Kurama's P.O.V.

I watched as her long red hair billowed in the wind as we were sitting in the courtyard waiting eagerly for the rest of the gang. She was looking over to the entrance of the temple. She hadn't noticed me admiring her features. As I sat there I thought of all of the conversations that Lyric and I have had about my feelings toward Kaline. I knew I could trust her as we had been friends for quite a long time and she knew that I would never do anything to harm her friend. I have not approached Kaline with this information for fear of being rejected and ruining our friendship.
“Lyric Hurry up!!!! Jesus Christ you take forever.” yelled Kaline through the door. Lyric quickly ran out holding a necklace and trying her best to get it on as she ran over to us. It was a silver crescent moon with a blood red gem in the middle of it. She once told me that her father gave it to her before he left for a war that was being fought. He died in battle and she carries it wherever she goes.
“God wait. I couldn't leave without this, you of all people should know that.” she said to Kaline. She just rolled her eyes and we were off to see Koenma. We walked into the office that belonged to the prince. He was sitting at his desk pounding stamps onto one paper after the other.
“Excuse me Koenma sir but you called us to come down for a new mission.” I said to him.
“Yeah Diaper Ass. What's the deal?” Kaline asked. I loved her humor the most. I chuckled a bit as the rest of the gang laughed at her. She just looked annoyed. She eventually loosened up and sat at a chair that was across the room. I wanted to join her but had to tend to the business at hand.
“What's going on? What do you need us to do?” Lyric asked.
“Well I need you all to look after each other. This isn't necessarily a case in which you have to go anywhere but there is an evil man lurking about these parts looking for you. He has explained in letters to us very clearly that he wants your souls. In these letters he has put the names of the very people he wants. Lyric, Kaline, Kurama, and Hiei. I suggest you all work on your skills.” Koenma had explained to us that our souls were in danger.
“WHAT? I'M OUTRAGED.” yelled Yusuke.
“What are you talking about Greasy?” asked Lyric.
“Listen, not that I want anybody to take my soul but I would at least want them to want to take it. I mean what's so special about you guys? I'm leader here.” He complained.
“Yusuke, shut the fuck up. And whoever elected you leader in the first place?” Lyric said. While she was saying this Kaline ran up and smacked him in the back of his head. I laughed at this. Hiei even cracked a slight smile. I bet he was happy to see the detective get what he thought he deserved. I know for a fact that he would have been happier if it was Kuwabara getting knocked in the head.
“I think we should just go home and just rest on it and then we can practice our fighting tomorrow.” Lyric suggested. We all agreed and I opened the portal to leave. When we got home we all started to feel a little hungry.
“I know, I'll make us all some Lasagna. My favorite.” called out Lyric.
“Hn. Ok sure whatever.” was almost everyone else's reply.
“Kay can you help me put this pan in the oven. I'm afraid I might burn myself.” Kaline ran over to her to help. They had been friends for a very long time as well and always….well almost always helped each other out if they asked. It mainly depended on what it was that they were to do.
“So Kay, what do you think about this whole `this man wants our souls' thing?” She asked her using finger quotes.
“Well you should know. If anyone tries to get my soul I will beat them up until nothing is left.” She answered with a grin on her face.
“Hm. Damn Straight.”
“Did anyone want any dirty rice?” I asked, knowing that it was Kaline's favorite food.
“OOH OOOH ME!!!!!! Kurama you think of everything.” I smiled a little and blushed. I quickly looked down to hide it but I could plainly see Lyric smiling at me.
`I saw you blushing you love bug.' She said to me telepathically.
`You know me too well Ly (pronounced lee)' She kept laughing at me. I chuckled a bit as well. When the lasagna was ready she jumped off of the counter and ran to the oven.
“Oh SHIT!!!! That thing is hot.”
