Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Healing Touch ❯ A new surprise! ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho though I would love to. I only own my character Rika. Please review so I know what everybody likes and what they don't. My story starts in the middle of the TV show, after Yusuke and the gang have rescued Yukina and just before Toguro shows up to challenge Yusuke to go to the Dark Tournament.
It was extremely late when Kuwabara, Hiei and Kurama walked into Koenma's office. The toddler hadn't given them a reason for the unexpected summons, and Kuwabara was extremely unhappy that his sleep had been disturbed.
“Stupid Koenma…calls us in the middle of the night. Why couldn't this wait until morning?” he grumbled
“Because it's quite urgent” Koenma told him, swiveling around in his desk chair. He decided to ignore the angry glare Kuwabara was sending his way. “Please sit. Where is Yusuke?” he asked.
“We assumed he was already here” Kurama said.
Koenma shook his head in disgust. His spirit detective had absolutely no respect for his orders. “I don't have time to waste waiting for him. “ He pointed to the television screen and a picture of a teenage girl with long black hair and large brown eyes appeared on the screen. “I have received several reports that a high class demon has been scouring the human world for this girl. Why he wants her or who she is, I don't know. I don't even know the name of the demon who wants her”
Kuwabara looked away from the screen and avoided looking at any of the others. He couldn't let them know what he knew.
Hiei shrugged. “Why should we concern ourselves with this human girl?”
“Because Hiei, the demon who wants her has developed quite a reputation. He's stolen several powerful artifacts from all over the Makai, and has been drawing demons into his ranks. What he wants, I am not sure, but I do know that any demon with so many followers is a threat. And I wish to stop this threat before it becomes serious. Call it a preemptive strike. ” Koenma pressed a button on his phone, which would summon his assistant to his office. He wanted to find out where Yusuke was and why he wasn't here.
“So what are we supposed to do about it?” Kuwabara complained.
“You're going to find this girl and bring her to me for questioning.” He replied.
“It will be quite difficult if not impossible to find one girl in all of human world without the slightest clue of who she is” Kurama pointed out.
Koenma smiled. “You're in luck. This powerful demon has his minions scouring your hometown looking for her. I think it's safe to assume that's where she is located”.
Kuwabara laughed. “Well you know Koenma what they say about assuming.” He laughed loudly, and Koenma rolled his eyes. Kuwabara hoped Urameshi could deal with surprises, because he was about to get a real big one.
“Well that narrows the search considerably. We will find this girl as quickly as possible” Kurama stood and nodded to Koenma, and left with Kuwabara and Hiei.
Koenma's assistant came in. “Yes Koenma sir?”
“Find Yusuke. I want to speak with him immediately.” His assistant nodded and left. This was no time for his spirit detective to go AWOL.
** The next morning
Rika walked down the street, heading for the candy shop. It had been over two weeks since she'd seen Yusuke and she had missed him very much. She blew her long black hair out of her face as the wind began to rush about her. She definitely needed a haircut. Rika blended into the crowd easily with her long purple skirt and white peasant shirt with long sleeves that left her shoulders bare. She loved to feel the warmth of the sun on her skin and the cool breeze in her hair. She finally reached the store and walked in, and instantly saw her cousin. He was gazing at a row of chocolates, with his back turned to her. Rika crept up behind him and jumped onto his back.
“Hello cousin dear!!!!” she shouted, laughing when he yelled in surprise. Yusuke dislodged her from his back and hugged her.
“Shrimp” he said playfully, referring to the fact that she was a good three inches shorter than him.
Rika punched him in the arm. “Bully. I missed you so much. I'm never going to Kyoto again. I hated that stupid class trip.”
“I bet you did.” Yusuke pulled away to look at his little cousin. He'd always called her that, even though they'd been born on the same day, a half hour apart. But he'd been born first, a fact that he'd always used to rib her.
“Let's get some candy. I've got a sweet tooth today.” Yusuke bought a bag of chocolates and Rika got a bag of jelly beans, her favorite. They walked in the park, munching and talking. Rika told him of her trip to Kyoto and Yusuke told her of his latest exploits with the gang. “I can't believe Hiei said that to Kuma-chan!!” Rika exclaimed, using her nickname for their longtime friend Kuwabara. “I wonder what your friends would think if you told them that I knew everything about your adventures.” Rika told him.
