Prologue - Heart Shattering Illness
An ominous wind blew through the fresh morning air, causing the sakura petals to flow through the air softly and land on a sparkling clear pond, filled with colorful koi.
A young woman, her lightly tanned skin seeming to shimmer in the morning rays, walked down to the pond as she held her kimono closer together because of slight morning breeze. Her long raven black hair lying over her shoulder lightly, tied loosely with a piece of fabric. Her soft caring amber eyes peered into the beautiful pond, and she smiled softly as she watched the koi swim peacefully.
"My dear Nozomi what are you doing out in this weather, it is nearly winter…" An elder man asked as he walked out, looked over at his young daughter, and smiled kindly. "You know you should stay inside dear…" He said softly as he placed a hand on her shoulder.
"I know Otosan, but I hate staying in my room and only being able to see out at the beautiful gardens." His young daughter, Nozomi, said as she turned and looked at her father sadly.
"I know you do dear, but you have been gravely ill lately and I do not wish to loose my only daughter to illness." Her father said as he smiled down at her sadly and then turned and motioned for her to follow. "Let's go back in my dear; you can come out here when it warms a little from the sun." He said kindly and put his arm around his daughter's shoulders as they walked back toward the castle.
"Poor girl," A young man, standing near the forest's edge said as he watched the young girl and her father disappear into the darkness of the castle. His soft green eyes scanning the castle gates and noticing several guards on the gates. "She may be ill, Lord Toshi, but she does deserve what she wishes…" He said as he turned and his long red hair moving slightly as he did and started back deep into the forest.
"Ah I see you have returned…" A young woman sitting near a freshly burnt out fire said as she stood from putting the fire out and looked up a little at the man. "Is something the matter, Kurama?" She asked curiously, as she brushed some of her shoulder length brown hair back out of her soft lavender eyes.
"No…" Kurama said as he walked over to a medium sized rock, sat down, and put his hand up to his chin, as if he was thinking deeply.
"Well it must be something to cause you to be so deep in thought over it." The young woman said as she sat down next to him and placed her hands in her lap lightly as she glanced over at him cautiously.
"You should go back home for some time, Sakura, I have some things I need to do…" Kurama said and stood up and crossed his arms and started toward where he had returned from only a few minutes ago.
"Kurama…" Sakura said as she stood and took a few steps toward him confused. "But why? What are you going to do?" She asked slightly worried for his safety.
"Just go back home Sakura, and inform father that I won't be home for a few months. Tell him I am training in the western mountains." Kurama said as he stopped and glanced back over his shoulder at a sad but confused Sakura.
"All right," Sakura said sadly and fiddled with her hands as she lowered her gaze down lightly and sighed.
"Sakura," Kurama said as he sighed and walked over to her and placed his hand on her shoulder lightly to get her attention. "Just go back home and inform father that I won't be home for two or more months…But I will be back, I promise." He said and smiled sweetly down at his younger sister then he turned and disappeared into the darkness of the shadowed forest.
