Chapter 001 - Only Wish Fulfilled
Nozomi sat down in a chair in her room and put her elbow on her leg as she laid he chin gently in her hand so she could watched a small flock of birds sitting on the railing of her balcony. "I wish I were not ill…" She said sadly and sighed as she moved and stood slowly then she made her way over to the balcony and smiled as she held her hand out and one of the small light blue birds landed on her finger softly.
"Hime?" An elder woman said as she partly opened Nozomi's bedroom door, peered in, and then smiled once she saw Nozomi on the balcony. "I have brought your medicine for today, m'lady." She said as she placed a tray with some herbs on it down near Nozomi's bed then looked over at her and sighed sadly. "M'lady you must take this or you will never get to go back out…" She said then turned sadly and quietly left the room.
Nozomi moved her hand and the bird flew away with a chirp then she turned sadly, walked over to the tray near her bed, and sat down softly on the side of the bed. "I have told them time and time again I need this not…I am not sick…" She said sadly and looked at the herbs sadly.
*~*~*~*~*
Kurama moved slowly over the edge of the castle wall as he made his way to Nozomi's balcony and then he quickly turned his head and looked at a few guards walking below him. "That was close…" He said lowly as he watched them go into the castle without seeing him then he slowly made his way to the balcony, stepped over the railing, and looked into the room curiously.
He smiled at the sight of the young maiden Nozomi lying asleep on her bed, her figure darkened slightly by the shadows of the room as she moved a little and turned her head, causing her bangs to fall lightly in her beautiful face. However, he frowned when he noticed her face seemed pale and fragile.
`The poor girl, they must make her stay in this dark lonely room all day and night…' He thought as he slowly and quietly made his way over to her and smiled at her as he sat down on the side of her bed. `She must be so lonely here…In this dark prison.' He thought and brushed some of her bangs back out of her face and smiled when she made a soft, sleepy whimper.
"My dear?" A familiar voice asked as the door slowly opened and Kurama jumped up and dashed over to the balcony and then hid himself outside the window as he peered slightly around the stonewall to see Nozomi's father, Lord Toshi walk into the room and sit down softly in the spot Kurama had just left from.
Nozomi slowly woke and glanced over at the figure entering her room, and then a small smile graced her face when she recognized the figure to be her Otosan. "Yes, Otosan?" She asked as she slowly moved so she was in a sitting position in her bed and sighed weakly.
"How are you feeling?" He asked as he smiled at her lovingly then his pointed ear twitched at an unusual sound outside his daughter's balcony window.
"What wrong Otosan?" Nozomi asked slightly confused by his actions then she slowly turned her gaze over to the balcony window, caught sight of a blur of red, squinted her eyes lightly, and noticed it was someone's hair blowing lightly with the wind.
Who could that be? She thought confused then noticed her father was starting to stand and she quickly grabbed his arm. "Otosan, could you please go and tell the servants to bring me something to eat? I'm feeling a little better and I would like something to eat…" Nozomi said and smiled weakly at her father as she loosened her grip on his arm and then let go.
"Of course my dear, you just rest and it will be brought to you shortly." Lord Toshi said and smiled at his daughter and placed his hand to her cheek softly before he turned and started toward the door. Nevertheless, he stopped and glanced at the balcony window suspiciously and then he turned and continued on his way down stairs.
Kurama sighed heavy when he heard Nozomi's door close as he felt relief from being discovered. That was too close for comfort…He thought with a low sigh and then he turned and slowly turned to peer around the stonewall again.
Nozomi moved so her feet were touching the floor and she pulled her yutaka closer as she stood with a slight wobble and walked slowly toward the balcony and then she noticed a figure standing outside, on the small walkway that was near her window. "He-Hello…" She said slightly afraid and weak.
Kurama turned and almost fell back when he looked directly into her eyes and then once he caught his balance he smiled kindly at her. "Hello Hime Nozomi." He said in a comforting tone as he looked up into her eyes as he held onto the wall, making sure not to fall.
