Episode 8:
An Invincible Power:
Unity of the Corrupted Souls

The demon laughed. Yugure blinked trying to force the tears from her eyes but it was no use; they still came and were like Twin Rivers down her cheeks. The demons released her dead siblings allowing them to fall through the barriers and to the ground, without a single noise from their throats. Just two soft thuds and the sound of rising dust accompanied their connect with the floor and they lay motionless.

The dark demoness forced herself to her hands and knees as best she could coughing up some dark blood. The droplets, Hiei noticed now that her black fog had cleared, were coal black. Even though the room was dark Hiei knew her to be far more abnormal than he even thought possible. He, himself, could feel her dark blood running ice-cold, and coursing through her veins, an unending stream of hatred flooding through and overwhelming each of her veins and arteries. She felt as if she might burst from the painful strain on her inner mechanisms.

She gasped in pain and rose as best she could to her feet wobbling and nearly falling several times. She walked slowly to them, her feet dragging and scraping across the floor and her sandals, she left far behind. Her eyes were distant and sad, still streaming an endless ocean of tears, her teeth locked tight together as if she feared any words that might escape. She did not dare to believe the sight that stared her down and poisoned her eye. They grew dark and fell into the shadow of the three locks of hair that hung over her face.

She growled and slowly a purple gleam came from beneath the bandana she wore around her forehead. “It can't be…” Hiei mumbled

“What is it?” Kuwabara said, nearly whispering.

“It looks like… but it can't be!” Hiei was in shock. He thought the bandana was simply there to symbolize her combat expertise, like in martial arts, but apparently it served far more important and intriguing means.

“Well, what is it?” Kuwabara voice had risen to nearly a faint yell

Hiei turned, his eyes filled with anger, and fear “It seems to be… the Jagan!”

“But I thought you had the Jagan!” The Baka replied, stupidly.

“I do!” Hiei said, his voice now frantic as he turned back to the scene of terror unfolding before them “I, too, believed myself to be the only one to possess it, however she seems to also hold a power similar, though greater than my own.”

“It's stronger than your Jagan?”

Hiei nodded clenching his fists and teeth tightly. “It alone could destroy us, and aside from the power she possesses with her third eye, the power of her crystal is greater than her Jagan… nearly a hundred fold.”

“She's stronger than an S-class apparition, just as she is. Without her crystal.” Kurama added, his voice as well filled with uncertainty and fear as the woman's Chi began to grow in power, and shrink in control. “And it seems as though she is beginning to lose control of her powers. Her senses have left her to be replaced by raw unbridled emotion…”

Yugure knelt beside the siblings' limp forms, taking Yoake in her arms. She was bloodied and a great scar cut across her throat. Yugure saw this and her forehead immediately collided with the younger one's blood-covered chest. Her shoulders began shaking uncontrollably as her grip around Yoake tightened, and several gasps and slight whimpers accompanied her shivering.

“I'm… so sorry.” Yugure managed to mumble. Hiei watched as her hands began to glow a corrosive and threatening darkness. “I have… failed you, yet again… I'm the worst…” She trailed away as she lifted herself from Yoake's body allowing her to fall and lay motionless on the floor once again. She turned to Homunaku, her eyes still covered by the darkness of her hair. “Give it back…” Her voice was left emotionless now. Her heart had seemingly frozen completely and her tears were gone. “It belongs to me” Hiei wasn't sure if he had heard that voice correctly… It was Yugure's voice, but beneath hers, whispering the Maiden's words in sync with hers, seemingly from far, far away was a deep dark and evil tone. A cold-blooded monster called silently and coldly from behind. The voice seemed to be male.

“Wow… that's freaky…” Kuwabara said quietly

“Shut up!” Yusuke retorted, annoyed.

Kurama seemed to be in thought before saying, “… I think we should try to at least help Yoake and Churitsu…”

“Maybe… but what can we do? We can't even get past the barrier, much less help a couple of rotting corpses,” Hiei said, rather coldly.

“Maybe there's a way we can get past this barrier.” Kurama said ignoring Hiei's heartless comment. He squinted his eyes a bit as if searching for a fault in the barrier, but to no use. He could see nothing, but something told him that the barrier was weakening as Yugure's transformation began.

Everyone looked up to see as the Demoness's power grew to an even greater level than before. The floor of the tower shook once then after a moment of silence Yugure's cries made the ground rumble fury. Homunaku looked fearful and in an attempt to save himself he clenched the crystal tightly and held it above his head, chanting something under his breathe, as if calling to the powers inside.

