Chapter Two

“So let me get this straight.” Ivy was finally getting color back into her skin. We were sitting in the ‘patients’ room, both on either side of his bed, while I injected some medicine into him. I refuse to call him a real patient. He got into this from his own stupidity so he should be able to deal with it on his own. That‘s exactly how he thinks, so why not let him have his way? “You’re a demon, he’s a demon, and he’s been poisoned by a demon. And there are people in the other room who rule hell?”

“Its more like Spirit World, not hell.” I smirked. “You’re taking this better than I expected you too.” That’s what I liked about Ivy. You could hit her over the head, but as long as there was a logical reason for it, she didn’t mind. Not that she would be pleased with someone hitting her over the head.

“After falling threw the floor and ending up in Japan, I think I’ll believe anything. Also you always seemed to heal your patients sooner than anyone else.” Something seemed to click in her head. “So your like a healing demon?”

“Exactly.” I nodded. “I just wish we could get some Minimosa juice. But the only person I knew that could ever control that plant is dead.” I thought back to my old mentor and friend. I hope he stays dead. “Thank you for helping me.”

“Yea but I don’t know how else I can help but checking his vitals.” She sighed. “But I do understand that with two doctors you can keep watch over his vitals easier. We should get an EEG machine, some CPR and AEG’s in here along with something to monitor his vitals.” Damnit, I hadn’t thought of those. Can they even work on a demon. I smiled down at my new guine pig then back at Ivy. “I don’t like that look.”

“And an emergency life support. Your right. Botan!” I yelled and the blue haired girl entered quickly. “I’m sure you were listening in at the door so get all the things we said.” God, she can’t trust me can she?

Botan blushed then nodded. “Of course. Your room is on either side of this one. Your bags are in them.”

“Botan, don’t worry I’m not such a coward to kill someone when their hurt.” I smirked. “I can wait.”

“Are you two hungry?” Yukina showed up at the door with a tray in her hand, miso soup and rice pilled on it along with some sake.

“Oh yes please!” Ivy smiled and went to help her. “Thank you so much.”

“No, thank you for helping Hiei.” Yukina bowed once Ivy took the trey. “I cook every meal so if there’s anything special you need just ask.”

“Thank you. We’re going to stay in here until we get the vital machines.” I looked at Botan who quickly left. “If you could just bring us dinner when everyone else has some we’ll be fine.”

“Hey wait, you guys have access to all files of people dead and alive right?” Ivy asked.

“Koenma-sama does.” Yukina nodded.

“You said that the person you know that can control that plant is more than likely dead right? Well wouldn’t Koenma be able to find him or his children or something?” Ivy didn’t even ask for an answer. “Does Koenma know anything about Yoko Kurama?“ She mumbled the last part.

“Oh that’s Kurama. He’s Yoko’s reincarnation.” Yukina said. “I don’t know all the details but at the Dark Tournament we found out that he can pull Yoko out of him.”

“Isn’t that great?! Now we can…Kummy?”

My face paled out and I looked up. “This day just got so much worse… How could I not notice? I mean they called him Kurama. That is NOT a normal name…”

“I’ll go get Kurama.” Yukina left.

“No!” I yelled but she was already gone.

“What happened?” Ivy sat down and picked up the miso soup, passing me a bowl. “And don’t think about lying to me, I’ve only been your roomie for 5 years.”

“I lost a card game to him years ago… Many years ago.” I sighed, remembering that horrible night. “I barely got away with my life.”

“Your life or something else?” Ivy raised an eyebrow.

“You’re way to intuitive… Are you sure you don’t have empathic blood in you?” I sipped some of the soup. Kurama entered a moment later and bowed.

“Thank you for you help.” He said. “Yukina said you needed me?”

“Why does everyone keep thanking us? We haven’t helped him yet.” I rolled my eyes. It‘s not like I want to help him. “And yes. I have just been informed about your…other self.”

“Why not just say his name again?” Ivy asked. “Afraid he might remember you?”

I hissed at Ivy then looked at Kurama. “Look, Yoko can control a Minimosa plant, correct?” Kurama nodded. “I need its hallucinating juice.”

