Insert You: Guardian Angel, or Demon?

Chapter Two: Telling and Giving Up What is Precious

"Onee-chan? What are you doing on the branch? How come I'm wearing your blanket? Aren't you going to catch a cold?" Your little brother asked and you woke up to his voice. You opened your eyes and wondered where you were for a moment but soon grasped what had happened yesterday. You looked down at Kenji and smiled.

"I'm fine, Kenji." You smiled and stretched in the tree. You were as stiff as a board from sleeping in it. Groaning, you climbed down the tree, slightly tripping on the last one but not thinking too much about it. You heard a growl and jumped. "Kenji, did you hear that?" You asked, your heart pounding. You looked at Kenji and he nodded, grinning like he was embarrassed.

"Yup! That was my tummy! It makes weird noises sometimes. Usually Okaa-san gives me something to eat when it happens." You sighed and looked away. You couldn't go back to the house now. The police would be swarming the house, and you didn't want to end up in an orphanage or a foster home. Though…it might be better for Kenji. Your eyes were downcast.

"Kenji…I have to tell you something." You couldn't wait until later. He had to have a better life then this…and he needed to know the truth. Kenji looked up at you inquiringly and you sat down, leaning against the tree and motioned for Kenji to sit next to you. "Okaa-san and Otou-san…they aren't coming back." Kenji looked confused.

"What do you mean, Onee-chan?" Kenji asked, confused. You bit your lip, trying to keep the tears from pouring out of your eyes. You had to be strong…for Kenji.

"Do you remember how I said that our parents were on a vacation?" You had tears in your eyes, but you wouldn't allow them to fall down. Kenji nodded.

"I bet they're having fun!" Kenji said eagerly and you waited a second before nodding.

"Do you remember what mom used to tell us about angels?" Kenji nodded and you couldn't look at him anymore. This was going to be hard…but…there was a way to make this a little bit easier.

"Yeah. I liked where she told us about guardian angels. Now I don't get scared from nightmares as much as I used to!" Kenji said proudly. You smiled weakly at his voice.

"Do you remember what she said about Heaven? Where all of the angels lived?"

"Yeah." He said eagerly.

"Well…Otou-san and Okaa-san are in heaven now. They can't come back." You said and you hated yourself for it. More importantly, you felt a burning hate for the guy who had killed your parents, even if you didn't know who he was.

"Are they angels?" Kenji asked, excitedly. You bit your lip. He was too young for his parents to be angels. He was too innocent and sweet and he should never have to go through this. "(Your name), are our parents angels?" His voice was even more excited.

"Yes. Our parents are angels." Tears finally crept their way down your cheeks.

"Are they our guardian angels?" You frowned. Could you really tell him that? Would it be true? Looking at Kenji, your frown actually did turn upside-down at his hopeful expression. Even if it weren't true…he would get by easier if his actual parents were his guardian angels.

"Yes they are, and they're the strongest Guardian angels ever." You tweaked his nose and he grumbled. He hated it when you did that, just as much as he hated it when you ruffled his hair or teased him for getting scared during a movie. You remembered how happy you were when you were around Kenji and you looked away, knowing you were about to lose it forever. Sighing, you looked straight ahead of you, trying your hardest not to look at Kenji.

"Onee-chan…what's wrong?" Kenji asked for what seemed the millionth time in twenty-four hours…and yet…you were going to miss it. Still not looking at him, you spoke with a cracked voice.

"You need a home, Kenji. You need to find the police and they'll put you in an adoptive home. You'll have a new mom and dad, and maybe even a new older sister, or a younger sister. Maybe you'll even have more than one brother or sister." Kenji looked sad.

"I wanna stay with you, (Your name)." Your little brother hugged you, and you still wouldn't look at him. "You are my favorite Onee-chan." You smiled, sadly. You really liked that he called you his favorite sister. It was comforting to know he loved you just as much as you loved him.

"Kenji, I will always be your sister. Think of it this way…" Your voice was having a hard time escaping your throat. "You'll have a bigger family and you can tell them stories and make them happy."

"Really? I can tell them stories? I can make them happy?" Kenji asked.

"Yes. You can make them happy. You've made me happy." You were so close to sobbing. "Don't you want to make people happy?" You asked, finally turning around to face him. He looked so eager…he didn't truly comprehend what you were saying.

"I want to make everybody happy Onee-chan!" He said. "I'll go. Will you come too?"

"No." You said. "Here, I made these last night." You dug into the pocket that took up the space in front of your hoodie and pulled out the two lockets that occupied the inside of the pocket. "Kenji, these are for you, so you'll always remember your first family." You said, opening them both. In the first locket were mom and dad; while in the second locket were you and Kenji. You were clad that those lockets were circular instead of heart-shaped otherwise your brother probably wouldn't take them.

"I can keep them?" Kenji asked and you nodded.

"Of course. I made them for you." You smiled encouragingly. "Please don't lose them." You begged as you clipped them around his neck. He nodded.

"Why would I lose them?" He asked and you looked away.

`You might forget…' You thought but kept it to yourself. "I'm just being a worry-wart." You said. "Lets get you ready to go to your new home, so you can make your new family happy." He jumped up and you started packing. You put both blankets into his bag and realized you hadn't unpacked anything else. You started to head towards home, and as soon as you reached the edge of the park, you grabbed Kenji's shoulder. He turned around with a confused look on his face.

"Kenji, tell them I'm an angel." Your voice cracked.

"Why?"

"I don't want them to find me. Don't tell them anything except that I'm an angel. You can tell them what happened to Okaa-san and Otou-san, including that they are angels, but please only say that about me."

"You're going to be an angel?" Kenji asked and you stiffened a second, feeling bad for making your brother lie.

"Yes. I'm going to be an angel. Please don't tell them I'm alive." He nodded in understanding. No matter how innocent he was, you could tell he was going to say exactly what you told him to say about you. "Do you remember the way to the house?" Kenji nodded.

"You used to take me there from the park a lot. I remember." You bit your lip.

"Please, go on without me. I'll be watching over you." Kenji looked confused but nodded anyway. You grabbed him in a hug, the last one you would ever give him. "Please, remember me always." Kenji hugged you back.

"Don't worry, Onee-chan. I'll always remember you." He said and you hugged him tighter, knowing that when you let go…he would leave. After a few minutes, you let go and studied his features for a few minutes. His black hair was sort of tangled and a few bangs fell across his face while his green eyes shone with life and determination, and love for you, his Onee-chan. You memorized every single feature on him, from what he was wearing to where every hair strand was placed to his jaw-line.

"You can go now. Make somebody happy." You said and Kenji smiled.

"I'll do it for you, Onee-chan!" He said and you turned him around.

"Go home." You said and he started walking. "Don't look back Kenji!" You called after him and you saw him stop for a second.

"All right, Onee-chan!" You heard Kenji call. You watched him till his form disappeared from view.

"Make somebody happy, Kenji. Make somebody happy, and don't look back." You murmured. "Don't look back."
