Insert You: Guardian Angel, or Demon?
Chapter One: Horrible Events and Kenji's Only Four
RING! RING! RING! RING!
You opened your eyes and groaned. Damn alarm clock. You smashed your fist onto it but it wouldn't shut off. Sitting up you took the alarm clock into your hands and got out of bed and headed towards your window. Opening the window, you pitched the alarm clock into a tree and from there is smashed into tiny little pieces. You glared at the tiny pieces before slamming your window shut. Suddenly you heard footsteps coming towards your door and it slammed open.
"(YOUR NAME) WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO?" Your mother shouted at you. You looked out the window and shrugged.
"I hate alarm clocks. They wake me up." You said, heading back towards your bed. Your mother glared out the window and towards you.
"DON'T DO IT AGAIN! YOU COULD HAVE WAKEN SOMEBODY UP! BESIDES ME!"
"Tell the alarm clock not to wake ME up then." You grumbled and prepared to get back into bed.
"Oh no you don't! Stay out of bed and get ready for school!" Your mother said in her usual warning tone before turning on her heel and heading back to her own room but not before slamming your door. You rolled your eyes but did stay out of bed. You put on a pair of black jeans with a red dragon winding up each of your legs, both of them stopping of at your hip. You shirt was a red sleeveless with a black rose on the front of your shirt and you wrapped a black red hooded-sweatshirt (I call them hoodies) around your waist. You put your hair up in a ponytail (unless it's too short to put in a ponytail then just leave it down). You put on your ankle-socks and sneakers and put on your make-up (however you like to wear it…if you don't like make-up then forget about it) before heading downstairs and grabbing a piece of toast.
"Hey Onee-chan!" Your little brother, Kenji, ran up to you and hugged your leg. You smiled down and ruffled his black hair, which he gave a shout of protest to. You giggled slightly and finished eating your toast. "Are you going to school?" Kenji asked you.
"Yeah." You said, and you noticed your little brother looked sad. "What's wrong?"
"I don't want you to go to school. I'll miss you too much…" Kenji sniffed and you bent down to his height. "Please don't go." You hugged your little brother. He was so cute! It really helped that he was only four years old too.
"Don't worry, I'll be back at 4:00." You said and Kenji brightened.
"That's soon, right?" You nodded and he gave a little cheer before hugging you and running towards your mother.
"MOMMY, MOMMY! ONEE-CHAN SAYS SHE'LL BE HOME AT FOUR!" He shouted excitedly. You left the house after grabbing your bag. Shaking your head you started to head down towards school.
"(Your name)-chan!" You heard a call and whirled around to see your best friend, (best friends name). You started chatting on the way to school.
"You ready for that match exam?" You asked your best friend and she shuddered.
"Yeah…but exams suck." You nodded in agreement. Math wasn't your best subject either…shrugging you approached the double doors that was your school entrance.
"Well…here we go." You muttered and entered the school and heading towards your locker. Shoving your bag in it you got the necessary books for your first class and slammed the locker door shut. Nearby students and teachers glared at you for the little slam, but then again that was the whole reason you slammed it! It irks everybody!
Today was possibly the most boring day of your life! All of the teachers droned on and the math exam was moderate, not too easy so you got excited that you knew it like the back of your hand but not too hard where you worried yourself to bits. It was just an exam. You were relieved when school was over. Your best friend had gone home sick and so you were walking home…alone.
Sighing to yourself, you noticed somebody running towards you. That somebody was…your brother. "ONEE-CHAN! ONEE-CHAN!" Your little brother started screaming and sobbing at the same time. You ran up to Kenji and hugged him, trying to calm him down. "Somebody came to the house…and he was looking for me and you, and he hurt Okaa-San and Otou-San!" Your eyes widened at what he said.
"N-nani?" You stuttered, looking at Kenji straight in his green eyes.
"They hurt them!" Kenji started bawling and you picked up your three-year-old little brother. You picked up Kenji and told him you were going to give him a piggyback ride, which he immediately smiled and did so. As soon as you got a firm grip on your little brother you started to run towards your house.
`What is going on?' You thought, worried in your mind. "Who did you say this guy was?" You asked Kenji.
"He was just some tall man." You frowned. Great, no names. "He said he was looking for you and me." Your eyes narrowed. Why was he looking for you and your little brother? "I was hiding upstairs…that's how I heard it all…" Kenji was sniffling. "Okaa-san immediately tried to get him out of the house, and…" He trailed up, eyes swelling with tears again. "He took out this big thing and there was a loud boom sound…and Okaa-san was on the floor with red stuff all around her, and she didn't move. Otou-san went downstairs and the same thing happened to him." You quickened your pace, but were scared of what you would find.
`Okaa-san and Otou-san…were…killed?' You thought. `Oh no…' You got a tighter grip on your brother. "Kenji, hold on tight." He nodded and you made sure he was secure before you bolted the rest of the way. `You ran straight to the door and barged through it, Kenji still on your back. You immediately saw your mother on the kitchen floor…drenched in blood. You backed up, hoping your brother hadn't seen that. As soon as you were outside, you looked back at your brother. "Please hide in the bushes…" You said, and he nodded, jumping off of your back and you made sure he was completely hidden before reentering the house. You cautiously walked over to your mother and bent down. Tears stinging your eyes, you picked up her wrist and felt her pulse.