“But its poison!” Kurama’s face was a bit in shock.

“Yes but when its heavily diluted and you add ginger, rosemary, and some other things, it becomes a remedy for anything and everything. Its very powerful.” I said.

“I’ll be back.” kurama nodded and took the vial I held out to him.

“That would be amazing if we could give it to cancer patients. Do you think it would work?” Ivy asked. “Like kids with Lukimeia.”

“I wouldn’t know.” I shrugged. “I don’t care much for humans and demons don’t get cancer. Plus how would I explain that a poison saved someone’s kid?”

“I just thought it might be useful that’s all..” Ivy placed her bowl down. I looked at her oddly but she just placed a smile on her face.

‘I’ll deal with one sick person first.’ I thought to myself and eyed her carefully. I had noticed when I moved in with her those years ago that she was sicker than most, but I didn’t think she had any disease.

I looked down at Hiei and sighed. I couldn’t believe how long it had been since I had seen him. And the last time I had…well it hadn’t been that great. I thought back on times we had shared together when Kumaro went out scouting or visiting old friends. We where never close but we seemed to have an understanding. Soon we had found out things about each other. He found out I came from demon aristocrats and I had found out about his sister. Other than that, everything else was pretty much simple.

“What are you reminiscing about?” Ivy asked.

“How’d you know I was thinking about the past?”

“You were chewing your bottom lip.” Ivy smiled. “So, what were you thinking about? Hiei?”

“Yea..” I shrugged. “We use to be.. I don’t know. It wasn’t really ever comfortable, or awkward. It just was. I’d crack a joke and he’d ignore it. That’s how it usually was between us. I was thinking about the first conversation we really ever had.”

“Oh do tell.”

“It was a few weeks since he joined me and Kumaro…” I gasped a little. I actually said his name. “Uhm… I hadn’t seen him talk yet really but him and Kumaro seemed to always communicate. I had gotten fed up with him not saying anything to me so I confronted him.” I smiled. “Kumaro had gone to find food and I was trying to lit fire. He just sat by, with that annoying little smirk…”

“You’re just going to sit there…” I glared over my shoulder. “And you’re not even going to talk.” I looked back

“You are kind of stupid.” Ivy said and I shot her a glare, which only made her laugh. “I’m kidding, you’re the smartest person in our classes. Hey, what about our school classes anyway?”

“Well I don’t know how long we’ll be here, but we can get them online. If our teachers want us in a class we can probably sit in on a college near here.”

“I can’t speak Japanese.”

“Koenma probably has some device to help with that.” I shrugged. “And if we’re here for too long, we might as well transfer.”

“Oh can we transfer anyways? I’d love to go to school in Japan.”

“I’ll think about it…” We sat in silence, eating, until there was a knock on the door. “Enter at your own risk.” When the person entered I groaned. “Or mine.”

“Is it just me, or do I smell a long lost friend of mine.” Yoko had his body poised in a relaxed way, one arm propped up on the door frame, holding a vial of green liquid in his hand. “Kumiko, you look a lot different.”

“Yoko, you look alive.” I hunched a bit, pulling my body in closer to itself. “May I?” I held my hand out for the vial.

“Depends.” Yoko walked into the room, standing next to me. “There’s something you still owe me.”

“I owe you nothing. You cheat.” I stood and jumped over Hiei, standing next to Ivy. “The vial please, or your friend might die.”

“Alright, fair trade.” Yoko passed the vial to her and looked down at Hiei. “How did he get hurt?”

“Weren’t you watching through Suichi’s eyes?” I rolled my eyes and started to look threw the things Ivy brought. “Ivy, I think I’m going to have to make a trip to the store…”

“Why don’t I do it?” She stood. “I’m sure Yukina would help me. Plus I can’t really do much for him right now. You’d surely be safer.”

“But-”

“Bye Kummy.” Ivy waved and walked out the room.

“I think she’s the devil incarnate.” I sighed then looked at Yoko. He was looking at me sadly and I knew why. I ignored him and started to go through the bag I had brought. I pulled out a few medicinal herbs and a bowl and preceded to ignore Yoko.