“Move stupid and let me get it.” She said to Kuwabara who had just burned his fingers on the rim of the pan. The dirty rice and lasagna were ready and we all went were we pleased to go and eat. Kaline and Hiei retreated to there rooms, Yusuke and Kuwabara to the living room and Lyric was still getting her things together. It was such a beautiful night out that I decided to eat on the back deck. I sat down with my feet dangling off the side, the tips of them slightly touching the ground. I placed my food in my lap and gazed up at the stars. I leaned my back against a post that was holding up a cover over the porch, it didn't come out too far as to block the beautiful night sky out of my sight. I sat it thought for a moment when I heard someone coming up from behind me. It was Lyric. She had her food and two drinks. She sat beside me, doing the same thing I did but instead sitting Indian style. She leaned against her own post that was very near to mine.
“I thought you might like something to drink so I brought you some tea if that is ok with you.” She said to me with a small smile. I smiled back.
“Well thank you. I almost forgot.”
“You're very welcome.” We both sat eating slowly and looking out into the open. “It's beautiful out tonight isn't it?” She asked me.
“Very.” I replied.
“Kurama I know you want to talk about her. It's ok with me. You know I'm here for you.” She said. I was glad to have someone to hear to what I had to say.
“I know Ly. I love talking to you too but I don't want to burden you with my problems of my love life.” I had spoken about her before and I didn't want to annoy her.
“I heard that Kurama and believe me you are not annoying me. Hearing you talk to me about your problems makes me…..” She paused for a moment.
“Makes you what?” I pried for the answer.
“Oh uh nothing Kurama I'm just here to help you know?” She avoided my question.
“Well you know I am going to ask you later so I guess I will let it slip this time.” We both laughed a little about this.
“So what's on your mind right now?” She asked me.
“Well I like her of course and it seems that we are never going to end up the way I want them to, you know?”
“I totally understand.”
“It's just hard to see her everyday and know that I like her as more than a friend and not be able to say anything because I am too afraid. I do not want to ruin what little friendship we have.” I sat and pondered this for a moment, just getting more and more angry at myself for not taking risks in life.
“I know exactly what you mean Kurama. You just don't want to ruin anything you might have with her. Unfortunately it happens to me all the time.” I looked over to her and saw the sorrow in her eyes. “I mean I guess you get used to it you know?”
“Yeah, I guess. I just hate having to be around her and hear how much she likes these other guys and know that she will never speak of me that way.”
“Preach on brotha.” I looked at her and we both laughed. “Hahahaha I mean I see it as getting stronger and I know that someday there will be someone out there that likes me as much as I do them and the same goes for you.” I listened to every word she said and tried to let it sink in.
“Yeah. I think you are right. So who is this person that you like so much?” I asked smiling and wanting to know for I had never heard her say anything about liking somebody. To my surprise her face turned a really dark red. I just laughed at her and she started to laugh as well.
“Uuummm hehehe nobody at the moment.” We had been lying on our backs on the porch for a while and she was looking at me. I do not know what she was thinking but I knew she was lieing.
“I think you should tell this guy what you think.” I suggested.
“I know he doesn't think the same. I have talked to him about it. Well not directly but pretty much.”
“I think you have nothing to lose if you speak to him.” I said to her. I know she didn't believe me. She was always the shy quiet type. “Do not worry I am sure he will come around.”
We both sat and talked for a long while when he suddenly heard a huge roar coming from the woods. We immediately sprang from the porch and watched as a huge red demon came charging at us. We both ran at it ready to fight.
“Rose Whip.” I yelled out and I slashed all over his body. Not to my surprise his blood was not red but instead a murky blue. I had seen it before when I fought with other demons that had trespassed only to find that this type was like acid to the touch.
“LYRIC!!” I called to her as she successfully broke his arm and cut him with her ice sword. The blood spilled on her arm and I could smell the acid as it seared through her skin. She screamed in pain. At this the others ran out. As soon as they did Kaline helped me in defeated the foul, retched creature. We quickly ran over to Ly as she was clutching her arm. We could all see the steam-like smoke emanating off of her. Yusuke quickly ran her to infirmary to patch her up.
“DAMMNIT!!!!” yelled Kaline. I could see that she wasn't happy about this as we all were angry at what had happened. She, though, seemed quite madder about it than the others. She was Ly's best friend and not only that but Ly had been closer to her than any other person she had known. We all went into the living room awaiting what Yusuke had to say to us regarding her wound and what we should do to try and keep ourselves safe. I was, for the first time, unsure of what to do.
