The bat laughed, swinging his pendant around his hand and standing. He stretched his arms, and turned to the young but clever fox.
“I agree,” Kurama noticed the twinkle in his eye. “We'll have to do something for a living, and we can't very well be street performers. I mean, I know how to dance, but I doubt you could do anything useful.” Kurama shrugged indifferently. “And, of course, in order to be assassins, we'd need a third person, as I don't see me doing anything but killing. So then, the third route. We'll become kings, yes?” Kurama smirked.
“Yes. We'll become kings.” Kuronue laughed again.
“What a marvelous idea! I assume we'll be stealing.” Kurama nodded, and spoke.
“Starting with the cat who bought you today. Do you know his name?” Kuronue sobered quickly, and Kurama watched him for a trace of temper. Instead, he saw a bewildered gaze coming from the bat.
“His name's Shiro, and he lives in the desert by the mountains.” Kuronue informed, dazed. “Why him?”
“Because he's dead and his home will be left unguarded. With luck, he'll have only fools running the establishment while he's gone. If not, then you're the inside man.” Kuronue's eyes flashed.
“Oh, no. You're not going to give me back that quickly! No way! I'm not going back to being a slave ever again! Do you hear me? Never!” he raved. Kurama waited patiently, and then explained his logic.
“I've neither been or ever kept a pet. I would not know how to act. What if he'd already told his men the look of his pet? I don't know your thoughts, but I don't believe I look like a bat. After this, I will ask you to teach me, and this is what we shall do. I'll be sold to the slave-trade, and you'll `save' me. We'll find out locations of homes and names of people, and we'll raid their houses. This will be the only time I ask this of you. I will also promise this on the Necklaces of Truth.” Kuronue gazed warily at his new partner, thinking.
“Promise me that you'll come for me and that none of their guards will touch me.”
“I promise if you do.”
“I do.”
“Anything else, Raven?” Kurama raised an eyebrow, and the bat continued gazing at his partner. Slowly, the bat caved, and sighed.
“You don't lose staring contests, do you?”
“My sister used to beat me every day. A vixen's stare can make you do anything.” he replied, smirking. “But enough of the past. To the present and future. I will follow you, and I ask that you keep this,” He produced a seed from his belt. “On you. Put it in your hair: that will make it harder to find.” He handed Kuronue the seed, and the bat placed said future-plant under his hat.
“What does it do?” he wondered aloud.
“It will help me find you and will allow me to create a path to you should the need arise. That plant also reacts to emotions more so than most of my others. It will tell me when you're scared.” Kuronue's eyes flashed again, and he opened his mouth to argue with that statement, but Kurama raised a questioning eyebrow that stopped him. His face flushed with embarrassment. Kurama smirked again.
“What a cute girl's face,” he teased.
“Shut up. Let's go, pretty boy.” And with that, they were off.
