned widely, “Duuuh!”
“You do know you could use that time to study, right?”
“Tsk! As if! Procrastination is the way to go! You know it's my motto...” she laughed softly.
Kurama hung his head in defeat, “I know too well indeed...” he sighed again but couldn't help smirking at his bubble headed friend. It was truly a miracle she did well on her tests. “See you at four then.”
Mizu nodded with a smile and turned around as the teacher called the class to attention. Pretending to be taking boring lecture notes, the blue haired girl actually was trying to make sense of what happened to her. She could change clothes... without clothes? It sure would save money.
What about that whole, I'm here and now I'm there thing? That could save time to get from place to place, as long as nobody notices her. Yet the biggest question nagging at her was why her transformation was a lot more painful now.
Classes ended later rather than sooner, and Mizu dashed out of the school grounds to the public library. She needed to take her mind off things for a little while, until Shuichi came to make her study. Ugh! What a chore!
Why did learning by osmosis not work!? It would be so great! Perfect grades, more free time... If only. Mizu stopped in front of the library and slumped on a bench. The sun was beating down on the street and she felt slightly dizzy for some reason.
The blue haired girl put a hand to her forehead, momentarily closing her eyes to shut out the brightness. Randomly, the sun rays weren't blinding her through her eyelids. How weird. Opening her light blue eyes, Mizu stared at the boy standing in the way of the sun, a bottle of water extended in her face.
“Thank y--” Her eyes widened in recognition. Standing up abruptly, she jabbed an accusing finger at the black haired boy. “What did you do to me!?”
Hiei glared at her for making a scene and causing passer-bys to stare at them curiously. With a small grunt, he shoved his left palm against Mizu's left shoulder to jerk her back on the bench. “Keep it down, you fool. You're attracting unwanted attention.” he reprimanded her.
Mizu felt her mouth was still open and closed it shut before turning her face away in a huffing manner. “Are you going to take it or pass out on me again?” growled an impatient Hiei, shoving the water bottle in her face again.
Snatching the bottle out of his hand, Mizu glared at the short boy. “Fine! But tell me who the hell you are and why you're here!?”
Hiei gruffed a sigh and remained standing in front of her, acting as a shield that provided shade.

Holy cow it's been forever!!! I'm SO sorry!!! I've had (or still have) writer's block for the longest time and if I didn't kick myself, I probably would never have written this chapter! I know it sucked, but it's a transition chapter >.> You know, one of these... Then life got out of control and look at me, I'm in college now! Absorbed in college stuff @.@ I know fictionzone isn't working and freedom of speech will be closed during December, so I wanted to let you all know I have a website now! The link is my profile, and I'm trying to update it whenever I find time. It's still a rough draft and unfinished, but you can drop comments or whatnot since the site will be down.
Thanks so much for waiting!!
Nekomi_Meow: ^-^ Thank you! Sorry for the wait ._. I hope you're not (too) mad!
kasai_kage: Haha, pervy Koenma is right... Thanks for reviewing! And sorry for the loooong wait @.@ Hope it was-- kinda worth it? -.o
silver_wolf: I don't think it 'looks like,' I think they do! o.o I'm not sure if that's sad because that means not a lot of people are reading this, or if it's great because it means you're one dedicated fan! =D And that everyone else doesn't bother reviewing :P So thanks for sticking with me! ^^
animerules: I haven't put all the chapters on animespiral because people don't review to tell me to update. So, I forget about it, there's always a lot to do... As for the cliffies, I try not to, but apparently they're my specialty or something @.@
