Chapter Eight: Saying Goodbye

It was the morning after Amelia's surprise party. Amelia was in her room packing the last of her belongings into her suitcase.

I can't believe it's finally the day. At least everyone supports me in this. I don't think I'd be able to do this if they didn't, Amelia thought.

She closed her suitcase and sat on the bed. The gifts the others had given her lay next to her luggage. She sat there staring at the picture of her family. She was startled out of her thoughts by Hiei's sudden appearance.

"Are you going to take all day?"

"I'm coming just give me a few minutes okay."

"You've been packing for an hour and a half. How much stuff could you possibly have to bring."

"Well excuse me for taking a while to figure out what remnants of my previously normal life to bring."

"Hn. Just hurry up."

"Whatever you say Mr. Doom-and-Gloom."

Hiei glared at that comment. Amelia didn't really feel like packing so she thought it would be fun to annoy Hiei for a while or at least talk to him.

"So...you're a fire demon too right?"

"Hn."

"I'll take that as a yes."

She paused trying to think of a good question.

"Uh....what's it like in Japan?"

Oh yeah, good one Amelia. He's really going to answer that, Amelia thought to herself.

As she had predicted Hiei just stood there in silence.

"Okay do you just hate me or something?"

Hiei gave her a questioning look though he tried to conceal it.

"You've hardly spoken to me the entire time you guys have been here. You just keep staring at me. What is with you?"
She asked in frustration.

Hiei was about to reply with some snide comment when Kuwabara walked in.

"Hey are you ready to go yet? Urameshi says you need to get your butt downstairs or we're leaving without you."

"Idiot human,"
Hiei said under his breath.

"I'm coming, I'm coming. Jeez
is everybody from Japan this impatient?"

"Hey I resent that,
" Kuwabara said.

"Whatever let's go."

Everyone was waiting for Amelia downstairs. All the children crowded around her.

"You be
tter come back soon or I'm going to go to Japan and drag you home myself," Anna told her.

"Don't worry, there's nothing in the world that could keep me from coming back,"
she assured her.

"Who knows, maybe when you come back you'll be almost as strong as me and Sky,"
Z teased.

"Aren't I already stronger?
" She said while hitting her over the head softly.

"Just don't get killed while you're gone okay. Fighting those weak morons at school just wouldn't be the same without you,"
Sky said.

Everyone else said their goodbyes in different ways. Some with words of advice and others just broke down crying. Amelia tried not to think too hard about leaving for fear that she would change her mind.

Everything said and done, Amelia left with the boys in a cab that was taking them to the airport. Amelia looked behind her and saw the place t
hat had been her home for twelve years of her life fade into the distance.

Amelia got onto the plane quickly so she couldn't turn back. She closed her eyes as it took off from the ground.

"Goodbye,"
she whispered.

Upon opening her eyes Amelia saw that the others had already sat down next to and around her. Normally that wouldn't be a problem except that Hiei was the one sitting next to her.

Okay just look out the window. Pretend he is not there, she thought.

Amelia could feel Hiei's stare on her. She tried to ignore him by telling herself to keep looking out the window, but eventually she couldn't take it anymore.

"Do you have to stare at me like that?"

"Hn."

"You are really annoying sometimes you know that?"

"I could say the same thing about you."

"Oh forget it."

In an effort to ignore Hiei she turned around and started talking to Kurama.

"So what am I supposed to do in Japan
exactly?"

"Well we're going to help you get control of your powers and learn to fight better and things
of that nature."

"Are you going to
teach me?"

"Well no. I was hoping to tell you later because I thought you might overreact. Hiei is the one who is going to train you."

Amelia stared at him in a shocked silence.

"Are you trying to kill me?"

"No of course
I'm not."

"Are you aware that Hiei probably is?"

"He's not I assure you. Hiei acts like he wants to kill everyone you'll get used to it eventually."

Amelia turned around and sat down in her seat again. She looked at Hiei only to see him smirking slightly.

"You knew huh?"

"Maybe I did, and maybe I didn't."

Oh joy he's going to murder me, Amelia thought.

Hiei of course heard her thoughts.

"I'm not going to murder you."

"How did you...you can read my mind?"

"What was your first clue?"

"Oh man."

"I'm not going to kill you but the training I put you through will be extremely brutal. I'm not holding back on you. So I won't be surprised if
you quit."

"You think I'm going to
quit huh? Well you are most decidedly mistaken. I've never quit at anything."

I'm gonna prove him wrong if it's the last thing I do, she thought.
