Chapter Two

A fuzzy assault

"What the hell are these things?" asked Yusuke trying to wade through them.

"I don't have a clue and neither dose anybody else, that's why Koenma sent for you."

The pile seemed to end about five feet from the door but the floor of the hallway was still littered with them. Most were scurrying across the floor while others just seemed to didder and make a purring sound. Yusuke followed Botan trying to watch where he steps and noticed the floor and walls had what looked like small scorch marks on them.

He wanted to ask her about them but they had reached another door. She opened it with some hesitation and although there was no wave this time, about fifty of the fuzzy globs came runny out under their feet. Yusuke walked through the door and into a large room filled with utter chaos.

Paper and fuzzy globs were all over the floor. Dozens of ogres were running around trying rid themselves of the things. Several had large brooms and were sweeping paths through the mess. Others had shovels and were trying to scoop them up and even smash them. However, this didn't seem to be working.

Every time the ogres would shovel them up the globs would jump back to the floor, and the smashing was just as difficult for the little creatures were quite fast. Yusuke eyed the room in utter shock, he wasn't sure if he should laugh or scream.

Botan grabbed his arm and dragged him across the room to where Koenma was seated at his desk. He sat in his oversized chair very rigidly, his pacifier bobbing up and down and a vain throbbing on his tiny forehead.

Hiei and Kurama were also there looking just as agitated. Kurama was a bit paler then usual and his eyes kept darting around the room as if he was looking for something. Hiei had a look of plain disgust and kicked one of the creatures that had settled near his foot.

"Someone want to fill me in, what the hell are these things?" Yusuke said as he made his way to his companions.

"I'm afraid we don't know, they just appeared here out of nowhere yesterday." Koenma said as he watched one run across his desk.

"They have infested the entire castle and most of the surrounding areas." Said Kurama.

"Oh don't tell me you brought me here for exterminator duty."

"No, this is about something else although we believe that the two could be related."

"What do you mean?"

"Tell me Yusuke, what do you know about parallel universes" Koenma said.

"Not a damn thing."

"Figures, I'll try not use big words so you can understand."

"Oh thanks a lot shrimp."

one hour later

"...In conclusion I believe that this strange power has affected the space-time continuum and caused these things to appear in the Spirt world. So, is that clear enough for you?"

"............" Said Hiei and Kurama.

"Ah, Koenma?"

"Yes Yusuke?"

"WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?"

"I think I summed it up quite nicely." Said Koenma.

"Yeah, if you're a science nerd with no life."

" If you would go to school once in a while you would know. It's not my fault you're as dumb as a sack of rocks!"

"Oh Yeah, well..."

"Yusuke please, this is a very serious matter." Kurama interjected "The important thing is that someone is using a very deadly and ancient power. If he is not stopped, it could tear the very universe apart."

"All-right professor Kurama, why don't you translate." said Yusuke

"Very well, four days ago there was a strange murder in Tokyo. You might have heard about it in the news. The victims were an American couple." Yusuke nodded his head and Kurama continued.

"Their bodies were burnt beyond recognition yet, strangely there was no damage to the hotel room where they were found. However, what concerns us is that their souls are missing."

"Are you serious?" Yusuke said.

"And they are not the only ones. There have been three other murders similar to this one, two men in America and a woman in England. All four murders were the same, bodies burned and their souls gone. If the souls were destroyed or imprisoned we don't know yet. However, the power used to do this was believed to no longer exist. What little we do know is that these are not random attacks. Though none of the victims had any personal connection with each other, whoever is doing this went to a great deal of trouble. "

"OK, with you so far, but what doses that have to do with space-time whoosy whatsis Koenma was talking about?" Yusuke said, trying not to look as confused as he really was.

"The power this person is using seems to effect the very laws of physics, causing chaos where there should be order. These strange creatures are one of the result. Wherever these things are from, they don't belong here."

Although this explanation was simpler then the on Koenma had given him, they were still going in an area he was completely useless in. Kurama opened his mouth to continue but was stopped by as loud cough by Konema.

"I'll take it from here Kurama." Koenma said standing in his oversized chair, kicking several of the little creatures away.

" Yusuke sense you don't know squat about space and time I'll take it you've never heard of the Gelf'Quan."

"Nope."

"Actually neither have I." Said Heie who had been silent and disinterested until now.

"The Gelf'Quan was a race that exist in a universe parallel to are own. They had the ability to cross dimensions and some believed that they could even travel through time. Four thousand years ago four of them found their way to this dimension. Actually you probably have heard of them. They where they were worshiped as gods by the Ancient Egyptians."

"So, are you saying that one of these Gelf guys is running around snatching souls?" yusuke said.

"Were not sure, It's not likely that it's one of the original four who came here. They left our dimension nearly four thousands years ago and no others have come sense. However we don't have enough information at this point to rule anyone out."

"So where do we go from here."

"Ah....Yes I was just getting to that. I think it all started at....."

Koenma stopped as several of the small critters in front of his desk started screeching loudly before running off in every direction. One of them remained were it was, it shivering and made a low wheezing sound. Koenma's face paled and his eyes widen with alarm. The little fuzz ball gave and ear shattering `EEK!!' and then was still.

Koenma screamed and dove behind his chair, Heie cursed and dashed to the opposite side of the room. Kurama grabbed Yusuke's armed and yanked him away form the desk.

"Kurama what the hell is...."

*BOOM*
