Koenma frowned as he shut the door of Kurama's apartment. It had been seven years, and Kurama still didn't want to hear his name.
`Damnit, Hiei…'
He shook his head silently, and looked up to the sky; then he was gone.
Inside, a small black haired girl with red eyes and silver fox ears leaned against her father.
“Kura?”
Kurama smiled at the nickname she had unceremoniously dumped on him three years ago. “Yes, Kogoe?”
“Tell me more about my mama…?”
He smiled, thinking back to the woman he had only known for a day.
“Well, now, she was very beautiful, with silver hair like mine and fox ears like yours. She was short and had golden eyes… not to mention a terrible temper.”
“Was she nice?”
Kurama nodded. He thought of the records of the murderess and thief, and answered, “Yes, very.”
“Why don't I look like you or mama?”
Kurama shrugged. “I suppose you look like your father.”
He smiled and stroked the black curls as she snuggled into his side.
“Kura… Who's Hiei, and why did you get so mad when Koenma-kun talked about him?”
His heart got stuck in his throat, and tears welled up in his eyes.
“Hiei…” He cleared his throat. “Hiei was a very close friend of mine.”
“A friend? Was? Did he die?”
“Ye- Yes. He disappeared.”
“Oh…” With a small sound, she crawled onto his lap and lay her head on his chest.
Then she kissed it solemnly, and climbed down to snuggle into his side.
“You sounded like your heart hurt. Better now?”
He nodded, hugging her tightly to him and holding back tears. “Thank you, Kogoe.”
“You loved him, didn't you?”
“Yes. I still do.”
She nodded. “I… love you, Kurama…”
“I love you too, Kogoe.”
