"I don't trust them."
"Why not?" Kai' Enna asked suspiciously. Kohana didn't trust too many people and it was normal of her to act hostile around them so before they avoided someone, it was typical of Kai' Enna to ask why her friend didn't trust them even if she always got the same answer.
"I get a bad feeling from them. I don't trust them." typical Kohana, distrustful as ever.
"Is it because the Yusuke one was being perverted jackass?" which he was.
"That and the fact that I don't wan to play tour guide, yes." Kohana confessed half-heartedly and vaguely.
Kohana was half-hearted and vague. That's all there was too it.
Three things that annoyed Kohana: One, ignorant jackasses. Two, superficial jackasses. Three, perverted jackasses. Which, in some ways, could describe Yusuke and his friends. Oh yes, they would get along marvelously.
"Oh come on, Kohana, they're just a couple of guys."
Kohana glared at Kai' Enna viciously yet playfully at the same time. Kai' Enna was sensible but she would never give up the chance to hang around guys. Ever. It was too much to miss. hanging around guys. Who knows what can happen? Anything.
"Not…entirely."
"So because they're guys you want to stay?" Kohana asked the opposing side to her question that Kai' Enna wouldn't answer either.
"Well…"
"I choose to say I no longer know you." Kohana informed her while waving her arm nonchalantly through the air to show Kai' Enna how her identity suddenly became unknown to her.
"Okay, first tell me why do you want to leave? What about them don't you like?" Kai' Enna pleaded.
Kohana was a tough one to crack. If she didn't have a good enough reason, which was the case most of the time, she could get someone thinking her way in minutes despite that. Somehow, Kai' Enna always mind tricks. It just took longer and more effort which was something Kohana wasn't into. She didn't put effort into things and she didn't like to spend time on things even though her patience seemed to never end.
"I don't trust them. they give me a bad feeling and I've learned to trust my feelings, Kai"
"You're paranoid."
"You're idiosyncratic."
"No I'm not."
"You don't even know what it means."
"So?"
"When I feel something, I'm always right." Kohana told her matter-of-factly, leaning on the frame of the exit of the school.
"Well, yeah but if something goes wrong we can leave."
"And if we can't, I get to kill you, all right?"
Silence. Dramatic silence on behalf of Kohana.
"Prepare to die."
The two girls walked over to the tree that the boys were under. Kohana didn't bother to introduce herself. She didn't want too and she was sure Yusuke and Kuwabara had taken care of it when they kept pointing at them. Kai' Enna on the other hand, fully introduced herself, happy and eager. The red haired, green eyed boy kindly introduced himself as Shuuichi. He seemed nice, smart, conventional even. He went to one of those schools where everyone applied themselves and wore uniforms. Applying yourselves and uniforms. Eww.
Don't trust him.
The black haired, red eyed boy sort of introduced himself as Hiei. He was ignorant and smart. That was obvious. Everything about his personality was obvious. Predictable.
Nor do I trust him.
All of the boys were easy to read. hey were all simple and Kohana knew they couldn't be trusted, she just didn't know why and not knowing why was gnawing at her brain.
She managed to utter a stifled "Hey" when they said hello. Though Kai Enna greeted them formally, smiling her brightest, most flirtatious smile.
And she is just…
"…disgusting." Kohana mumbled just loud enough for everyone to hear.
"So, about the thing you read in English…" Yusuke began then stopped due to lack of words.
Idiot.
"What about it?"
"Where'd you get it?" he asked, not really wanting to know but attempting to start up a conversation, or something similar to one.
"I was lazy and didn't do the homework last night so this morning I took my favorite song and viola. I had my homework." Kohana explained emotionlessly.
"I didn't like it." Yusuke told her in an attempt to make her hate him even more than she all ready did.
"Am I supposed to care?" Kohana asked rudely, not falling for it. "Just because I don't like you, it doesn't make me stupid. If anything, you are the stupid one here."
"Are you sure? You seem pretty stupid to me." Hiei told her from his spot half behind Shuuichi.
"Are your opinions supposed to mean something to me?" Kohana, asked copying his tone of voice.
"Oh come on, Kohana. Give them a chance." Kai' Enna plead, trying to get her to stop acting so hostile.
Kohana shot her an evil look that caused her to cringe. "Give them a chance to what? Prove that they're only half as idiotic as they seem to be?" She asked, beginning o get as angry as she can get. "I'll pass."