"Why are you out, on a balcony ledge in this weather? You must be freezing…" Nozomi said slightly worried as she looked at him and smiled weakly. "You may come in and warm up a bit if you would like." She said and moved a little so he could step over the railing.
"Thank you," Kurama said as he stepped over the railing and then stood on her balcony and straightened his clothes then looked over at her and smiled kindly.
"How did you know my name, when I know yours not?" Nozomi asked curiously and looked up at him then she crossed her arms slightly and rubbed her upper arms as she shivered lightly when a slight wind blew threw her room.
"Oh forgive me for my rudeness Hime; I am Ouji Kurama from the Northern Lands." He said and bowed respectively and smiled at her as he did so.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, Ouji Kurama." Nozomi said and curtsied lightly and smiled sweetly at him.
Kurama smiled at her and then he noticed that she had shivered and he looked out at the forest and noticed dark clouds started to drift toward the castle. "It seems a storm is brewing…" He said as he still stared at the clouds.
"Yes, it seems so…" Nozomi said sadly, turned, walked over to her bed, and sat down lightly. She sighed as she placed her hands in her lap lightly and looked down at them. "It seems it always storms around here…"
Kurama turned and looked at her and frowned sadly and then he turned and walked over to her and sat down next to her on the bed. "I have noticed your attempts to go outside and your otosan's attempts to keep you caged…Would you like to leave this prison?" He asked curiously and glanced over at her after he spoke.
Nozomi looked up at Kurama with hope-filled eyes then she turned her gaze back down to her hands. "That is one of my wishes that can never come true I am afraid…" She said with a heavy sigh.
"I see no reason your wishes could not be fulfilled." Kurama said slightly confused as he looked over at her and smiled kindly.
"My Otosan, he would never allow me to leave this castle and explore the forest. He would say I am too weak and frail to do such a thing." Nozomi said with a sad frown on her lips and then she turned and looked over at the tray that was still next to her bed. "And I sometimes understand why he keeps me here…" She said sadly and then a single tear made it's way down her pale cheek.
"Hime, I believe sometime out of this dark place would do you good. If you would be generous enough to trust me I would be honored greatly to show you the forest." Kurama said and smiled at her as he stood and looked down at her awaiting her answer.
Nozomi looked up at Kurama and smiled weakly. "I would trust you to do such a thing, but we could never leave the castle gates without my Otosan stopping us…" She said sadly and lowered her gaze once again.
"I said nothing of leaving through the front gates, M'lady." Kurama said with a childish smirk on his face and then he glanced over at the balcony then back toward Nozomi.
Nozomi followed his gaze then she gasped worried. "That would be suicide." She said stunned then made a soft noise when in one fowl swoop she was in Kurama's arm. "What are you doing?" She asked worried, her voice soft and scared.
"I think they have made you believe you are sicker than you are M'lady…And if you are as sick as you have been told then you deserve to have your last wishes fulfilled." Kurama said as he walked over to the balcony, Nozomi in his arms and leapt up on the balcony railing and he smiled when she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself close to him and hid her face near his neck.
"Please be careful…" She said in a slightly muffled, scared tone as she hugged herself closer to him.
Kurama glanced over at her and smiled kindly. "Do not worry, Hime. I am quite nimble." He said and with that, he leapt, using the railing to push himself off and soared through the air then he landed and leapt quickly from the stonewall that surrounded the castle and then he landed soundly on the soft grass of the forest. "We're out of the castle, Hime." He said kindly and put her feet down on the ground lightly.
"Huh?" Nozomi asked confused as she opened her eyes lightly and looked around and noticed that she was now in the forest that surrounded the castle she had spent her life in. "Oh…It's beautiful…" She said amazed as she took a few steps forward and smiled happily, as she looked completely around her then looked over at Kurama and smiled sweetly. "Oh, thank you!" She said and walked over and wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him lightly. "Thank you so much…" She said softly as she hugged him.
Kurama leaned over a little shocked at her sudden burst of happiness then he smiled softly as he hugged her lightly. "You are very welcome, Hime." He said kindly and then leaned up and looked down at her.
