The early sunlight streamed through the slatted blinds, depositing the warm light onto the blue blanket. The birds were chirping and early temperature readings indicated it was going to be a very hot day. People were already up and about, savoring the break from the rainy skies.

However, as is true with anything, not everyone appreciated the bright light. Especially those who finally had a day they weren't expected to get up. “I hate the sun,” the raven haired teen grumbled. He had tried shoving his head under the pillow, but that just made the air too hot for comfort.

Groaning, Yusuke sat up, rubbing the remains of sleep out of his eyes. Looking at the clock, he groaned again. “Okay, I guess it wasn't as late as I thought.” It was, in fact, twelve o' clock. Quickly getting up, he threw a plain white tee shirt on over a pair of blue jeans. Lastly, he tugged on some sneakers, and was out the door.

He ran down the street, already late, towards the arcade. By the time he got there, his breath was coming in short gasps, and sweat was dripping down his back. The sun continued to beat down on him, and he eagerly walked inside. The air conditioned air met his sweat stained face, giving him a brief headache.

Looking around, he quickly spotted his motley crew of friends. “Nice of you to join us Yusuke,” Kurama said, seeing his, evidently tired, friend.

“You're late,” Hiei added, as if he wasn't already aware.

“Way to point out the obvious,” he muttered. “So why did ya call us all here, Kurama?”

“Well, I have an interesting project for school that I thought you all might be able to help me with.” Yusuke and Kuwabara groaned at the mention of school, while Hiei supplied his customary `hn'.

“Come on, this is the summer. Just because you do extra work, doesn't mean you have to drag us down with you,” Yusuke said.

“Ah, but I think you'll all rather enjoy this. I am supposed to, along with some others, stay awake for as long as possible and record the results.”

“Let me get this straight fox, you want us to stay awake, at your house, until we pass out. So you can get some letter in human school.”

“Well, yes,” Kurama said, clearly thinking he had underestimated how easily they would go along with this.

“Hn, sounds stupid, but I don't have anything better to do.”

“That's great! Yusuke, Kuwabara, how about the two of you.”

“Free food at your house, count me in,” Yusuke said. As long as he didn't have to be out in the heat, he was almost up for anything.

“Yeah, me too. I bet I'll out last all of you three too!” Kuwabara proudly declared.

“Okay, great, then come over this evening,” Kurama said. After that Kurama and Hiei left after they all had agreed on a time to meet. Yusuke and Kuwabara stayed and played games. One thing for certain, this would be an interesting time together.
