Chapter One

“Watch out!”

That’s how it all started. How I came to be stuck in this hell hole for almost two months. Possibly even longer, seeing as I haven’t paid attention to time or day. All to take care of that pig headed, egotistical monster. I think I’m getting ahead of myself… I’m Kumiko Mitsu, one of the most renowned healing demons you’ll ever find. At the moment I’m attending Oxford to get a PhD in medicine. My master, Lord of the Eastern Demon realm, thought that it would be a good idea for me to learn about human medicine.
So I’ve been stuck in the human world for close to 5 years when I got a very upsetting letter. I was sitting in my dorm room with my room mate (seriously what is it with these human customs) when a mail carrier came to our door. My room mate opened the door curiously, seeing as no one knocked, and let in the plain dressed man.
I was laying on my bed, on my lap top, working on a paper and only looked up when I heard a cough. I looked at the dark haired man for a minute before I recognized him. “Hector1” I stood up and walked over to the butler of my masters castle. “I didn’t recognize you without your… glasses.” I looked at my room mate Ivy. “Ivy this is the butler of the old man I work for, Hector. This is my room mate Ivy.”
“Yes I’ve heard of Ivy threw the letters Master gets on your update.” Hector smiled.
“I think your master’s weird…” Ivy mumbled and sat on her bed.
“I’m only here to deliver this.” Hector handed me a sealed envelope. “He knew you wouldn’t take it seriously if someone else brought it.” he smiled. “I’m also here to make sure you listen to his orders.”
I opened the wax seal and unfolded the letter. Then I screamed. “He’s sending me away?!” I glared at the paper. “Why?!”
“Didn’t you read the paper?” Hector chuckled then looked under the bed for my suitcase.
“Top of the shelf in the closet.” I point to the closet and reread the paper. “A favor to an old friend? Koenma is an old friend to him?”
“He said that it was an old favor that you owed Koenma.” Hector started to pack my bag. “I’ve already set up a plane flight for you in the private jet and a limo is waiting for you at the airport.”
“Wow a private jet? Limo?” Ivy laughed. “I’m surprised that you have that much money on your hands. The only electronic thing I’ve seen you have is that lap top.”
“I needed the laptop for the classes.” I closed my lap top and handed it to Hector. “What about my classes?”
“Taken care of. Your teachers will e-mail your work to you and you’ll send it in threw email or mail.” Hector zipped my bad up. “I had medical supplies sent to the temple already and they know when you’ll be arriving.”
“Ehhh…” I looked at Ivy who tried to look uninterested. “If I need extra help I’ll send for you.” I sighed as she smiled. She was a human but she was tolerable. And she was pretty good in medicine.
“Call me if you need me.” Ivy sat up. “I guess you’re leaving now?”
“Yes.” I got off the bed as Hector grabbed my bag. “ doubt I’ll need you though. It’s probably an old man worrying about a new spot.” Hector and I walked out. “Bye.” I closed the door. Hector and I just stood there for a moment and a portal appeared. He handed me my bag and I stepped in.
The swirling made me feel sick. Healing demon or not, everyone gets sick when going threw a portal. Unless your him. Nothing seems to faze him. When I came out on the other side of the portal I was at the bottom of a large fight of stairs outside. Gripping my bag tighter I started to walk calmly up them, keeping myself at a pace.
Finally reaching the top I went straight to the front door without stopping. Before I could even knock the door opened and a bright blue haired girl stood there. “Ah Mitsu! Its so great to see you again.”
“Hello Botan. May I come in?” She moved aside.
“Of course!’ She took my free hand. “Everyone’s waiting in the living room. We’re so glad you could come so fast! He’s really sick.”
“What happened?” I asked.
“Koenma’s detectives were on a mission when one had a small lack of judgment and a shadow demon stabbed him. He was fine, it was a pretty shallow cut but when we got back he passed out.” Botan explained quickly and lead me into the living room.
“Ah Miss Mitsu, thank you for coming.” Koenma gave a small bow. “These are three of my spirit detectives, Yusuke, Kurama and Kuwabara. Also the owner of the temple, Genki.” Koenma motioned to everyone. “Oh and this is Yukina.” I looked at the red eyed girl and smiled.
“I know of Yukina. And Yusuke I have heard much about you.” I bowed to them both. “Master Genki your fighting style fills the rumors I hear and thank you for letting me stay at your temple. Its an honor to meet you.”
“See Yusuke, that’s proper respect.” Genki stood. “I’ll show you to the sick room and then your room. You can leave your bag here one of these dimwit boys will get it.” I fallowed her down the hall, keeping my eyes open.
“How does she know me and Yukina?” Yusuke whispered but I heard him anyway. Genki motioned to a closed door but I stood for a minute to hear Koenma’s answer.
“She use to be a partner of Hiei.” my skin crawled.