Nozomi looked up into Kurama's eyes and smiled then she turned and walked over to a small bush that seemed to have fresh blossoms on it then she leaned over and sniffed the flowers lightly and her face had already seemed to brighten with happiness. "This is so wonderful…" She said lowly to herself then she turned and heard something coming toward them through the bushes and she smiled kindly at the appearance of a beautiful winged horse, pure white in color. "Hello…" She said kindly, her voice soft and comforting as she walked toward the animal, her hand held out to touch its forehead.
The usually large, winged horse took a cautious step back then after taking in a few breathes of air and smelling the calmness of her aura it whinnied and slowly took a few steps toward her hand and nudged it's nose against her hand lightly.
Nozomi smiled happily when the horse moved closer to her and nudged her lightly with it's nose and then laid it's head over her shoulder and closed it's eyes softly.
She smiled and rubbed her hand down its neck comforting as she hummed lightly to calm it's nerves.
Kurama stood and watched Nozomi and smiled. Well…It seems I have fulfilled one of her wishes…Now the rest will be up to her to tell me. Then I will do my best to fulfill her wishes until the end of her time. He thought as he walked over and sat down on a small rock and watched the young maiden and beautiful winged horse peacefully and relaxed to the sound of the comforting forest sounds.
*~*~*~*
"M'lady?" A young woman with shoulder length soft brown hair asked as she slowly pushed the door open to peer in with her calm brown eyes and then once she noticed the room was empty and the shades of the balcony blowing with the winds of the coming storm and she dropped the tray she held in her hands and put her hands up to her mouth with a gasp. "M'lord!" She yelled as she turned quickly and ran down the stairs to the study.
Lord Toshi turned his gaze from the papers he had been working on to his study door when it was flung open by a young Ningen girl, her face pale with worry. "Yes, what is the matter?" He asked slightly confused.
"I-It's Hime Nozomi…" The young girl said breathlessly. "She is no where to be found in her room, M'lord. And her balcony window is open and the shades freely blowing with the wind." She said and tried to catch her breath as she held her hand up to her chest lightly.
"What!" He said angrily, shoved his chair out from under him, and stormed over to the young girl. "Has she not been seen in the castle?"" He asked in a demanding voice then he looked up to see one of his royal guards walk in.
"M'lord, is something the matter?" A tall young man with short, messy black hair asked as she looked from Lord Toshi to the young girl who seemed to be breathless at the moment.
"Yes, Yusuke…Call the guards and have them search the forest for my daughter." Lord Toshi said in an angry yet worried filled voice as he pointed toward the door behind the young man, known now as Yusuke.
"Yes, M'lord…" Yusuke said and held the door open so the young girl could leave the study before him.
Once outside the study and the door closed, Yusuke looked down at the girl confused. "Keiko is Hime Nozomi no where to be found in the castle?" He asked curiously, as he looked down at the young girl, his brown eyes showing confusion and curiosity.
"I believe most likely not…She never leaves her balcony windows wide open when she knows a storm is coming. Something must have happened. Please Yusuke…You need to find her…She may be a demon…But she is nothing like most." Keiko said sadly, as she looked up into Yusuke's eyes
"Is something the matter?" A young woman dressed in a black body suit, her chest and arms covered with a light, pale blue armor asked as she walked down the stone hallway. Her soft blue hair held back out of her light pink eyes with a small band.
"Yes, Botan. We need to go search for Hime Nozomi. She is not in her room…" Yusuke said as he turned and looked at the young woman.
"Hime Nozomi is not allowed to leave the castle grounds. She could have not traveled too far in such a short period of time, could she?" The young woman, known as Botan asked as she walked up next to Yusuke and Keiko.
"That is just the point, we have not clue as to how long she has been missing. Or do you know Keiko?" Yusuke asked curiously, as he turned and looked and the young girl.
"No…I was just taking her the food her Otosan said she wanted." Keiko said sadly and looked up at Yusuke then over at Botan. "You two should get going and hopefully find her before the storm hits…" She said the looked over at a window and noticed it was already getting dark because of the coming storm.
"She's right…" Botan said as she too looked up at the roaring black clouds making their way toward the castle.
