*~*~*
"A decade ago, I never thought I would be.
A twenty three on the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe is me
But I guess that it comes with the territory.
An ominous landscape of never - ending calamity.
I need you to hear. I need you to see.
That I have had all I can take
And exploding seems like a definite possibility
To me"

Hiei sat in the park, this wasn't how he expected his life to turn out. He told himself once he'd been released from the binds of being a Reikai Tantei he would return home to the Youkai and continue the lifestyle he'd left behind. After all it was all he knew how to do. There was also the fact that his sister had returned to the Ice Realm and it was becoming more and more difficult to keep track of her.

The real problem was telling his best friend, fighting companion, and the one person who loved him for what he was that he was going to leave his side for such a selfish reason. He hoped the red head would agree to go with him but he knew the chance was slim. His friend had an affinity of love for the human that gave birth to his current form, even though they really were in no way related.

Still, he'd made his choose and he wasn't one to back down ever, no matter what the cost. Still, he wasn't sure how he would hold up with Kurama's resistance. He valued his Kitsune and would miss him dearly. Hopefully he'd see this and find some way to make it work. It was the only thing he could hope for.

So the raven haired demon took a deep breath and glanced around the park one last time. He'd miss the scenery, that was for sure. The Youkai didn't look this good. Still, the scenery couldn't make up for the quiet, calm, and nerve grinding simplicity. He missed the adrenalin from fighting, the willpower to outlast your opponent, the split second decisions that could mean life or death. He missed everything he once thought of as troublesome and annoying.

He stood up and balanced himself on the branch. He was even annoyed that he only needed to learn one route to get to the kitsune's home. He'd taken the route so many time he could do it in his sleep. With a sigh he jumped off the branch and became a black streak as he made his way away from the park one last time and toward the house he knew so well.

The window, of course, was open and it wasn't odd for the boy to slip right in. Once he entered the home he looked for any sign that the kitsune had returned from his work. He found no such sign. So he sat on the windowsill and waited. Even thought he was what the humans called an adult the kitsune had stayed with his mother to take care of her in her old age.

Closing his eyes he contemplated what would be said. He knew Kurama would calculate some way to make him change his mind and he had to be ready for that. He only got a few moments for his thought though as he felt eye fall upon him. He glanced down at the front yard. The kitsune had returned home. Their eyes met and Kurama smiled, Hiei however just looked away. Even his smile was making his decision faultier.

It took a moment but finally he heard the front door open and he knew he'd confused the kitsune and it would only be moments before he'd reach the room. He focused on the sounds and heard the quick exchange of words between the red head and his mother and it was only moments before he heard footsteps on the stairs rushing up to the room. He left the perch on the window to stand just as the other entered the room.

"Hiei, what's going on? What happened?" The kitsune asked a low, rushed voice as he closed the door.

Hiei knew he was the only one who had ever seen this side of Kurama. He always put on a calm, cool front no matter the situation. Right now, however, he was rushed and nervous and he let it all show. It tore into his soul that he was going to force the kitsune to back into his uncaring state.

"I've made a decision." He said bluntly, "I'm leaving the Ningenkai."

The red head had taken a few steps forward but now he faltered and stopped, "But I thought we decided..."

"I can't wait anymore." He cut off the other, "I can't stay here anymore."

He could see the kitsune's green eyes darken. It hurt Hiei that he'd already begun to close himself off. Even if he did change his mind now the relationship between them had changed.

"What did I do? It has to be that." The red head looked at the raven haired demon, "Don't cut me off this time. I should get to speak my piece. We talked about this, we decided that we'd stay in the Ningenkai till my mother passed away and I settled things with my brother. Then we'd go to our real home and I'd switch to Yoko and we'd start life there. We'd have a territory, we'd have a castle." The kitsune's voice hitched and he had to stop himself.

Hiei frowned, so the red head's emotions weren't as cut off as he'd thought. He knew the other deserved an explanation and he'd do his best to give him one.

"I still want that, I do. I can't wait any longer though." He paused, but the red head didn't speak, he obviously wanted more, "I can't stand the consistency any longer. I can't live like that. My time here is going to kill me. When we were Tanteis at least I still had a chance to keep my skills sharp. I have nothing now, no way to fill my time. Training is only good if you can put it to practical use."

Kurama wasn't sure that was true but the two had different style though and perhaps hand to hand was different from his distance attacks. It was obvious that the demon was unhappy and he wanted his happiness but he wasn't sure if he'd be able to sacrifice his own to make it happen. He was scared he'd lose him.

"How long have you been thinking about this?" The kitsune asked softly, "When were you planning to leave?"

Hiei could feel the pain in his voice, "I'm leaving tonight. I wanted to tell you I was going, I didn't want to just disappear." He said softly, pausing for a moment, "Come with me."

There was no reaction from the red head and Hiei knew there was no way he could convince him to go with. This would be where they went their separate ways.
