~Prelude: A Kit~
Kori blinked her sharp blue eyes. Years ago, she wouldn't have been so careful. She wouldn't have cared. She would have been reckless, not caring about her life, not caring about the wounds that she had given herself, and certainly not caring about the ones that were caused by her.
An apprentice to Kuronue, the bat demon who had cared for her, like a brother almost, and later a friend, Kuro. And Yoko, the fox demon that had saved her life, made her apart of the band, gave her the most annoying nickname "Kit" as if she was really a little fox kit!, and then off all the things a theif could steal, he had to steal her heart.
She sighed. She couldn't concentrate, even though it was quiet as it coul possibly be. I could hear a pin drop, Kori thought then added, from a mile away. She frowned and stretched her feet, she was thinking logicly. If she could think like she usually thought, she'd be out there killing someone. Yoko really had rubbed off on her.
But maybe logic was helping, she was coming close to figuring out who had changed Yoko back into a toddler. It was obviously something to hold him back, he was strong enough to take on most. Surely the only way to kill him would have been to revert him back to an age were he could not protect themself.
"Hai, that is true, but we never expected you to show up," someone stated. A male. The voice was soft, almost as if he cared what would happen to her.
"But I do care what happens to you," he replied, to her unspoken thought. She growled and tensed all over, jumping from her seat on the rock. She looked around, eyes flashy wildly, dangerously.
'That's IMPOSSIBLE!' the word screeched through her mind. 'How could he? He cannot read my mind! I've always protected it, this is IMPOSSIBLE! I've blocked everything, nothing can penetrate my mind!' She continued to look around wildly. Without someone to protect her back, she had to keep her mind focused, protect everything, watch everywhere.
"I'm sorry, Kori," came the voice again. "But it isn't impossible. I can read your mind. You were so relaxed it was very easy to break. And know your thoughts are all over the place, you can barley think, let alone remember to put up your complex defense system."
Kori took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Her arms out in front of her; palms down, she placed her right wrist over her left, and concentrated. "Hmmm..." she made a sound. Her energy coursed through her and it took a second to use it to create a white fog that spread around her and about tweny feet.
"Your smokescreen," came the voice again. "I was hoping you'd do that." Something changed in the smokescreen but Kori couldn't figure. It was filling up over the place. She inhaled, and gasped. That wasn't right! NO! He couldn't!
She could hear voices. Disembodied voices...
"I'll come back for you, Kit. Don't worry."
"Are you two having a little lovers' argument?" "WE ARE NOT LOVERS!!!!"
"After sixteen years of supposedly being dead, thats all you have to say to your partner? You could have at least told me you were alive."
"What in the hell... YOKO! GET THE HELL OUT OF MY SHIRT!"
"Kori... Goodb-" "Don't say it, Yoko. Don't even think it!" "Then goodnight. "I'm sorry, Yoko"
"Kuronue's dead, Kori." "N-no..."
"Come on, Kit-chan!" "Stop calling me that will you?"
"You attract weird demons, Kit."
"What did he have to show you?" "My heart's greatest desire." "Which was?" "To bash Yoko's head in."
"Inari, you are strong when you're pissed!!"
"Kuro-sensei." "Kit-chan, you know I hate that." "I hate Kit-chan too, but that doesn't stop you."
"Don't you ever do that again!" "Na-nani?" "You scared the shit out of me, I thought I lost you!"
"You're hiding something from us." "I never was an open book."
"Well, you wouldn't tell me your name, Kit. So I gave you a name."
"Please! Don't hurt her, I'll do anything just don't hurt her!"
"We love you very much, you know that."
"Kori-chan? You're very special. Don't let anyone tell you differently..."
Kori blinked weary blue eyes rapidly, as if that could help fight off the gas. Then proceded to fall, softly to the ground, unconcious and breathing softly.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~< br> KS: Some notes I thought I would point out, just in case you don't get it:
[1] An apprentice to Kuronue... In the band, Kori became Kuronue's second in command (as Yomi's was Yoko's). I figured she would also be an apprentice.
[2] ...gave her the most annoying nickname "Kit" as if she was really a little fox kit!... "Kit", besides being short for kitsune, means a fox cub or baby. She was the youngest out of them, so therefore Yoko called her Kit and it stuck.
[3] I could hear a pin drop, Kori thought then added, from a mile away... As a kitsune, Kori has hiegthened senses. Considering humans use the phrase "I could hear a pin drop", you would think that even if it was noisy those with hieghtened senses could tell that t had dropped. And I did mention that it was quiet.
[4] ...who had changed Yoko back into a toddler... Read "Taking Care of Yoko", and you'll understand.
[5] ...a white fog that spread around her and about tweny feet... Watch YuYu Hakusho Episode: Kurama's Anger, Gourment's Guest and you'll get this, and know exactley what I mean.
[6] ...."I was hoping you'd do that." Something changed in the smokescreen but Kori couldn't figure. It was filling up over the place. She inhaled, and gasped... That smoke from the Idunn Box? Yep, that was released into Kori's smokescreen and it got mixed with, so even if Kori had pulled away, she wouldn't have escaped from it.
[7] ...She could hear voices. Disembodied voices... All those voices were from the past, it was like she was there in Makai and then she was back in her past.