Nothing.
You let the tears flow freely down your face. You noticed the locket your mom always wore, and took it as a keepsake. You looked away and slowly stood up. Walking up to your father…you bent down and did the same to his wrist.
Again there was no pulse. You looked outside the window to make sure Kenji was still safe; he was your only family now. Seeing nothing unusual, you made your way upstairs with your book-bag and headed into Kenji's room. You grabbed his own book-bag that he had gotten after much begging so he could be like you, except that he had spider-man on his bag. You opened his drawers and fit a few clothes into the bag, his toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, his teddy-bear that mom had given him when he was born, and you stuffed a blanket in the bag. You made sure you didn't forget anything and went into your room. Like before, you put a few of your outfits into the bag, your toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, a few hair ties, your old teddy-bear your mom had given you when you were born, and a blanket. Sighing, you noticed both you and Kenji still had room in your bags, even after all of the things you put in it. You went back into Kenji's room and grabbed a few storybooks for you to read to him and hopefully teach him how to read. Then, you went into your parent's room.
Looking around, you grabbed a few keepsakes, mostly just pictures of your parents and a few of you and Kenji. You opened a few drawers and found your mom's art book. She was always a good drawer. Biting your lip, you slowly took it and put it in your bag. You grabbed three empty lockets for you and Kenji. Leaving the rest of the room the way it was, you left. Going back downstairs you took one final look at your parents and grabbed you jackets for you and your brother before heading outside, tears still streaming down your cheeks. "Onee-chan…what's wrong?" Kenji exited the bush and grabbed your hand. You looked at Kenji and smiled. He was so cute…and innocent. Why did this have to happen to him of all little brothers?
`He's only four!' you thought angrily towards the person who had killed your parents. `He shouldn't be allowed to see violence, or lose his parents! It's just wrong!' Tears started pouring down your face and you hugged your little brother tightly, but not tight enough to where you cut off his blood pressure or stopped his breathing. Sensing you were upset, Kenji hugged you back.
"What's wrong?" Kenji asked again while hugging you. You kept on hugging him, thinking of how both of their lives would change.
"Everything." You bit your lip and let more tears fall. Kenji didn't really understand what was going on…and you were almost glad for that. Key word: almost. Eventually he would find out…
"Where are Okaa-san and Otou-san?" Kenji asked and you stiffened for a sec.
"They are…gone." Kenji looked at you, confusion in his eyes.
"Are they on vacation?" Kenji asked you smiled sadly.
"Yeah…they're on vacation." You stopped there, thinking the last part to yourself. `A vacation to heaven, with no way back.' You remembered what you mom always told you about angels. They, especially Guardian Angels, always fascinated you. `I wish mom was here to tell me another story.' You thought sadly. Looking down at the ground, you stood back up and grabbed Kenji's hand. "Mom said we could go camping for as long we want. Want to head off to the park?" Kenji nodded his head, cheering up instantly.
"Cool! Let's go sleep in the park!" Kenji chirped and started to jump and down excitedly. You started to walk with him holding your hand. The park was a few miles away…it could take a while to get there.
About half-way there you noticed your brother was getting tired of asking questions and saying how cool it was going to be to sleep in the park. He also looked a little drowsy. Stopping, you took your bag off and smiled at your brother. "Do you want another piggy-back ride?" Kenji yawned and nodded. You let him climb on your back and you continued walking with your bag in your right hand while both arms were making sure that Kenji stayed on your back.
`Poor kid.' You thought sadly. `He really is too young to understand what's going on.' Your tears had been used up a while ago, and your brother had eventually got tired of asking why you were crying.
After a while, you reached the park. Your back was starting to ache because you could only hold your brother for so long and your arms were getting stiff from staying in one position the whole time. Your brother was asleep now. Sighing to yourself, you walked to the heart of the park, which was surrounded by trees but also had a nearby lake in case you or your brother got thirsty. Then you remembered…
You forgot to bring food and drinks. Mentally abusing yourself for your stupidity you quietly laid your brother against a tree and got out his blanket. Even with the warmth the blanket provided, Kenji still managed to be cold. Sighing, you took out your own blanket and put it over him. You were not going to let him freeze to death. After making sure the blankets wouldn't blow away and expose your brother to the wind, you went to your bag and pulled out the three lockets and a picture of your parents and two pictures of you and two pictures of Kenji. After doing what you planned to do with those items, you climbed the tree he was sleeping by and came to a branch mid-way up the tree that you made sure could support your way through the night before actually sitting on it. You leaned back against the cool bark and shivered slightly. You looked down and frowned.
"I almost forgot I brought a hoodie." You mumbled and straddled the branch securely, untying the arms of the hoodie and slipping it on. You brought the hood up, though you usually didn't like it, for more of a cushion against the cold, hard, uneven bark. You were going to have to get used to it eventually. So would Kenji.
Thinking of your brother, you fell asleep.