“You're basically my sister Rika. Why would I keep anything from you?” he asked.
“You tried to keep it from Keiko” Rika pointed out with a sly smile.
Yusuke shrugged, looking uncomfortable. “That's different” he mumbled.
Rika laughed. “Don't try to hide it from me. I know how much you care for Keiko, and you tried to hide the truth about you and Spirit world to protect her.”
“It's not just that. Keiko doesn't have powers like you. I figured you would take the news better than her.”
Rika laughed. He was right. She'd had incredible healing powers for as long as she could remember. Every time Yusuke got into a fight with Kuwabara, she'd always been the one to heal the both of them. When her aunt was plagued with headaches due to her constant drinking, Rika healed her. The only time she'd been unable to heal anyone was when Yusuke has died. She'd fallen apart when her aunt had told her, and she'd rushed to his side to heal her cousin. But she couldn't, because Rika's powers wouldn't work on the dead.
Yusuke noticed how gloomy Rika's eyes had become and shook her playfully. “Hey, where'd the smile go?”
Rika smiled, pushing away her melancholy thoughts. “It's right here stupid. Anyway, when are you actually going to introduce me to these infamous friends of yours?” she wanted to know.
Yusuke shrugged. “I think they'd flip out if they knew that you knew. Well, not Kuwabara, but Hiei and Kurama would definitely.”
“That is such a cop out. But whatever.” Rika handed Yusuke her bag of jellybeans that now only held green jellybeans, the only kind of jellybeans he would eat. “ Sooner or later you'll have to introduce me to them”.
Yusuke munched on his green jellybeans, hoping that the day Rika was talking about didn't come for a long time.
*** That afternoon at Yusuke's apartment
Yusuke walked into his apartment, surprised to find the lights on. There was no way his mother was awake at this time of day. Then he saw the reason why the lights were on. Three reasons in fact, and they were all in his living room.
“You're late Urameshi. Where the hell have you been?” Kuwabara demanded from the couch.
“Why the hell are you in my apartment?” Yusuke asked him, throwing his bag onto the chair.
“You missed the meeting Yusuke. Koenma has a new assignment for us.” Kurama told him as Yusuke walked over to the fridge and grabbed a can of soda. He tossed one at Kurama, who caught it and smiled his thank you. Yusuke tossed another at Kuwabara but didn't bother giving Hiei one. He never drank human stuff.
“Another assignment, why am I not surprised? So who are we killing this time?”
“We're not killing anyone Detective. We're retrieving someone.” Hiei said scornfully.
Kurama pulled a small photo out of his pocket and handed it to Yusuke. Yusuke froze as he saw Rika's eyes staring back at him. “Why does Koenma want her?”
Kurama looked at Yusuke and noted that he'd gone very pale. An interesting turn of events. Apparently Yusuke knew the girl. Kurama glanced at Hiei, and saw that the fire demon had noticed it too. Kuwabara was unsurprisingly unaware of the situation. “A high level demon is searching for her. We don't know why but Koenma wants us to retrieve her in order to find out.”
“What's her name Detective?” Hiei asked.
“I'm not even going to ask how you know that I know her. I'm gonna call her.” Yusuke took out his cell phone and started to Rika's number.
“It's Tuesday Urameshi, her phone is turned off.” Kuwabara pointed out.
Yusuke closed his phone with a sigh of disgust. “Shit you're right. “
Kurama looked at him surprised. “You know her as well Kuwabara? Why didn't you say anything in Koenma's office?”
Kuwabara smiled sheepishly. “Sorry about that but when you grow up with someone the instinct to protect them comes before anything else. Even being a spirit detective. “
Kuwabara smiled sheepishly. “Sorry about that but when you grow up with someone the instinct to protect them comes before anything else. Even being a spirit detective. “
“Who is this girl and why are both of you keen to protect her?” Hiei wanted to know, extremely annoyed that he didn't notice the red haired idiot was hiding something.
“Her name is Rika. Me and Urameshi have been going to the same school since we were in diapers” Kuwabara told them.
“It's imperative that we find her. Where is she?” Kurama asked. There was something else that Yusuke and Kuwabara were leaving out, he could feel it.
“ Only one place she could be on a Tuesday where she'd have to turn her phone off.” Yusuke grabbed his coat from the couch. “ Let's go”.