She shifted her bag and turned away quickly, the four boys and Kai' Enna following her. She walked one block with Kai' Enna begging her to give them a chance and Yusuke being stupid. She stopped at an apartment building half way through the second block and pulled out a set of keys. Before walking inside, she turned towards everyone and said in a deathly calm voice, her focus on Yusuke:
"Listen you asshole, I'm not going to stand here and listen to you waste perfectly good oxygen. If you're going to make a fool out of yourself, go do it somewhere else and waste someone else's time because I'm not going to stand here and listen to you ramble about my alleged stupidity nor am I going to watch my best friend flirt with you. So go in a dark alley and do whatever you want just leave me the hell out of it because I haven't trusted you since the moment I saw you and nothing you do will ever, ever make me trust you." she paused for a few seconds, letting her words soak into everyone's minds. "Okay?"
Right after, she slammed the door to the building shut and ran up the stairs.
"Where's she going?" Kuwabara asked Kai' Enna. "Does she live here?"
"No, this is her older brother's apartment."
"Oh…"
Soon, a second floor window flies open and Kohana's head pops out. "If you don't leave, I'll start throwing things at you."
"She'll do it." Kai' Enna tells them. "See ya later, Kohana. Goin' home, bloody sister needs me to baby sit again." she tells Kohana
"All right, see ya."
She slams the window shut and closes the curtains until she returns to the window hours later, at six o'clock. "You're still here?!"
"We can wait all night. We need to talk to you." Yusuke tells her.
"Oh yeah and after all the crap that you said before I'm really going to talk to you!" she screams angrily.
"Well we need to talk to you." Shuuichi explains.
"So you picket outside my house all night?"
"It's your brothers' apartment, isn't it?" he asks.
"You've got three minutes from when I get down stairs. I'm going home." she tells them bitterly while slamming the window shut again.
In a couple of minutes, she emerges from the door and swiftly walks past them but lets them catch up. "Start talking."
"Tells us about yourself." Shuuichi tells her, trying to calm her down.
"I was born here, I live here, I have three brothers, my father died when I was three, my mother owns a bakery and I don't like you."
"And the reason is?" Yusuke asks, all ready knowing the answer.
"Oh I don't know, it could have something to do with the fact that you've been standing outside here for hours."
"And your transformations?" Hiei asks.
"I don't know what you're talking about." she answers, remaining calm and collected, not flinching at all.
"Then maybe I can refresh your memory." Yusuke tells her. "Your hair; changing from black to dark purple and your eyes from green to red. And the stuff floating around your room. That's what we're talking about."
"Oooh, that." Kohana says, extremely calm.
"How do you know about that?!" Kai' Enna screams frantically.
Kohana turned around quickly to stare at her friend quizzically. Apparently she joined them in picketing outside of the apartment as well. Some friend…
"I told you I had a bad feeling…"
"Why are you so calm?" Hiei asked rudely.
"Whatever do you mean?" Kohana asks innocently. "Should I be panicking? Because if you want me too…"
"No, but, why are you not panicking?" Shuuichi asks calmly, trying to keep Kohana that way.
"I have no reason to panic. I've kept my guard up this entire time because I knew you were up to something I just didn't know what. And since you've managed to find out about my transformations, despite that, perhaps you know something that I don't." she answers him cool as a cucumber. Not faltering at all.
"I find it odd that you can remain so calm in a situation such as this."
"You don't know me very well, do you Shuuichi?" she asks him, turning to face him slightly. "You can come in my house and tell me what you know. Then I will answer anything you want."
"No. You will tell us before we tell you." Hiei demands.
She turns towards him and stares at him with blank eyes and face. She's quiet for a moment yet keeps walking. "Kai' Enna," she says loudly to her friend.
"Yeah?"
"Go home. I have a bad feeling. I told you we couldn't trust them and I was right so instead of killing you like we agreed on, you will go home, okay?"
"But-"
"I said to go home, Kai' Enna." she tells her friend fiercely.
"Fine. But you better tell me about it tomorrow." Kai' Enna pouts then turns at the corner of the block to her home.
"What do you mean, `bad feelings'?" Shuuichi asks.
"I always have feelings about things. And I don't trust you and I can tell you know something and I don't want Kai to hear it."
"Hn. You're not honest with yourself."
"If you don't shut up, I won't tell you a thing."
"And if you don't tell us, we won't tell you."