“Don’t tell me…” I glared at the door and opened it. Immediately his sent came to my nose. “I’m out of here.” I turned sharply and stormed into the living room to be stopped.
“Mitsu where are you going?” Koenma asked.
“I am not going to stay here and take care of that asshole!” I yelled. “Let him die.” I glared at Koenma. “How dare you call me for this.”
“Mitsu, you’re the best I can get and you know Hiei’s powers and physical attributes better than anyone.” Koenma held up his hands to stop me. “Also from what I’ve known your one of two who have encountered this poison before.”
“And you think that’s going to make me save his life?” I growled.
“He’s going to die?” a soft voice spoke behind me. I cringed at the voice of Hiei’s sister. Of course I knew who she was, Hiei told me a long time ago when we use to tolerate each other.
“Mitsu you have to!” Koenma took a hold of my sleeve.
“I have to WHAT?” I grabbed his collar and pulled him up to my eye level, which wasn’t much higher. “Say it Koenma. I dare you..”
“You have to help him, from what I understand, you owe him too.”
“I owe that murdering bastard nothing!” I threw him. “If anything he owe’s me his fuckin life! Or more likely his death!”
“Y-you want him to die?” Yukina gasped and I cringed again.
“Lets make this easy for you.” Koenma put his hands down, seeing my resolve. “You help us or you go back to jail.”
“Blackmail?” I raised an eyebrow. “I guess that’s how you got him to work for you.” I mumbled.
“Please miss Mitsu, I know he’s not always that nice but he’s protected me and he’s a great friend to us.” Yukina looked up at me with tears in her eyes. “Please you can’t let him die.”
Ahh shit a tearful sister. “Did he ever tell you?” I asked her and her curios face told me she didn’t know. I just nodded and turned to the three boys. “Any of you have a cell phone?” They all pulled one out and I grabbed the closest one. Dialing a number quickly I turned to Koenma. “Set up another portal to show up where ever she is. I hate to do this but I need help from a human.”
“Hello?” I heard Ivy pick her phone up.
“Ivy, its me.”
“Hey Kummy.” Ivy sighed. “How’s the plane flight going?”
“You trust me right?”
“As far as an amazing doctor and room mate goes yea, you’ve never turned me wrong.” I could just see a smile spread on her face. “What do you need?”
“Run down to the lab, don’t worry a check will be sent to the hospital for double from my client.” I looked at Koenma and he nodded to Botan who flipped out her compact and quickly typed something in it. “I need you to get anything that will keep a body warm with chemicals and everything we use for Hyperthermia. Get three times the normal amount for humans with the chemicals.”
“Jesus that’s a lot of juice. How are they going to let me on a plane with all this shit?” I could hear her walking around, probably packing a bag.
“Just call me back when you have it all and your in a room alone.” I hung up the phone.
“So are you really are going to help?” Kurama asked.
“Yea but there isn’t much I can do. Human medicine will luckily keep him alive for a while. This is Shadow poison. It slows your body first starting with your blood then your organs. It’s a cold painful death that’s never been cured.” I sighed. “There is a cure we think will work. The only time it was used it came way too late but it brought the person out of a coma.”
“You were there, that’s why I called for you.” Koenma said proudly.
“That and any other demon would love to kill him.” I sighed. “Sadly I’d go to jail and my lord wouldn’t like that. You’d probably leave me at his door step with a note pinned to my shirt saying I got into trouble at school.”
“That would be worse than death!” Botan gasped. “Your master is so mean.” I smirked and looked at Yusuke, who wasn’t even pay attention.
“You two keep to much family business from your underlings.” I smirked at Koenma. “You might want to be careful I have two secrets.”
“Mitsu…” Koenma warned.
“There is one problem, I need juice from a very hard to get plant. That’s the only way to reverse the effects of the poison that we know of.” I sat down. “I could tell just by looking at him that he’s fighting it well for the first 24 hours.”
Suddenly a very soft girlish song came from the phone in my hand. “Who’s phone is this?” Kuwabara raised his hand. “You are so gay.” The room started to laugh as I picked it up.
“Kummy I have everything you need and I’m in one of the locked storage rooms. WHY am I in a room like this by the way?” Ivy sighed.
“Because your going on a trip, just hold on tightly to the bags you have a trust me that everything will be explained.” I looked at Botan. “Open it under her or she’ll never go in.”
“Open what under- AH!” Ivy screamed on the other side of the phone. I hung up and walked towards the door.
“I’ll go fetch her.” I jogged down the many stairs as quick as I could without tripping. When I got to the bottom, Ivy was sitting on the ground, looking around in shock, with medical bags around her. “Hey Ivy. Thanks for coming.”
“Wh-Wha…” Ivy looked up at me. “Where? H-How..”
“Welcome to Japan.”