Yugure didn't seem to notice Homunaku attempting to call the powers of the crystal or perhaps she simply did not care. The aura surrounding her became darker and a cloud of haze drifted from her body towards the other demon, almost as if reaching for him. The eye on the girl's forehead burst with its purple light and mixed with the black haze the girl's body produced to create a dark glowing purple haze whose fingers reached for Homunaku and used a spark of dark fire to blow the demon from the crystal. He crashed into the throne just a few feet behind and groaned, unable to move. The dark fingers grasped the crystal tightly. Yugure took a staggered step forward and her motion was greeted immediately by the returning of the crystal and of the power to her chest. The crystal buried itself deep within her to rest where it had been before and as soon as it reached its destination a delayed explosion of sound and dark aura erupted from Yugure's body. A ring of darkness shot out from her as fast as a bullet and ended with a flash of energy at the edge of Homunaku's barrier. The barrier seemed to become distorted, as the surface seemed almost like water for a brief second before returning to normal.

“We could pass this barrier, though I doubt it would bode well for us.” Kurama said with a worried tone, stepping slowly away from the barrier. “She's lost all control over her spirit as well as her body.” The others understood and copied Kurama's actions by stepping away from the barrier as well.

Yugure let out a low scream as a second and third voice echoed the cry and strips of a dark foreboding and ancient power sprang from her feet and circled her body, encompassing her into a glowing orb of darkness. The girl collapsed to her hands and knees balling her hands into fists to slam several times into the ground. Her aura intensified as the crystal within her screamed with frightening power and Yugure began to transform. Yusuke and the others watched with horror freezing all movement as Yugure's body slowly grew, her legs lengthening as well as her arms and midsection. Her hair shortened then flew into spikes and two horns grew from beneath her flowing hair and twisted crudely around to come and remain just above her eyes. Yugure's skin became a dark purple and her fangs and claws grew, sharpening and glinting in what remained of the light in the room. Black, feathered wings extended from her back.

The demoness stood slowly and silently. The aura around her remained. Yugure's head looked to the sky abruptly, a dark menacing glare contorted her features and her black eyes gave her expressions an even more frightening appearance. The demons above her immediately looked fearful. She clenched her fists tightly and after a moment of snickering at the demon's fearful expressions she gave a cry as more power encompassed her and her body began to change again. Her dark wings allowed her to fly at great speed toward the demons. As she flew her body became very long, stretching to nearly 50 feet in length. And her features distorted, taking the shape of a long serpent composed entirely of black flames. Even the fangs became coal black fire and the dragon flew through each of the demons' barriers and their barriers disappeared as the demons, themselves become mere ash, disintegrating from Yugure's touch. The dragon's body twisted as it came to a stop in midair and it turned to fly at Homunaku's limp form.

As the team watched this terror, a bright light came from the forms of the demoness's siblings. They each turned to watch as a translucent, glowing white form lifted itself from Yoake's body. It was a kind and yet powerful looking woman. She stepped away from Yoake and turned to kneel beside the young girl. The woman took Yoake in her arms and lifted her from the ground, as if the translucent figure was solid. The woman then began to speak to the body of the young girl.

“We must go, and stop Yugure, again, my child.” The woman's soft voice almost sung in the girl's ear. “I cannot stop this evil alone, this time, my child” there was a pause as the women seemed to wait for an answer. And as though she had received her answer she said softly “I shall not harm your dear sister” there was another pause “I appreciate your kindness, my child…” The woman then suddenly seemed to melt back into Yoake's body and a bright searing light came from Yoake's chest. The girls body began to levitate slowly above the ground glowing brightly almost totally eliminating the darkness in the room, except Yugure's, which was unaffected. Yoake's body turned to stand, with her back turned to Yusuke. Her wounds had disappeared and her eyelids lifted. The girl starred with no fear at Yugure's dragon form.

There came an explosion of fire upon Yugure's reaching Homunaku and she wreathed to turn toward Yusuke and the others as Homunaku and his barrier disintegrated. Steam flowed from the dragon's jaws as her eyes mirrored an uncontrollable soul. Yugure rushed toward them ignoring Yoake completely but Yoake raced to stand between Yugure and the others creating a great shield of light. She screamed and her own body seemed to change to that of the woman that had appeared before. Her features became Yoake's and white-feathered wings sprang from her back. The black dragon collided with Yoake's barrier and was repelled without effort at all but instead of flying back as the dragon should have it disappeared and Yugure returned to her own form, her clothes and swords as they had been before the horror began. Yugure's eyes were pure white as she fell to her knees, defeated, a look of despair cut across her features. Yoake relinquished her barrier and rushed to catch Yugure as she fell forward. Yoake allowed the woman's head to rest peacefully on her shoulder.

Yoake spoke soothingly into Yugure's ear. “I'm sorry, Onesan. Your protecting me and Churitsu causes you so much pain… forgive us…” And both women relaxed. “could one of you carry Churitsu…?” the girl said, quietly to others.
